I definitely like this idea. Although, I'm not sure the Mile High Club is a good name (especially, since there are younger people in the guild, as you mentioned before).

I have posted in the new thread Icee made. The only thing I (with Kitty's help) can think of is that we should earn points for writing in the HM. When KT used to run it she payed everyone with gold but, that is obviously a bad idea. We don't have enough gold to do that. I think being able to earn points would be a great incentive to get some new blood into the HM.

Uhm...

QUIDDITCH

I would like to start it up, but keeping it in this guild, as it could be promoted through your house, and could become a good source of role-play around, 'The Harry Potter Guild of Gaia'.

Can anyone give me suggestions on what they'd like the quidditch to be like?

Here is some of my ideas, or thoughts on how i would like the game to be like, to resemble.

For the beater to save someone they must post in all the games forums (properly), and for the keeper to save the goal they must answer so many riddles before some time.

And the seekers had to go through all the forums to find the secret word (the secret word is the snitch [so the word could be Dumbledore]), and then they'd end the game.

is a good idea?

And suggestions please... and help... and permission.

It's a good idea. But, sadly, there is a problem:

activity.

Here is why that could be a problem:
say one team's seeker is on one day and starts looking at pretty much every topic in every forum for the snitch (this person (we could call Seeker A) has a lot of time on his/her hands). Meanwhile, the other team's seeker (we'll call him/her Seeker B) only has a few minutes, maybe an hour at most, before they have to get off for a day or so (an example would be before a trip to see family or something). Seeker A would have a major advantage at finding the snitch than Seeker B because they have more time! So it wouldn't exactly be fair that way...

All in all, a good idea though!

Thanks, thats why is stuck it in here, for help, ideas... etc.

You could start by having a set time to play way ahead of time. That way you can try to make sure that everyone is on at the same time for the same reason. You would have to be specific though, since we are all in different time Zones. And if someone can't be there (play) for whatever reason, the game can be played without them (as long as you have a Seeker [for both teams], someone should win). Also, if you do get it up and running again you should have a 1st string of players and a 2nd string. That way there is a back up.

Sorry, no more idea's at the moment. I'll think about it though. smile

Your ideas are all really awesome because they center around the book game so well...as far as I see it there's no way to get around the time/activity problem.
I suggest surveying prospective seekers/players asking them what times they are almost always on Gaia.
What are your suggestions for the Chasers?
I don't fully understand the Beaters' idea...maybe they should be intertwined with the Chasers?
As for seeker if you do decide to do it that way, limit that within an hour. For instance, have a secret word and the first person to post it (or whatever) between 7-8pm wins an extra 100pts for their team. Games should last the entire day I think so that people would have enough time (and not be too stressed) at playing.

Hey all im back tee hee sorry I've been gone for so long... Anywho I have been thinking about the whole quidditch thing myself and updating the play, there are so many variable involved in it thus making it a bit hard lol. This is what I have come up with so far...

Seekers - Will have to follow links, maybe have them answer questions or follow clues but once you go to a link you will be given a letter and the next question or clue and once the seeker thinks they have found all the letters they can then try and unscramble the mystery word.

Keepers - I was thinking more of a battleship scenario for the keepers like make a grid and they pick 25 outta the 100 squares or so. So there would be 2 grids your's and your opponents. Or maybe 1 big grid and pick one by one till there isn't anymore.

Chasers - The only thing I could think of that resembles anything like a chaser would be of course trivia. I was thinking of maybe incorporating it with the first grid idea with the battleship scenario so like they answer the questions and for each right answer they pick a square on the grid and it would be up to 25 picks total.

Beaters - I was having mega trouble with this one. But I was thinking of maybe have like 6 letters it won't spell anything but they would have to make as many words outta the letters as possible and each letter they get per word gets them a point. So if its a 3 letter word they get 3 points if its a 6 letter word they get 6 points and so forth. Then for every 10 points they get to pick a square on the grid.

Please comment and whatnot. P.S. the match would maybe last a week or earlier depending how active the people are and how fast the game gets done.

Whoa, wait a minute! There should already be a system on this! Lorrieta awarded points to students in the past for writing for the HM, at least in the beginning. This isn't a new idea, and should be part of the HM already. My bad for not remembering this when I editted the last one. I think Lorrieta was awarding 20 points per submission? I dunno, something like that, but I distinctly remember her putting points in the Hour Glasses before...

I don't know about that, I wasn't here. I do know that I went through all of the old offices and found nothing saying that students could earn points for there House, except for KT (who was paying everyone in gold, not Points). She may have been awarding points but, it wasn't written in any of the Office's I was in... And if I remember correctly, this was one of Icee's idea's when I talked to here. I think it's in the article she wrote for the HM this month.

Lorrieta awarded points for the March 2009 issue, upon conversing with me about doing this in lieu of gold. This should've been continued with the info about it stated in the HM office. I'm very annoyed at myself for not catching this sooner.

Lorrieta seems to have a record in her first office of points being awarded to people contributing to the HM (there's 20's next to the names). She must've forgotten about it when the next office was made. This isn't a matter of whether it can be done anymore, it should've been done in the first place. So by all means award points to your student writers. How the points are divvied I'll leave to you editors and other mods to figure out (btw feel free to award points for the April issue too since I never did that). But this kind of info definitely needs to be placed in the current office if you guys plan on continuing it.

The Admin
Rules & Guidelines for Posting in Guilds Charter and Barter

General Forum Guidelines

  • Threads should not be bumped more frequently than once every couple of hours.
If your thread is bumped excessively then it may be moved to the chatterbox forum. Posts which do not discuss anything, answer any questions, or add any information to the first post will be considered bumps.

Honestly if the next few lines seem a bit witchy, I've had a realllly long day....that ended with me failing my Chemistry final and possibly the class....and it's not even noon yet =/

So I knew that I wasn't crazy..since you were answering Lyra's questions and the other members' questions, how could that be frigging spamming????? It was not a BUMP, it was a CONVERSATION! Maybe the mod should have read your posts before PMing you....that was totally unkind. What you were doing could hardly be called "excessive".
Besides we've been having conversations in here for YEARS now and no one ever said anything. It's very evident that this thread does not belong in the Chatterbox.
But we'll (or at least I will) just disregard that PM for now....

Editing my post because I would hate for her to move this thread to the Chatterbox for spamming . I also noticed that she contradicted herself. Your first two posts were guild related and on topic. The other two posts could be considered guild related in a way(it's a friggin HP guild), but it's definitely on topic. Sheesh...that message really ticked me off.

techpriest35

Having a casual conversation in the thread that's off-topic and not guild related is okay as long as the replies are spaced 2 hours apart. Anything on-topic or guild related can disregard the 2 hour rule though.

If I do see the thread being bumped with casual conversation that's spaced less than 2 hours apart again though, I will move it to the Chatterbox, so please be careful!

Partly confused at Juni's post, but I think we've all reached a consensus that points will be added for the Hogwarts Monthly.

However, do NOT add points for the past Monthlies (why? because we never said we would give points, as listed in the newer Office). But I think it would be nice if we'd just compensate gold for the staff of the past few issues.

I think the current Editors should come up with a point system for the articles (reasonably). Personally, twenty points per article is too much in my opinion...but that's just my opinion.
Once they get a plan, they can post it in here for feedback/heads up. We, the mods, can then edit the Entrance Hall (house points section) with that information.
We can also add the house point system to the Current Staff post or something. I'll let Lyra and Tina decide where it should go.

I'm on right now Icee. I'm thinking of a system as I type. I'll talk to ya soon.

(I can't believe this whole thing about the recruiting thread, it's just not making any since. No Mod doesn't seem to know what the other is doing, let alone saying.)

@DDA: I really don't know what to say about Quidditch anymore...
But I'm suddenly reminded that we have a Grad subforum to get together.

@Tina: Ok. Well I knew ahead of time that recruitment threads are not supposed to be in the Harry Potter subforum...that's we why created our thread a long time ago. Then, I really felt like that mod had no idea what she was talking about......
