Just as Siber was formulating his answer, the other thoughts ripped through his mind.
But Keldan didn't matter. Not when she was... not when she was... but she doesn't even know! She doesn't even know I love her!! She can't... NO!!! He felt hopeless, an overwhelming regret I should have told her when I could, but... and then that vision was over.
Children... and Legion... In the same picture, it was disgusting. Who would have the audacity to rip away a child before it could even form coherent ideals, who gave themselves the right to murder?! It was a possibility, though, a definite and blood-boiling possibility, if Legion remained alive; why had Siber even considered siding with him? Selfishness was- and then the knife was in him. He had the barest instant to see what had to have been the Ghoster, had to be, and that meant the knife was... It wasn't the blackness that terrified him, because there, there was no fear, there was no thought. It was the horrifying reality of snapping back to real life and knowing it had happened. His face went a whiter shade of pale in the car and his teeth ground from the effort to control this personal hell the thing had made for him. Joe may as well have not been there. Keldan warned him, mentally restraining him as well as he could. WHO ARE YOU?! Siber screamed into the hollow sound of the telepathic. And he got his answer.
You are the materialization and manifestation of the full measure of the plagues and blessings of the human mind, is what I'm hearing, he hissed, still reeling from the mental onslaught. Yes, I fear oblivion. What is your purpose in... trying to... and nearly succeeding in... he took a few deep, deep breaths and leaned back against the seat of the car, finally gaining a semblance of balance against the three extremes of negative emotion, each of which he thought he had successfully controlled. Breaking me?

((Wow, look at all the OOC that happened... I really need to check the thread before posting a long one. Yeah, we need to bump this ride pretty quick. But head-trips are fun for me; psychological writing 4 t3h w1nn0rz biggrin ))

((THIS IS TEH COLOR OF TEH CONFUZION! confusion is yellow! Man, I wanna do some Joe development, but I haven't really gotten much of a chance. I suppose the opportunity will come up when he faces the Djinni and Helmsborough, but until then... Besides, he's a pretty straightforward kinda guy. He's mostly developed, now I just need to exhibit some of his unusual tendencies.))
Joe consulted Roland and relayed his knowledge.
Patron. Roland shrugged in agreement and they drove on. Joe noticed Siber's twitchings and deep, deep breaths as he finally relaxed on the seat. "You OK?" he asked, yet again. He wasn't all too thrilled to get an answer.

Exactly, it replied, and Siber felt its satisfaction. We are a materialization and a manifestation, as you put it. And without souls to feel ambition or regret or to think, we are nothing. If your truest final self is realized, we will be all the stronger for it... but what we truly need is an ally against the Ghosters. They are the abomination. They expose souls to what lies beyond the Twelfth Pillar, beyond Reality or Unreality... to the oblivion. This is unacceptable. Every soul they feed to oblivion strengthens things never meant to be.
((Why yes, this may be a hint at a future plotline....))

((The Sages (and thus, the Djinni) know a fairly large amount about the 12th pillar because of the Sage's use of it in the Physics Beam attack. Also, that would be the first contact of your Djinn Patron and Roland, because that information postdates the original Cabal also.))

((Right, I figured as much, although Joe hasn't actually had contact with the 12th itself, right? Other than the Physics Beam, which doesn't count because everybody had contact with that. Annnnnnnnd...not to be contrary, but knowing what I know the Djinni (Iblis in particular) I would say that they might have been in the Council by the time of the original Cabal...Ultimately, it's up to you, but I did some research so I didn't look like an ignorant boob, and it seems to me that the Council would have to be wither jam-packed or immensely stupid not to invite the Djinni a long time before the Dark Ages.))

((What I meant was when Joe was affected by the Dreamshell's little psychological doo-jabbers. *shrug* But that's really the same level of contact as the Physics Beam, I guess.)) "Yes. I'm fine," he responded casually, shaking his head to straighten out his hair, but still failing to look anywhere but straight ahead. He took one last deep breath and decided he was calm. Excuse me if I must take a moment to collect my thoughts. This is a difficult concept for me. mused Keldan.
This is arguing against the theory of conservation of energy rather mightily, even when the theory is applied to spiritual energy in addition to physical, so excuse me if I sound dim-witted, but what could possibly benefit from the destruction of a soul except... something which fed upon the very material from which souls are made...? I am with anyone who opposes the Ghosters, certainly, but I wish to know more about what I'm fighting. Are the Ghoster working for these others, beyond the Twelfth Pillar?

((The Djinni were part of the Council when the original Cabal was around. The 12th Pillar was dismissed and the Physics Beam unconceived until a couple centuries after the Cabal fell, however.))

((Oh oh OH, gotcha. I was severely confused. confused ))
Joe shrugged. "If you says so." He began to ponder on his own as they neared the airport. Maybe... They pulled into the airport parking lot. Joe made up his mind and resolved to talk to Siber on the plane ride. After all, they'd have time.
