I play alto and Bari Sax, and my band director forces you to get Vandorens. I had rico, and he was like =0. I use Vandoren and it has greatley improved my sound. I'm on a 3 now, and I love it. It's a little harder to play, but I'm brraking it in quickly for january. =)

I use Vandoren size 3 for concert, but for marching I'm pretty much forced to use a med-hard Fibracell. Wooden tenor sax reeds dry out too quickly to use on the field. :/
And I've played sax long enough to where new reeds taste rather good. whee

And I think that's a great idea, with the fibracell for marching band... I may just have to get myself one.

Kay5295 i play clarinet, and i use a size 3 vandoren reed. i have to sand down my reeds otherwise i sound really airy. :/ Hehe... just buy 2 1/2's or 2's and you won't have to sand at all. Later on, though, as your embouchure gets more developed, go towards 3 1/2's and further if you can. The tone out of those is so much richer... you'll know what I'm talking about later on.

I play clarinet. Vandoren reeds size 4. My BD told me to go back to three though because any higher size makes it sound too airy. I'm also playing bass clarinet for concert band but I'm not sure which reed to go with. Any sax players have a reed recomendation?

I play bassoon and I like to make my own reeds, starting with profiled and gouged cane. I love making blanks and wrapping them is my favourite part ^^ I just get frustrated when I try to scrape them because I tend to take off the corners ^_^' Although, I am getting better at it! I can actually make a decent reed without any help now!

Bass clarinet can't go wrong with vandoren, and get a thinner one than you think you need. It's surprisingly hard to get sound out of the higher ones.

I use Vandoren 3's. I play alto sax. I always thought that Rico seemed cheap, and poor quality. I realize that embouhure is a big part of tone quality, but so is the reed, and Rico just sounds cheap to me.
