"You don't know what you were doing?" Rowan repeated as he looked at the other boy an annoyed look flashed across his face for a second. Sighing the older man figured that the kid must be concussed if he didn't remember. Maybe he had been surprised and fell in though. Who knew, the kid sure didn't and Rowan didn't have a clue. "All right then do you know your name?" If he knew that he could call the kids family to come pick him up, any pokenavi the kid would have carried would have been ruined from his little dip.
~~~~~~
Running over to the machine Robin quickly logged on getting a little impatient when it took a little time to load. Looking at her box Robin let out a loud sigh of relief as she stared at the one pokeball in there. "Oh thank you Mom!" Robin exhaled as she withdrew her pokemon and waited for Black*Stars pokeball to appear. When it did she logged off and grabbing the ball she sprinted back towards the park. Skidding to a stop next to Tony she held out Black*Stars pokeball and gave him a happy grin.
"Your a minute late Robin." Tony said with a frown, ok so maybe ten minutes wasn't that long of a time for her to get from the pokemon center or even get a pokemon out of the notoriously slow storage system. Still she was supposed to make the impossible possible and it wasn't to hard for her to do that. "Give me the pokeball and do five laps around the park." That seemed like fair punishment, not to harsh but it still got the point across.
"Awww!" Robin groaned but other than that she didn't complain. Handing over Black*Stars pokeball the redhead took off running her laps as her punishment.
Looking over at Ampersand who was watching the interaction with an amused look on his face, Tony gave him a small glare. "I told you what to do Ampersand what are you standing around for."
"Yes sir." Ampersand rolled his eyes before motioning to Luffy to follow him. "Come on monkey boy. We have some work to do." It was still weird to have a pokemon that was able to stay awake around him, still Luffy might make things a little easier for him, or a lot harder. Either way he was going to make a fun obstacle course, well fun for him to watch Robin try to go through it.
He unwittingly flinched at the mustached man's harsh words, and he nodded slowly, his eyes still fixed on the paper cup that was half-full of water. Or, maybe it was half-empty; at this point he wasn't sure which was correct. He grimaced and had another drink, gazing across the table at the man, trying to read his expression. He set his cup down as he was asked another question, and he opened his mouth to answer, only to snap it shut a moment later. "My name...?" he repeated, his mind suddenly blank. He blinked a few times and tried to relax, as he'd been suddenly overcome by a wave of panic. I can't remember my own name, he thought, suddenly feeling very embarrassed. He shook his head. "I... I don't know," he admitted finally, turning his gaze away from the professor and already wincing at the pending reaction.
"Oh non, mon pauvre cher Drifloon!" Fantina squeaked, her eyes wide and reflecting the electricity that was currently being dished out by the Kirlia. She smiled and shook her head, placing a slender hand on her hip. "I believe it is time to finish z'is," she said, glancing from Riza, to Yula, then to her Drifloon. "Terminer avec votre Balle -Ombre!" she called.
Drifloon let out a loud cry as the electricity gave him quite a zap, but he'd been able to detect where the real jolt had been coming from. He allowed his body to float downward, spinning gently as the remaining static crackled from his body. "Flooooon!" he cried, a dark orb forming at the little 'x' on his face, and with a tremendous force, he flung it directly into the stomach of poor Yula, who could do nothing to block the super effective attack.
There was nothing Yula or Riza could have done to block the point-blank Shadow Ball (as even though it was in French, a Shadow Ball was easy to recognize), and the Kirlia let out a small whimper as she fell to the ground, severely weakened. Riza's arms fell limply to her sides and she quickly ran to the fallen Pokemon, her long legs carrying her there in only a few strides. She cradled the fainted psychic-type in her arms, keeping her head down so that no one, not Ryka or Fantina, could see the the tears brimming in the corners of her eyes. "You were great, Yula," she said, gently hugging her Kirlia. "Fantina's been doing this much longer than we have..." she added, before recalling her into her poke ball. She stood up and turned to face Fantina, who was busy thanking her Drifloon for a job well done. "Well, that's it, then," Riza said, her voice quivering slightly. 'Maybe we're not ready yet,' she thought, her heart sinking lower and lower in her chest. 'We need more training, especially if we can't even keep up with Fantina...' * * * * * ...and Katie's eyes went wide when she discovered that the small, empty room had lead into what appeared to be a forest. There were trees and greenery everywhere, and flowers lining the path in front of her. If Katie didn't know any better she might have thought she'd wandered back into the Eterna Forest. "Amazing," she whispered, taking a few steps forward, only to have her path blocked by a pair of twin girls, who couldn't be more than eleven years old. They both wore matching girl scout uniforms, their long, blonde hair pulled back into identical pigtails ending in cute little bows. The only discernible difference was that one girl's bows were pink, and the others were purple.
"If you want to see our leader-"
"-then you have to battle us!"
Katie smiled at the twins, though she was a little creeped out at them finishing each other's sentences. "Okay, that sounds just fine with me," she nodded, taking two spheres from her belt as both girls had one in their hand already. It seemed this would be a double battle.
Star narrowed her eyes at Miharu, and tilted her head slightly, trying to figure this new Trainer out. She stepped back, and stood at Sam's side. Sam hadn't heard what Miharu had said to Star. She took out Star's Pokeball and recalled her, thinking to herself, 'Well that was relatively painless,' as she pocketed the Pokeball. Sam tightened the straps on her pack, making sure everything was secure. She was a little nervous to be flying again, heights were not exactly her thing and last time had ended up disastrously. But this was supposed to be a short flight, so she could put up with it. It would be much faster then walking for sure. She took a deep breath, facing the Pidgeot, who suddenly looked a lot more intimidating. Her eyes widened a tiny bit.
"Y-yeah I'm ready," she squeaked out. She cleared her throat. "Sorry, I'm just...Never mind, not important." She waved her hand uselessly, then walked close to the Pidgeot. "H-how...?" she asked Miharu, gesturing towards the Pideot's back. She was too distracted to form a complete question.
Aska was much quicker to pick up on Sam's unease than Miharu, and the bird cocked her head to the side, not entirely sure how she felt about carrying a nervous human on her back. It wasn't like she had any intentions of dropping her or anything, but since she was still (relatively) new at this, she couldn't help but worry. The Pidgeot clicked her beak and crouched down, spreading out her wings so that the two girls had ample room to climb aboard. "Oh," Miharu said, now catching on, and she offered a reassuring smile. "I'm not sure if it helps any, but I trust Aska with my life." She reached out and stroked the Pidgeot's feathers once more, and Aska pretended not to preen at the comment, although she knew she would do her damnedest to keep her tiny trainer safe.
Miharu climbed up onto the bird's back, adjusting her own backpack before holding out her hand to help Sam. She wasn't sure where Sam would feel safer sitting, in front or behind, so she allowed her to choose. Once both girls were seated comfortably, Miharu gave the word and Aska lifted off the ground with a few flaps of her powerful wings, and they were off towards Azalea Town and their next adventure.
Sam realxed a tiny bit when Miharu said that she trusted Aska with her life. She trusted other people's judgements. She attempted to smile, then took Miharu's hand and climbed on the Pidgeot's back. She settled in comfortably in front of Miharu, feeling that this way she couldn't slide off the back of the Pidgeot. As the ground fell away, Sam gripped some of Aska's feathers tightly, too frightened to care if she was hurting the bird. She attempted to relax.
"Miharu, do me a favor. Quiz me on anything. Engage me in conversation. I need to be distracted," she said rapidly, hoping Miharu could hear her above the whistling wind.
Still certain that Sam was uneasy, Miharu had convinced Aska not to fly at her fastest speed, though they were still covering a lot of ground over a short period of time. The fastest way to get from point A to point B is a straight line, the green-haired girl thought, doing her best to hold on tightly. Admittedly this flight probably wouldn't have worked out too well if the two of them were any bigger, and Miharu wondered how much more tiring it was for Aska to be carrying two people instead of one.
"Hmm?" she murmured, hearing Sam's somewhat-windswept voice, and she leaned in a little closer. "Oh, okay," she said, thinking quickly. "Um, so, Bugsy's gym. But type Pokemon. What kind of strategies do you have in mind? That Scyther of his is incredibly fast and agile." In truth she was also quite curious as to how Sam planned to battle against the young gym leader, as Miharu had learned not to underestimate him because of his age.
The girl with the pink bows introduced herself. "I'm Mimi," she said, then pointed to her sister. "She's Kiki. What's your name?" The twins had released their two Pokemon, Mimi a Nuzleaf and Kiki a Lombre. Katie had never seen either of them before but she easily guessed that they were grass-types and took out her Pokedex to scan them.
"My name is Katie," she said, not really watching the twins so much as she was reading her Pokedex. 'Nuzleaf is a dark and grass-type, and Lombre's second type is water,' she mused, deciding to keep Genki and Noa in reserve for the gym leader, and possibly Seraph as well. She took Kord and Miles' poke balls from her belt and sent out her Pokemon, not at all surprised to see the Elekid bounding from foot to foot with excitement, sparks raining from his prongs. Miles was a lot more relaxed, though he didn't appear to like being so close to the excited electric-type.
"Let's win this one for Gardenia, Kiki!" Mimi shouted, looking to her Nuzleaf. "Start with a Fake Out!" she called, pointing at the Elekid.
"You too, Lombre! Fake Out!" Kiki was pointing at Miles. The two grass-types looked at each other, nodded, and both dashed forward, criss-crossing so that they headed towards their proper targets.
"Ugh, Fake Out," Katie muttered. "Try to dodge!" she called to both of her Pokemon, though as speedy as they both were, they both fell prey to the sneaky movements of their opponents, and were both sucker-punched to the point of flinching. Neither the Elekid nor Buizel were really hurt by the attacks, but it seemed to have ignited their fighting spirits.
Sam breathed in deeply, trying to concentrate on her upcoming battle. Her hands formed fists, and she squeezed them tightly to force her muscles to relax.
"Bugsy's Gym. Right. Bug-type pokemon, which are weak to Flying, Rock, Fire. I have Rock and Flying. Devlin is still slightly under level for this, so I will probably only use him in the underling battles." She paused and took another deep breath. "Fast and agile Scyther. Miles is fast and agile. Scyther is very weak to Rock. Might save Miles specifically for that battle. But Star is doubly weak to Grass. She does have Ice Beam now though. But Bug is not weak to Ice, Grass is. This all depends on Bugsy's other Pokemon. Let's think. Other Bug-Types. Caterpie and evolutions. Weedle and evolutions. Ledyba and Ledian. Spinarak and Ariados. Venonat and Venomoth. Crap. I can't remember any others! What if he has like some random Hoenn or Sinnoh Polemon? Then I'm screwed. Okay okay okay gotta focus." She stopped mid-rant and looked down. Bad idea. Her body shook violently. 'No more of that...' She focused on the Pidgeot's feathers. "Lemme think. Also Poison. Poison is also weak to Psychic. I don't have any Psychic. So basically...Hope I get lucky? Fight with all of my Pokemon with the underlings, taking advantage of typing. Heal before battle with Bugsy. With Bugsy, pair Scyther up with Miles for sure. Miles will probably be my ace in the hole. Star's Ice Beam will come in handy if with any double typed Pokemon aside from Poison. Devlin's Fly could be useful, avoiding an attack and all. Hit em hard and hit em fast as possible. Don't let Star go against any fast Pokemon." She abruptly fell silent, her rant having exhausted itself. "That's all I got." She blinked a few times, the wind making her eyes water. She still shivered, though it may have been because of the cold. She was surprised at how much she remembered from when she had studied Pokemon extensively as a child.
Miharu listened intently, her eyes closed as she visualized Sam's strategy in her mind, making sure to agree when appropriate. "Ice type moves are strong against flying Pokemon as well," she added at one point, "which is Scyther's second type." She continued to listen, opening her eyes and looking around. Below her she could see a seemingly never-ending expanse of trees starting to spread out - Ilex Forest. A few seconds later she could see Azalea Town below them and she nudged Aska with her knee and the bird began to descend, slowly as to not assault the two trainers with the sudden feeling of vertigo. Miharu slid down from the Pidgeot's back once she'd touched down in front of the Pokemon Center, just as Sam had finished.
"Sounds like you've got it all figured out," she said, nodding. "Just in time too, because, well, we're here." She paused for dramatic effect as Aska lowered herself to the ground so that Sam could get down as well, and once her passengers had dismounted she arched her back a little, certain she may have lost a few feathers during that flight. It was nothing she couldn't handle though, and she did her best not to look tired even as Miharu recalled her into her PokeBall for a well-deserved rest.
"It's time to take advantage of that Nuzleaf's dark-type," Katie murmured to herself, snapping her Pokedex shut. "Kord, use Low Kick on that Nuzleaf," she called, taking a quick glance at Mimi. "And Miles, try a Sonic Boom on the Lombre!" She pointed at the appropriate targets to make sure her Pokemon understood.
"Elebiii!" Kord cried, clapping his hands together before he rushed forward.
"Bui, bui!" agreed Miles, also moving forward, though he stopped after a few feet and planted his front paws on the grassy ground, pivoting his body around. His twin tails whipped through the air, creating a sound burst that sped through the air, catching the Lombre hard in the chest. It cried out and staggered back, unable to believe that the Buizel had recovered so quickly. Kord, meanwhile, was having a more difficult time hitting his opponent, as every time he swung out for his sweeping kick the Nuzleaf found a way to dodge. At one point Kord missed by a large margin, and found himself on the receiving end of a strong Pound attack as ordered by Mimi. The little Elekid stumbled back, rubbing his now very tender cheek. That attack had hurt!
"That Sonic Boom looked painful, so Lombre, give that Buizel a taste of your Absorb!" Kiki shouted. "We'll show you how dumb it is to bring a water-type into a grass-type gym!" The Lombre didn't seem to appreciate being smacked around either and it sauntered forward, opening its mouth and sending out a bunch of greenish bubbles that quickly moved towards Miles. The agile Buizel was able to dodge a few of them but the rest slammed right into him, disappearing for a second or two before they reappeared, glowing brightly with the energy they had stolen from Miles. They quickly returned to their sender and the Lombre clapped his own hands happily, feeling better now that he had healed himself a bit. Katie growled, realizing that perhaps she'd made a mistake in sending out Miles after all.
Sam looked around in shock. "Wow...that wasn't bad at all! I didn't even realize we were here!" She slid off the bird, her legs still a little shaky, and she stumbled. She looked around at Azalea Town. It was...quaint. Bigger then Cianwood, but it seemed smaller because it was landlocked, and right next to a huge forest at that. All the houses were done traditionally, and Sam smiled when she saw smoke curling from a larger house's chimney. 'Idyllic...'she thought to herself. She turned to the Pokemon Center.
"I don't think we have to go there. We healed up just before we left Goldenrod. So...to the Gym?" Sam couldn't help the excitement bubbling up. Now that the flight was over, the prospect of another Gym battle was making Sam more focused and more determined. She quickly forgot her fear of flying. She gazed around, looking for the Gym. She located the building, as it was slightly taller and a lot larger then most of the houses. "Let's go," she said, starting to walk towards the Gym, motioning to Miharu to follow. She turned and walked backwards. "By the way, Miharu, thanks so much for the ride. It would have taken me forever to get through Ilex Forest. And also....just thanks. For stickin with me. Through my craziness." She turned back around, a bit embarassed.
The kids response to Rowans other question was certainly startling. He looked panicked after he tried to answer, then again Rowan couldn't really blame him, if he couldn't remember his own name then he would probably be a little panicked. The panic didn't last long though since it was soon replaced by embarrassment at his situation. Sighing Rowan rubbed his mustache between two fingers as he eyed the boy across from him. This mornings headache seemed to be coming on earlier then expected, at least the boy was polite. "If you don't remember your name you must have hit your head somewhere, you probably have a concussion. Sit there while I call the police, they can probably figure out who you are better then I can kid." Getting up from his stool Rowan headed over to one of the many phones that were scattered across various places in the lab.
Miharu sighed and took in the sights of the town. It had been quite a while since the last time she'd been here, as it was always a chore going back and forth through the Ilex Forest. She turned to Sam, and shrugged. "No, we don't really need to go in there, but for some reason, Aska always lands in front of the Pokemon Center. I guess the red roof must be an easy landmark for her to spot or something." She followed along behind Sam, still looking around as they walked. She tried not to laugh at Sam's comment, though she failed miserable. "There's no need to thank me," she said, picking up her pace so that they were walking side by side. "It's been a lot of fun. I've never been good at making friends, but for some reason or other I'm comfortable with you, craziness and all," she added with a chuckle.
"It's been a while since I was here last," she said quietly to herself once they'd reached the gym. "Aska was still only a tiny little Pidgey..." She looked back to Sam. "Are you ready?" she asked, sure she already knew the answer.
Sam grinned at Miharu. "We are alike then. I've always been an anti-social loner. I'm terrible at making friends. My craziness probably didn't help any. But you know what?" She glanced sideways at Miharu. "I'm certainly having more fun now then I ever did as a child in Cianwood. It is so boring there!"
As they stopped in front of the Gym, Sam looked to the sky, not praying or asking for divine help, just to receive inspiration and courage. She nodded just once. "Of course I am," she said in response to Miharu's question, before she strode through the doors. As soon as she stepped in, she realized this was going to be much different than her last Gym battle. There were no rock formations this time. Instead, there was a veritable forest. Sam's eyes widened in amazement. "Wow...Miharu, are all gyms like this? Was it like this last time you were here?" She touched a small tree that was near her. She jumped back with surprise. "It's real!"
