They may be running out of animals to base some pokemon off of.
...I STILL want to see a Fire/Water type.

Meta_Fish Mecca_Fish the Lord Zylo This, but because he evolved at level 32 into Venasaur when the others evolved at 36. Plus he was obviously the best choice... and the coolest ever in the anime. I just loved Bulbasaur. I want one. It makes me cry, even still, that they aren't real. Yea, that's where my love started. When my friend pointed out how fast he learned grass moves and how much they pwn'd Brock and Misty. Good reasons. heart He's also resistant to the Surge. The Surge. xD Yes!

TtheHero Owwin I want to see starters that aren't Fire, Grass, Water. What other types balance like that? I was thinking Ice, Ground, Rock or something, but I don't they they work just right.
Has Bug/Ground been done before for any pokemon?

Even if he ran into something he couldn't handle, he could set up another Pokémon for success.

Wormadam can be a bug/ground if it's evolved in the right place. =D @ Owwin I'd be picking the psychic in that trio. @ the whole trio argument The point is that Fire, Grass, and Water are some of the more attributed "powerful" elements, or even "base" elements in the pokemon series. In the first gen, they were even the rarer types; especially Fire. The reason they've carried on, I'm assuming, is simply because they find a tradition. I always wanted to be able to start using whatever pokemon I wanted.

Electricity, Rock, Water (could switch with ice maybe?) To be honest, I don't know all the strengths/weaknesses.

I think they still use Fire/Grass/Water because they balance the easiest. If they were to do another Weakness/Resistance triangle, it'd end up along the lines of an over powered type like Psychic, or an underpowered type like Flying.

That's the beauty of starter pokemon, though. They can be given moves and stat-enhancements that their type normally shouldn't have!
