I take my supplements as a safeguard, not as medicine. And really, most omnivorous humans should also be taking vitemons. Very few people get the exact nutrition they need. Le Chat, it is very good that you make sure that you aren't missing anything from your diet. And I'm pretty sure it is possible to eat a vegitarian diet (not sure about a vegan one) without having to take any vitemons, with some care. Really it is best to eat a healthy diet, whether or not that includes meat or other animal products. And whatever choice someone makes about their diet should be respected, assuming it isn't horriblly unhealthy (like not eating, or the Atkins Diet).

Personally, if I had the option (Poor college student that I am), I would go completely without supplements. Maybe I'm weird this way, but I don't want to put any more artificial chemicals in my body then I have to. I also avoid medicines of any sort; I'd rather ride it out if I can, when I get sick. The other day I got a huge headache, and I didn't even think of taking Ibprofen until I complained to my mom about it.

I.Am Yeh, but that's not the point; We were talking with Veuve about a non-supplemented diet. Personally, if I had the option (Poor college student that I am), I would go completely without supplements. And I still stand by my assertion that one can be perfectly healthy on a non-supplemented ovo-vegetarian diet. It just has to be balanced, and not many people, vegetarians or not, eat balanced diets. E.g., I can't keep a wide variety of fresh fruits and veggies since I wouldn't be able to eat them before they'd spoil, so I usually just buy two or three things and eat those for a few days, then get something else. There's nothing wrong with ensuring you get all the vitamins you need, just to be safe--I think of it as grabbing a cereal bar for breakfast instead of taking half an hour to make oatmeal, just a shortcut, but not that much different in terms of nutritional value. Contrary to what some natural food gurus would have you believe, it doesn't matter where you get your vitamins from--vitamin C is vitamin C is vitamin C, whether it comes from a wild rose hip in the rain forest or stock chemicals mixed in a test tube. Your body doesn't know the difference.

And I stand by my assertion that you're wrong, that your reasoining works only for your self. I'll say it again. I've tried vegetarian and vegan diets for extended times and become very ill. Once I started eating meat again I soon became better. I'm convinced not every one can be perfectly healthy on a non-supplemented ovo-vegetarian diet.

Zin, I don't see what your problem is. I was taking what you said as truth, and said that you have to have eggs to have a balanced un-supplemented diet. I also didn't call everyone to give up their vitamins or supplements. I said I don't like to use them. Personal reasons.
And, really, I don't trust your opinion on how supplements work enough to all of a sudden completely trust supplements. confused I don't like them, alright? Use them if you like, I just stated that I don't like them, and why.

who told you it dosn't matter how you take your vitamins? Do you have any idea how much of the fake suppliment material is simply passed through your system because it's either undigestable or dosn't break down in the proper place in the digestive system?

I also heard many anti-depressants contain chemicals that won't break down and destroy your liver.
