Batsu sat up straight after reading that this guy named Pavlov taught a dog to create a reaction to a stimulus. The stimus, the bell, caused the dog to respond by salivating, the reaction. Batsu started to use this knowledge and think of a way of how it deals with him, just so he could get a better understanding.

After a moment of pondering, Batsu recalled a moment from a year ago when he grabbed a cat by his tail. He remembered that the cat hissed loudly and scratched him. After that, he knew not to bother a cat's tail.

He continued to read.

"Both reinforcement and punishment can be positive or negative, an idea that sometimes causes confusion. In general, positive reinforcement or punishment involves adding a consequence, while negative punishment or reinforcement removes a stimulus."

Batsu nodded when he read that reinforcement and punishment can cause confusion, because he was certainly confused. He had heard of negative reinforcement, but always associated it with punishing someone for doing bad. If that was the case, then what the hell was punishment? Batsu kept reading, hoping that some stuff would be made simpler to him.

"Positive reinforcement occurs when a reward is given for desired behavior. For example, someone with a driving phobia might drive to her favorite store. Shopping in the store is positive reinforcement for the act of driving."

Batsu got a shaky grasp of what positive punishment. But the question remained, what the hell was negative punishment? The boy dove back into the book.

"Negative reinforcement occurs when something unpleasant is removed due to the desired behavior. For example, someone with a phobia of snakes and a job at a pet store might become an expert in birds to avoid handling the snakes."

Batsu whispered softly so that he wouldn't disturb the librarian again. He finnally got the idea of reinforcement and vocalized it to himself.

"Ah, so reinforcement deals with doing good. Positive reinforcement is when something is added to your routine. Like if you make good grades, your parent gives you a raise on your allowance. Likewise, negative reinforcement is when something is taken away... in a good way.

So if reinforcement is good, then..."
he started reading again.

"Positive punishment can be a confusing concept. This occurs when something undesirable happens as the result of a behavior. A classic example is a child being given extra chores."

Batsu caught on extremely fast and closed the book, even if there was one page left. By simple logic, the book was gonna discuss negative punishment, which would be something like taking a kid's toy when they threw a fit.

The boy felt that he neede to go back to the academy and hone his skills some more. Adter all, he DID just read two books and that alone was not gonna help him graduate.

So Batsu closeed the book, placed it back on the shelf and made himself scarce. With knowledge gained and lessons learned, he left the library.

((Enter from the academy))

Before Batsu even made his way into the actual library, Batsu made his way to the bathroom and washed his hands... thoroughly... about three times. Batsu HATED Akemi and was developing a similar hatred for the Hoshigaki race in general. As luck would have it, he was being placed in a squad with not one, but two of the bastards. If one of them were to just DIE, he definitely wouldn't mind at all. They both treated him like s**t, so why should he even care about what happens to them?

After Batsu felt like he rid himself of Akemi's filth on his hand, he actually walked into the room filled with books. The boy saw the librarian at her desk reading... as usual. He thought it wise to not disturb her, since the last time proved to be most uncomfortable. The boy just walked to a shelf and scanned the covers until he saw a title that caught his eye... poisons.

(8 ) Batsu grabbed the book and just plopped right down on the ground in front of the shelf. He figured he'd be there for a while, so getting comfortable was something needed. Batsu opened the book and as he went to the first page, he noticed a big blue splotch on the page. "Hmmm... what the hell is t-" The boy became curious until he used his common sense, he was reading a book on poisons, so could this be... poison. The boy's face turned into a frown and he started handling the book like it had some horrible disease. Suddenly, another trip to the sink to wash his hands sounded like a good idea.

(19) Batsu gingerly turned the page of the book and saw another spot where the liquid seeped through the page. Good thing was that it wasn't near as bad and he was able to see the text in the spot, so the bot started to read the contents of the book and hopefully absorb all there was.

(7) Paranoia had set in and the thought of Batsu touching the book with a mysterious blot was getting to him. No, he wasn't feeling any symptoms of poisoning, but it didn't mean that he WOULDN'T either. Batsu just couldn't take it anymore. The boy dropped the book and ran to the bathroom to wash his hands. This was gonna be the start of a LOOONG battle to read.

(4) As bad as Batsu wanted to read the book, Batsu's obsessive nature made it hard for him. He'd hate to make a simple trip to read end up with him in the hospital. So as far as he was concerned, if he had to take a trip to the bathroom every time he turned the page then that was fine by him. He was there to READ about poisons, not get hands-on experience FROM poison.

(5)The young male headed back to the library and felt a bit better about himself being clean. Only problem was that he had to go back to that disgusting book. As the boy made his way to where he was reading, he became more and more nervous about picking up the literature to read once more. The boy just sat back down and stared at the book, thinking of a way to read without having to touch the damn thing.

(10) Batsu knew that the more time he wasted worrying about the spot, the longer it would take him to finish the damn thing. So the boy had to suck it up and read the ******** book. The book was picked up and Batsu went back to reading where he once was. He figured that as long as he kept his mind off the so-called poison and just kept reading, he'd be okay.

(20) The boy's strategy was paying off so far. He wasn't thinking about the spot and was, in turn, able to learn about poisons from plants that he never knew existed. The information proved most beneficial to the boy, especially since he was skilled in kunai throwing. One good throw of a laced kunai and he'd do some serious damage to a foe. Strangely, a sadistic smirk crept onto the boy's face.

(11) Batsu grabbed a kunai out of his bag and started to twirl the handle around his finger as he kept reading. The boy's thoughts became a bit cloudy. He knew there was another weapon that would benefit him when it came to poison, however the name was just not coming to him... nor was there even a mental picture of it. It started to agitate the boy to no end and he started to rack his brain thinking about it. The boy put the kunai knife back in his bag and he scratched the side of his face.

(5) After the boy scratched his face, it began to itch, which made him scratch more until he remembered the ******** spot on the book. The boy's eyelids shot up and he thought, "HOLY s**t... AND I TOUCHED MY FACE!!" The boy let go of the book and ran at full speed to the bathroom. Forget where he was... screw the librarian... his face was in danger of falling off!

(11) Batsu came back from the bathroom rubbing a damp paper towel on the area where he scratched. Good thing was that he stopped itching there, so that was good for him. The boy walked back in the library and quickly went back to reading his book. It wouldn't be his last trip to the lavatory, but he made sure he'd never touch his face again while reading this stained book again. His face was too precious to him.

(7) As Batsu kept reading and scrubbing his face, he dropped the wet paper towel onto the page mid-sentence and it ******** th page up that he was reading. Batsu dropped his head to the ground and sighed. Not only did he have to worry about the first ink blot, now he had to worry about the page that he himself screwed up. It would be his luck that he had to end up paying for the book out of pocket. However, the boy had no job and no money so he freaked out in his mind.

(9) Batsu delicately isolated the page on the ground so he could start trying to dry the damn thing. Maybe, just maybe, he didn't do any damage to the page. It was a fat chance considering that the text was made of ink but it was worth a shot. Batsu took a quick glance at the librarian just to make sure she wasn't looking. Lucky for him, she was too invested in the book she was reading... as usual.

(6) Batsu crouched down to the page's level and started to fan the page to make it dry faster. Every now and then, he would look up at the front desk just to make sure that the woman wasn't staring at him or anything like that. All the while he kept fanning the page and would blow softly every so often... until he heard a sudden noise. The boy jumped a bit and sat straight up. He looked at the page and though it was still a little damp, he could make out what was said on the page.

(16) The boy picked the book back uap started reading again. There were a few spots that were illegible, but Batsu was able to decipher what was meant using his common sense and book sense. The boy picked up some effects of poisoning and found it quite interesting that some of the more dangerous poisons could knock a person unconscious or even worse kill them. This made Batsu want to use poisoning even more.

(17) The boy turned the page and on it was a detailed list of poisons that one could make from herbs and other various plants. Batsu wanted to make a detailed list of what did what and how much it could do, but the boy came unprepared and was not about to ask the librarian for anything. He knew how she could get when she was disturbed. So Batsu figured that he'd take the book and make the list elsewhere. But he wanted to read here before having to go back to the chaos of the academy.

(17) Batsu so desperately wanted to make a composite list of poisons and the urge was tearing him apart. But the boy continued to read along just so could get done quicker. What he had learned thus far would suffice in the long run, but the boy wanted to more so he could be proficient in the skill. Who knows, he might end up going against someone he hated and wanted to deal them a slow, agonizing death?

(6) Batsu turned the page and saw another list of poisons. Only this one had a list of poisons on land animals such as scorpions and dart frogs. That was the last straw, Batsu HAD to get a travel list with him so he could study and brush up on everything when necessary. Batsu jumped up and walked over to the librarian's desk where he saw a whole stack of paper just sitting there. He didn't need the whole pile, just a few sheets at most. So the boy took what he felt was needed and went back to his spot.

(4) The boy was about to sit down where he was until he realized that he was missing something important... a pen. Batsu grumbled as he turned around and went back to the librarian's desk. Next to the paper stack was a bunch of pens that was available. Batsu took one and headed back to the book once again to make his list. Hopefully, the boy wouldn't have to get up again.

(17) Batsu had paper and a writing utensil, so the boy was able to start his cheat sheet of sorts, so the boy sat back down and started writing his list. He flipped back a couple of pages and wrote the names, symptoms and cures to herb poisoning before flipping back to the land animals and doing the same thing. He noticed one thing about them both. The higher the chakra control one had, the better chance they had to extract the poison. This was definitely something he needed to write down , so he did just that before he continued to read.

(5) With the wealth of knowledge at his fingertips, the boy kept making more and more notes so he'd become a better shinobi. He knew he was already close to graduating, so it would prove most beneficial to him after he left the academy. This caused Batsu to daydream for a bit and he ended up forgetting about the book and his notes... and even where he was for that matter.

The boy snapped out of his daydream and went back to taking notes on poison and made sure actually focused as he went to the next page in the book. Another list.. but this one dealt with animals in the sea... namely around Kiri. Batsu stared hard at some of them and it made him realize one thing as he wrote stuff down... swimming in the village was definitely a bad idea.

Batsu closed the book then took his notes and folded them up and put them in his bag. The boy then grabbed the book and put it back on the shelf as he walked back to the librarian's desk and put the pen back to where it first was. He then sighed as he walked out and back to the academy. He didn't wanna go just because of the Hoshigaki, but knew that it was necessary that he DID go.

Gennosuke entered the library hoping to find something of interest. He had decided he would research a couple things. He needed new a new jutsu and so he figured he should look up puppetry. Is Mokujin could use them then he was sure it wouldn't be that hard. He walked up and down the aisles trying to find the librarian but before he could he found something of interest. A small book about puppetry in the "P" section. He picked it up and headed over to a table to start his studying.

As he opened the book he started to read but it was full of sketches and notes and scribbles. He couldn't make out much of anything from first glance. "This is gonna be a pain," he said to himself with a big sigh. He was hoping this would be something simple but he guessed not. Although he could have probably learned faster from going straight to Mokujin he figured he would atleast learn the basics by himself.
