I'd offer tips, Vahn, but it's been forever since I played that game.
Beat it twice, but it's one I always get tempted to go through again.

Vahn Kyonuske FF Tactics confounds me. I cannot get past the sandrat cellar portion. My people keep dying from monks. What's your party setup? By that point I usually had an archer, a knight, a white and black mage, and a monk; since I spread my starting people on different paths. I believe I had the knight and archer take the high road, while the monk and mages took the other. Archer and Black Mage would bombard the doors as soon as anything showed itself while the melees mopped up outside. After it came down to the interior, just go with the artillery to augment your melees.

See, that's a good strategy. I was always too lazy to do that, so I had a much simpler strategy.
Split up your party member's paths so they can do a lot of different things, keep at least one healer/support. I often kept at least one ranged attacker too, but not always. At least one offensive mage usually.
Then, throughout the entire game, I simply lined them up with my combatants in front and mages in back. Picked the single most dangerous enemy (unless one capable enough of messing me up/dealing damage was frailer) and slammed him with as much damage as possible as rapidly as possible. Then onto the next most dangerous/frailest. Healers always killed on priority in games if encountered.
Except for those few stages where you get your main character split from the rest or have to protect someone stupid, that got me through all of FFT. And many other video games, in fact. The damage rush is all I do unless something else is necessary, and it's rare that anything else is.

I used a slightly different strategy than the 'one by one gangbang'.
I'd usually pair off. Send one character to one enemy, with the support betwen them so that it can be sent to any one as needed.
Specifically, I'd send a Knight after the Black Mage as soon as possible to kill it off quickly, while my Black Mage/Archer would assist the other melee in taking down their primary tank.
After that it was just cleanup, especially if they didn't have a healer. If they did, he'd go immediately after the BLM while the range/melee team ran interference on the tanks.
