Takiko-chan BakaTulip I doubt that it is a direct reference but have you ever seen/read Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness)? Well yeah I won't give you a full run down but there is this dude who lives in the Hall of Candles, and he records human lives, kinda gnifty, and all the candles around so make me think of Erik's lair... anyways, the Count who kinda... rules over this building is invisible and all you can see of him are his gloves and a floating half mask (granted it looks metallic and sharp, it amused me. Oh and his servant Watson looks Eriky too) Do you know which specific episode(s) we see the references? I watched this series looooong ago, way before I got into PotO, and I would love to see the references. whee Hmn... I dunno what Episodes really... I remember seeing the Count somewhere in the first 3... Because that's all I've seen... I've read the manga 1-8 and he's always... around... somewhere...

Fushigi_Tsubasa Phantom Gremlin!? Yeah i just recently watched again those cute evil lil critters (well apart from Gizmo) Gremlins 1 and 2 ^^ but in Gremlins 2 there is indeed a POTO Gremlin ^_^ one of the evil gremlins in the science lab gets a faceful of acid thrown by another fellow Gremlin ^^' then he he hides his disfigered face with a mask. Whooot go Phantom Gremlin lol Can anyone remember this? he also gets another scene near the end when he's playing the organ and his mask then gets removed by a female gremlin. Anyway i thought i share you this random bit of POTO sorry me couldn't find any screenshots and i'm not insane. Gawd, I've got to go rent that now. I saw it a million times when I was little and I remember something about the acid but nothing about the organ. It was before I became a phan so it probably didn't stick in my mind.

Not really a reference but I was thinking the other day that Revolutionary Girl Utena has a few phantomy elements...
Utena, an orphan, is looking for the Prince who saved her as a child when her parents died. She has this admiration and longing for the prince which kinda of relates to Christine's yearning for the Angel of Music.
Also the notes from Sekai no Hate (The end of the world) orchestrating the duels to come out as he wants them to. And the guy sending the notes is the prince...or half of him at least.
---
Also not directly about Phantom but I was watching Family Guy the other day, the episode where Peter takes over Lois's production of the King and I and Stewie threw his potatoes at Peter and shouted, "You're the worst thing to happen to theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!" I nearly fell out of bed laughing.

I don't know how many of you have seen the 40 Year Old Virgin...but it was a very...erm...unique movie. If you could get past the outrageous plot lines, you could plainly see an Erik action figure in 3 or 4 scenes...

I was watching Ed, Edd, and Eddy this evening (>.> the dork that I am) and in this one episode, all the neighborhood kids were standing around this haunted house discussing who the house belonged to and Rolf said that the house belonged to (something to the extent of) the "demented opera singer who lures little boys and girls with enchanted arias." Okay so time passes and the Eds go into the house and get totally freaked out because they heard... I think it was a music box and Ed said something to the extent of "It's the Phantom of the Earwax" and Edd freaks out.... XD... bad reference but... hehe

In a recent episode of the Simpsons, the Simpsons are running away from side show Bob and end up at a theater. They are all putting on costumes to disguise themselves, and Homer asks if he can be the phantom of the opera. Lisa says that that isn't the opera that is playing(I think it was Pagliachi(sp?)) He goes "Aww but I do such a great impression of him!" and turns away and covers up half of his face, "Oooh I'm the Phantom of the opera, I'm the lamest super villan ever, fear my sented candles~!"
At this point I'm grumbling loudly and looking for something to throw at the tv gonk

I freaked out when I watched Gremlins 2 (Yeah I know... a bit quirky O.o) last year, and I came across the part when the gremlins were in the lab playing with all the chemicals one threw acid at the other's face and he put up a phantom mask!I squealed when I saw the gremlins recreate the scene when the Phantom is playing the organ and a "Christine" gremlin pulls off his mask. I saw it when I was little but I never understood it >.< I can't believe I came across a PoTO reference as I am ver so slow in recognizing things like that.

I was just watching the musical episode of even stevens with my lil brother, and in the song "Master of the Gym" the gym teacher has this half mask made out of a soccer ball. the funny thing is, I've corrupted my entire family so much that all four of us yelled "Phantom of the Opera!" at the same time.

So yes I was watching music videos for Fatal Frame 2 which is pretty much my favorite video game, although I don't own it or play it alone and so normally, if I wasn't a phan I would have been scared out of my mind but there was this one guy and as you zoomed up on his face he had no nose and his eyes were really deeply set and kinda glowy and I'm like "Oh hey look, Hi Erik!"
