Feeling a phantom pain as on his forehead between his eyes he rubbed it and cast Keegan a slightly annoyed look. "Yeah that was lots of fun." He muttered as he watched the cute little computer animation that showed their Pokemon moving over. Dante managed to get a quick glance at the sprite that Keegan was trading him and his eyebrows rose for a quick second before there was a ding and the trade was done. Picking up the Pokeball that had once held Kenny he watched as Keegan release the ghost type into the Pokemon Center, which might not have been the best idea in very short hindsight.

The room filled with darkness as the reapers cloth and the energies that seemed to activate some sort of weird magic in it. A moment later though the darkness just seemed to pull into one solid and huge shape the insubstantial shadows seemingly becoming whole and gain the shape. The chill that came from all ghostly Pokemon seemed to tear through him like an early death tore through the lives of all those that person knew. Still there stood the newly evolved and quite large Dusknoir.

Shaking his head to get rid of the morbid thoughts the dark evolution Dante looked up, way up that is, to look into Kenny's face. "Hey there buddy, quite a drama queen you have become." He offered with a smirk. The face on the large ghosts Pokemon's stomach seemed to twist with amusement and a light flickered overhead. "Heh, well you certainly grew up from that tiny Duskull that hatched in Cherrygrove haven't you? Wanna see your old teammate before we trade you back?" He offered as he released Shiva into the Pokemon Center. The auburn haired teen let out a strangled squeak as the larger then he remembered ice type practically jumped on him in excitement. "Hey there Shiva, looks like you did some growing up yourself." He managed to wheeze out.

~~~~~~~~
Raz and Slowpoke weren't paying any attention to the brewing tension over to the other side of them, instead they were focused on their own task. This battle had become less and less of them practicing their evasion and accuracy and more of a battle of knocking the other one out. Every time the Yanmega got to close or tried to pick it up with his Psychic the Slowpoke would give it a blast with it's Water Pulse or Water Gun. The large insect buzzed in irritation his whole form a speedy blur in the air as he swooped down again going for another run only to be barely avoid a water jet attack aimed at his delicate wings. He wasn't sure how this slow Pokemon was holding him off but he was pretty sure it had to do with his latent psychic abilities allowing it to react in time or aim for delicate parts of the Yanmega. A few times the large dragonfly had only escaped the blasts through careful use of Detect, that is until the Slowpoke had disabled it.
".. Have my Pokemon train with each other? I hadn't thought of that," he mused idly as the Raichu seemed to want his affection. Reaching out a hand, he rubbed the top of her head with his palm and scratched under her chin a bit. "I don't know if I have a favorite type, but I know I want to train all kinds. That would be really neat," he said as he smiled. "And Eevee are so cool! I'm jealous that you got one. I love the way they can change into so many different things, they're every trainer's dream team packed into one! Depending on what type you want, that is," he said with a sheepish smile.
Suddenly, Ben had an idea. "Hey, if you're going back to Violet City, would you mind if I came with you? I was gonna visit my family since they live here in Cherrygrove, but... if I have another option, I'll take it. I don't really wanna tell them I lost..." His eyes shadowed a bit worriedly. He was their only kid, and he didn't want to disappoint them.
"Oh," was pretty much all Keegan could think of to say as he watched the Dusclops undergo his transformation, aware of the various shouts and cries of panic that were now coming from the many patrons inside the Pokemon Center. "Yeah... didn't think that one through," the redhead muttered, rubbing his hands over his arms to try to shake the chill he'd started to feel, as well. Regardless, the newly-evolved Dusknoir that stood before them was nothing short of impressive. "Damn, Kenny. You look... completely awesome," he said, unable to help but feel a twinge of jealousy jabbing at his gut.
Dante and Keegan's impressive streak of 'lack of thinking anything through' continued on as the former then made the quality decision of releasing Shiva right then and there, and naturally the happy-go-lucky walrus decided that the best course of action was to pounce on her old trainer to show him how much bigger and stronger she'd gotten (and also to showcase how much she'd missed him, as well). Keegan chuckled darkly as he watched Dante being smothered by the Walrein, pulling out a cigarette and sticking it in his mouth. "Oh yeah, forgot to mention - Shiva's evolved, by the way," he said, cigarette dangling from his lips. "Thought you ought to know."
By this point, however, it was quite clear that the nurse currently in charge of the center was way past her breaking point with these two idiots. Keegan had only just recalled the giant Dusknoir back into his PokeBall and set the sphere in the slot so that they could trade them back (and idly wondering if Shiva would prefer going back to Dante rather than staying with him) when the pink-haired and apparent banshee of a young woman cornered them. "You two," she all but screeched. "Get out of my Pokemon Center! Now!"
"What'd we do?" was Keegan's quick retort, but his gaze quickly went past the infuriated nurse and to the garbage can, which was still knocked over with half of his ruined jacket sticking out of it, and he chuckled, feeling his ears start to burn with embarrassment. "Oh... right. That."
"Yes," she snapped. "That, and letting your Dusknoir evolve in the middle of a busy Pokemon Center! What were you thinking?! And now you've gone and let a Walrein loose as well? And don't think that I don't know that it was YOUR Camerupt that went on a rampage outside and burned down half of the Petalburg Woods! Don't you have any sense of responsibility, young man?! I have half a mind to call the Pokemon League and have them suspend your license! And if you even think about lighting up that thing in here, I'll call Officer Jenny on you, and you can spend the night in lockup! Maybe that'll teach you a thing or two!"
Keegan had shrunk back with every accusation, screech, and shot to his ability to make rational, grownup decisions, trying to interject to defend himself but never finding a chance to. It didn't help that an equally-angry Chansey was now flanking the nurse, punctuating each of her shouts with a vicious "Sii!" Naturally, every pair of eyes in the Pokemon Center were now trained on him as well, and very suddenly Keegan wished the ground would open and swallow him whole, as he was sure falling into an endless, black abyss would be more fun than this. Unfortunately, that sort of thing never really did happen when you want it to, so he glanced quickly to Dante, his green eyes wide and begging him to throw the switch to complete the trade before the nurse really did follow through with her threats and have him hauled off to jail, only then realizing that the auburn-haired teen had managed to escape the vast majority of the scolding.
Dante, who figured being buried under Shiva was the better option then getting chewed out by the pink haired nurse stayed there for a moment before a grin came to his face. Putting Shiva back into her Pokeball he picked himself up and dusted imaginary dust from his clothing. "You were the one who burned down Petalburg Woods?" Dante asked in fake shock, the look on his face was a very convincing look of an innocent who had just been deceived their whole lives. To Keegan it probably looked like day time soap opera acting. "How could you? I never knew my friend could be capable of such a thing. I mean the gym battle got a little out of hand and I was surprised but I just thought since the Pokemon were so powerful..."
He looked worried and cast a small evil smirk at Keegan before continuing, his voice the sickeningly perfect amount of concern and hurt. "I know I asked him to help me evolve my Dusclops into a Dusknoir but I never thought he would evolve him in the Pokemon Center. I know ghost types are frightening to some and I tried to stop him from releasing him here but he just wouldn't listen to me! This is all my fault!" Dante practically wailed/sniffled that last part out.
Behind him he quickly snuck Shiva's pokeball on the machine and hit the trade button.
Ramping up the acting just another notch, hoping he wasn't pushing the limits with this one but he needed to buy some time for the trade to go through. He let out a small whimper at the thought of Nurse Joy calling the cops on them and gave her a desperate pleading look. "Oh please don't call them Nurse Joy. We didn't mean any thing by this! We're so sorry! We just didn't know any better. I promise we will leave, right now." He sniffled while he discreetly grabbed the pokeballs and shoved the somewhat bewildered Keegan out of the Pokemon Center.
"Heh, haven't done that in a while. Hope they bought it." He whistled to himself his face totally clear of made up tears now. Tossing both Pokeballs up in the air he passed one to the redhead while putting Kenny's away. Looking around he spotted a neon sign that flickered on as evening faded away into the night. Nudging Keegan with his elbow he grinned and pointed at the bar sign. "Wanna get drunk and celebrate your victory and Kenny's evolution?" After all they had to do something to help them to continue to make quality decisions. Copious amounts of alcohol would certainly help them continue to make good sound minded decisions.
"An Evening With Alexanrda Beauchamp," Sasha said to herself as she walked down the hall to the set. It had a title. A title! Did you know what that meant? You probably don't. Okay. Let me break it down for you. Most shoots didn't have titles aside from whatever clothing company you were modeling for, or whatever was sponsoring the shoot itself because the focus isn't the model, but what they are representing. This could be colleges, restaurants, what have you. Sasha had done a fair amount of shoots like that, having appeared on the brochure for a rather high-end college in Saffron City, and could be found scattered in random fashion magazines showcasing seasonal fashion. But this? This was on a whole other level. This was the first time when it wasn't about what she was wearing, it wasn't about where she was posing, it was about her.
This 'Evening With Alexandra' was to be featured in next month's Fetching Femmes. Give that a moment to sink in. Fetching! Femmes! Arguably the most widespread beauty magazine in the Kanto and Johto regions! They were doing a spotlight on trainers from wealthy backgrounds, and she was going to be in the feature! That meant full page shots, an interview, the whole shebang! If Sasha wasn't wearing heels, she would be skipping. She almost fainted when she got the call from her agent. Hell, she might faint right now.
Sasha stood in front of the door. Sure enough, 'An Evening with Alexandra Beauchamp' was printed on a piece of paper taped to the door. This was it. This was the real deal. She reached for the handle, looking at her hand as she did. Trembling putting it mildly. She paused, taking in a deep breath. I will not let myself be afraid. This could be her real chance to make a name for herself, and she was not going to let some silly thing like fear get the best of her. Given the past week and all the absolutely insane things she had been a part of, this was nothing! Yeah! Having a party crashed by Team Rocket? Terrifying! Kicking down the door of crazy eco-terrorists with your equally crazy friends? Traumatizing! Some photoshoot? Pffft. Kids stuff! I can do z'his. This was her element. This was where she belonged.
My name is Alexandra Jennings Beauchamp, and the world will know who I am! She looked down. Her hands were still. Her heart wasn't throwing itself against her chest. "C'est mieux comme ça." Sasha smiled, exhaled, and threw the door open. "Je suis ici!"
Keegan's fearful expression started to ebb a bit Dante stood up, looking calm and cool and collected as ever, brushing the dust from his clothing. And for a solid, half-baked moment, the redhead actually allowed himself to feel some relief as he fully believed that Dante would make it all better.
However, if there was one thing that Keegan was an expert on, it was being wrong.
The redhead's eyes bulged progressively further out of his head as Dante slapped on the biggest, cheesiest and most obviously fake look of shock that Keegan had ever seen. He opened his mouth to object but was silenced, and all he could do was stand there like an idiot as Dante then proceeded to sell him down the river. Dante, you sonovabitch, he thought, being sure to shoot his most hateful and dagger-filled glares Dante's way, not even realizing that the trade-back had been initiated and Dante was simply stalling for time right now.
The nurse's harsh gaze had softened somewhat at Dante's falling apart, though when Keegan tried, she went right back to looking like a pink-haired Medusa and he froze on the spot, silently wishing he would turn to stone. The next few moments were a blur as somehow Dante had grabbed his arm and gotten him out of there before anything else happened, and it wasn't until he felt the cool night air on his hot skin that he snapped back to reality and he grumbled a low thanks as he accepted Shiva's PokeBall and clipped it into place on his belt, looking up and spotting the same blinking neon sign that Dante had. "Oh, ******** yes," he sighed, unable not to smile at the thought of an ice cold beer and a smoke and repeating that process over and over again.
He did wait until they were about half a block away from the bar before he drew back his arm and punched Dante hard in the shoulder. "That's for selling me out," he growled, but the anger lasted for less than half a second and he was grinning stupidly again. "All right, let's get wasted!"
Shocker flinched ever so slightly as the boy's hand made contact with her head, but soon she'd given in to the moment and was swaying contentedly on her feet, making happy noises. Kasiya watched the Raichu with a smirk, pleased to see that with every passing hour, the mouse was acting more and more like her old self again.
"Who knows, maybe someday you'll get to raise an Eevee of your own," she said, looking back to Ben, and deciding to leave out the fact that she also had a Jolteon and a blue-ringed Umbreon among her ever-growing lineup of Pokemon. She did look on with a bit of surprise as he quite suddenly asked to accompany her to Violet City, and she smiled, looking around the quaint little town and fully understanding what he meant. She'd suffered some pretty harsh losses herself, and she certainly hadn't wanted to run home and tell her parents all about them. "Hey, sure thing! The more the merrier, right? I'm sure we can even do a bit of training on the way, and if you want, maybe we can even find you a new Pokemon for your team! Sometimes, adding a new member to your family can be just what you need to pull yourself up out of a slump!"
Kasiya wasn't sure why, but she'd taken an instant liking to Ben, and she was sure it wasn't just because he also happened to be training a Pikachu. The prospect of helping the young trainer become stronger and maybe adding something to his own growing party was exciting, as all he had to do was say the word and she could literally take him anywhere to find the perfect Pokemon for him! "Okay then! Let's get going!" the blonde all but cheered, pumping a fist into the air. Shocker cheered and mimicked her trainer's actions, a few stray sparks flaring from her cheeks.
Erika gave a small frown, as by this point, her seemingly endless sea of calmness and patience was starting to run out. She'd been nothing but polite and respectful of this girl, and she couldn't even return the favor! Erika bit her tongue, refraining from calling out a patronizing comment about the Dragonair being quite strong, and instead steadied herself as Riza's final Pokemon - a rather lovely Gardevoir - appeared, already in the process of launching a Confusion attack. I haven't seen one of those in quite some time, Erika thought, deciding that she wasn't going to give this up without a fight. The sun's warm rays continued to filter down onto the battlefield, which meant that Vileplume's Chlorophyll was still active, but even with her speed doubled, the Flower Pokemon could not avoid the psychic blast in time. "Solarbeam," Erika called lightly, figuring that she might as well take advantage of the Sunny Day while it lasted. Again, Vileplume's massive petals began to glow with a white-hot light, and within seconds, the devastating ray of sunshine was being blasted toward the Gardevoir.
Karrigan was in the middle of another wide yawn when she heard Damien's voice behind her and she turned to look him with a shrug. "Yeah, it's been a long day," she said, stretching her arms a bit. "What with all the traveling and walking and shopping and forced evolutions and whatnot." She said the last part with a bit of a smile and pointed to the stairs the shopkeeper had pointed out to her. "There are rooms up there for traveling trainers to stay in," she informed him, glancing to the clock on the wall. "I think it's too late for us to start heading out now. We might as well wait until morning." She paused, already prepared to accept Damien's likely answer of "whatever" or "I don't care" before turning and walking toward the stairs, occasionally looking back over her shoulder to see if the dark-haired boy was following her or not.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 09, 2013 12:34 pm
Logically Riza knew that it would take more than a single confusion to bring down the Vileplume, but that didn't stop a surge of anger from coursing through her as Erika called for a Solar beam. Riza also knew that she had no right to be taking out all of her anger and frustrations on the gym leader, as it was clearly not her fault, but the raven haired girl wasn't bothering to try and think rationally. At least not right now. "Yula!" she called, unsure of if the Gardevoir could even hear her as she all but vanished inside the wide beam of blinding light. Riza grit her teeth, knowing that Yula was strong, but could she stand up to a powerful solar beam like that? When it was over, Yula was standing strong, though she did look a bit shaken as some of her body appeared to be smoking. She looked able to continue, however, and Riza decided it was time to up their game. "Psychic!" she called. "We've got this!" Yula nodded in agreement, her whole body starting to shine with a teal hue as she sent a much stronger blast of psychic energy at the Vileplume.
Both Katie and Darla watched with satisfaction as the Solosis's Psywave scored a solid strike to the Machop, once again knocking it to the ground. It growled and jumped up, rushing at Darla and attempting to smash another flaming fist into her. Darla avoided a direct hit but still let out an angered shriek as part of her soft body was scorched, the reflect still helping to block out some of the possible damage. The Solosis's response was to give a second horrible shriek, her whole body glowing as she sent out several greenish orbs that sped toward Machop.
'That looks like Hidden Power?' Katie thought, watching as the orbs honed in on the Machop and then all struck it at once, sending wisps of flame everywhere. 'Darla has hidden power fire,' she thought, smiling. 'Awesome!' The Machop visibly struggled to get up and Katie pointed at it. "Hidden Power! Again!"
The Solosis gave an angry growl and once again shot off the ring of orbs, and Katie watched with a smirk as they each seemed to explode into little bursts of fire. This proved to be too much for the Machop as it gave a weak cry and fell to the ground, unable to continue. Kojiro gave a growl and recalled his fallen Pokemon. "You'll pay for this!" he shouted, shaking his fist at the girl before he ran off.
"Wait, you were supposed to help me find Maylene!" Katie shouted after him but he was already gone.
Brock just smiled, refraining from any sort of comments towards the boy and his little candle Pokemon for two reasons. One he wasn't sure that this Mike kid really had any use for advice by this point and two, he also wasn't sure he'd even hear him if he did. "Geodude, use Rock Polish," the gym leader called, folding his arms over his chest. Geodude gave a grunt to show his agreement and began to roll around on the ground, picking up a lot of speed as it polished off all of its rough and ragged edges to reduce its drag, and as a result was able to move a lot faster now.
In what seemed like one continuous flash, the shoot was over, and Sasha was almost literally punted out of the door so Celeste could begin sorting through the shots. She was like that with everyone, even her 'radiant masterpiece'. With more than a few spots in her eyes, Sasha stumbled out into the hallway. Celeste must have taken a thousand pictures based on how blind she now was. Regardless, she did it! Her first feature shoot! And after only a little bit of asking (begging), she was allowed to keep the dress! Triomphe! Sasha was on top of the world!
While she would have loved to wear her new dress literally everywhere, the sensible side of her brain (which, surprisingly, existed), said that she should fold it neatly and give it to Bishop when she saw him next. After groaning loudly for a solid minute or so at how annoying being responsible was, she did just that, and changed back into her cute red dress/leggings/jacket ensemble and skipped to the lobby.
"I assume it went well." Cindy commented, leaning back in her seat.
"Oui oui! C'était merveilleux!" Cindy smiled sweetly, well aware of Sasha's tendency to forget how to speak English when she's excited about something. Oh, now she is jumping in place and giggling. She has forgotten words entirely. After she had more or less tired herself out, Cindy spoke up.
"So, Sasha. I was wondering. If you didn't have any plans, my break is about to start and I was wondering..." Sasha perked up, gasping silently. In the blink of an eye, she had an elbow on the desk.
"Oui, ma beauté à lunettes?" she said through a wide, toothy grin, eyebrows locked in prime smolder position.
"...if you wanted to have a Pokemon battle with me! I just started a few weeks ago, and I know you're a trainer too! Pretty please?" Womp, womp.
"O-oh."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 09, 2013 2:26 pm
While Mike was aware that Rock Polish wasn't anything to scoff at, the sight of a Geodude acting like a Growlithe puppy was just too amusing not to find at least a little humor in it.
This could be problematic if you don't retaliate.
"Of course. What do you think this is, my first battle? Pumpkin! Let's show them your special move! Heat Wave!" As a self-proclaimed Fire Pokemon expert, Mike was well aware of how powerful of an attack Heat Wave was. It was often one of the last moves a Fire type would learn, but his special little Litwick was born with it. Also intimately familiar with how much of a problem Rock types were to his Pokemon of choice, Mike couldn't help but test if the power of the move would offset the Geodude's latent resistance. Flapping his little tiny ghost arms, Pumpkin took in a breath. The tip of his wick lit up, and soon expanded into a comparatively large fireball; at least when measured next to him. The ball churned and roared in place before exploding, rushing forth in a wave of fire which dissipated rather quickly. However, while the properties of fire attacks were often painfully obvious, this was one exception. All but invisible to the naked eye, the now super-heated air spiraled towards the Geodude, the drag tugging at Mike's clothes. Had be been wearing a hat, it would have been on the other side of the gym.
Not bad for a baby.
"Not bad at all!"
-----
"So is that a no?" Cindy said after Sasha failed to really finish her last thought.
"Oh, non! Of course I w'eel do battle with you! Désolé, ma cherie, I am st'eel a b'eet flustered from z'he shoot."
"Okay! I'll meet you outside in just a moment. I need to write down these last few appointments."
It was now a bit past the beginning of dusk in Celadon. Despite it being right in the middle of the summer, the city always found a way to be rather chilly once the sun went down, no matter the year. When she was around four, Sasha made the mistake of believing Bishop when he told her the reason for this was that Celadon was once the nesting place of the legendary Pokemon Articuno, and that it was driven out when the city was built. As punishment, the beast cursed the evil humans with perpetual winter once the sun went down. Four year old Sasha accepted this as gospel, but then again, four year old Sasha was an idiot. Regardless, she was happy that she had a jacket with her.
"Hey Sasha!" Cindy said as she walked outside of the agency. "Yikes, it's cold tonight!"
"Oui. Artikodin must be especially grouchy tonight." She replied without even thinking. Thank goodness Bishop wasn't around to hear it.
"Huh?"
"Nos'hing. Shall we?"
The girls put some distance between themselves and the agency. Several months back, a trainer's Graveler battling right outside caused one of the sets to collapse with a particularly potent Magnitude attack, ruining one of Celete's sessions. From what Cindy told her, the boy responsible almost forgot to recall his Pokemon he ran from her so fast. The pair walked down a few blocks before making it to one of Celadon's many public parks. "Z'his should do!" Indeed it did, as Sasha could see another battle taking place off in the distance. She squinted. A Diglett and a...Raticate. "Ready?"
"Ready!"
And then the Pokeballs flew.
"Oh god, what now?" Jasper muttered, his voice muffled by the very grass he'd just planted his face into. He could feel something poking at his leg and reflexively he kicked out at it, hearing a familiar shriek as his shoe made contact with the Paras. Croconaw had collapsed to the ground in a fit of hysterical laughter, pointing at her trainer like he was the funniest thing she'd ever seen. Hoping to retain at least some shred of dignity, Jasper pulled himself up to his knees, looking back over his shoulder to see that he'd tripped over a round, purple and very fuzzy beach ball. With antennae. And large red eyes- oh wait, it wasn't a beach ball at all; it was a Pokemon. "Oh, I know this one! It's Ven-o-nat," he said, probably sounding a lot more excited than he should be as he yanked out his PokeDex and pointed it at the beach ball, err, Pokemon.
"Venonat, the Insect Pokemon," the device informed him, prompting an "aww yesss" from Jasper as he was quite pleased with himself over getting it right, even if he had (and likely would continue to) botch the pronunciation. "Its eyes also function as radar units. It catches and eats small bugs that hide in darkness."
Jasper closed his PokeDex and stood up, looking at the Venonat with what was easily one of his most smug smirks. "You're mine, little Ven-o-nat," he said, but quickly realized two thing: the Park Ball he'd initially readied had been dropped when he tripped and had rolled off to Arceus-knows-where and two; the Venonat was clearly more interested in the Paras than Jasper and his giggly Croconaw. "Oh right, you're still here," Jasper murmured, warily eyeing the Mushroom Pokemon. "Yo, Croconaw, a little help here?" he asked, snapping his fingers at the gator.
The water type jumped to her feet and gave herself a shake- yep, she was good now. Recalling something about promises to gnaw on some bugs, the gator faced the two insects, being sure to give them a very good look at her razor-sharp fangs. Still decidedly uninterested in Jasper and his toothy Pokemon, the fluffy insect's antennae twitched, its red eyes taking on an almost sinister glow. The same crimson outline surrounded the Paras who was then lifted off the ground by an unseen force before being sent flying through the air; keeping up with today's theme for airborne bug types currently without wings: adapt/evolve or die.
* * * * * * * * * *
And on her way she was- after a quick stop for supplies (consisting primarily of several brand-new sketchbooks and varying types of pencils) Hayley continued her determined march in what she hoped was the general direction of the entrance to Diglett's Cave. It only took about ten minutes or so for her to become bored/lonely so she let Cynder out of his Pokeball, feeling as though the Charmeleon deserved some alone time with his Hayley. Cynder couldn't agree more and walked along beside his trainer, grateful for the break from his rambunctious teammates. The Charmeleon hated to admit it but he was starting to miss those early days when it was just him (and maybe that pipsqueak Rattata, as well).
It took a lot longer than necessary for the quirky girl to get herself on the right path, as it wasn't terribly uncommon for Hayley to get distracted by all sorts of things. By now, Cynder had become pretty talented at keeping his trainer on track and after about an hour or two they'd managed to stumble onto the path that would lead them to where they wanted to go. At long last (not really) the duo stood looking into the abyss (an exaggeration, really) and Hayley pursed her lips. "It's... more of a big hole, isn't it?" she asked Cynder, who could only give a shrug in reply. It wasn't like he went around investigating every cave he happened to stumble across.
"Ooh, do you hope we'll see any Diglett?" the brunette asked her slightly-annoyed fire type as the two entered the cavern - it was as though Hayley had completely forgotten that she'd battled (and defeated) a Diglett only yesterday. "I wonder if there are any other Pokemon in here? If so, then maybe they'd have to call it Diglett & Friends' Cave. Though that's not nearly as catchy..." she continued, her voice echoing loudly in the tunnel and causing the Charmeleon to roll his eyes. He silently prayed that they did find something of interest so Hayley would maybe stop talking for thirty-five seconds.
Ben grinned. "You really think so?" he asked, excited about the prospect of owning a new Pokemon. He was already thinking of what kinds he would like the best. Turning around as Kasiya and Shocker marched off, he followed behind them at a light jog, eager to see what sort of training he could accomplish, and what new Pokemon he could find.
When they got up on the road, Ben tilted his head curiously. "Where did you grow up? Are you from Johto, too? How many badges do you have? You must have at least one with a Pokemon like Shocker, without a doubt." He watched as the electric type walked beside her trainer. He thought she was kind of cute, the way the two acted together.
"A psychic bug, how cool is that?" Jasper asked once the Paras' shrieks of terror had faded from earshot. The Venonat looked back at Jasper and his Pokemon, still not all that impressed with them. "Croconaw, go get it," Jasper said, prompting one of the Venonat's antenna to twitch. Croconaw, however, had gotten a pretty good look at the Confusion-wielding puffball and had absolutely no interest in flying lessons on this particular day. The gator quickly jumped back and tapped Jasper's leg, essentially tagging her trainer in to take her place. Anyone who was fluent in Croconaw-speak would also know at that time that she'd said 'hahaha no, all yours buddy; good luck with that.'
It took Jasper a few seconds to catch on before giving Croconaw an incredulous glare. "Well, look at the big, brave Pokemon," he grumbled. "Scared of an itty-bitty bug?"
For reasons unknown to even it, Venonat had yet to make its brilliant escape, though when Jasper called it itty-bitty, both of its antennae twitched, but it remained silent. Either it didn't care all that much, or it was curious to see what this idiotic human would do next.
Jasper's attempts to provoke his Pokemon didn't appear to be working as Croconaw turned her back on him, now picking at her teeth with a claw. "Oh, that's just great, I have to do everything myself," Jasper sighed, clearly not over-exaggerating in the slightest and suddenly wishing he'd brought Ditto in here with him instead. "Okay, fine, no problem, I've got this," the bandanna-clad youth said with a nod. He took up another empty Park Ball and winged it at the Venonat, which probably wasn't such a bad plan - save for the part where he forgot to aim. The sphere flew about three feet over Venonat's head and disappeared into the long grass behind them.
'Nice, Jasper, very nice,' the boy thought, keeping his expression calm despite the fact that Croconaw had fallen apart with another fit of hysterical laughter. "Yeah, because you're such a help," he growled, glaring at the water type before fishing out yet another Park Ball, though this time he was a lot more careful as he let it fly.
As it turned out, lengthy, hollowed-out caverns weren't nearly as exciting or interesting as Hayley thought they would be, and it wasn't long before the girl with the seemingly-boundless energy was dragging her heels, occasionally groaning about not-fun this whole excursion was. Cynder, on the other hand, reveled in the quiet for at least a portion of the trip, but it wasn't long before the hot-headed Pokemon was starting to feel antsy, as well. He'd missed out on that last gym battle after all, and though he'd known it was for is own good (who in their right mind wants to be clobbered by a rock, anyway), he couldn't help but feel like he wasn't pulling his own weight.
The Charmeleon's tail flame served as a very nice torch, as well, as even though they didn't technically need to use Flash to get through here, it wasn't exactly well-lit. The ground was rough and uneven and peppered with all sorts of holes, as well as many winding and twisting trails of upturned earth. Any watcher worth their salt knew those were Diglett trails (even if the fact that Hayley and Cynder's current locale was called Diglett's Cave served as a rather large hint, after all) and Hayley proudly pointed them out to Cynder, who simply nodded along as though he gave two embers about a stinkin' Diglett.
The fiery lizard would soon learn to be a bit less stingy with his cares, for as he and his girl had made it about halfway through the painfully straightforward and tediously long cavern, the Charmeleon's foot got caught up in one of the many Diglett-made holes and the lizard fell forward before leaving a remarkable indent of his own face in the dirty ground. This type of clumsiness was uncharacteristic of Cynder and it made Hayley stop in her tracks. "Cynder, are you okay?" she asked her partner, concern flooding her voice. "Did you need to take a break? Are you hungry?" The flustered Pokemon got to his feet and snorted before he continued to stomp forward, apparently having had enough of this stupid cave.
"Yup, that I do," Kasiya answered eagerly, taking notice of a sign posted along the side of the road that informed them that they were heading along Route 30. Her mind was already racing with the virtually limitless possibilities of Pokemon for Ben to catch, and she was obviously quite excited to find out what kinds of Pokemon he'd like to add to his team. With an Electric-type and Normal/Flying-type already on hand, something fundamental, like a Water-type or Fire-type seemed like a solid choice. Shocker walked along beside the two humans, lost in her own thoughts, but not enough to stop her from occasionally scaring off small flocks of Pidgey and Spearow with flares of harmless electricity.
"Me? Nah, I'm a Kanto girl," she answered, nodding thoughtfully as Ben inquired about her hometown, among other things. "I grew up in Vermilion City, and practically inside the Vermilion Gym, at that. As for badges, well..." she stopped walking and opened up the flap of her bag and fished around in it for a few moments before she pulled out a small cloth pouch. "I guess I really need to get a badge case or something for these," she mumbled to herself as she dumped the rainbow-assortment of badges into her hand. "I currently have eight altogether - six from Kanto, and two from Hoenn," she said, separating the Heat and Mind Badges from the others. "I will get that seventh Kanto badge soon, though," she said, nodding fiercely. Shocker nodded eagerly as well - she'd be damned if she was going to miss another gym battle!
We may have the advantage, but that doesn't mean we don't have to be careful, Jaeshan thought, beautifully overlooking the fact that the Pokemon were actually equal in terms of weakness - Bibarel's Water-typing was strong against Monferno's Fire-typing, while the chimp's Fighting-type moves would score some serious damage on the Normal-type Beaver in turn. "Water Gun," the blond called out, deciding he wasn't going to waste any time. Bibarel's cheeks ballooned out and she quickly sent a jet of water sailing toward Lisa's Monferno.
Lisa's eyes had gone wide at the sight of the Beaver Pokemon, however, and even as it had sent a Water Gun flying at her Monferno. "It's so cuuuuute!" she squeaked, prompting Jaeshan to tilt his head in confusion. Monferno didn't think Bibarel was very cute - not when she was rudely spitting water at him and he danced to the side, avoiding the attack with little effort. Shooting a look back at his enamored trainer, the chimp realized he'd temporarily lost her, so he was going to have to take matters into his own hands. With a growl, his tail flame blazed brightly and he zipped across the ground, arm reared back and already starting to glow as he thrust it into the Beaver Pokemon's chest for a Mach Punch.
"Oh right, Fighting-type, Normal -type, great," Jaeshan muttered, now realizing his oversight. "Bibarel, fight back with a Headbutt while it's close!" he called. The Beaver did just that, rubbing the place where she'd been punched before launching herself forward and barreling into Monferno with her solid head, making it the chimp's turn to stagger back a bit. "Lisa, are you okay over there?" he called, a bit worried. It wasn't like he could remember all of the blue-haired girl's quirks.
"Hmm? Oh! Right, sorry!" Lisa called back, shrugging it off like it was nothing. "I just really love Bibarel! They're so cute and huggable and I just love them! That doesn't mean we won't hit it with everything we've got! Monferno, fight back with Fury Swipes!" Having not been fond of being Headbutted, Monferno jumped forward, screeching loudly as he repeatedly slashed his claws at Bibarel. This part of the battle was far from over, it seemed.
My, my, not only is that Gardevoir lovely, but she is strong, too, Erika thought, giving a slight nod of approval. It appeared as though Riza was done playing around, however, quickly ordering Yula to use Psychic - a powerful attack, indeed.
"Vileplume, darling, Protect," Erika said quietly, bowing her head and closing her eyes. Now, she really was just postponing the inevitable, that she knew, but she wasn't one to just give in. Vileplume gave a cry as she raised her arms, forming a round, shining barrier of green light that rippled as Yula's Psychic blast struck it.
