Last year our band played music from the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. Now this year every person from last year's band wants to play PIRATES again. My band director says If someone asks her to play Pirates on more time she's gonna poke us with her conducting stick. It's very sharp, since she broke it last year.

RinoaHeartilly KitoYasha RinoaHeartilly KitoYasha My BD back in intermediate school used to call us the "flutie tooties"! Well...either that, or "knuckleheads", used interchangeably. He called everyone the latter, though...he hates kids. Well that's nice. Why the heck did he become a teacher then? I can definately see the thought process on that one. I don't really get it either. =/ I hated him so much that I had actually quit back in the sixth grade, but came back, and then quit again, came back, quit, and finally returned the beginning of this year. Fancy that.lol xd Plan on quitting again any time soon? A lot of people hated my BD in 8th grade, but then everyone just loved him in 9th. It seems to happen every year. The freshman come in saying how they hated him in 8th, but now they love him. xd Ho, ho. =P
It's the same way with my BD. I had him in seventh grade last I quit, and now I have him again this year, and he's pretty cool. Just a little...rude.

We don't have any guy flutes in our band, but we have 2 guys who play clarinet. They compete with each other all the time, but they're good friends. They're also good friends with me.

We don't have any guy flutes in our band...just us girls, and most of the freshman flutes don't even play. It's depressing. =/
I have a little bit of a predicament, if anyone would be willing to help me. As some of y'all know, I just recently rejoined band this year. Well, I've certainly gotten over the "ZOMGICAN'TEVENPLAYHIGHD" thing easily enough, but the problem is my endurance. I can barely go three measures without taking a breath, and I don't even have asthma. I practice at least three or four hours a day as it is, and it just doesn't help my stamina...any tips? Thanks in advance.
My Christmas concert is December seventh. Yay! =)

I just wanted to throw out a question for you people.
I'm really wanting on getting a new flute, for the one I currently have isn't that good. I'm wondering what would be a good brand and type of flute to use? I'm looking for good, but I'm not professional.
Thanks!
Go Flutes!

outwarddoodles I just wanted to throw out a question for you people. I'm really wanting on getting a new flute, for the one I currently have isn't that good. I'm wondering what would be a good brand and type of flute to use? I'm looking for good, but I'm not professional. Thanks! Go Flutes! i don't know how you feel about trying to choose a new flute because i've always had a good working fine playing flute....and i would recomend the brand to you but unfortunately the dont make Conn's anymore they stopped some years ago, but back about 50 years ago they were the best you could get and they still are! but they went out of business when the cheaper Yamaha brands came out. but though Yamaha is cheaper it isnt the best quality compared to a Conn but alas a Conn would cost way to much now because there are so few, like i said, mine is 50 years old and i believe that was the newest brand so you can imagine how old others would be. anyway, back to business, yahama would be the best quality you can get in this century and for intermediate flutes, I'd definitely go with a Yamaha. It's a very good brand, and you have a wide range of models to choose from that go from intermediate flutes up to what professionals use. flutesonline.com is a great site with a lot of information for those shopping for a flute, as well as great prices on flutes and accessories. This page: flutesonline.com it is especially good, as it's a list of different flute models laid out in at-a-glance fashion, so you can immediately see what the differences are between, say, the Yamaha 300 series and Yamaha 400 series. (This is very handy when trying to process all these different brands and model numbers. smile you should check out something along the lines of a Yamaha 361H Flute: this has open-holes, B foot, silverplated body and foot joint, and a solid silver headjoint. Brand new, it costs $799.95 at flutesonline.com... the cheapest price I've seen anywhere online (sometimes by a few hundred bucks). Just a note about quality: know what your expectations for the new flute are. For instance, if you're serious about music, it may be better go with a more expensive flute, if that means you won't have to buy yet another "step up" flute within the next few years. Conversely, if you want a decent flute as a hobby instrument, you'll want to find a flute that sounds good but won't break your wallet. Right now, the choices and options can be overwhelming, but once you've been able to narrow down your selection to a few model numbers, then you can make your final choice through playing them - certainly the best way to find the flute that's right for you. smile Anyway, I hope this helps.

OMG we were supposta do that as a marching show for my Senior year but then he changed it and we didn't even have a show really, i can't even remember the dumb music we had. I was so mad when he took Pirates of the Caribbean away, i was really looking forward to playing that music. *glares at Mr. Byma*

My Christmas concert is December seventh. Yay! =) We don't have any guy flutes either. We used to have a couple, but they both graduated last year.
As for the endurance thing... breathing exercises and longtones. Flute is, like, the worst instrument ever for air resistance. :/ I can hold a note on my sax twice as long as on my flute. Flute takes SO much more control. >>;; So yeah, breathing exercises. We do some in our band but I can't quite explain how to do them. Ask your BD if he knows any.
Our Christmas concert is the fifteenth of December. I'm excited because the next day the steel drums class gets to go out for lunch. smile

I know one friend at my school who can play flute, but he currently now seems to play oboe as his main instrument.
While at my old school I knew of another guy who played flute. He was sometimes made fun of (well, he did have a high pitched voice...), but I like it when a guy plays flute.
It's not 'girly' at all.
Taijiya Sango Chan: Thanks. :]

I don't think there are many 8th grade flute players here...~pats you on the head~ thats ok, only a little bit longer to go till you get to join in on the fun. see, where I went to middle school, it was like torchure because of the band director. So A method I came up with is, in order to get to the good stuff you have to go through some torchure. So next year you'll be like...Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
