Her sig says, "The band does NOT play at football games. The band graciously allows football to be played at their outdoor concerts." xd
We've got two piccolo players in our band - one in each class. Which is plenty, since you can hear them so well. I CAN play piccolo (my friend has a piccolo at her house and I've played it a bunch), but I don't have my own, so I don't play it for school.

I wish our other piccs were daring, but they're not, so rather than sound like I'm wrong (though I'm really right) I have to back down. I hate that. Anybody else here play oboe as a second or third or fourth....or whateverth instrument?

I can play oboe a little bit, because my friend plays one and I've played hers some. That thing has the weirdest embouchure ever. It sounds SO cool though.
Gah. I'm SO irritated with my flute section right now. I'm like baka-baka-chan in that I'm kind of the unofficial section leader (since we don't HAVE section leaders assigned or anything, except for in jazz band), and the stupidity of the flutes is getting to be more than I can take. x_x;; We got a piece on... Monday, I believe, and since it's a full orchestra piece we have weird key signatures, one of which has four sharps. Which is difficult, yeah, but in an HONORS band class, people should be able to play four sharps fairly well. Not perfectly (at least not right off the bat), but still so that the tune is at least recognizable. Well... they didn't. -_-;; And then I had most of the second row of flutes (there's five in the first, five in the second) asking me what a D# was. I told them it was an Eb and they just stared at me... I had to explain to them that it was the exact same fingering and everything. And this was two sophomores, a junior, and a senior. It's SO bad. I want LAST years' flute section back... there was only 6 flutes (including me), and they were all good.

Anybody else here play oboe as a second or third or fourth....or whateverth instrument? I hate it when that happens. One time when I was in junior high all of our flutes kept playing one octave lower than they were supposed to, and they knew it, they just didn't want to go higher cuz' then if they made a mistake everyone would hear it, so me and my stand partner had to play all the notes the correct way before everyone else did.

But my BD can't really hold auditions for a class that's already tiny (27 or so people) to begin with. So there's a lot of people that are just in there because they think they're too good to "be in the band with the freshmen." About half the flute section is only in wind ensemble for that reason. x_x;; I wish our band was bigger so we could be more selective....

Well, you know, I hate to sound pessimistic, but the freshman band (the one in which I play oboe) is more mature and better mannered than the wind ensemble....sad, huh?
The flute section is about to drive me crazy. I'm tempted to ask to switch to oboe full-time now.

We are a section of 6 floutists and we have 1 freshman, he's our first guy floutist so we're being really nice to him. We don't really have auditions because we can't be selective. Our band is about 40 people, but we were lucky to get so many new freshman because last last year we were only about 25 people and we lost one person last year, but he was our best trumpet player. Our section is pretty good, but I wish we were bigger. We are the smallest band in our area so people have given us the nickname teeny weeny Hueneme. We maybe small but we have the largest sound, so we surprise a lot of people.

One of them I guess quit band or something cuz' he never shows up anymore, and the other one like never comes to school. During one of our away games the other band was really small. (only about 17-20 people) you could barely hear them at all, and when they played in the stands no one could hear it unless you really listened.
