It wasn't until after Shocker unleashed her Discharge that Kasiya remembered the Espeon could use Protect, but she still continued to smile regardless. Even if it had saved itself now, the chances of a second Protect working right away would diminish and eventually the Psychic-type would get the shock of its life. As the electricity fizzled out with a large crackle, the blonde was surprised to see the Psychic-type slowly getting to its feet, static clinging to its velvety-soft fur. It gave a pained cry and flinched as a secondary wave of static rippled over its body, causing it to fall to its belly. All right, paralysis! Kasiya thought excitedly. She never did argue luck when it was on her side. The gentleman, however, had also caught on to his Pokemon's paralysis, but he didn't give any sign that the turn of events had bothered him. In fact, he even gave a bit of a smile himself.

It was that moment that the Espeon seemed to glow, and a second or so later, Shocker gave a squeal as her body was wracked with a sudden flare of electricity, bringing her down to all fours. Kasiya stared in awe for a couple of moments until she remembered that Espeon had the same ability as Umbreon. "Synchronize," she said quietly to herself. "I knew that!" Despite her trainer's worry, the brave Electric-type pulled herself back up and glared at the Espeon. All the paralysis in the world wasn't going to stop her from taking down that rotten Psychic-type! Meanwhile, the gentleman had called out a command, but neither Kasiya nor Shocker heard it, but whatever it was it would have to wait as the pinkish Eeveelution temporarily found itself unable to move.

Time to capitalize, Kasiya thought, narrowing her eyes. She did know that there was a good chance that Shocker would also be unable to move for now, but she had to try; if anything, just to wipe that smug little smirk of the older man's face. After everything she'd been through; everything she'd done, she was going to make people pay for underestimating her. "All or nothing," she told herself, steadying her resolve. "Go for it, Shocker! Thunder!"

Lisa's suggestion prompted yet another smile from Jaeshan, and he chuckled. "I'd like that very much, actually," he said. "Though, since I can't remember for the life of me any of your Pokemon, they'll all be new to me." He laughed again, though Lisa didn't seem find his comment to be amusing. "Oh, do you have any of my other Pokemon?" he asked, refraining to mention that he didn't remember any of them, either.

Lisa shook her head. "No, sorry. Just Salamence. 'Cause, you know, for flying back to Hoenn. When you feel up to it, anyway. I'm not gonna drag you back against your will." The blue-haired girl, still full of spunk, practically danced to the other side of the outdoor battlefield, already holding up a Pokeball for Jaeshan to see. "So how are we gonna do this?" she called, now spinning the sphere on the end of her finger.

Jaeshan shrugged in reply as he and Salamence retreated to the end of the field opposite Lisa. "I don't know," he admitted. "I've got four Pokemon. Well, five, if you include Salamence." He thought back to the battle against the biker goons with Jade yesterday, realizing that Lisa had already seen both his Sigilyph and Grotle. It didn't matter, though, as a battle was a battle. "Let's just call it an exhibition battle. A training match, if you will." He withdrew the Avianoid Pokemon's Pokeball and tossed it out, revealing the strange, ancient-looking Pokemon. Almost immediately Sigilyph could sense something different about his trainer, having spun around to stare at him with a critical eye. "Sigilyph... what's wrong?" the boy asked, feeling as though the Psychic-type was staring into his very soul. "Everything... okay?"

While it was true that Lisa had seen Jaeshan's strange Flying-type yesterday, she still didn't know much about it, other than the fact that it was rather tough. She knew the Pokemon she planned to send out first wasn't likely to win against the odd Sigilyph, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to give it her best shot regardless. "Okay Shellos, let's go!" she called, throwing out her Pokeball. A pink, slug-like Pokemon appeared on the ground in front of her, looking way too happy to be there. It slithered forward, wearing a large, almost dopey grin. "Okay, Jae! Ready when you guys are!" Lisa called out. Her pink Shellos gave a gurgling-sound of agreement.

Carlos eyed the little Tympole carefully as it hopped around in the water shallows. It may have been a water type, but it was still young and not fully developed. That tadpole body might have been fine for a lake or stream, but it would be some time before he was strong enough to swim the ocean currents comfortable. Luckily the Dewford waves were gentle, and he was sticking so close to the sandy area that the water was practically receding by the time it reached him. Still he watched Ricardo closely just in case. Not to mention he was so very intrigued by that Earth Power that he'd unleashed earlier. He and Hector were caught right in the middle of this little's one's destructive game, had he been older the attack would have had some potentially dangerous kick to it. "..hmm, very strange. Muy especial, un bebe de el cielo. The forces that brought you to me, a very powerful force was involved for sure. I don't believe it to have been random happen stance, no no. Estoy fuy con purpose. A legendary pokemon, only they could have that kind of power. But who, and why? Porque?" Carlos took his tome out from beneath his poncho, thumbing through it's pages. He'd only translated so much of the tome, and nothing he could read so far mentioned anything like this. Plus it was such a vague event, all he knew was there was pressure in his mind, and then the egg appeared. Nothing else, no other signs that could be tied to any one of the pokemon he'd read about. It could be any of them really, and if it was a psychic type like he thought, it really didn't narrow the field any. More research had to be done for sure, but as he looked down the beach and came upon a familiar sight he grinned. "But first, why not have a little fun. Badges aren't really my thing but polishing our choreography is never a bad thing. Vamos chico!" Carlos recalled the little Tympole and sped off towards the Dewford gym.

"....the hell?" As his eyes clenched tightly before opening slowly, Crenu's vision started to come into focus. His senses were distorted, he didn't know what was going on as he stared directly up at a very close ceiling. The cool metal at his back was the same as the wall to his side and all around, he was enclosed in a somewhat confined space it would seem. As he tied to move his hands he was met with resistance and an incredibly sharp pain that shot through his body starting at his shoulder. He winced as he tried to suck the pain back in and ignored it, shaking his head into further clarity. "Riza..." She was the very last person he had seen, the last thing he remembered was being in her arms. "s**t....they drugged me at the hospital. And then...oh." The events ll unfolded at once in his head as he remembered, no doubt he was in prison now. But this wasn't a prison cell...where was he? And why was he so sore? As his blurry vision and dulled senses started to focus with every passing moment, he sat up and noticed a heat and red glow coming from behind him, visible through a small grated window that was at his feet. Now that he looked at it, the room he was in was dented all to hell. A droplet of warm blood hit his legs, coming from his head which he was also starting to realize hurt as well, but not nearly as much as his shoulder. Carefully he moved his wrists, and the chain link sound confirmed it. He figured it out all at once as his brain started to function again, more or less.

He was sitting in the van that was supposed to take him away to the asylum, and his wrists were cuffed behind his back. However, there was no motion. No sound, no nothing save for the crackling sound in the background. He didn't know how it happened, nor why it happened, but his new injuries and over all soreness, as well as the state of the room made it obvious. He wasn't in a cruiser, but in a van, probably being taken to an asylum then instead of prison. There had been an accident, the van that he was currently sitting in must have gone off the road. Human error no doubt. But the van flipped, probably rolled a few times by the looks of it, the dented up look of the walls were a clear sign of that, the grate being at his feet rather than his head meant that the van was now upside down, no doubt his now bleeding head wound came from being a rag doll inside a tumbling van, the least they could have done was strap him in. He was lucky he was alive, those morons. He probably dislocated his shoulder during that event as well, explaining the pain. The fact that he woke up alone and in this situation meant that his captors were either unconscious, trapped, or dead, he didn't care which. If this thing was on fire then it was only a matter of time before a bad situation got worse. As painful as it was, dislocating his shoulder was a blessing in disguise. Crenu wasted no time in assessing the situation and making a plan, if he wasn't still dulled from hitting his head or the drugs, maybe both, this could have hurt a hell of a lot more than it did, and it hurt like hell already. Bracing himself he moved his arms, his dislocated shoulder giving him that little extra wiggle room to get his legs tucked in and over, and even Crenu couldn't keep the tears at bay from the pain of forcing his shoulder to move as he brought his arms under his tucked legs and in front of him. At the very least, arms in front were more useful than arms behind his back. Using his good arm and the van wall for support, he clenched tightly and pressed against it, forcing his shoulder back into it's socket. He did it in one quick popping motion, and tossed his head back as he collapsed to his knees letting out an ear splitting scream as the pain washed over his body. But he couldn't stop. Not now. The pain was nothing compared to his survival instinct.

He ran, good shoulder first, into the van doors again and again, each thud moving the metal doors just a little bit at a time before bouncing him back. It hurt each time, and he felt like he was about to dislocate this shoulder too, but he didn't care. The door's integrity had been compromised during the crash, otherwise he wouldn't have even attempted this, the sliver of light from the two doors parting becoming wider and wider with each body slam. The hinges cried with every tackle, and suddenly they gave in and broke, the doors swinging open as Crenu came tumbling out. So far so good. He didn't know where he was, it was dark and he was still disoriented, knocking himself around on purpose sure didn't help. He didn't know where the asylum was located but he knew damn well he couldn't have been in Celedon anymore or anywhere near a major street or someone would have come to help. Still, they'd come looking for the missing van eventually, probably sooner than later if they weren't on their way already. Crenu was panting hard, in all kinds of pain, confused, but damn it if he was going to give in now. Where he was going to go, how he was going to get there, he didn't know. His pokemon were gone, Riza was gone, everything was over. As he got up and walked around the van, he saw one of the men in white laying in the grass, based on the amount of blood he wasn't as lucky as Crenu had been. Pitty. Crenu had no qualms about robbing a dead man though, not right now at least, and so he searched the body for a set of keys. Luckily enough this was his guy, and after a few wrong tries he found the right key to his cuffs. He decided to keep the cuffs and key, never know when they might come in handy. There seemed to be little else of use on the man save for some money, so with a small amount of cash he fled the scene, running as fast as he could.

Now, Keegan would have loved to shout some snappy, clever and scathing comeback at Dante - something about him not having the legs to pull off a skirt or something along those lines, but Norman's next command pulled his attention back to the battle, and rightfully so. His green eyes went wide as the seemingly lazy and lethargic Slaking lumbered to her feet and began to charge at Boris. "Oh, s**t," was all the redhead could mutter as the large, glowing Normal-type slammed into the slightly-smaller Camerupt. Keegan had been fully expecting to see Boris go flying across the gym, but just the opposite happened: Boris hardly moved an inch despite absorbing the raw power of Slaking's Giga Impact, but it was easy to see that the Camerupt wouldn't be participating in the battle any longer. He toppled to the side, causing the whole gym to rock as he hit the ground and it was then that the redhead remembered that his Pokemon weighed almost five-hundred pounds. That's why he didn't go flying, Keegan thought as he recalled the fallen Pokemon. Even still, that's some power.

Keegan looked down at the sphere before attaching it to his belt, brow furrowed in concentration as he tried to decide on what Pokemon to send out last. In all honesty, his first instinct was to send out Helios and have the trusty Ninetales char the massive Slaking to a crisp, but then again the fox was male and therefore susceptible to being Attracted, and he openly winced at the thought of Helios being hit by one of those Giga Impacts. "Only one choice," he said to himself, deciding to take a chance. "It's all up to you now." With a flick of his wrist, a Great Ball was sent spiraling out onto the field, and his recently-evolved Arcanine appeared in a bright flash of white light, snarling and obviously eager to fight. He wasn't sure if Norman would know that Eithne was female or not but that wasn't the point - it was that she would be immune to Slaking's Attract in the first place. He also knew that Slaking couldn't move after using Giga Impact, Truant ability or not, but he still didn't want the Fire-type getting too close to it either way. "Flamethrower," he called, a bit of excitement in his voice. Eithne planted her massive front paws on the ruined gym floor before expelling a searing blast of fire at the Slaking. Keegan smirked, easily impressed by both the Arcanine's spirit and power. This was it, he was getting that fifth badge come hell or high water, or even both.

Professor Juniper wasn't surprised in the slightest when she heard Miharu's reluctant reply, as she could plainly see that the young girl was almost in tears. She was certain that it had something to do with her missing Pokemon, as it couldn't have been easy to have to start all over from the beginning after coming so far - six badges was three quarters of the way from a full set, after all. "Miharu," she started, blatantly ignoring the heated looks that Taryn was shooting their way, "I know you miss your other Pokemon; I can't even begin to understand how you must be feeling, let alone empathize with you. I know that it may be difficult for you to accept, I truly do believe that choosing one of the three will be the best thing for you."

It was incredibly difficult for Miharu to keep her tears in check but she somehow managed it, nodding meekly as Professor Juniper spoke even if she couldn't disagree more. The small girl glanced over at Taryn and Bradley, the former of which was looking very standoffish as she glared daggers at the Professor's back. The boy continued to look very confused; but why shouldn't he? He was just supposed to come and get a Pokemon, not be caught up in some other kid's drama. "A-alright, professor. If you insist," she said after several long seconds of tense silence. Her voice had a sort of cold, dry finality to it, as though she'd just decided to give up the argument before it could even start. Not only did she feel like Juniper would keep pressing the issue until she gave in anyway, she also figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to get out of here at some point. Sure, she was upset with the professor at this very second, but she felt as though she'd already been enough of a burden to the woman as it is.

"Can we pick our Pokemon now?" Taryn asked in an extremely bored voice, also tapping her foot to emphasize her impatience.

"Yes, Taryn, go right ahead," Juniper said, once again adopting her cheerful persona. "I'm sure the three of you can work something out, correct?"

"Of course, Professor," the girl answered quickly and earnestly, though Miharu didn't miss the glimmer of malice in her eyes. "I'm sure the three of us will be just fine."

"Y-yes, Professor, we can manage," the timid boy said finally. Miharu just nodded, somehow knowing that this wouldn't end well for her.

Damien and Gastly both watched in silence as the Steelix began to thrash around, the confusion having settled in just nicely. Damien had opened his mouth to call for Gastly to use a Night Shade attack when suddenly the large, metallic snake had set its sights on the boy's Ghost-type and was soon shooting off a ball of energy at him. "Gastly!" Damien called out, showing the first concern for his Pokemon in all the time he'd known Karrigan thus far. The ball smacked Gastly right between the eyes and the ghost went down, hitting the ground with an audible thud, which meant Gastly was currently tangible. That did not happen very often. "Gastly... are you all right?" the dark-haired youth called, peering at the downed Pokemon through his glasses.

"A bit shaken up, but I'll manage," Gastly managed after a moment or two, slowly floating back up again. "Might I be so bold as to suggest I use Giga Drain? That last attack was quite painful."

"Go right ahead," Damien said, leaning back on a heel. He'd already planned to change commands after seeing that Smack Down anyhow. Gastly's already large eyes began to shimmer, the air around him distorting as he focused on drawing Aegeus' life energy away from him in order to steal it for himself.

The Memory Experiment

Claire walked over to her pokemon. “So it was an Egg that she tried to hide as the match started off.” She bent down and picked it up. Although it was warm, she didn’t seem to notice much else coming from it. It probably wasn’t going to hatch in the next day, but it couldn’t take more than a week or two more. “Judging from the pinkish colors on it, the egg is not the same kind of Pokemon that Namidagoe is.” She said to her companion, who barked in agreement. Kokoro could tell by the scent that it wasn’t the same kind of Pokemon.

“What are you doing here?” A voice said from behind her.

Claire spun on her heels, not expecting to hear another human voice. Apparently Rajasi had come back! “Oh, I er… heard a noise and went to investigate it.” She lied. Well, part of it was true anyway. Rajasi had made noise when he got up, but there wasn’t much ‘investigating’ required. “So, that Pokemon we battled at the rest house, it followed us all the way here! And apparently had an egg.” She lifted up the object in her arms to highlight her point. “I ended up battling it and captured her though. What are you doing awake at this hour?” It seemed a fair question to throw back at him.

“Oh, I heard a noise too. Guess I missed the Pokemon causing it. I did find Doctor Luria asleep on a computer further down, but didn’t see anything else. Guess I was on the wrong floor.” He replied with a suave smile. “The equipment here makes lots of strange noises, but the dorms are pretty quiet. Seeing as the noise question has been answered, I’m off to bed.” He added, as he began walking back down the hallway toward the dormitory.

”Right, suppose I should be getting there too.” Claire responded. Although she was annoyed she didn’t find out what Rajasi was up to, she was glad to have added another member to her party. The two made their way back to their bunks without further ado. A light rain began to fall as Claire settled down for the inevitable dawn. Just a little longer, and then she might have some answers…

Riza watched attentively as Erika recalled her fainted Pokemon, and she nodded at the compliment. "Thank you, your Victreebel isn't so bad, either," she said, and genuinely meant it. It had been quite the annoying Pokemon, between its Toxic and Gastro Acid attacks. If Faustus hadn't known Ice Beam and Flamethrower, she was sure this round would probably have ended differently. She raised an eyebrow as the Vileplume was sent out and she withdrew her pokedex to give it a quick glance. Erika wasn't wasting any time however, as she quickly called for an Attract, and the rapidly weakening Faustus couldn't avoid the pink hearts that swirled around him. 'Oh, goody, now we're badly poisoned and infatuated,' the raven haired girl thought with a scowl. "Faustus, shake it off! Flamethrower, go!" she called sharply, but the Dragonair didn't move, he just stayed in the same place as he swooned over whom he truly believed to be the love of his life, at least for now. "Dammit," Riza muttered. This round wasn't going to end well, she was certain of that.

Katie's bravado remained in check for the entire time it took her to walk to the Veilstone City gym, and if anything she felt even more ready than before as she pushed open the doors and headed inside. It was pretty much what she was expecting for a gym that specialized in fighting-types, a dojo like building with wood decor and sliding panel doors. In the distance she could hear the sounds of the gym members going through their training and Katie quietly wondered where the gym leader might be.

"Hey, you! Are you looking for Maylene?" a voice called out to her from the shadows.

Katie turned around in time to see a young boy wearing a ninja outfit jump out from behind a potted plant. "Um, yes, yes I am," she said, carefully studying the boy. "How long have you been waiting there?"

"A ninja waits in the shadows as long as necessary to surprise his enemies!" the boy said proudly, giving a slight bow. "If you want to battle with Maylene first you'll have to defeat me! My name is Kojiro and I am the youngest member of this dojo, hiiiyah!" Katie had to give him credit though, his hands moved so fast that she didn't even see him throw out the poke ball that revealed a young, yet muscular looking Machop.

"Okay then," was all the orange haired girl could say. The boy had obviously been waiting there a long time so she didn't want to disappoint him. "Okay Darla, let's see what you can do," she called as she sent out the youngest member of her team. "Start off with Reflect!" The little ball of hate known as Katie's Solosis gave an angry cry as a shimmering barrier appeared in front of her, and she stared at her opponent with nothing less than a hate filled gaze. Katie sighed and shook her head. At least the psychic-type had spirit, if that's what you wanted to call it.

They have a name for little Sandslash. another phantom commented, resting its smoky chin in its palm. They're called Sandshrew.

You know what I meant. its glowing eyes narrowed.

"Poison Sting!" Liam ordered, completely ignorant to the ethereal conflict happening around him. Like his larger counterpart, the Sandshrew curled into a ball and fired a light volley of purple barbs at Powalski, who nimbly dodged them and retaliated by slapping the shrew across the face with his tongue. The sound was so satisfying Mike couldn't help but snicker. Even Liam found it amusing, much to the annoyance of his Pokemon.

I wonder if Powalski can learn any fire attacks, a nearby shade remarked, poking out from behind the two still-squabbling ones.

"I wouldn't be surprised." Mike replied. "Normal types can learn an awful lot of strange moves."

"Huh? What're you talking about" Liam asked.

"Normal type Pokemon have oddly diverse move poo-" He stopped. "Nothing, just thinking out loud. Don't mind me. Powalski, uuuuh-Psybeam again!" At this point, Mike was barely paying attention to the battle, and missed the sight of his Kecleon blasting Liam's Pokemon into submission with yet another multi-colored attack.

"Another critical strike?" Liam said, pouting. "Man you sure are lucky." Mike couldn't help but laugh at the suggestion.

"I wouldn't say luck is my best attribute." he said, recalling the jittery lizard. "I've kind of got a bit of an unfair advantage."

"What's that?" Mike replied only by opening the flap of his bag, revealing his ten badges. "Wow!" Liam said, nearly jumping. "That's like, all of the badges in the world!" Once again Mike found the boy's ignorance charming.

"Not the world, just most of the ones from Hoenn. I figured I'd round out my collection a bit to train my less experienced Pokemon."

"You'll probably make short work of Brock then." Liam said, then immediately slapped his hand over his mouth.

"In a standard gym fight, yeah." Mike chuckled. "Pretty sure he'd completely decimate me in an all-out battle. He's got a bit of a type advantage."

Speaking of... a ghost commented, trying to move things along.

"Right. It was nice fighting you Liam, but now I gotta go beat up your boss." With a little wave, Mike turned on his heel and walked towards the main stage. He spun around occasionally, dancing to that silent tune. "Brooock~" he sang out. "I've come to challenge yooou~"

Kasiya felt a rush of pure, unadulterated joy as she called out for Shocker to use her most powerful attack, and at once she was overcome by a feeling of completion. That feeling grew even more upon seeing the wicked bolt of lightning that was called down by the Raichu, and Kasiya figured that karma must have been on her side today as the Espeon couldn't react fast enough to use Protect to save itself, as per its trainer's orders and it shrieked something horrible as the wicked strike had hit its mark. The blonde felt extra lucky because Shocker hadn't been fully paralyzed and the Thunder hadn't missed, either, and she and her faithful partner watched as the pinkish Eeveelution slumped to the ground, electricity crackling over its body. Upon realizing that her opponent was not getting back up again, Shocker relaxed a little, breathing out a heavy sigh. Kasiya's first instinct was to jump up and down excitedly in celebration of their win, but she wisely restrained herself and instead walked over and picked up the paralyzed mouse. "Just like old times," she told the Electric-type fondly.

"Rai-chu," Shocker replied cutely, nuzzling her trainer. While it felt good to be battling again, it felt even better to win again.

"Your Raichu is quite powerful," the gentleman said once he'd returned his fainted Espeon to its Pokeball. "It seems that I underestimated your abilities, and for that, you have my humble apologies. I hope that you and your Raichu continue to grow even stronger," he added before lightly doffing his hat and walking off.

Kasiya and Shocker watched him until he turned a corner. "Okay, that was different," the blonde mused. "Let's get back to the Pokemon Center. You need healing, and I bet my PokeNav is at least mostly charged by now!" Shocker nodded in silent agreement; not being able to move properly was starting to get annoying. If this were under normal circumstances she would have been happy to return to her Pokeball, but it wasn't normal - at least not yet. Being both safe and free was a rather surreal feeling for the mouse, and she planned to stay by her trainer's side as much as she'd allow.

"What the... who's that Pokemon?" Jaeshan murmured, having made a very weird expression upon seeing Lisa's Shellos, though it wasn't like he could say anything. Sigilyph was by far the strangest Pokemon he'd seen by a long shot. Nevertheless, he took out his PokeDex and pointed it at the pink slug. Shellos; the Sea Slug Pokemon. Type: Water. They live alongside bodies of water. Its colors and shapes differ from region to region as it adapts to its habitat - two different types have been confirmed in the Sinnoh region. Beware of pushing strongly on its squishy body as it makes a mysterious, purple fluid ooze out. "Eww, gross," the blond boy mumbled, snapping the device shut. Meanwhile, Lisa had used her own PokeDex to check out Jaeshan's Sigilyph. "Yeah, we're ready," the boy nodded. "Are you giving us the first move?"

"Hell no, we're not," Lisa answered quickly. "Shellos, Water Pulse!" The slug gurgled happily, mouth gaping open as a small orb of pulsating water began to form. With another gurgle, the watery sphere was sent hurtling forward, growing larger and picking up speed as it got closer and closer to Sigilyph.

"Figures," Jaeshan chuckled, though he was a bit unsure as to why he wasn't surprised. "Sigilyph, Calm Mind," he called. The Avianoid Pokemon flapped his skinny wings and drifted back, entire body stating to glow as he focused his mental powers. Jaeshan quickly picked up on the speed advantage Sigilyph held over Lisa's Shellos, as it was the only thing that allowed the Psychic/Flying-type to buff its stats before the Water Pulse crashed into it. Though thoroughly drenched, Sigilyph didn't appear to be distressed, instead staring down the pink Pokemon with its single eye.

"Oh no, don't think you're gonna sit there and power up!" Lisa shouted. "C'mon, Shellos! Hit it hard with your Ice Beam!" Still looking entirely too happy with the whole situation, Shellos inched forward, a cool mist forming around her as she once again opened her mouth. Instead of an orb of water, however, this time she fired a condensed, frigid ray of icy energy at Sigilyph, little flakes of snow and ice drifting down to the ground in their wake.

It was definitely becoming a recurring theme for Karrigan to be wishing she could understand what was being said between Damien and his Gastly, as she wasn't quite sure what move the two had decided to use just now. Her PokeDex told her that it was Giga Drain, something she never would have expected from the Ghost-type, but it was definitely somewhat effective as her Steelix roared in a combination of pain and confusion. The side of the Iron Snake Pokemon's body glowed a strange, almost sickly greenish colour as his health was very literally sucked out of him and returned to Gastly in a wave of healthy green energy. Uh oh, I don't think Aegeus can take too many of those, she thought, though was decidedly grateful that the Steelix had shed his Rock-typing upon evolving. "Aegeus, you can do it! Smack Down! One more time!" Unfortunately, luck would not be on the redhead's side this time as her poor confused and burned Pokemon flopped helplessly to the ground like a giant, metal Magikarp.
=-=-=-=-=

Even though it was very satisfying to finally see the seemingly-unstoppable Dragonair unable to do anything, Erika remained cool and composed, looking on quietly as she planned on how to best take advantage of her incapacitated opponent. "Sunny Day," she called finally, knowing that it was very risky (especially since she was quite aware of the fact that Faustus could use Flamethrower), but this time, she was sure the benefits outweighed the risks. Vileplume seemed happy with this command and began to dance around on the spot, her large petals shining with a bright, sunshiny glow. It was as though someone had turned on a giant sunlamp somewhere high above the gym as the heat and brightness rose quite dramatically. Erika sighed contentedly in the warmth but kept her guard up. Both she and her Vileplume would have to be on their toes from here on out.

Both Jasper and Croconaw watched the shaking grass with anxious yet cautious gazes, the former already readying one of the Park Balls from the little satchel the contest officials had given out beforehand. The gator's cheeks had puffed out in a large, comical fashion as she readied a Water Gun, but she was forced to swallow it/choke half to death as out of the grass ambled a Paras, of all things. "Oh, no. No way. Noooo," Jasper said, not even giving the little critter a second glance as he casually stepped over it. 'I'm starting to think that maybe we shoulda just caught the stupid Caterpie,' he thought, pulling his bandanna out of his pocket and putting it back in its rightful place atop his cranium.

"Naww," Croconaw grumbled as the pair continued on, looking just as dejected as Jasper felt. She'd been expecting to have some fun bug Pokemon to chomp down on, but so far the whole activity had been a big disappointment.

"Ahh, hang in there, Croconaw," Jasper said, stooping slightly so that he could give the gator a pat. "If this doesn't work out, we can always head down to the Azalea gym and I'll let you chew on Bugsy's, er, bugs. Kay?"

The idea seemed to be enough to raise the water type's spirits as she gave a toothy grin and nodded, but very soon she'd fallen into a fit of giggles as Jasper had turned, taken exactly half a step and then tripped over something en route to planting his face in the grassy ground. The confused Paras (and not at all bashful or timid like the one belonging to Jasper) just stared at the downed human with wide, surprised eyes before reaching out with a claw and poking its leg to make sure the thing was still alive.

Her early night meant that she would have quite the early morning in turn, and like clockwork, Hayley awoke at dawn, feeling refreshed and ready to face the day. She quickly worked through her morning routine, which included a fast shower (and today she even got dressed before gracing the public with her presence) and a decent breakfast for both she and her team. She still hadn't decided what route she was going to take in order to get herself over to Saffron or Celadon and eventually Goldenrod, but she knew she'd have to make a decision sometime within the next half hour or so.

Breakfast was cut short as Ivy and Kaylee had decided that they didn't like how they were looking at one another and had nearly started a brawl right there in the cafeteria. The two troublemakers were recalled before they could start throwing around Thundershocks and Leaf Tornadoes, but that hadn't stopped the other breakfast patrons from giving her some very scathing looks. Feeling very much like a scolded child, Hayley quickly returned the rest of her team to their appropriate Pokeballs before darting outside. It was decision time.

Really, it came down to what would be the more troublesome route - did she want to hike through a dark, dank mountain or traipse through an equally dark and dank tunnel? She knew her home region enough to know that Mt Moon would take longer - both to get to and pass through - while Diglett's Cave was only an hour or so away from Pewter City and a relatively straightforward (and Diglett-filled) route to Vermilion City.

"It's settled, then," Hayley announced to no one in particular, slinging her backpack over her shoulder before she purposefully began to march forward. "Look out, Diglett's Cave, Hayley Bennett is on her way!"

Unsurprisingly, Lottie was sound asleep when Juliet went to check on her, which was both relieving and a bit saddening. The nurse had told her that the Riolu was just fine and only sleeping now, but that did little to ease the lonely and almost empty feeling that was eating at Juliet's insides. Lottie had been by her side every day and every night since she'd been born and this would be the first that they spent apart. Juliet had been kindly directed to the Pokémon Center's dormitory area, which consisted of several rooms with multiple beds within each one. Only one of the rooms was completely vacant so that was the one Juliet chose. "The Pokémon Center is not responsible for lost or stolen personal property," she read off the small sign posted on the wall, as well as a bullet-style list of rules for Trainers to follow. Juliet chuckled as she glanced over them; most of them were just common sense. She changed into her pajamas (which consisted of a pair of fuzzy, Starmie-print sleep pants and a simple tank-top with her hockey team's logo on the front) and brushed both her hair and teeth before climbing into bed, choosing the one nearest to the window.

Several hours later, Charlotte the Riolu awoke with a start in a small, curtained-off section of the Pokémon Center's recovery area. It took a few moments for the Fighting-type to realize where she was, and as she hopped down to the floor, the memory of her battle with Claire's Panpour returned to her and she gave a soft growl, tiny paw clenched into a fist. That loss wasn't one she was going to forget any time soon, but right now, the Riolu had more important things to think about – like where was Juliet? The small Pokémon carefully lifted the bottom of the curtain and peeked out around her. Other curtains like her own filled the area, and in the distance, through a doorway, she could see light. The Riolu ducked back into her own little area and closed her eyes, holding out her palm as she began to focus. In her mind, she was quickly able to see the room around her, only in a black and white and very grainy scale, and after a few more moments of concentration, she was able to see several blurred shapes of colour. Lottie knew these were the auras of the other Pokémon in the recovery room with her, but they were far too undefined for her to be able to tell what they were exactly. She tried to stretch her senses out further, but her head had already started to hurt so she had to stop. Panting slightly, the Riolu opened her eyes and took a few deep breaths. It looked like she was going to have to find Juliet the old-fashioned way.

The Pokemon Center was still relatively empty as Kasiya and Shocker made their triumphant return. The reluctant Electric-type was handed over for treatment and Kasiya checked on her PokeNav. It was sitting at a satisfactory 75%, but deep down she knew she should probably let it finish charging completely. The blonde plopped down in a chair to wait, once again thumbing through her PokeDex in order to pass some time. She'd been studying her own Pokemon's moves and abilities rather closely as of late, especially her newer additions like Ariados, Pepper and Wednesday. She couldn't help but smile like a giant dork as she settled on her own trainer profile and looked at the six small icons that represented her current party. She never thought she'd see Shocker's icon among the others ever again.

It was hard not to jump up and make another party switch, as she wanted very much to keep training with all of her Pokemon (Nova in particular), but not counting Ariel and Shocker, the other four were at the lowest experience levels out of all of her Pokemon. That's gonna change soon, she thought, smiling to herself as she got up to get a bottle of water from the vending machine. She hadn't yet battled with her young Minccino and she was very curious as to see what the little Chinchilla Pokemon could do. A familiar, melodic chime rang out over the Pokemon Center and Kasiya smiled, doing a slow countdown in her mind. Three... two... one... The girl braced for impact, and with perfect timing, too as a tan-coloured blur had jumped on her. "I take it that you're feeling better, then?" Kasiya asked with a giggle. The Raichu replied by flexing her arms, a quick flare of sparks flashing at her cheeks and her trainer smiled. "Good. Gotta have you in tip-top shape, after all. Oh, and by the way, that was probably the strongest Thunder I have ever seen. And after all the time I spent around my dad, that's sayin' something."

The Raichu gave a happy squeal, clearly elated by the praise and she snuggled deeper into her trainer's arms, if it was even at all possible. It wasn't much longer before the boredom got the better of the two and Kasiya decided that her PokeNav was charged enough by the respectable 80% now displayed by the battery symbol. After making sure she had everything, including a happy Raichu perching atop her shoulder, Kasiya headed outside, determined to make it to Violet City soon and hopefully add another gym badge to her growing collection.

Ice Beam? Really? was about all Jaeshan could think as he saw the frosty ray collide with Sigilyph in an explosion of ice crystals. Again, he realized he shouldn't be surprised by Lisa's tactics, but he quickly realized that was the least of his worries as he suddenly realized that Sigilyph had been frozen solid. The frozen Pokemon fell to the ground with a heavy thud and Jaeshan frowned. "Sigilyph? Can you hear me?" he called out, but of course the Avianoid Pokemon couldn't respond. Just great, he thought somewhat bitterly. Nearby, Salamence shuddered at the sight of her frozen teammate - she definitely did not like Ice-type moves!

"Ooh, how lucky for us!" Lisa cheered, which couldn't be a more truthful statement. Out of all of her Pokemon, poor little Shellos was easily the unluckiest, and getting ahead in a battle against a Pokemon that Lisa knew could be a tough opponent would be good for her confidence. "Keep it up, okay, Shellos? Now use Surf!" The tiny, pink slug seemed to make herself stand a little taller as a swell of water began to rise up around her. With a loud cry, the steadily-growing wave crashed forward, engulfing the immobile Sigilyph and taking him for a painful ride.

As the water receded, Sigilyph was still on the ground, much of the ice having been eroded away by the Surf. As hard as the Psychic-type was to read, Jaeshan was fairly certain that he'd had enough and recalled him into his Pokeball. "Okay then," he said, smirking a bit as he tossed out the next sphere, revealing his Magnemite. The Magnet Pokemon immediately turned to its trainer, sparks crackling over its body. "No," Jaeshan said sternly, pointing at Lisa's Shellos. "That's your opponent. Not me." Somewhat disappointed, Magnemite turned to face the pink Water-type, droning quietly. "Thundershock!" Jaeshan was reminded of the strange, shiny-man's hint about taking Magnemite to train over at Mt. Coronet as the Magnet Pokemon loosed a charge of electricity at Shellos.

"Magnemite, huh? Well then." Lisa looked on with a grim expression as her Shellos suffered a super-effective strike from the Thundershock, but shook herself off, making a gurgling sound as she glared at the Electric/Steel-type. "At least now we can use your other moves! Mud Bomb!" The small, pink Pokemon's plushy body began to balloon out as it gathered up the required muck for the attack, and with some force, spat out a large glob of hard-packed mud at the floating Magnemite before reverting back to her normal size.

Miharu's bad feeling seemed to intensify as Professor Juniper decided that right now was a perfectly good time to turn her back on the children, and as she stood there quietly, wringing her hands together nervously, she wasn't surprised to see Taryn erase the few feet of distance that had previously been between them. "Look you," she sneered, her pointer finger now dangerously close to Miharu's nose, "I don't know what kind of sob-story you told the professor to get yourself here, but I'm not going to let you ruin my special day, understand?"

Now, Miharu generally didn't handle confrontation very well, and as Taryn's finger danced only inches from her nose, the urge to reach out and punch the offending girl was very, very strong (she did have Summers blood in her veins, after all). Miharu was actually pondering what kind of damage she'd do to her hand by hitting Taryn when Bradley put himself between the two girls, apparently having found enough spine to play peacemaker, at least for now. "Come on, Taryn. She isn't ruining anything. Besides, you still get to pick first. For weeks now, that's all you've been going on about, so just get on with it already. Pick your Pokemon." The boy folded his arms across his chest and huffed, though he did manage a sort of half-smile in Miharu's direction.

"No, Brad, I will not get on with it," the dark-haired girl practically spat. "Only we were supposed to get Pokemon today. This is so totally unfair."

"Unfair?" Miharu repeated quietly, taking a brave (yet small!) step forward. "A spoiled brat like you wouldn't even know the meaning of that word."

For what seemed like a long time, Taryn stared at Miharu, stunned into silence. It wouldn't last, unfortunately, as she'd scoffed haughtily. "No one asked for your two cents, Shrimp. Why don't you run along now? I bet your kindergarten class is missing you."

The dig at her height was easily the last straw, and Miharu's brow furrowed as she felt both her heart rate and temperature spike. "I am going to strike you now," she said quickly, already in the process of raising her arm until Professor Juniper took hold of it, apparently now realizing that it wasn't a good idea to leave the two girls unattended.

"Okay kids, how about those Pokemon?" she asked brightly, attempting to diffuse the situation. "All three of them are ready and waiting!" She gestured emphatically in their direction, but by this point, Snivy and Tepig had taken several steps back as a result of the tension between Miharu and Taryn. Only Oshawott remained in his original position, apparently more concerned with polishing his scalchop than anything else. Taryn, still very much unhappy with the whole situation huffed and stepped forward, carefully eyeing the trio of Pokemon before her. As bratty as she was, even she knew the importance of picking out your starting Pokemon.

Damien said nothing as he slowly pushed up his glasses, watching the weakened Steelix with what could only be described as disinterest. It wasn't that he was disinterested, or bored, or any of the emotions that could be associated with the expression he currently wore, it was just the way he was. Gastly, on the other hand, appeared to be both excited and somewhat relieved that another one of those nasty attacks wouldn't be headed his way. The gaseous aura surrounding his 'body' seemed to dance with anticipation as Damien called out for him to use Night Shade. The Ghost-type gave a sinister chuckle, his body seemingly growing as another dark aura stretched out to engulf Aegeus.

Ben's ride was a long one, as he spent his time all the way back to Cherrygrove thinking about how he could improve his party. Was it that he needed new Pokemon? He had Pikachu, and Electric-type! That should be more than enough to beat Falkner... So why didn't it work? Sighing with dejection, he rolled into the city after what felt like hours - and may have been, as he had paid little attention to the passing of the sun on the way down. Rolling to a stop outside the Pokemon Center, he leaned his bike against the stand and busied himself with locking it up. He was reluctant to go home, thinking of the disappointment his family would feel knowing that he'd already been met with failure. Maybe he just wasn't cut out to be a Trainer, yet. He was still just a kid! But... Weren't the greatest Trainer Legends just kids when they started, too? Lance, the Champion of the Johto League.. How old was he, when he started training? Ben wondered idly if he had ever failed, or if he was just born great...

Still lost in his thoughts, he was just about to enter the Pokemon Center when he was jostled out of his reverie by nearly colliding with a girl who was making her way out. Quickly standing back with a sheepish smile, Ben rubbed the back of his head. "Sorry.." he muttered quietly, his eyes instantly flicking to the Raichu perched atop her shoulder, his expression brightening. "Wow, you have a Raichu? That's so cool! My Pichu just evolved into a Pikachu a few days ago. And then I used it to try and beat Falkner, but..." his voiced trailed off a bit. That had come out unexpectedly. Now she would think he was a total loser, too. "Well.. You win some, you lose some," he said, trying to cover up his embarrassment with a smile. "Are you going to Violet City? With a Pokemon like that, you'll probably beat Falkner hands down..."

Kilik braced himself as if he were the one being attacked. He didn't need to worry too much about Vine Whip...or did he? The Carnivine was clearly a much higher level than Monferno and even a not very effective attack can deal a large amount of damage when dealt with such a level gap. "Hold..." the boy whispered quietly to himself, clenching his fist. The whips were growing closer every breath. "Hold...!" He grit his teeth. "Now! Grab them!"

The whips crashed against Monferno's arms as he raised them up and twisted. It hurt, a lot more than he had anticipated for a Grass-type move. He winced hard, but gripped tightly to the vines. He heard Kilik call out for him to start tugging to catapult himself. Smirking, knowing exactly what he meant, Monferno gave the vines a hefty pull and launched himself forward towards his opponent.

"Blaze Kick!"

As the ape grew closer and closer, his foot became coated in flames."MonnnnFER!" he swung his foot upwards at an arc, hoping to catch the Carnivine in his lower jaw.

Dante himself completely forgot about the snipping match him and Keegan were having at Normans next move call. "Holy Arceus." Dante muttered under his breath as he watched the beast smash into the Camerupt. The auburn haired teen could only stare with wide dark eyes as the whole gym seemingly shook with the force of the attack and the fall of the large, and presumably heavy fire ground type. Dante wasn't quite sure what he would have done if that had been his Pokemon out on the battlefield but he was pretty sure he wouldn't have reacted as well as Keegan had, unless of course Kenny had been the one on the battlefield. Still he bent down and picked up the baby Pokemon figuring the floor might not be the safest place for them right now. "Up here you little monsters." He muttered putting them both on his lap. The three of them watched in silence as Keegan sent out his Arcanine, Dante didn't remember him ever getting that pokemon, and they all were suitably impressed with the blast of fire sent over.

Norman himself was happy to make up for his earlier losses in this gym battle. Both of them now on their last Pokemon and even though his Pokemon had taken more damage the normal type gym leader was not going to make it easy for the other trainer. Still his Slaking had to recharge and Norman just called out for a Growl while his Pokemon ignored it/recovered from her last massive attack. The gym leader did wince slightly at the sight of flames engulfing the lazy Pokemon but that wince soon turned into a sort of grin when he saw the shape of his Pokemon after the attack. "Looks like you managed to burn my Slaking. Normally I would say your lucky, unfortunately status effects aren't really your friend here." Norman just hoped his Pokemon survived long enough to land this gyms signature move on the Arcanine.

Robin let out a huff as she stared at the TV on the wall of the Pokemon center. She really wasn't all that sure how she, Ace and the Pokemon she had rescued from Amity Square. All she really remembered was waking up here and a note say that Ace was being healed. Sighing again she frowned as her mind tried to slowly remember what had happened. Looking over she watched as Luffy continued his nap on Ampersands chest. Chuckling she decided to just let him nap as she went back to her thoughts.

"Ah, Miss Robin, your pokemon are ready." Came the friendly voice of Nurse Joy.

Startled Robin just gave her a wide eyed look for a moment not quite understanding before finally giving the nurse her own 1000 mega-voltorb smile. "Thank you!" Popping up from her seat she followed the pink haired nurse back to the counter. "Ace!" She called out happily at the sight of the Monferno resting on the counter. The fire starter gave her a grin before hopping off the counter and walked over to his trainers side.;'

"Ah, I am glad you are still here. I call ed you over the intercom and around four times. It is always a shame when someone abandons their Pokemon here." A sad look crossed the nurses face for a moment.

"Oh, sorry about that. I was just thinking. "Ace snorted at that and rolled his eyes, Robin either ignored him or didn't understand the small insult. "Wait people abandon their Pokemon?" Robin was shocked as the words finally registered in her mind.

The pink haired nurse grew sad once more at Robin's question. "Yes, some people do abandon their Pokemon here. Either they give up on being a trainer or they leave them here if they think the Pokemon is to weak. There are lots of reasons really. It's a huge problem really. Thank goodness there are Pokemon ranches around the region we can send the Pokemon to, they usually take care of these kinds of things."

A depressed look appeared on Robin's face. "That's so sad." The redheads shoulder slumped momentarily before perking up again. "I don't know why someone would ever do something like that, but I would never do a thing like that. I don't care if my Pokemon win or lose, or throw a temper tantrum or whatever! They are my friends before anything else, and you don't abandon your friends!"

The nurse looked a little taken back by Robin's passionate speech. "Oh my." The nurse chuckled. "Well I hope you live up to that." The bell rang at the counter and the nurse looked over to see a few trainers waiting for her. "Well, i need to go back to work, lots of sick and injured Pokemon to heal. Have a good day Robin."

"Thank you Nurse Joy!" Robin called out waving her hand excitedly, and embarrassingly to Ace, in the air. "All right Ace. Let's head outside. We need to get training. "She started to head out before freezing. "Ah I need to put on my training clothes!" She laughed before heading off to get changed, she didn't want to get her nice clothes all covered in sweat, then she would have to do laundry, ick! It only took her a moment as she stuffed all her things into a locker but her pokeballs and a bottle of water, that all taken care of she headed out of the doors Ace walking at her side.

Once her attack had ended, Eithne looked back over her shoulder at Keegan, her long, pink tongue hanging out of her mouth and her eyes impossibly wide as she practically begged the redhead for praise, bushy tail wagging feverishly. Keegan was certain that for an instant, he could still see the playful Growlithe looking back at him, and he couldn't help but chuckle. "Yes, Eithne, excellent," he said, prompting the Arcanine's tail to wag even faster, if it was even possible. He wasn't surprised to see the Slaking still standing after taking Eithne's Flamethrower and he looked across the field to Norman as he spoke, now noticing that she had indeed been burned. The Gym Leader's words gave him pause and he frowned. Most people wouldn't look so, well, relieved that their Pokemon had just suffered a burn, but Normal looked happier than he had been in all of the match so far.

"Yeah, well, we'll just see about that," Keegan retorted, having already decided that he really didn't want to find out what Norman meant. "Eithne, no holding back! Use Overheat!" The Arcanine's ditsy grin quickly shifted to a vicious snarl as she once again planted her feet. Her body started to give off tremendous amounts of heat as she focused, and with a roar she unleashed a massive, white-hot fireball that sped toward Norman's Slaking.
