 A blur of images assaulted Marie's mind as she slowly returned to consciousness. Memories of the battle against I.O. flare up with spasms of slightly muted pain is felt across the Lady X-Man's body. Painful welts are still present from the depleted uranium rounds, as well as the burns from the Kryptonian Unibeam used by Iron Monger before his untimely demise. Rogue's breathing increased in rate, and her eyebrow twitched from that painful memory. Arms and legs twitched, and a silent scream echoed within Marie's head. Those screams seemed to morph slowly from memories of the battle into shadowy recollections of Arkham Asylum. Ghostly apparitions from all of the people she as ever absorbed seemed to close in from all sides of the southern mutant led by a tall, thin blond man wearing a labcoat. This man had blackened eyes and a gaping maw for a mouth. Then a harsh whisper in Rogue's ear from a very familiar voice, "Well, well, well. If it isn't my little disrespectful daughter in pain. How delightful. And now... I have all the time in the world to pay you back for betraying me..."Suddenly, Rogue's green eyes snapped wide open rapidly glancing around the room while laying in a hospital bed. The pain forgotten, as Rogue tried to sit up looking for Mystique... but found that she was alone in the small room. A cold dread seemed to sit in the pit of her stomach, "That was a dream... right? Mama can't be here. The Prof. would know it.... wouldn't he?"xxsoullessANGELUS Connor would have heard Rogue. Rathenmedus And you would know what is going on..... twisted

 The Chinese princess took a moment to think before responding to Alexi, <"First, I need to see how I fit in this 'new world', before I decide on my path. I think I need to learn to.. to adapt, because I know that what I have earned and done in the past is literally ash...."> Tears welled up in Shang's jade eyes as she continued, <"Everyone that I know and cared for, everything that knew and stood for are gone -- dust in the wind. Any family related to me would be so diverse that they would be unrecognizable and indistinct as two peasants from different provinces. I am literally a woman with absolutely nothing..."> Sun Shang began to hang her head, as her personal loss full seemed to hit her, and her hands began to shake. While Xavier listened, Barbara walked over to sit beside Shang -- understanding Mandarin as well. Babs gently took Shang's hand and softly spoke, <"Look, I ... can't think of what you have been through. But know this -- you are not alone. We are here for you, and you will get through this.">.................. Des thought a moment and used his darkforce to reach into the kitchen to grab the pitcher of lemonade and placed it on the tray, "I just realized that I could do that and save myself some time. Anyway, is there anything else you kids need for snacks before I go check on my patients?"

Dundee listened. Somehow he could relate to Shang's plight. Ever since the merge, Arell and C.J. were the only family he really had in this world. Well, he sorta saw C.J. as family, but DEFINITELY Arell. But to have THEM go, too? He couldn't even THINK. <"We're all here for you, Ma'am."> he said in his broken Mandarin. It had been a few years since he had that last course in Chinese. Of course, at the same time, he looked at the others. Then realized he forgot that he had that cup of tea in a precarious spot! Quickly getting it before it spilled on his computer, he took a sip.

§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲ "Trying to find where you fit may be harder than it looks...or perhaps simpler than it seems." His voice was a murmer as his eyes seemed to glare at the carpet before them. It was something personal it would seem, but Alexi knew the struggles of that search. He still continued looking but for after all these years, he felt it somewhat in vain. The man truly desired to find his place in the world outside of the realm of blades and assassinations but alas, he felt he fit nowhere. It was only as he looked at her face that a confusing mix of emotions seemed to play out through his mind and somewhat through his face.
Alexi was not used to people crying, let alone ladies. But to be fair, women were a mystery that the man had never tried to understand or seek out. Sure, he'd read romance novels of the greatest literature to be but he had panned that out as foolish fantasy, almost an impossible dream to try and achieve. Not to say he was in love, but it was one of those emotions, one of the many, that he tried to stave off for the benefit of his own job and to keep his seemingly invincibility to all about him in check. The Princess's tears seemed to rouse some of those banished emotions though, his face solidifying once more as to not show his weakness, as he raised a single hand and brushed away a falling tear from her left eye.
The Dragon's face was still a mystery as he almost mechanically reached out and grasped on of Shang's hands, the shaking coming to a complete stop under his strong but surprisingly gentle hand, the warmth of his skin sure to confuse most that touched him as his eyes searched her own, looking at her beautiful face as if he were contemplating one thing or another. And it was there he spoke. "Everything is ash." He agreed, though it may sound rude, but his voice was gentle as it could be, "But from ash, I have seen things grow into the most beautiful of wildlife. Things will not be the same. Things will not be easy. But you do not have nothing. At the very least, you have this fool right here who knows very well what you're going through...and..." His voice faded out as he searched for the correct order of words to finish with, "I'll help in what little ways I can."
His voice seemed to shut off as he said this, his eyes looking once more at the carpet as if he were embarassed after what he had said. If he were to have been blushing, the red would easily convey his embarassement but to any other it was simply him looking away.

Sun Shang was very touched by kind words from her hosts, and her breath hitched a step when the kind dragon wiped away her tears. Though tears still streamed, they were no longer those of sorrow and despair. The Chinese princess could feel her spirits lift, and she began smiling at Alexi, Babs and Dundee, <"I... I thank each of you. For one in my position... I couldn't have hoped for such warmth and concern. Heh, from the ashes... Noble Dragon, you remind me of the stories of Fenghuang, the noble bird of virtue, duty, and mercy. And you're absolutely right and thank you for helping me.">

Alexi muttered, laying his head into the sofa, his hand still holding hers as he thought about what to do, "I don't know where to go next or what to do....S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn't contacted me nor any of my other contacts." He looked over towards the Princess before thinking, "I could take you to one of my safehouses....and maybe we could get you in tune with the world. At least...there's a start." ▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§

Suddenly the shelves of books moved out about a foot and then slid to the right. In the hollow revealed was a large plasma television screen that began to light up. As the screen powered up, a broadcast tried to start. However, static seemed to burst in the air, and white and black pixels seemed to shower on the screen like snow. After a few moments of this, the static was replaced with a steel SHIELD emblem. Sun Shang found herself staring at the emblem in confusion, and then turned toward Alexi and Xavier to ask a question, "Is there... some reason or purpose for this symbol? Does it represent a god?"Xavier turned toward the SHIELD agent present, "Alexi... I believe if Director Coulson were going to teleconference with us, he would have already started. Something tells me that SHIELD wouldn't have ... technical difficulties -- considering I know Coulson is on the helicarrier." Barbara Gordon piped up, Is there a problem up there?"

His eyes looked towards Xavier and nodded. "You'd think." His hands checked to make sure that he had all of his weapons on him before answering Barbara, his eyes looking over at the screen. "I don't know. But I'll find out." He stood up, making sure his jacket was on before looking over at Sun Shang, letting out a small sigh. What was he going to do? Especially with her? He sure as hell wasn't going to leave her here...he felt...somewhat responsible for her. Well... "Princess....would you like to come with me?" He had warned her that he wasn't the greatest of companions....but he really wanted her to come with him, for whatever silly reason his conscience was trying to throw at him. ▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§

While the screen was still displaying the SHIELD eagle emblem, Sun Shang looked up at Alexi and quietly nodded. Standing up from the sofa, Shang was easily a good foot shorter than Alexi. Turning towards Xavier, the Chinese Princess bowed respectfully, ""Xavier smiled and nodded, ""Barbara Gordon stood up as well, gazing directly at Alexi Romanoff, "If you wish me to each Romanoff, I will keep in contact with you on the computer – just in case you run into some actual trouble."

Hopefully it is nothing that I can't handle, if push comes to shove." Quietly he looked over towards Sun Shang and gently reached out to grasp her shoulders, turning her around so that he could grasp them. "Don't squirm. It will only take a moment...hopefully. I'm rested enough it should be fine." He nodded towards Xavier and Barbara once more before a mass of shadow swirled around them, sending them off to SHIELD. (Exit to SHIELD) ▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§▲§

 After Alexi disappeared with Shang, Professor Xavier and Barbara Gordon start looking through channels on the big screen TV – and have been to come across local news coverage of the huge fire and carnage from the massive assault that occurred there. For a couple of moments, Barbara could feel the blood draining from her face. It was in the middle of this broadcast that both Jinx, back in her normal garb and appearance, and Dr. Powell enter the study.  The rejuvenated black doctor's eyes widened slightly decided images displayed on TV screen. After a few moments, Des finds his voice, "I gather things didn't go well over at Wayne Manor." This statement seems to snap Barbara into action, "That's putting it lightly..." Oracle turned her head to view both the old crimefighter and the former HIVE member, "Would you two do me a huge favor and get over there to see what you can ... Find our people and see if the authorities haven't found the entrance to the Batcave?"There is a shared look between the doctor and the young goth teen, before Des answered, "We'll get right on it. I'll transport the both of us directly to the Cave." Jinx nods grimly with determination seemingly set in her pink cat-like eyes, "The Nightshade can look for breaches using his darkforce, and I can track Nightwing's Titan's Comm. If they need medical, I can always call in the doc."Xavier spoke up at this point, "And if there are any serious injuries, you can always teleport them back to our medical wing."Dr. Desmond Powell nodded, "I'll need to get my gear. I guess you're with me, Jinx."The grey Indian goth girl motioned with her hand back out of the study, "After you, your spookiness.."[Exit Nightshade and Jinx to the Batcave] "I'll try to contact Nightwing directly.... if he's able to answer," Barbara stated grimly....

The winged tiger girl landed in the yard. She'd been missing for some time but she finally found her way home. She ran into the building and stopped when she saw people. "Hi Oracle, Professor." She smiled. "Good to see people I know again."
(Re-assuming control of Xavier)
Xavier looked back when Kesshou walked into the room. He was glad to see another of his students return safely. "It's good to see you're in good health. Welcome back, young Kesshou."

Piotr was making himself some breakfast before heading out. He had made himself a Russian beet soup called Borcht. After finishing putting the final igrediants for his soup. He sat at on the couch and began to eat. "Where is everybody this morning?" He muttered to himself. "Maybe I go to park and do some drawing." He chuckled, speaking with a heavy Russian accent. Colossus was puzzled at where everyone was. Maybe he'll ask the professor later. Upon finishing his meal, he got up and washed his dish.

 Walking into the kitchen just as Colossus was cleaning up was Caitlin Fairchild, one of the rescued mutants from International Operations. The Amazon redhead was slightly surprised, "Oh! Umm... Hi." The 'amazon' seemed almost meek and shy at the moment, something that would appear odd to the Russian. It was as if this redhead wasn't used to her size and musculature. Caitlin continued after giving a shy wave, "Nice to meet you. I guess you're one of the other X-Men? This place is still very new to me. I'm Caitlin." Fairchild holds out a hand.
