Doppelgaanger Now, I'm not learning French, but this had been bugging me for a while: What's the difference between quoi and pas in negating sentences? Je ne parle pas francais. Je ne se quoi. They're both used... ? Quoi means "what". Pas means "not". Quoi isn't typically used to negate anything, as far as I know. =s In spoken French, the "ne" part of the negation is often dropped ("je sais pas"), but in some structures, the "pas" is what's dropped. It's best to use both the "ne" and the "pas" until you're sure of your sentence structure, though. razz

SoundSpy-Ayumi Salut, J'adore lire des romans dans francais. Malheureusement, mon écriture est très mal. Je le touve difficile, si Je essaye très fort, si vous comprendez cetter lettre. Moi, je te comprends! C'est absolument pas mal votre francais. Un peu de fautes d'écriture, mais moi je trouve ça aussi très très difficile. Quel est votre pays d'origine? OT: I myself have been learning French for.. almost 8 years now. It's common here in Belgium because we have three official languages and French is one of them, so we are required to study them in school. There's no choice. I don't really hate French, but not I'm not liking it very much either. I especially hate the grammar and the writing part, but speaking goes pretty fluent. I can do that.

Salut. J'ai étudié le Francais pour quatre/cinq ans. J'ai un examen francais le 25 Janvier, mais je ne comprenais pas la différence entre l'imparfait et le conditionnel.
Sorry about my French...and basically I'm confused because the teacher taught them to us in a rushed manner, so to sum it up, she was going too quickly. Any kind of help would be appreciated u.u.

I've started to learn French! :3 I'm still continuing with my Japanese though.

I haven't really spoken French for half a year, but now I have semester 2 at school with French again, so hopefully I'm not too rusty. u_u
Je peux parler le francais pour une conversation simple, mais ma grammaire n'est pas parfait et je n'est pas étudiante. Je dois pratiquer!

Salut! Je m'appelle Maggie et j'ai 19 ans. J'ai etudie le francais depuis 5 ans et j'adore le francais. Je habite en les Etats- Unis. Je parle l'anglais, le francais razz , l'irandais et tres peu l'italien. Je voudrais etre un prof ou traville en un ambassade de etranger.

Salut, j'habite au Canada, mais en Ontario. Et je ne prend pas le cours d'immersion francais, donccc mon francais est tres pauvre. J'ai etudie francais pour... deux semestres (presqu'un an au total).

Yeah that's about how much French I actually know since I've never taken a class and what I do know is mostly a French pronunciation of my Spanish sweatdrop

Bien, je viens de quitter mon job récemment et je suis même parti de la province francophone où j'habitais pendant un an. Alors, je n'ai plus l'occasion à parler français quotidiennement. sad Il me semble que personne ici ne parle que l'anglais, et bien que j'aie besoin de pratiquer à l'écrit, j'ai beaucoup peur de perdre ma langue.
(Je dois vraiment me forcer à faire la négation correctement, parce qu'à l'orale je n'utilise "ne" presque jamais. sweatdrop )

(I'm not learning French, and I do not speak it, so please be nice to me if my questions are dumb. sweatdrop I just have a question, and I didn't want to put it somewhere else and then just get directed here.)
I came across the French Revolutionary slogan/motto of the French Republic "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité, ou la Mort" (though the ou la Mort part isn't in the motto, right?) and I asked my Mom how the "ou la Mort" part is pronounced. She didn't know, and I'm still curious, so...it's mainly the "ou", seems ridiculous to me but I don't know how to say it. >_>
Also, she thought it should have been "le", not "la", though I forgot her reasons. Is it la, or was that a typo on the part of what I was reading?

No, it's la mort. "Death" is feminine. A lot of feminine words end in "e", but there are exceptions.
It's pronounced "oo" (like shoe) "la" (just the way it looks) "mort" (like the English word more).
Ou la mort, oo la more. x3 Not to be confused with "oo la moor!" (ooh, l'amour!)

J’ai commencé un journal français en Gaia pour pratiquer mon français. Je pense que j’ai fais beaucoup de fautes ! LOL
