I play flute!

Yay!

Open-hole, B foot.

No fair. ;_; I want one so bad. Preferably before I go off to college. But now I'm staying in high school an extra year, so I've got a while to obtain one. 3nodding
My old flute was in desperate need of repair, and during that time, I got an early Christmas gift.

I am so happy!

I play that too =)
It's only about a month old, I got it just in time for our winter concert.

I took 4 of the plugs out in 3 weeks, and left the G key in because it's inline, and the adjustment is hard. Then my lesson teacher got mad and took away all of the plugs, so I learned as quick as possible to play it fully open holed.

Chica, I've been around girls WAYYYY too much. The flute'ss heritage is made up of mostly girls.(No problem with that...)

Hence why I freak out in random situations...and sometimes act like a girl.(Online only, mind you).

Sorry if I sound gay, I'm actually rather straight. XD

We have 48 flutes! three of them are guy flutes!

It doesn't matter if your a guy or gay... What matters is that you like the instrument and you enjoy it. One of the most famous flute players was a guy anyways. He played with a golden flute.

The piccolo player at my school says that piccolos cause cancer. ...
It's true. It said so in our pamphlet thingie at our winter concert. biggrin

A lot of famous flautists are male... And a lot of them have golden flutes... You rarely hear of a female professional anymore to be exact... Which is sad.

Everything in this world can give you cancer it seems like. I don't believe that for a second.

Ick, do any of your flutes smell...really terribly?

I've tried everything, but I just can't get rid of that dirty flute smell, and it stays on my hands all day, even when washed. >.<

I bet though that there will be this whole new female flute phenomiom soon... Expectually because most of the flutes in high school bands now are female...

We actually have a few male flutists... I know the lowest band has 4 or 5, we have one in our band, and none in the one above because they've all graduated. Each year we march 3 male flutists in a section of about 24-28 depending on year.

There used to be a lot of male flutists, but then everyone hit high school and the stress built up so people started doing hw more often than band, nobody has the time commitment and ability to keep up with marching band and school. And then outside of marching season, there's concerts and rehearsals and required individual practice times.

My school hasn't had any male flutists for the sixish years I've been playing. I live in a very...catty...area, and even in fourth grade, they were all scared of being called "gay." *Le sigh*

Yeah I'm glad there is a flute forum.
I just joined this guild and Gaia and so far it seems good.
As for this paticular forum it is the best I've played the flute for almost four years now and love it very much. I too have an open B-foot. My fingers are too small to reach it though. redface sweatdrop
In my band there are only three flutes if you count me. Though in the younger band (they split up the two middle school ones) there are like ten. So next year there are going to be about 13 flutes if everyone still continues to play. sweatdrop This is good but all the younger kids just need a bit more practice I know they can do it!!! As for me as soon as I get out of School and go to college I plan to take up the flute proffesionaly for life!. 4laugh biggrin

In the lower band at my school there are no male flutists and in the higher band, we have one. But he's second to last chair...
During marching, there're two male flutists but one plays the barry sax during non marching season.
Although most professionals are males.

It's too bad my school doesn't really allow the switching of instruments -- not that there's much to switch to, anyway. I'd really like to play other, less popular instruments. One of my best friends plays the harp, for example; wouldn't that be so fun? I'd also like the bassoon, but my band doesn't offer it. Keh.

Not that I don't love the flute, of course! 'Twas my first love and will always remain my favourite. I'd just like to try different things sometimes, know what I mean?

I still love the sound of the flute.... if it's played right. Now I on the other hand can't play my flute too well... I would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather be on drum line. They're..... amazing! I envy them so much because they're so close and so disciplined and so good. I'm just sad becuse I don't think I'd be able to do that too well either.

Haha, I hear you. I can't stand taking orders from people, and thus, I'd be pretty turrible on the drumline. The military too, for that matter. It's funny, I have no desire to play percussion, and yet am always drumming on things with my fingers. o.O

I blame the parades for my tapping. everyone in my marching band taps. Even colorguard.

I'm actually pretty good at taking orders and the long practices aren't that bad as long as I get a HUGE amount of sunscreen. I wouldn't mind staying in the drum room and losing my hearing. and I would love to be with the people. BUT I'm scared that I won't be good at it and I'll bring down the calibar (?) of the line with my offbeat-sucks-ism

(as you might have read in the past few pages) My fluteboy is graauating this year. HE was pretty wonderful. I'm going to miss him. HE is most definitely straight (dating another of the flutes) and we joked around with him so much. his first year the flute section snuck away during sectionals and hid in the girls room. they sat and read cosmo-girl the whole time xp

eek A guy flute player?! Section Leader?! *squee* That would totally rock! Where I come from guys wont even go near the flute *darn redknecks* but I saw one at my band camp I went to at FSU and he was awesome!! A bit flirtatious but cool I would love to have a guy in our section lol let alone section leaders. I think guys would be better my section leader is totally wiggy when she's pms'ing and mood swings eeeks see guys wouldnt have that problem lol

If only more girls at my school were like you...

I'll be section leader in three years(I'm majorly advanced in flute and I've gone to our "upper classmen" band in my freshman year), and I really don't think the girls will find it cool or anything. v_v

Then again, you never know with Wisconsinites XD
