By this point in the match Riza wasn't sure what she hated more about the Victreebel, the fact that it kept barfing up gross acids and poisons all over everything or the fact that it kept screaming over and over again. 'Gastro Acid?' she thought, quickly consulting her pokedex. 'The user hurls up its stomach acids on the target. The fluid eliminates the effect of the target's ability.' Riza frowned, but she had to give Erika credit. No chance of Shed Skin kicking in meant that Faustus was stuck being badly poisoned. She also noticed a flashing light on the corner of the screen of the pokedex but she ignored it for now, closing the device and slipping it into the pocket of her dark jeans. She'd check it out later, right now she had a Victreebel to take out. As much as she enjoyed roasting the grass-types with fire-type moves, it was time to try something a little different. Her last contest battle with that Cacturne had taught her another weakness and she had no troubles exploiting that one as well. "Faustus, Ice Beam," she called, her voice fittingly cold. The Dragonair cooed softly, and the gems on his neck and tail began to glow with a bright blue as he opened his mouth and fired a sleek, icy ray at the Victreebel. * * * * * Admittedly Katie felt a little bad for questioning Mai, and as the admin explained to her that gyms were tests, she realized she'd already known all of that. As she looked up at her mentor, she couldn't help but wonder if she'd once told to bring back a badge. After all, she was certain that Mai didn't start out as a high ranking admin. She nodded at the mention of the gym leader using Fighting-types, and decided then that she'd move her Roselia back to her team for at least the duration of that gym battle. Nell hadn't battled all that much but she'd made some progress, and she silently hoped her Buneary would be able to participate in a gym match some day. The orange haired girl tried not to look as excited as she felt when Mai said she'd come to the gym battle, but her ruby red eyes lit up with excitement, easily giving her away. "Understood," Katie said, giving a small salute before she turned and darted out of the warehouse, a noticeable skip in her step.
It took Katie a few moments to orient herself but soon she was heading back toward the pokecenter, her mind racing with possible match ups and strategies for the gym battle. She knew that fighting-types were weak against flying-type moves so Noa would be her ace for the battle, but at the same time she knew her own fighting-type, Genki, would love the chance to show off his skills against his own type. Of course there was Kord, who'd shown a significant growth in his power since his evolution and she knew that he'd be rather cross with her if he missed out on the battle. And of course there was always Miles and Seraphim and she knew she could easily rely on them. Her newest addition, Darla, would likely have to stay on the sidelines as well for she was still very young. Anyone who'd bothered to pick up a Pokemon textbook in their lifetime would know that fighting-types were super weak to psychic-types, but the problem with that was that the young Solosis still didn't know any reliable psychic-type moves.

Well, it seemed like this was going to take a turn for the interesting. Norman couldn't help but grin as the attract worked and he caught sight of the horrified look on the others faces. The intrusion of the other trainer coming back into the gym though took some of the advantage of putting his opponent off balance, the yelling though was worth it. Looking at his lazily slumped Slaking who was making her own googoo eyes at the Camerupt Norman hoped that she might listen to him, seeing as she actually got up recently though Norman wasn't betting on it. "Slaking use Yawn." The gym leader called out, he might get lucky if he called out a super lazy attack.
Looking back at her trainer the Slaking gave him a look that read something along the lines of, ******** you I am busy, before going back to giving the fire type longing come hither looks. The large ape pokemon did remember though the attack that it had unleashed on her earlier as she rubbed her large belly. That had hurt now that she thought of it. Still it hadn't been all that bad, the sweet little thing had just been showing off how strong it was.
At the sidelines Dante felt even more sickened by the battle he was now unfortunately witnessing. "Hey screw you Keegan. I am making some sort of attempt to be a supportive friend for once and you show me this s**t?" Finding the strength get get up he flopped down onto the bench again, this time picking up the two pokemon he was babysitting and setting them down on the seat as well. "Keeping an eye on you two this time." He mumbled to them.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"There has been a huge market showing up for pokemon badges, some rich kids are getting lazy and have just been buying their way into the pokemon league. Getting people to train their pokemon and what not. Unfortunately you can't forge badges, after a trainer wins a gym battle the badges get registered to them, some sort of chip or seal or something is in them. Whatever it is my higher ups decided it would just be easier to steal the badges then it would be to make them."
The thief made the appropriate sounds of someone listening on the phone as he thought on his latest request. For some reason the thought of trainers buying their way into the pokemon league tournament was somewhat disheartening to him. Even if he knew better he had grown up hearing about how hard trainers worked to get into the league. Still if they were buying their way in they probably would be knocked out first round. Cash was cash as well, who really cared what they did with the stuff he took. "All right, any badges you want in particular?" The blond watched as his Ninjask settled down onto a tree hanging on the side like some sort of weird scarab, the golden Shedinja just floated there creepy like.
"How about you start in Kanto and we will see how that works out. I trust the usual fee will suffice?"
As he watched the two pokemon he had stolen, well they had been one pokemon back then, a thought came to him. He had never really had a pokemon of his own, raised or caught or something, when he had just been stealing rare pokemon to sell to trainers he never really kept them around all to often. The only reason he kept that shiny nincadia was because he saw it evolve into two golden pokemon before he could sell them and greed got the better of them and they stayed with him. That had been years and years ago though, maybe it was time to expand, or at least have a legitimate pokemon, one that wouldn't still be holding a grudge against him for taking them from their original trainer. "No, since we are desecrating our sacred pokemon institution I want something extra. Regular fee plus a pokemon, legitimate pokemon! Nothing stolen, and make it a good one."
The voice on the other end made a surprised sound at his request then seemed to mull it over. "First trying to take another pokemon for yourself now your requesting a not stolen one? Are you becoming a trainer on us?"
W.T. just snorted and leaned picked at the bark from one of the trees. "Hardly. I think I might need some more help coming up is all. We have a deal or what?" That was a lie but he figured he wouldn't get called on it.
"All right, usual fee and some sort of useful pokemon for you. I will see what I can do. Get on those badges though, you don't get it until we at least see some progress."
"Always good doing business with you, I will be on my way to Kanto by the end of the day." With a grin he hung up and turned to the two pokemon who had heard the whole thing. "Welp, looks like we have some work to do. Let's get going."
The Memory Experiment Kokoro couldn’t help but feel for the suddenly wailing Mawile before her. Sure, she’d hit her a couple times, but that’s what happened in Pokemon battles, right? It wasn’t like she should go crying about it and--oof! Another Astonish attack to the gut. Claire had to smile. This Pokemon was crafty as they came, but she could also see that it was running out of stamina. “Hit it with another Flame Wheel!” Claire ordered as she pulled out her single Ultra Ball. She wanted to make sure this one counted when the time came to capture it.
The Quilava was happy to oblige, curling into a ball as flames engulfed her body one more time. Kokoro grinned as she made contact, easily steamrolling her opponent as she crossed the hallway to come to a stop in front of her trainer. Claire could see that this was definitely the last round of attacks for Mawile. She struggled to get up, but apparently could not find the strength to do more than prop up her torso. Although another trainer might have been unnerved by the absolutely hateful glare Mawile sent her way, the blonde-haired girl was even more determined to capture her. Exhaustion was the only way that Mawile would go down, and that was an admirable trait to find in a new team member.
Claire tossed the Ultra Ball with a practiced grace. In a flash of light, Mawile was sucked inside. One shake... Two shakes... Three shakes... And then the tell-tale ding of a successful capture. It was almost anticlimactic, but Ultra Balls were the top of the line when it came to making general captures. “Good job Kokoro.” Claire said, reaching down to rub her Quilava’s favorite spot behind her left ear. She indulged the Quilava a moment longer, before walking over to pick up her new capture. “Welcome to the team, Namidagoe. I imagine you've been through a lot to give me a look like that, but I hope we can work together.” Meanwhile, the Volcano Pokemon scurried under the desk. She emerged a moment later, gently rolling a rather mysterious Pokemon egg.
'Oh god, I hope that poor Caterpie landed okay. Or that he at least got some frequent-flyer miles outta that...' Jasper glanced down at his companion as they wandered along through the tall grass. He was still thinking about the worm Pokemon that Croconaw had sent off into the sunset, but he could tell by the gator's aloof expression that she'd stopped caring about twenty seconds after it'd happened. The pair stopped as a boy darted across the trail in front of them, a large brown rat Pokemon following after him. "No hurry or anything," Jasper muttered to their retreating backs, prompting a quizzical look from the water type. "Ahh, nothing."
Jasper was fully content to stick to his initial plan of 'catch the first thing we see that's not a Caterpie', though he also added Weedle/Kakuna/Beedrill to the list of exceptions to that rule, for the next trainer he happened to cross paths with was busily fleeing one of the black-and-yellow winged menaces. "Yeah, definitely no Beedrill." Croconaw gave a grumble of agreement and the two continued on. Jasper realized that it had been about twenty minutes since the encounter with the Caterpie. So he hadn't come in here expecting to even participate in this contest, and he wasn't even thinking about winning it, but even the thought of going back without so much as a tiny worm Pokemon was embarrassing. Why had he even bothered to do this in the first place? Oh right; if he hadn't, he would probably be pulling Femur's fist out of his face right about now.
That thought brought Jasper back full-circle to the reason for his escape into the sanctuary of the National Park in the first place. He wasn't surprised that Jonas and his flunkies were still hanging around Goldenrod City and he really wasn't surprised that they were out for his blood - technically he did owe Jo more than a little bit of money and he was also entirely to blame for the whole juvenile-detention-thing. Mostly, he was concerned with Jonas' pointed interest in Ditto; the Terrific Transformer had never wavered in his imitation of the infamous yellow rodent, but could it be possible that Jonas knew of (or at least suspected something) about Ditto's true form? The thought was a bit unsettling and Jasper felt a chill creep up his spine; at the same time Croconaw stopped walking and stared straight ahead into a dense clump of grass - it was shaking slightly! "Oh, it's about time," Jasper mumbled, having been snapped back to the present as he nearly tripped quite elegantly over his Pokemon. "Let's catch whatever it is and get out of here." * * * * * * * * * * Hayley had gone to bed just as the storm picked up in strength; her mind filled with tons of questions and absolutely no answers. She combed over the report her mother had sent to her email, but didn't really learn anything new, other than her brother's most recent address. Mostly, she wanted to know why they had even been separated in the first place - who separates orphaned twins, anyway?!. Okay, well, maybe the real reason, if there was one. Of course she knew that the accident that had killed their parents had also left her with severe injuries while somehow Jasper had escaped without even a scratch. Subconsciously she traced her finger along one of the scars on her right leg and gave a quiet sigh. She'd always felt like she'd gotten the short end of the stick in that deal due to her lingering aches and pains, but after learning that Jasper had never settled into one true home, it was him that she'd started to feel sorry for.
'All of that is going to change soon,' the brunette thought sleepily, curling up under the covers. It wasn't such an easy task considering she was sharing her bed with five other creatures - the softer, fuzzier two having decided they needed to be under the covers with her. She raised her head off the pillow to gaze at her Pokemon: both Tisyphone and Ivy were already sound asleep, curled up at opposite ends of the bed. Cynder was positioned almost beside her, and the Charmeleon didn't even pretend to be asleep as she made eye contact with him. "Don't worry, Cynder," she told the fire type (whom also had become quite good at keeping his tail-flame in check; a skill that Hayley was certain her new friend Kressen wished his own fire type companion would pick up). "We're gonna find him, and we'll make him part of our family and everyone will be happy. I can't wait to meet him. I wonder what he's like? Do you think we'll look alike? What Pokemon does he like best...?" Hayley asked plenty more questions to her silent Charmeleon before her eyelids became heavy and sleep finally silenced her, much to Cynder's relief.
As the purplish, Psychic-type Eeveelution was released from its Pokeball, Kasiya and Shocker's thoughts on the Espeon's appearance were actually quite different. While all Kasiya could think about was how awesome it would be to raise one (as well as adding to her slowly-growing collection of evolved Eevee) and the fact that she still didn't have a Psychic-type Pokemon, all Shocker could see was the same, pinkish and annoying Psychic-type that had prevented her from escaping from the clutches of Team Rocket with her annoying Psychic attack. Logically, the Raichu knew that this was not the same Espeon, but that didn't seem to quell her anger toward the species and without waiting for a command from Kasiya, she let out an indignant cry and let rip a powerful Thunderbolt.
"My, my, such impudence," the gentleman called Albert said, waggling an almost scolding finger in Kasiya's direction. The Espeon's tail twitched ever so slightly and it raised its head, both ears flattening slightly just before a familiar green barrier surrounded the Sun Pokemon. The electricity crashed into the shield with a thunderous boom, but the Protect held up, fading out of sight to reveal the completely-unharmed Psychic-type. It was wearing a somewhat smug smirk but by no means was it underestimating that Raichu - it could easily sense the power practically radiating from her body.
"Shocker!" Kasiya cried out, but of course it was too late and all she could do was watch as her Raichu's attack was rendered useless. Her teeth still grit, Shocker gave her trainer a quick, apologetic little shrug before turning back to face the Espeon. Just the sight of its smug little face was enough to get the mouse's blood boiling, but her mind gave an instant-replay of her last Thunderbolt so she reeled it in a bit. This was her first real battle with Kasiya since their reunion, and neither Pokemon nor trainer had any plans to lose it.
=-=-=-=-= The cheerful, happy sparkle had completely disappeared from Jaeshan's eyes as he laid down his accusation; having been replaced by an icy, intimidating stare. Salamence had jumped to her feet with the sudden shift in her master's attitude and she glanced back and forth between the blond and Lisa, not entirely sure of what was going on.
Lisa, meanwhile, had nearly crumbled from the cold glare she was now receiving, as she'd not been expecting for the situation to change so drastically. "Steal them? No, of course not!" she said once she'd regained her composure; the blue-haired girl's hands curled into fists and she defiantly glared right back at Jaeshan. For a few moments, the two teens just stood there, glaring at each other, at least until Salamence decided that she'd had enough of their childish behavior and put herself between them. "I know it looks bad, but I didn't steal them. I had flown home to Kanto to visit my parents around the time of your disappearance. I'm not really sure why I did it, other than just a feeling that maybe I had to, but I got in contact with your mother. I guess it was mostly because I wanted to tell her all about the times we battled and hung out together and stuff. Anyway, I ended up flying over to Littleroot to meet your parents and I guess you can say we sorta bonded or something because of it. Shortly after that I went over to Lilycove to do some shopping before I headed back here to Sinnoh to keep working on my league badges, y'know? And I was sitting down in one of the lobbies having a lemonade, just sorta watching the TV outta habit when this news broadcast from Sinnoh came on. I don't even know what the report was about but they were broadcasting live from Jubilife City and the next thing I know, I saw you and a black-haired girl walking by in the background. I guess that was Jade? Anywho... I talked to your mom again and she asked me to go and find you and figure out why you were in Jubilife and whatever. She also gave me your Salamence so that you could use her to fly back home. And then, thanks to my rather awesome sleuthing skills, I was able to track you down here in Eterna, and here we are. So see? Everything's on the level. I'm not a liar and I'm not a thief and you can stop looking at me like I'm a criminal now, okay?"
=-=-=-=-= If there was ever a time that Karrigan wanted to know what Damien's Gastly was saying, it was now. The redhead watched with a bit of a bemused expression as the Ghost-type was engulfed by Aegeus' Dragonbreath. She did know that the attack had hurt, as the ghost had given a shriek of pain, but as expected, the Steelix's special attack wasn't exactly remarkable. She also didn't miss the absolutely deadly glare that Gastly sent Damien's way and she couldn't help but smirk at the pair's relationship. The Will-o-Wisp that had been called for would be trouble, as the ring of flames was moving quickly and Aegeus made for an awfully big target. "Rock Tomb," the redhead called, almost desperately. The Steelix gave a roar and slammed his tail on the ground, sending a row of sharp, stone spikes shooting out of the ground in front of him. A few of the wisps were blocked, but not enough to reduce their effectiveness and Aegeus gave a low groan as the blue flames burned into his metallic body, leaving painful burns in their wake. Karrigan frowned, but said nothing. The burn status would be a problem, but even with his attack cut down, she hoped the Steelix could still pack a punch.
=-=-=-=-= As much as Erika did not like fire, she also wasn't the biggest fan of the cold and her opponents (or at least the ones that had done their research) often used Fire and Ice-types against her. A noticeable chill filled the air as the Dragonair fired off a quick Ice Beam, and Erika knew that her Victreebel wouldn't be able to stay in the battle much longer. The Ice Beam rocketed across the battlefield and smashed into the Flycatcher Pokemon with a shattering sound, sending shards of ice raining down all around him. Patches of the Grass/Poison-type's body were now frosted over and Erika considered themselves to be rather lucky that Victreebel hadn't been frozen solid. "Hang in there, my love, and use Sludge Bomb!" she called, motioning toward the offending Dragonair with a dainty hand. Victreebel's round belly seemed to balloon out a bit as it gathered up a good amount of toxic sludge that was then shot forth in a dense, compact ball that would explode on impact.
As the twins exchanged glances once more, Juliet prepared herself for the worst. They were going to call her parents, and then they'd come and get her and her journey would be over before it even started. Juliet could feel frustrated tears starting to prickle at the corners of her eyes but she fought them back. Yes, she'd been reluctant to leave home in the first place, but now that she was out on her own with Lottie, traveling around and meeting new people like Jack and Brett, she really didn't want to have to give that up. She'd been staring at the floor as her thoughts raced through her mind, so it was only natural that she would look up, quite surprised, as the boys had started laughing.
"Now that's our Jules," Corey said, nodding quickly. "Always telling us like it is."
"Of course we can respect that, Little Sis," Cody added. "We know exactly how you feel. We've been there before!"
"You and Lottie just have to get stronger, is all," Corey continued. "We know you'll be just fine. Oh, and make sure you catch yourself some new Pokémon, too. The more Pokémon you have, the easier it is to win battles!" "Yep, ain't that the truth!" Cody laughed.
If Juliet had been the type to cry, now would have been a perfect opportunity. Instead, she laughed along with her brothers, suddenly quite grateful to have the two of them on her side and she was thankful that it had been them that had gone with her on the first leg of her journey and not Geoffrey or Brendan a she was sure they wouldn't have been as understanding. The twins had then decided that Juliet would be all right by herself, but they did make her promise to check in now and then to reassure everyone that she was still alive. They even promised to tell their mother that they'd escorted her safely all the way to Striaton and they wouldn't breathe a word of Lottie's loss to Claire's Panpour to her, either. It wasn't long after that when they'd take their leave, and Juliet would finally be able to visit her little Riolu in the infirmary.
"Hey, don't blame me for that s**t; I'm not the one who told Slaking to use Attract! And yeah, well... A supportive friend would actually be... supportive!" was all the redhead could think to shout back to Dante as Norman tried to get his extremely lazy Pokemon to attack again, but to no avail. At least Keegan could be thankful for one thing, and that was Slaking's Truant ability. He'd once taken care of a baby Slakoth back at home, and trying to do anything with a Pokemon like that was virtually impossible. His still-infatuated and badly-poisoned Camerupt continued to stomp around the gym in some sort of attempt to show off to the female Slaking, but Keegan wasn't sure he was being all that effective.
"C'mon, Boris," the redhead sighed, wondering if he should attempt to pray for luck to whatever Poke-Gods may be listening. "Rock Slide! Let's go!" The Camerupt bellowed loudly before rearing back on his hind legs. He snorted out a large plume of smoke before slamming his forelegs down, causing the space around the ceiling above Slaking to warp and ripple. Large rocks began to rain down from those ripples, and Keegan closed his eyes and sighed. Finally, something was going right. ===== "Whoa, what?" Taryn stepped forward, looking as though she'd just been insulted personally by Professor Juniper. "Why does she get to pick a Pokemon, too? Isn't she just like, your assistant or something?"
"Sort of," Juniper answered, unfazed by Taryn's indignation. "Miharu has been very helpful to me this morning. She's also been through some pretty rough times, and I want to show my appreciation by letting her pick out a partner Pokemon, as well."
"But that's not fair to me!" Taryn whined, glancing at Bradley - rather than being angry, he just looked confused by everything. "I mean, us! We were supposed to get Pokemon first!"
Juniper sighed, but nodded regardless. "Of course. The two of you may choose first. I'm sure that won't be a problem for you, will it, Miharu?"
"N-no, Professor," Miharu said quickly. She hadn't moved so much as an inch since being told she could pick a Pokemon, and her gaze kept drifting back to the Snivy. Something in the back of her mind kept telling her not to get excited, and was constantly reminding her of the Pokemon that had been taken for her. The thought of them nearly made the girl choke - she couldn't go around catching new Pokemon, what would the others think when she got them back? They'd think she replaced them, or worse, had forgotten about them. "It's a-alright. I-I don't w-want a Pokemon, anyway." ===== Once could certainly not say that Karrigan's Steelix was a pushover - the ground shook violently as the massive Pokemon brought his tail down upon it, forcing up sharp spikes of stone in the meantime. Although Damien did not tell Gastly to dodge, the Ghost-type did anyway, drifting up and around to avoid being impaled by one of those rock spikes. Both he and his trainer smiled ever so slightly as the Will-o-Wisp took effect, as it would reduce the Steelix's strength as well as score a little bit of passive damage every turn. "Good. Now Gastly, use Confuse Ray," Damien said, giving a slight wave of his hand.
"Sounds good to me," Gastly answered, his previous annoyance with Damien seemingly forgotten. The Pokemon's wide eyes began to glow, and soon a bright yellow ball of light appeared, its movements erratic and dizzying as it encircled the Steelix. A burned and confused Pokemon would be much easier to deal with.
As Ben was pondering his next move outside of the Violet City Gym, he was struck with the sudden realization that he really had no clue what he was doing. Sure, experience would help, but... He didn't want his Pokemon to have to get hurt because of his ignorance. So, he decided. He would have to go back home and see if his Grandpa had any life saving advice. Picking up, he headed back to the Pokemon Center where his bike was chained up and released it from its bonds, sighing with a bit of disappointment as he walked it out of town. He didn't want to have to go home again so soon... What would his folks think? Would they be disappointed too? His mind weighed down with a great many thoughts, he reached the edge of town and mounted his bike, pedaling dejectedly back down the route toward Cherrygrove.
'I am so done with that Pokemon,' Riza thought, making an unimpressed face as Erika's Victreebel vomited up even more sludge at her Pokemon. Faustus, who was still steadily growing weaker as the poison sapped his health, tried to evade but the grass-type's aim was very good and the Sludge Bomb hit him head on, detonating as it did so and sending bits of sludge flying everywhere. "Okay Faustus, you've got this," Riza said, nodding slowly. "Let's finish off that awful thing with a Flamethrower!" The Dragonair couldn't argue that command and he moved forward, this time the orbs on his body glowing a reddish colour as he exhaled a jet of fire at the Victreebel. * * * * * When Katie reached the pokecenter the first thing she did was turn over Kord and Miles to the nurse so they could get healed after their battle with Mai's goons. She got herself a bottle of water from the vending machine and said a quick goodbye to Nell before sending her back home, though she had to wait a little bit for Seraphim to be sent back in return. 'maybe I should be leaving my Pokemon with one of the professors, like everyone else seems to do,' the orange haired girl thought before he Roselia's poke ball finally appeared in the slot, and after a bit of rearranging the spheres on her belt, she went back to the front desk to reclaim her fully healed Electabuzz and Floatzel.
Katie finished her water and put the bottle in the recycling bin before she headed outside again, already beginning to feel that rush of excitement that she always got before jumping into a gym battle. 'Okay Maylene, time to see what you've got,' the orange haired girl thought as she headed for the gym, which had been clearly marked with signs on posts as it was a major place to visit in Veilstone City. 'And after this, I'll go and buy that Electirizer for Kord and maybe even a Shiny Stone for Seraph.......'
Not supportive? Dante might be a bit of an a*****e sometimes, read all the time, but he was pretty sure he always supported whatever stupid s**t other people were doing. Support was like not caring and doing it along with them for the laughs right? He was pretty sure that was what that word meant. "How am I not supportive? I came along to the gym battle, I said I would do whatever you wanted for the rest of the day if you won. I am baby sitting over here, heck I rescued you- I mean I am totally good at this! You want me to put on the cheerleading outfit and do cheers? I can totally do that right here and right now." He would to, just to prove to Keegan that his pride went long before his urge to humiliate the redhead. Keegan was the one who wasn't supportive here, Dante just huffed and crossed his arms over his chest not caring if he was pouting.
Norman himself was eyeing the two yelling at each other through the gym match. Well whatever was wrong with them he was sure it would all work out, while they were both repairing his gym. Attention back on the battle the normal type gym leader frowned as the rocks hit his fat powerhouse of a pokemon. The rocks causing her to grunt and easily push the rubble off of her. At least she looked angry now, that meant he had better luck getting an attack off. "Slaking let's finish this pokemon, use your Giga Impact!" Norman called out. If this went off it was always impressive to see such a sheer force of raw power.
On the floor the Slaking was feeling somewhat wounded, emotionally and physically. This beautiful brute of a pokemon had been trampling around showing her just how tough and energetic he was when his stupid no good trainer had called for him to attack her! How could he? It was just awful. It wouldn't have been so bad if he handsome fire type chose her instead of him but he hadn't! The normal type was feeling just as beat up on the inside as she was feeling on the outside now. Well she would show him. The Slaking whole heartily agreed with her trainers command. What was she thinking earlier? She was a strong independent pokemon who didn't need no man in her life, and what she did with the men she didn't need was blow them away. Getting up from the ground the lazy pokemon didn't look to lazy at the moment as she drew to her full height, an almost seven foot tall mass of muscle and fat. The Slaking started to glow as she ran towards the Camerupt fully intent of sending that no good pokemon flying into next week.
"The clouds look interesting today." Mike said to no one immediately visible. "Fluffy. Big. Fat, even. Not threatening but...soft." He narrowed his eyes. "And they better stay that way. Get it?"
Got it.
Mike snapped his fingers to no particular beat, causing a light shower of sparks with each pop. There had always been a saying that those who danced were considered insane by those who couldn't hear the music, but Mike always felt it was more that people refused to unplug their ears. All around him was a choir that seldom sang above a whisper. With Portabello gone, there was no one around to listen with him. He pushed the door open.
It was dark inside the gym. Dark enough for our semi-luminescent hero to stick out like a sore thumb. Speaking of thumbs, all that contact had chaffed his. No more music for now. The concert stopped, the voices hushed, but didn't quell.
"Those are some funky tattoos you got, mister." a little voice spoke out.
That's a new one.
"You like 'em?" Mike replied, smiling. The green-clad boy that stepped forward was easily dwarfed by the giant rocks that poked up from the ground. He walked with a shy confidence, noticeably intimidated, but eager to show whoever was watching that he was big brave boy wearing his big brave pants.
"Yeah. I didn't know they made ones that glow." he leaned forward on his toes to get a closer look.
"You wouldn't believe what I had to get through to get 'em." Mike chuckled. "Cost me an arm and a leg." The little boy smiled at what he thought was a stupid joke. Mike stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked around. "You my first opponent?"
"That's right. My name's Liam and you gotta get through me to get to Brock!" He pointed a little thumb to his little chest. It was cute. Mike found the kid's spunk endearing. Liam pulled out a pokeball. "You ready?"
"Absolutely."
"My dear, I certainly hope that your Raichu has a little more restraint for the rest of our battle," the gentleman said, still shaking his head. "A disobedient Pokemon is a sign of an unskilled trainer, after all." At his feet, Albert's Espeon appeared to agree with his trainer, nodding quickly. "This should be rather easy, then. Espeon, Psybeam."
The comments, while more observational than condescending, were still enough to make Kasiya's blood boil. Yet again, some trainer was underestimating her, and her Pokemon. The irritated way in which Shocker's ears twitched showed that she felt the same way her trainer did. The Raichu had always been one of Kasiya's most reliable Pokemon, and after the call for a Psybeam, they both grinned for the smallest fraction of a second. "Shocker, Agility," Kasiya said. The mouse, nearly having read her trainer's mind, quickly sprang into action; her body seemed to shimmer as her muscles loosened up. She effortlessly avoided the beam of psychic energy shot off by the Espeon, and both she and Kasiya smiled when they saw the look of surprise on the gentleman's face. "I think I agree with him, Shocker," the blonde said a bit smugly. "This will be easy!"
The older man scoffed. "Young lady, you haven't seen anything just yet. Espeon, use Psych Up." The Psychic-type Eeveelution's forehead gem began to shine and it finally got up on all fours, giving a sharp cry as it used its psychic powers to copy Shocker's speed boost. It seemed the Espeon was a bit annoyed that the Raichu had avoided its Psybeam so easily.
Kasiya said nothing in reply to that; she only looked to her partner as she continued to smile. "Discharge!" she called, perhaps a bit too eagerly. Mirroring her trainer's grin, the Raichu slammed the end of her tail into the ground as she'd suddenly lit up like a Christmas tree, electricity exploding out from her in every direction.
=-=-=-=-= Somewhere in the back of his mind, Jaeshan already knew there was a perfectly logical explanation for why Lisa had possession of his Pokemon, but since his mind was a relatively confusing place as of late, he was unable to find that logic and instead had fallen back on anger and suspicion. As the blue-haired girl spoke, however, that anger began to dissipate and Jaeshan felt the heat leave his skin. It was almost as though he could see Lisa's story playing out in front of him, and he gave a bit of a dopey smile as she mentioned seeing him on TV with Jade. He couldn't remember being filmed at all, but then again Jubilife had been quite busy and crowded so it was likely that they hadn't even noticed the TV crew. When she stopped speaking, he almost didn't know what to say. In fact, he didn't say anything for a long time, not until Salamence flopped down noisily beside him. "Lisa..." he started, hardly able to look her in the eye. "...I'm sorry. I don't know what else to say, but I'm sorry. I truly am."
It had been tough to gauge Jaeshan's reaction to her story, but she could tell that it had easily been more than enough to get him to stand down. "Heh, don't worry about, it, 'kay? I can totally see how that would look bad for me. Now worries, all right?" The blue-haired girl smiled and dropped down beside Salamence, rubbing her scaly head. "Hey, I know! Let's have a battle! Just like old times! You can show me more of the Pokemon you've raised since you've been here in Sinnoh! Ooh, and I can show you mine!"
=-=-=-=-= It's just one status attack after the other, Karrigan thought, a frown creasing her lips. She called out for Aegeus to try and avoid it, but the Steelix was already having difficulty moving thanks to his painful burn. "Hang in there, Aegeus!" the redhead called, no worry in her voice even as the Steelix became confused. The Iron Snake Pokemon thrashed about, shaking the ground with his tremendous weight until finally he stopped, staring directly at Gastly. The Steelix's powerful maw gaped open and a ball of ruddy brown energy began to form, and with a roar, it was sent hurtling toward the Ghost-type. I think that was Smack Down, Karrigan thought, tilting her head a bit. She recalled that Gastly wasn't exactly bursting with defensive prowess, so even with Aegeus' reduced attack power, there was still a chance that he could come out of this on top.
=-=-=-=-= Again, there wasn't much that could be done to guard against the Dragonair's strong attack, and Erika watched calmly as her poor Victreebel was bathed in flames, shrieking loudly the whole time. The Flycatcher Pokemon slumped to the ground as the attack ended, unable to battle and Erika didn't hesitate to recall him, smiling gently at the sphere as she tucked it into her obi. "Your Dragonair is really quite strong," she commented as she withdrew her third and final Pokeball. "But I wouldn't count us out just yet. Vileplume, darling, it's your turn!" With practiced grace, the Gym Leader tossed out the sphere, revealing the Flower Pokemon in a flash of light. "Let's mix things up a little, shall we? Vileplume, use Attract!" Vileplume did a twirl on the spot, her large petals quivering with her every movement. The Flower Pokemon then winked and blew a kiss at Faustus, sparkling pink hearts spiraling out from all around her.
A Geodude. No surprise there. Liam stood proud, admiring his Pokemon. Mike tossed his head from side to side, feeling his hair tap against the side of his face before tossing out a Pokeball of his own and stuffing his hand back in his pocket.
"What's that?" the boy asked, scrunching his nose at the twitchy lizard that was released before him.
"A Kecleon." "Never seen one of those before." "They're kinda hard to find. They like to spend most of their time hidden." Mike tilted his head towards the arena. "For example." Liam glanced down and saw that the Pokemon had all but disappeared. Both he and his Geodude looked around in confusion. Out of nowhere a long pink tongue flicked where a Geodude's nose would be if it had one. Mike chuckled as Liam jumped back in surprise.
Are we having fun? a female shadow inquired rather sharply. "Yeah, actually." "Huh?" Liam asked. "I was just...nevermind." Mike waved his hand. "Shall we?" Powalski reappeared before his trainer, his head shifting every which way as he continued his endless surveillance. "Yeah!" Liam balled his fists. "Geodude, Rock Throw!"
How mean are we planning on being? "No more than is necessary to win." Mike replied as he watched the rocks fly towards his Pokemon. "He's a good kid. Take the hit and Astonish!"
While Powalski was no doubt much more experienced than his opponent, a rock to the face was still a rock to the face. Regardless, he was well aware what his trainer's strategy was, and complied with the order, much to Liam's confusion, which only intensified as the Pokemon's skin began to crust over as it dashed towards the Geodude. "What's happening to it?" he asked as the Kecleon slapped his Geodude across the face with his tongue.
"Kecleon have this unique ability that changes their type to whatever hit them last." Mike rocked back and forth on his heels. "Now my buddy is a rock type." "No way! That's super cool!" "It can be. It can be just as much of a weakness, though." "So if I Geodude tackled him right now, he would change back?" "That he would."
This battle was becoming less of a fight and more of a lesson. one shade remarked as it sat on a nearby rock. "Nothing wrong with that."
"Tackle it, Geodude!" Liam shouted, his smile widening as he saw Powalski's craggy layer of skin shed after the attack. Mike couldn't help but share his enthusiasm. "Psybeam." Still relatively close to his foe, the Kecleon snapped his attention to his opponent, his head at an awkward angle. In a blast of vibrant light the Geodude was on the ground, his eyes rolling every which way. "What? Already?" Liam said, somewhat deflated. "Must have been a critical hit." Mike shrugged.
"Hm." Liam pursed his lips in thought as he stared at Powalski for a moment before continuing. "Let's go Sandshrew!"
Oh look! A mini Digger!
It had taken a bit, but Kressen lead the two other trainers to the edge of the forest. Pewter City could be seen just down the road awaiting them all, but Kressen felt that he and his team needed some more training before entering the city. Brock wasn't going to be an easy opponent so some more training could only improve their chances of winning.
Of course finding trainers in the woods to battle was hard at times. The woods were thick and there were many paths one could take. One such path he knew led to a pond where pokemon and trainers often gathered to get water. Perhaps there he would catch sight of another trainer. Or maybe a rare pokemon.
