Natsumi nodded trying to catch allt he details as he spoke. In the back of her mind somethign went 'ew' to the garbage, however she was once again met with a 'too tired to care' feeling. So she took the tin, offering a smile and finding a nice place in the freezer to store it as he had suggested.

She gave another sniff, turning back to him to offer a smile, a poor one but a smile all the same. "Thankyou... again."

He fidgeted, looking thouroughly awkward, and would have been flushing thouroughly if had been able to. "Is... is th-there... anything else...?"

She mulled it for a moment... Anything else? Sure he could get her off this hellhole... It was a breif, bitter, passing thought. One that she quickly let go behind a fake smile and a shake of her head. "No..."

She stayed quiet for the most part, robotically keeping up whatever formalities her mind would remember. Before something finally slipped past the thin wall she'd managed. "C...Could you..." she trailed off, finding the question a bit awkward "Lunch. Could you come for lunch? Maybe... on the weekend.. Or any day. I am not really busy..." she gave a halfhearted chuckle at the last part, trying to signify it had been a lousy attempt at a joke.

"I... I... I'd luh-love to..." The crouched gentleman sputtered, looking as though he wasn't quite sure what he felt about this proposal- but he did honestly look eager to stay in her company. Newt never had made friends easily, and had grown very fond of the gecko girl.

She gave a small smile, the invite was just a friendly thing.. An attempt to find an excuse to know she wouldn't have to be alone again. She didn't want ot be alone... Not again. Not like she had been that near-week in the labs. She had never felt so alone and distraught before... Never... Her whole life she'd had people to fall back on. People to comfort her. And when that went missing for the first time it had snapped something in the young adult.

But those fearful thoughts aside now, he said he'd come back... Even if it was just for a single meal the reassurance that he'd be back was enough for her. And she gave the first smile that actually seemed to be real. "Thankyou..."

Newt's own elusive smile trembled onto his face, looking goofy with his flattened nose and silly toothy overbite. She wanted to be alone. It was fair enough. He felt a bit silly for having waited so long for her, but was relieved tos ee her alright regardless. "Y-you're wuh-welcome...." He stammered, quickly glancing down bashfully, "I'll... ah... s-see you for luh-lunch, then..."

She nodded, leading him to the door. "I will be looking foreward to it." While it may have been silly for him to have sat there waiting for her... It had meant the world to the girl. But now... she was ready to sleep, even revoking the thoughts of a well needed shower for curling into a ball under the blankets.

She breifly felt as though she should thank him again... but the fact she'd said it an uncountable number of times already prevented her from doing so.

And quietly, Newt gathered his tools, the bug-catcher installed and his task finished and he hopped to the door, "I'll... I'll... I'll s-see you th-then, then," He confirmed, giving her a nervious smile once again befor he let himself out.

Once he had hopped down the steps, he hurried towards his own duplex as quickly as he could.

Natsumi stepped out long enough to watch him leave, just to be polite and make sure he would make it out safely. While that seemed like an odd thought to her, the gecko in the back of her mind assured her they were all likely to be eaten.

But he was fine... and so she turned back to her room, shut and locked the door, and went straight towards her bed. She let herself fall into it, quickly whipping hte covers up over her head as her makeshift burrow, then promptly stuffing her face in her pillow as the will to cry overcame her again. She let out muffled sobs into the pillow, shifting every time the fabric absorbed too many tears, until her exhaustion overcame her and she drifted into a restless sleep.

.:The Yellow Brick Road:.
Part one: If I only had a brain...

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi had long ago gotten desperate for company... Her head was swirling with thoughts again. Depressed, guilt ridden thoughts... And fearful. The thought of being alone had wrapped itself around her mind so tight she just had to find someone... She had gone downstairs to Thom first. But he hadn't been there... It wasn't a big suprise, he was a very active sort of person. And it was getting later in the day... About lunch time.

But without Thom... She could only think of one other person. One person that used to offer her all kinds of sweet nothings and comforting hugs, kisses... And as petty as it felt, she desperatly wanted those back at the moment.

And now here she was, retracing what she remembered the last time she'd seen him... She had thought he'd come out of this duplex, number 53. But she wasn't sure... And her head was so muddled she could barely remember anything clearly. However as dumb luck would have it, she had the right one. She gave a timid knock on the front door, eyes already filled with tears again. One arm was wrapped around her all too flat stomach. "Taro...?"

Taro Hirohito
He'd just fallen into a light, uneasy doze when a knocking woke him up with a start. He looked around frantically for a moment, not recognizing the room and trying to figure out where he was.

Then he remembered.

He knew that soft, quivery voice anywhere. It was Natsumi on the other side. For a moment he wondered if he should open the door and see what she wanted, maybe she was here to beg him to forgive her on her knees. He'd graciously take her back only if she told him that what she'd said about there being a baby was a lie, like it was.

But why? Why should he? He wasn't really in a good mood, anyway, and even if she DID beg him did she really deserve him? Especially if she couldn't wait just a few weeks (or had it been a month?) for him to send her a postcard telling her where he was.

He found he'd already gotten up off his bed and was standing beside the door. He grimaced and clenched his fists. "What?" He snapped the word quickly and harshly.

Natsumi Tanaka
Her heart lept into her throat as his snapped voice came through from the other side of the door. She flinched some, tail twitching, taking a timid step backwards. Suddenlly she remembered why she hadn't wanted to see him... Her transformation was further along, and her child.. no. THEIR child was... dead.

A few tears spilled over and down her cheeks, she couldn't run away now though... So she steadied herself... "I... Aa... Can.. I talk to you?" That was the only thing she could think to say... While really it was more of a 'can you open the door and hug me?' She wouldn't dare say that. Her voice seemed tighter than the first time as she tried desperatly to hold back tears.

Taro Hirohito
Taro pressed his lips together, leaning slightly against the door. There was a long pause, or at least to Natsumi it might feel long, where he considered everything. Everything that had happened, everything she'd done to him. He felt a deep twinge of hurt in his chest, the muscles around his eyes and in his throat tightning. She hurt him more than she realized (or at least he'd thought she did).

Yes, she COULD talk to him, but he wasn't going to let her say much more than that.

He banged the side of his fist hard on the door, making it rattle on it's hinges slightly. "No. Go away, you slut. Go spread your legs for someone else, maybe that red guy this time, huh?"

He turned away, pressing his back against the wood and staring intently at the space of wall directly in front of him across the room. His heart raced in his chest, he'd said something incredibly harsh... but... he meant it. Every word.

Didn't he?

Natsumi Tanaka
It seemed all too long... Her mind begged for him to just let her in. And then.. he spoke.

She felt something crunch, crack.. shatter possibly. Her mouth fell open. Slut? She felt her blood run cold as the words sunk in... She.. she wasn't... He had said. He said he'd marry her, he said he'd love her forever... He said... He said she was a slut.

She let out a heartbroken squeak, trying even harder not to burst into tears. So.. that's what he really thought. So.. everyone was right. He'd just been lieing. She took a few steps backwards, biting into her lip as tears dripped down her cheeks.

She felt maybe she should say something, but it felt like her mind had stopped... So, she simply turn and ran. Ran as fast as her legs could carry her back towards her duplex.

.:The Yellow Brick Road:.
Part two: I don't think we're in kansas anymore, ThomThom

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi had a bit ago stopped her full out run away from the new area of duplexes. Her face was red and stained with tears from the bit of crying that had excaped her... Her breath was heavy, having lost it in the mixture of running and sobbing. She'd felt like crying as it was before finding out the one guy she loved thought she was a slut.
And she still wasn't sure what to think about that. It both crushed and enfuriated her. He HAD promised... HE was the one that talked her into it, didn't that make him the slut? Or... whatever the word for men was.

Despite that, it was the word she'd been fearing the whole time she was pregnant... This wasn't right at all. None of it! She was supposed to be in America, translating anything other than hentai, have a husband and be well on the way to having a healthy child. But no. She was a slutty, childless, lizard.

Another sob slipped past her lips as she turned on the last path back to her duplex. Almost there... Her arms wrapped around her all too empty abdomen.

Thomas Brinley
Thom was on his way back to his own duplex after his encounter in the village with Zach. Surprisingly, or perhaps not so considering he had come out ahead, he was in an excellent mood, even chuckling softly to himself as he crutched along, the flattened top hat set upon his head. He was nearly to the duplex now, on his way indoors for a cool nap while the sun was highest before escaping to the beach for a few hours later that afternoon.

However, he fell silent at the sound of someone approaching, but only quickened his pace when he recognized Natsumi coming from the opposite direction, heading for the same destination. Not that 'quickened' meant much when one leg was toe-less, one was a crutch, and he was dragging a heavy tail behind himself. "Natsumi! Wait f'me at th' stairs!"

Natsumi Tanaka
She slowed as she got closer to the safe haven of her home, however a voice stopped her. A familiar one. She felt a wave of comfort just from hearing it... Thomas protected her. And her childish hurt mind decided he would fix everything... Like the times of her childhood when her brothers would fix a scraped knee or something of the sort.

She automatically spun around, various changes would soon become noticable.. Her large webbed feet for one. But the biggest change was the missing sweater and flat stomach. She waited for him as he said, attempting to whipe away the tears on her face only to have them be replaced by a few more.

Thomas Brinley
He flashed a grin when she paused to wait for him, though the look quickly faded as he neared enough to notice the changes. Mind, the first difference was the red of her eyes and the few stray tears, which on their own were enough to worry him, but a second, more thorough inspection quickly revealed the further visible changes, including her flattened stomach.

He paused in step a short distance away, completely at a loss for how to react or what to say. Finally, sighing, he gestured her towards his own door, crutching the rest of the way towards her. He looped his free arm around her shoulders, drawing her into a brief hug, then steered her towards the door. "C'mon, inside. ...A lot's happened since I've last seen you, I'd imagine?"

Natsumi Tanaka
She waited, fidgeting, sniffling, and even giving a soft sob here and there while he took the long trek towards her. She bit into her lip and locked her eyes to the ground when he paused... but soon enough he was at her side giving her a half a hug and inviting her into his duplex.

Part of her was releived and reassured... Another part, int eh back of her mind, was mildly spooked. She had felt her heartrate increase as he neared her, and only more now when his arm came around her. She had no idea why, but it felt like he was going to attack her...

Her human mind recycled that as verbal attacking, like Taro recently, and attempted to shove the thought away. And as she stepped into the duplex with him, she started talking... feeling unable to stop it as the days, or weeks, stresses started pouring out of her mouth.

Starting with the earliest. "He called me a.. a.." Her mind failed at a translation for the exact word Taro had used... She never thought she'd need to use the word slut. "Darashinai Onna." She frowned, knowing Thom wouldn't understand she tried to continue as the tears started foreward again, though mildly considering all the crying she'd been doing lately. Who knew one insult could hurt so much? "A woman that is... loose?" somehow that didn't seem to fit just right. But she hardly cared right now. "I am not." She stated pitifully, before going back even further on the day. Back to the reason why she had even left her duplex... To try and distract herself from reality again with the company and comfort of a friend...

The next thought seemed to break the emotional dam again, while she'd started crying over the last one she started bawling now. Turning to latch herself on the comforting body next to her in a hug, burrying her face in his shoulder. "It--was su--supo--possed to--be--in--december..." she tried to explain muffled and broken through sobs.

Her head was spinning with thoughts again. Taro's words, the baby... was it really better this way? Or had she just destroyed a potential life like her mind kept telling her? And a mixed feeling of not wanting to be out of Thom's comfort... but something in the back of her mind fearing being so close to him. It was all so overwhelming.

Thomas Brinley
He guided her inside, pausing just long enough to close the door behind them before continuing towards the bed. Releasing her, he sunk down on the edge and propped the crutch against the bed at his side, patting the space beside himself for her to join him ever as she began speaking.

Thom listened in silence while she explained, frown deepening to one of anger at her tale. He? Who was 'he'? Though she hadn't said, he had a good idea, especially when Japanese words were her explanation of the derogatory term 'he' had used. Making a mental note to have a talk with this 'he', he began to reassure her when the story grew worse.

And then Natsumi was sobbing and hugging him and whimpering something about December, and Thom was completely at a loss for how to correctly respond in such a situation. Somewhat awkwardly he returned the hug, heart sinking into his stomach. So he had guessed correctly: She had lost the baby. Sighing once more, he made himself relax and attempted to organize his thoughts. Meanwhile, he allowed her simply to cry, offering some comfort by rubbing her back or petting her hair, or so on and so forth.

Finally, when her sobs seemed to be fading, he gently pried her away enough to glance down at her, offering a weak smile. "Firstly, we both know whatsisface is in denial, far from mature, and quite likely lashin' out at people for bein' stuck on this damned island. We also know that you, Natsumi, are most certainly not, ah.. that d word that I would certainly mangle if I dared attempt. Chin up, don't let him get t' you, alright? He'll realize his mistake in time." Meaning, as soon as Thom got in trouch with him.

"Secondly," but he hesitated. What could be said? Was there anything that could be said? Thom had never known a woman who had miscarried before the island. He had never known a woman who had been pregnant period, excluding perhaps his aunt when he was younger. Life had just worked out that way. And now this? "...All I can say is I'm sorry. I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sorry you 'ave t' go through this... I suppose th' best you can do is be grateful th' child does not 'ave to as well."

Natsumi Tanaka
Her crying died down as he simply held her, offering comforting touches and the like. She could have stayed there forever... Or atleast it had felt that way. It was a tad less awkward than hugging Newt... Thom just felt more.. confidant about the whole issue. But it wasn't hard to beat Newt at confidance... That and she hadn't been ribbited at this time, amusing as it was.

She wasn't really thinking about that though, her mind was still trying to figure out those thoughts that were fighting for dominance of her brain. That was broken when he pulled her away from him, to which she went easily giving a small sniffle. She listened almost questly, a little sniffle or squeak here and there... Thom was right though. Taro was anything but mature, and he was quite prone to lashing out at people... Of course it had never been her before. Not like that anyways.

Her lip trembled at the second part, not breaking eyecontact as she waited... What came wasn't nearly as harmful as her doubtful mind had expected. "S..So... You think..." She made another squeak as she tried to hold back her tears long enough to actually say something. "It is better? Maybe?" She continued to frown... however a bit of hopefulness shown through all that at the idea that the child was better off away from this place. It had been the only thought that had kept her atleast a little bit sane through her time in the labs, and hearing it from another person made it seem all that more reasonable.

Thomas Brinley
Again he hesitated, carefully considering his words before speaking. "I would never...say that it is good that you lost th' baby, Natsumi. But this island... The island can be dangerous even for the adults 'ere. Better this than somethin' more painful later on, right..? Or bein' taken by th' labs?" It was a hard argument to make, a rough subject to talk about at all, but it was the best he could do. It wasn't Natsumi's fault the child had died, nor did he want her lamenting over what might have been and longer than absolutely necessary. The island was no place for a baby, but it was still a hard loss to bear.

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi nodded... It made sense. Which helped, her mind felt so muddled she couldn't think clearly anymore. Her eyes breifly trailed over the black forboding scales... For some reasonthey kept jumping otue very time she looked at them. She knew she had been uncomfortable about hte whole snake thing but.. it hadn't been this bad before had it?

Eventually her eyes ended up back on the bed they were sitting on, giving another sniff before pulling her hand away from Thom to whipe at her eyes again, noting just how horrible she probably looked from the "busy" day she'd had. "Thankyou..." she quickly added in as she fussed, seeming to have stopped crying for the most part by now.

.:The Yellow Brick Road:.
Part three: The cowardly li-...er... frog?

Newton Filinas
Meanwhile, Newt had spent the entire morning slaving away as he used that misused brain of his to come up with a rather exciting picnic lunch he packed in a basket he had borrowed form the cafeteria. Dragging it behind him as he hopped, it was rather difficult to catch himself in a landing with the large burden of their meal. Enough that by the time he had reached Natsumi's duplex, he had tripped over his own feet and tumbled into the downstairs entrance's door in a heap of froggish limbs and basket.

He was wearing his cleanest jumper that day on top of the nicest outfit Aubrey had given him, including the white suit shirt and black tie, the jumper unbuttoned just enough to see the collar. What was left of his hair was combed in a mad attempt to tame it, which left it looking greasy and plastered to his head, but at least tidier than usual. He had also collected a half decayed boquette of long stemmed fruit covered in maggots and beatles he had prepaired as a boquet. This lay scattered about his chest and the front step as he landed.

Thomas Brinley
Thom managed a smile when his words seemed to have some positive effect, at least, and allowed himself to relax once more. Good. That was over. Natsumi wasn't happy, persay, but she would be alright. "Mn. Glad I could help," he assured her, giving her a comforting pat on the shoulder.

And then there was a loud thud outside his door, and Thom looked over, briefly losing interest in the woman. That hadn't been a knock. What was going on? His thoughts immediately went to the recently passed meeting with Zach and his smile faded, eyes narrowing and hood flaring a fraction simply out of caution. Without a second thought, he retrieved his crutch and climbed to his feet, making his way over to the door. He cracked it, peeking out before pulling it open completely at the sight of the crumpled frog-man--in the same motion, opening the way for a clear sight of Natsumi perched on his bed, and vice versa. Thom quirked a brow, relaxing somewhat, though his frown remained. "Problem?"

Natsumi Tanaka
The reassuring peaceful moment was abruptly interupted by a loud thump against the door. It didn't sound like a knock... But... Hopefully no one was hurt.
And hopefully it wasn't Taro... it didn't take a genious to figure out he hadn't taken to Thom, and if Thom was right-Which Natsumi was sure he was, God only knew what Taro'd think about doing just to let off steam.

Natsumi tensed visably as the hood flared out, while something did reason the hood flare wasn't exactly made for eating her... It just reminded that gecko in her mind all the more what the Cobra-man was capable of. Though that didn't turn into cohernt thoughts, and just left the Japanese woman confused as to why her heart was in her throat and she was thinking about ducking under Thom's covers.

She distracted herself with following Thom's movements to the door, letting out a sigh of releif when it wasn't someone dangerous... But harmless little Newton. Upon reconizing that, she moved up off the bed, following Thom's tracks to the door to offer Newton a slightly teary-eyed smile. "Are you alright...?"

Newton Filinas
Newt caught a glimpse of Natsumi for a breif, blessed moment befor the frog spotted the snake, and instinct kicked in, the man scrambling backward in horror, his throat puffing out as he tried to make himself look bigger. "Ah! Aaah! Ah duh-don't... d-don't!" He managed, scrambling back away from him in terror and finally tripped over his own basket.

Thomas Brinley
Now really, he wasn't that terrifying! Thom's frown deepened, hood angrily flaring to its full extent, which really wasn't much further. Briefly, the cobra piped up in his head, recognizing the floundering creature as food--and an easy catch at that, judging by it's state. However, Thom shoved the thoughts aside on the grounds that he couldn't possibly eat something the side of a human and that Natsumi seemed to know this frog man.

Ah, Natsumi knew him. Scowling, Thom backed away a few paces, then turned and stormed back towards the bed--as much as one can storm with a crutch--waving Natsumi further out. "You know 'im, you deal with 'im. I'm not goin' to eat 'im, ruddy idiot..." Mumblemumble.

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi's eyes widened as Newton promptly fell back. She wasn't sure who to feel sorry for in that moment, Thomas for invoking such a fearful reaction.. Or Newton for being so afraid.

She shifted awkwardly, moving out of Thom's way as he retreated back into the duplex... her heart had picked up a bit more when his flare came out, but it was mostly ignored since he wasn't focused on her but some other prey object.

Eat him? Had Newton even claimed that he was going to eat him? And more importantly... why on earth would Thomas eat Newton? Either way... she took a step out of the door.. All the action and excitment ridding whatever was left of her thoughts from earlier. "Newton?" She questioned to the man on the ground. "Are you alright?" she repeated her earlier question.

Newton Filinas
"Mah-mah-mah-miss Natsumi!" Newt managed to squeak, giving a sudden loud croak, his throat inflating again at the sight of her, leaving him looking rather embarassed once again befor continueing to babble, "Wuh-wuh-wuh-what are... are y-you... th-there's a snuh-snuh-sn-sn-snoo... There's a snuh-ssss-snuh...!"

Thomas Brinley
Clearly sarcasm evaded Natsumi. Mind, Thom was only half sarcastic. He hadn't a doubt in his mind that the frog man was scared of becoming dinner, especially after the snake in his head had suggested the same thing. But while he had lashed out at, say, Emelyn's dog, or tried to swallow the hamburger chunk without thinking, he was still quite human enough to know that Newt was absolutely impossible as dinner, and therefore of no interest to him.

Indeed, he was quickly growing irritated with the entire situation. It was bad enough that someone was utterly terrified of him on sight--even worse when said person was sitting in a heap outside his door and stuttering his head off. He never even made it to the bed before he turned around and headed back to the door, pausing just behind Natsumi and leering over her shoulder at the frog man. "A snake?"

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi had never quite caught on to english sarcasm. It wasn't that she was just completely dense... Get her talking in Japanese and she might pull out the same sorts of jokes, however with the moment they were in she had lost most sensible reasoning. She was near tears for the most part, and Newton had started floundering on the ground... her head was spinning again. So, first task... Calm Newton down.

Then Thomas was back... behind her, causing a light chill to run down her spine. "Aa.." She quickly piped in, not wanting Newton to somehow offend Thomas. That was ignoring the fact he probably already had. "Newton, this is Thomas." She gestured back behind her, giving a light sniff as she introduced them... Maybe that would stop the whole 'ahh its a snake' thing?

Newton Filinas
"Ah... ah..." Newt glanced back and forth between the little gecko girl and the disgrunteled snake man, and his stomach fell. Not ebcause instinct told him that this man wanted to eat him, but that he had inadvertantly stumbled upon Natsumi and.... another man. His throat suddenly bulged out, inflated as wide as he could manage without suffocating himself befor giving a startlingly loud croak as though the frog in him was trying to scare the other potential mate away.

The Newt in him was far easier to thwart, "I... I... I huh-hadn't... excuse me... " He appologized for his croak, looking terrified and embarassed. He hadn't been aware that she- had a boyfriend... well, of course... she had been pregnant. She had to have had a partner.... was it this man? Was it someone befor the island? Either way, Newt was suddenly sickeningly embarassed, and tried to pick up his basket and collect the "boquet" he had brought for her befor either of them could spot them. He suddenly wished he hadn't gone to so much trouble to try to look nice either- it would only make matters worse if this "Thomas" was the jealous type.

Thomas Brinley
Thom couldn't honestly say it was a pleasure to meet the frog man, and so he didn't, simply nodding a greeting when Natsumi introduced him. Newton, Newton... He couldn't remember her mentioning a 'Newton'. Of course, on the same note, the only people she had mentioned had been the ones who terrified or upset her, so it was no surprise. This man seemed nice enough, if, well, terribly irritating. Natsumi was a much more patient person than he was, and the frog man wasn't scared of her, so it made sense that she could befriend him. Thom was just glad that Newt wasn't freaking out anymore.

And yet the stuttering continued, and the frog man was scrambling around once more. Thom was very tempted to just go hide in his duplex and let them talk. Even moreso when he noticed the maggot 'boquet' and nice clothes beneath the jumpsuit. Really, he was hard pressed not to laugh at the sight once two and two registered. However, for Natsumi's benefit, he settled for a grin, glancing down to the gecko girl and nudging her with his elbow. "Why Nasumi, I'm shocked. 'Ere you've been cheatin' on me all this time."

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi, on the other hand, apparently wasn't good at math. It wasn't that she hadn't noticed how nervious he was... It was just that he was always nervious. In fact, this reaction reminded her a bit of the first time she'd met Newton... Except he'd been shoving on a gas mask then and wasn't quite this green and slimey.

Now that he seemed to compose himself she noticed the various objects he had, her nostrils catching the oh so fonderful scent of rotting food... it reminded the rest of her brain that there were other things that would have been on such a smelly thing, which in turned caused a little growl from her stomach, reminding her she hadn't eaten yet. Then she remembered something... "Aa! Lunch...!" her smile widened on the simple fact he had remembered and apparently gone through alot of trouble... Originally she had meant they could get something from the cafeteria, or eat some of the bugs she'd caught in that wierd thing he gave her. Either way, this was a nice turn to a day that had started out rather rough...

She jumped some as she was nudged, turning back to look at Thom in a rather confused manor. Crap... She missed something. What he said hadn't made any sense to her at all... Her mind tried to turn the gears and place what cheating meant in this situation. Was he talkign about football? That was the only game she'd ever played with him... And why would that come up now? So that definatly wasn't right.

Still she wasn't getting anywhere with that thought process... Which left her staring at Thom lost and confused, before finally giving a soft "Eh?" as she figured she wasn't going to get this one.

Newton Filinas
"Chuh-chuh-chuh-cheat?" Newt's voice cracked pubescently as his expression fell. If he had been able, he woudl have been a bright scarlet as he dropped the buggy boguet again, hugging the basket to his chest, "I... I... I... I'm suh-sorry... I... I... I had... I wuh-was j-just... I'll... " He placed it down, turning to suddenly hop away in utter embarassment. She had a boyfriend!! How stupid was he? Stupid stupid stupid Newt!

Thomas Brinley
Well, that had completely backfired. Thom raised a hand to rub his temple, shaking his head slightly in dismay. And then Newt was off and, rather than risk ruining Natsumi's stay on the island permanently, Thom was around the gecko girl and crutching after him. Between Newt's ungainly hops and his own strange gait, they were quite a sight--but it also meant Thom didn't have much trouble catching up.

Once he neared, he reached out and caught Newt's arm with his right hand, laughing to keep the frog man from spazzing out again. "I was jokin', lad. Natsumi's just 'ad a rough day, an' I was cheerin' her up. Go pick up your bunch of maggots." Not that he could understand for the life of him why someone would give someone they liked maggots.

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi blinked as the reinvented boquet hit the ground, poor thing was taking quite a beating. She hadn't quiet figured out what it was supposed to be yet... But before she could think about it Newt was suddenlly leaving and she had no idea why. "Wai--" she barely managed the start of the word before Thom had moved after him. Yep.. she was lost. The metaphorical fog of the language barrier had settled in on her... So she simply stood there, confused. But atleast she'd forgotten all about crying nad the like...

As Thomas caught Newton she thought about following after just to keep that paniced frog thing from happening again. Her eyes were caught by a wiggling along the ground where the little maggots had fallen from their precious food. Her tail shifted as she found herself staring... And then, before she knew it, instinct and hunger had driven her to kneel down to pick up a few of them, place them in her palm, and proceed to tilt her head back and drop them in her mouth as though they were candy.

Newton Filinas
"I duh-duh-duh-didn't muh-mean any harm!" Newt cried, "I wuh-was j-just... I d-duh-didn't know! I'msuh-sorry!" The janitor squeeked, trying to pull away in his panic.

Thomas Brinley
"Calm down," Thom ordered, growing impatient once more. He kept a tight hold on Newt's arm with his right hand, but he half turned to shout over at the gecko girl. "Natsumi! Kindly explain t' your friend that you an' I are not in a relationship."

Natsumi Tanaka
She was snapped out of her little instinct driven maggot feast by Thom's irritated voice. She nearly fell over as she jumped up and away from the bugs in a guilty fasion... "Relationship?" She echoed, the gears turning... Her face flushed amongst the already reddish scales. "Eehh?" she squeaked out, covering her mouth to prevent any further noises.

Suddenlly, she realized just how wrong it looked to have been setting on Thomas' bed in his duplex... However, the thought of that just seemed... Wierd. "No, no.." she shook her head to further that answere. "Thomas is my friend." she emphisized the word to make sure he knew that meant nothing more... Even if she had been on his bed. Several times. And he was attractive in a sort... It didn't seem right though, it was like someone suggesting she was with Haruko or Jiro.

She started weaving her way around the fallen boquet, not wanting to squish any potential meal bits, and starting towards the two. "Why?" she asked a bit softly, wondering where on earth that had come in.

Newton Filinas
Newt glanced up from where he hung from Thom's grip, his previously neatly groomed hair springing free from it's gelatinous prison to curl in it's thinned out but still maddened sloppy state. His tie had come loose from his jumper to hang free, and he was dirty as ever from his hopping, "Ah- fruh-fruh-friends?" He suddenly felt rediculous, embarassment burning on his froggish cheaks as much as a frog *could* blush. "I... I... I ah... I... Oooh."

Thomas Brinley
With Newt actually calm and listening, Thom released the frog man, rolling his eyes at the whole spectacle. Deciding things would go much better if he just left them to their own conversation, he turned his attention to the approaching Natsumi. "I'll leave you two t' chat, then. Where's whatsisface's duplex, Natsumi? Taro?"

Natsumi Tanaka
She let the why drop, assuming she had asked it too softly... Her mind tried to taunt her with the fact someone might be interested in her, but she pushed that away. Who would after all these lizardy-changes? And especially since she'd been pregnant... That fact alone made her feel like she didn't deserve to have another love-intrest.

She pushed those thoughts aside for the time being, "Aa... Alright... Taro? 53.." she answered before fully thinking about why Thom would need that. She turned back to Newton, offering a small smile... "Aa... We will have our lunch, then?" Hm. What an eventful exciting day...

Newton Filinas
Newt stared down at his webbed feet wide-eyed, his heart racing. The snake man Thomas wouldn't come back to beat him up, would he? "I... I... I'll j-just... I j-just... um..." He swallowed, trying to calm himself further so he could speak again. "I'm s-sorry... I... I... had th-thought..." He suddenly reached up, trying to flatten his hair again and straighten his tie to make himself more presentable. "I... ah... th-thought w-we could go for a puh-puh-picnic..."

Thomas Brinley
53. Good, not far. He nodded, bid them goodbye with a wave, then started away with his crutch to have a little chat of his own with Taro.

.:The Yellow Brick Road:.
Part Four

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi blinked, not sure if she wanted Thom to go.. and just now placing the fact he was leaving with the fact he had asked for Taro's duplex number. For a breif moment she thought about stopping that... Instead, her mind bitterly argued that if Thom was planning anything.. he deserved it. He had hurt her more than he realized, perhaps more than she had realized.

So she ignored that... Deciding to pretend she had no idea where Thom might be going.

"Picnic?" Atleast she knew that word. "That would be wonderful." she offered another smile... This day was turning around quite nicely, and the idea of being outside in the warm sunshine was welcomed by the gecko in her.

Newton Filinas
"I... I muh-made a luh-lunch..." He motioned to wher ehe had left the half spilled basket back by her maggot boquet.

Natsumi Tanaka
She followed his motion back to the rather thrown about mess of food, starting over towards it. "Thankyou, you should not have gone through the trouble..." she noted polietely, as she reached the remaining food... Carefully, she knelt down next to the mess, starting to retreive the insects the best she could and trying not to pick up too much dirt and grime on their picnic meal. But seeing as they were bugs there wasn't too much more dirt and grime they could pick up that wasn't already there, so it wasn't too hard a task.

Newton Filinas
"I... wa-wanted to sup-suprise you..." he murmured weakly, looking flustered and embarrassed.

Natsumi Tanaka
She found herself becoming very careful with his scattered creation... It was so sweet of him to try so hard, though she wasn't sure why he would... Whatever the reason though it made her fairly happy. It was nice that someone cared about her... More than one someone. Both Newton and Thomas cared... And didn't think poorly of her. Even if Taro's words still stung fresh in her mind this was working well for a metaphorical bandaid.

"You did." she reassured, settling some of the food she'd gathered back in the basket. "I think... it is still good, yes?" she shifted to peer back at her friend, gesturing to the recovered basket of food.

While she was still smiling, tears threatened at the edge of her eyes... Despite how happy she tried to act.

Newton Filinas
He was still hopping towards her when he caught sight of the tears, his thick brows raising over his enormous eyes, "Aaah... ah... d-duh-don't c-cruh-cry! D-don't cry! I'm suh-sorry for whatever I d-did j-just-" He frnatically murmured, reaching to take her hand.

Natsumi Tanaka
She jumped a bit, trying to keep up her smile. "No..." she quickly tried to reassurehim as he grabbed up the blame for it, using her free hand to whipe at her eyes before any could spill over. "Not you."

Newton Filinas
He frowned at that, glancing up at her in concern, "Is... is... is everything alright? C-can... I wuh-want to help... m-may I help?"

Natsumi Tanaka
She stayed quiet a moment, keep strong... don't cry again... It was so very unladylike in a way... To sob so loudly like she'd been doing lately. Childish.

Still, she'd felt like crying ever since that fateful saterday. Taro had only made everything worse. Instead of dwelling on that though, she tried to replay what reassurance Thomas had given her before Newton arrived. And after taking a moment to compose herself, she shook her head. "I have just had a bad week..." she gave a soft chuckle to what seemed like the understatement of the century.

Feeling it was time for a subject change, she picked up the basket and moved it towards him again. "Is it alright? The picnic...?" She gave another fuss over her eyes, and then to her hair some. It was a breif pat down of the strands that had gone stray in all the commotion, making sure they covered her lack of visible ears.

Newton Filinas
"I... I h-hope so..." He smiled weakly, "Ah... ah w-we can... can eat whereever you'd like..." He just wanted her to have a pleasent time. He was frantic to help after seeing what he had seen.

Natsumi Tanaka
Unknowingly, she had tucked the maggoty-boquet inside the basket, initially mistaking it for just another peice of their meal. And with a light smile, she pushed herself to stand, shifting her stance to find something comfortable with her large awkward feet-Though the act was second nature by now. The basket in her hands now, to keep himf rom having to carry it in the awkward way he had to.

Eagerly accepting the distraction she gave a mild thoughtful look... Picnics had to be set in nice spots, thats how they worked... and preferably somewhere sunny. "Aa... The beach? Maybe?" she felt awkward chosing the spot... But she was rather hungry, and somehow felt she wouldn't get to their food fast enough if she fought chosing a place.

Newton Filinas
He beamed at her, pleased with the turn around of his success rate with this endevour. Things were going well! "Ah... W-well, then... after, after, after you!" His mouth twitched as he held it in it's smile, as though he weren't used to having it on for so long.

Natsumi Tanaka
She turned towards the familiar path down to the beach.. She loved the sand and warmth of it all. Not to mention the lovely view of water...

She stopped as the path ended, moving towards a nice shadey spot. While she had no idea amphibians needed wet skin... she did realize he was wearing several layers of clothing in the middle of the day, and as such assumed he'd rather be in the shade.

She settled herself in her normal fasion of sitting, placing the basket in what would now be the middle of their sandy table. Her tail shifted int he sand, finding a way to streach itself out of their shade to pick up some sun. With that... she clasped her hands together giving a light bow of her head in respect to all the trouble he had put into the meal. "Itadakimasu." Normally, she'd keep that in her head... however since he had made this meal she felt it only right to give thanks for it.

Newton Filinas
"Ah... it wuh-was n-nothing... ah... nuh-nuh-nothing, really..." He floundered, mistaking her prayer for praise for himself. He gave a sudden squeak as his neck pouch worked on it's own again, suddenly inflating enourmously once again to emit a loud KRRKIT! Befor he could stop it. His heart was racing, his head dizzy... It couldn't have just been the hop over here- it was something more. Clumsily, he dove forward to try to serve them up, pretending the emerisingly loud croak was just an accident- which i twas, of course! He didn't know what had gotten into him!

Natsumi Tanaka
The fact she had said it aloud was a sort of praise to him... She'd been growing more accustomed to the American fasions that predominated on the island... Forgotten to say thanks in her head a few times even.

The croak had caught her off guard, but she ignored it... While she had no guess as to why he did them, nor did the gecko, it hardly mattered as long as he was okay... And since he was ignoring it, she would too. Simply smiling and letting him serve the meal. She drifted her eyes out to the ocean, flinching some at the sudden bright light and finding herself blinking more than she would have needed to before.

Newton Filinas
Once he opened the baskett, he spotted his magotty boquet, lifting it out gingerly with an emabrassed look befor timidly offering it out to her with as charming a smile as he felt was possible on a puss like his. The human in him recognized the human in her, and the frog in him knew what to do when around potential females. Instinct kicked in, overpowering his sences as suddenly the croaking started and wouldn't stop. KrrKITKrrKITkrrKIT! it was a good six or seven times befor they stopped, his neck aching from stretching out so many times in a row. "Ah! Ah- I'm suh... I suuuh..." He swallowed, hands trembling.

Natsumi Tanaka
Turning her attention back to him, she blinked a few more times, taking the boquet that was offered to her. Click click... The gears turned some, peices started falling together. The bit with explaining why she wasn't with Thomas...

She was on a date.

She suddenlly felt incredibly self consious, with teh boquet in one hand the other brushing ove rher hair a few times. She certiantly hadn't been dressed up for a date... She would have worn something nicer, and done her hair better... And cleaned up her face. Breifly, the thought of 'what about Taro?' poped into her head. Only to be retaliated with What about him? He obviously didn't care for her... There was nothing stopping her from going on dates..

All thoughts were stopped as another ribbit emitted, and then another... and another... Her eyes widened as a mass of the strange noises started forth from the poor man, whom didn't eactly look happy about it.

She swallowed as it seemed to stop, "Are you alirght?" She seemed a tad worried... That certiantly wasn't normal.

Newton Filinas
"Ah... ah... f-fine..." He squeaked weakly, his voice cracking as he cleared his throat. His sacks inflated again, though, as another series of croaks emerged forth, about six in a row. He could identify the gecko girl as a female, and the frog part of his brain wanted her to notice him, and could only do that in one way. By the time he had caught his breath from the second, a third mating call croaked forth befor he finally managed to purse his lips and hold it in. His eyes bugged out of his head as his throat inflated and stayed that way, his hands keeping his knees pointedly together to stop any horribly ill-timed embarassment from occuring.

Natsumi Tanaka
Her eyes seemed to widen further as more came.. and more... Her mind raced as she tried to think of how to help him stop whatever that was...

Well, she had noticed him, though not in the way the frog had probably wanted. She was more worried he was dieing from something. Maybe he was choking like the first time she had met him? No no.. he said he was fine...

Without much else she could do, she scooted foreward no more than an inch or so, frowning in concern. "Are you positive you are alright?"
Newton Filinas
He nodded pointedly, still holding his breath as his neck sacks wavered with what they still had trapped inside. Just... don't... move.... He squeezed his kegs together tighter, his face paling slightly.

Natsumi Tanaka
She continued to frown, not quite beleiving him... He looked almost pained. But she wasn't one to try and push something. So she settled back, shifting the boquet carefully. She didn't want it to get harmed further than it had in Newt's panicing earlier. "Thankyou." she noted, shifting the boquet as she did so to bring notice to what she was thanking hin for. Something she'd been meaning to say before the frog-hiccups had started.

Newton Filinas
Finally, he had to let go of his breath in a long, wavering sigh, the color returning to his face, "Aah... ah..." He swallowed. The croaking seemed to have stopped for just then. He'd have to call the labs- he'd have to go find Aubrey! what if something was wrong with him? "It... it wuh-wasn't anything... anything spuh-spuh-special..." He managed, trembling slightly.

Natsumi Tanaka
She watched him intently, mentally fretting over his general well being and what could possibly be wrong... But she couldn't think of anything. She'd heard frogs make that noise... And he was a frog, but why now?

She quickly brushed those thoughts away into the closet in her mind, saving them among other things for later. For when she had time to think, unlike now in which she had been stuck in a fairly ongoing mass of chaos since Newton had arrived. She felt sorry for him for that... If he'd had so much trouble with her of all people just think how much trouble he must have had with everyone else... Again, thoughts for later.

She offered a hesitant reassuring smile as he seemed to lose the ribbits as fast as he had obtained them. Back to the date... "No, it is special..." She tried to reassure, god knows how long it had taken to make such a strange thing. And the thought he must have put into it...
Her thoughts began rushing again. it was amazing just how fast ones thoughts could change like that on such a simple little fact. One, did she actualyl like him that way? She wasn't sure yet... But then agian thats what dates were for weren't they? Learning about the person. But moreso was the strong thought of how she was behaiving... Was she being formal enough? Her mind was tracking over all of the things she shouldn't have done. All the impropor things... And she hadn't even refused to chose where they went! She should have at least protested that he should chose once.

She ended up staying silent other than the smile and her single sentance as her brain spun in circles... She felt her heart try and sink some as another thoguht continued from the path her mind was going. He must think of her as a horrible woman...

Newton Filinas
He floundered, another croak forcing it's way up through his system, "Luh-like... like hic-hic-hiccups," He gave a nervious, lopsided smile befor returning his attention to their basket, "I... I re-re-remembered... you luh-liked pruh-pretending it wuh-was just nor-normal food and... um... so I m-made th-this one pie, b-be carefull, there's cen-centapedes inside I c-caught b-by the river and a whuh-whole slooth of m-my be-best beatles to muh-make the sandwiches- at least for the cruh-crunch, then there's wuh-worm suh-sausages and... ah... KrrrKIT! Oh, th-there it was again..."

Natsumi Tanaka
Her original thoughts became muddled as he spoke...It took most of her concentration to keep up with his english, due to the stutter and ever so slight accent. They continued to try and come back in a more subtle form, like was she sitting right? Or was the wind blowing her hair into a mess?

Thoughts still going, she gave a quick brush of her hair with her free hand. Smile tugging wider as she looked over the display of bug-foods made to look like real food... He acctually remembered that? Another action from the stuttering frog man that struck her as sweet. He seemed to be doing that alot... It ws very refreshing, especially after the earlier incident with Taro... That still made her heart clench.

"It looks wonderful..." she awed at the various recreations.. Though a little tattered from the earlier... whatever you call it, they were still reconizable as the foods they were supposed to be. The word sausages made her mind pop back to her first conversation with Alec...

Another "hiccup."

She smiled reassuringly again, hiccups were okay... Stupid things. She always got so embaressed when she got them. "Thankyou... You have worked hard..."

Newton Filinas
Newt shifted, sitting back with his knees up around his shoulders as he fidgeted with his great, froggish feet, "KrrKIT! Ahh... puh-pardon... um... KrrKIT! I ah... aHEM... wuh-wanted to... to ch-chuh-cheer you up... er... had hoped to- krrKIT!"

Natsumi Tanaka
Poor guy and his frog hiccups... Did that mean normal frogs were having hiccups all thsi time? It was a fleeting thought as she moved to get the first bit of food, eager to dig in... However she made sure to do so slowly to try and earn her bit of respect back. She was a woman, an adult... She had to be much more formal than she had been. And no more crying. Though she was pleased to have had the urge dissapere some with the picnic Newton had brought.

After a polite pause, she took a small bite out of one of the sandwitches. It seemed like a good place to start as far as she knew. Chew slowly... Swalow. Say something nice. "Thankyou. It is good." She started, pausing awkwardly "And.. you did. Cheer me... That is." Another bite.

Newton Filinas
He glanced up, eyebrows raised hopefully, "Really? Is.. is it any good? Try the suh-suh-suh-sausages- I actually...a h... t-tuh-took the suh-sausage tuh-tube... er...wh-whatever it's called from the caf-caf-cafeteria and muh-m-muh-made these special..." He urged. On it's bun, the sausage in question wriggled ever so slightly. The worms inside were still alive. "krrKIT!"

Natsumi Tanaka
She gave a nod, her mouth was full so she couldn't speak, and a nod would suffice to answere both anyways. She swallowed, carefulyl setting the partly eaten sandwitch on one knee, careful to try and keep the sand off it, then take one of the sausages to try.

The movement breifly disturbed the remainder of her human mind... But normal food had made her so nausious lately that she had been sticking to a stricter diet of the bugs caught thanks to Newton's invention. And the occassional shellfish she could nab from the cafeteria... She could stomach those fairly well.
So without much hesitation she took a careful bite, drawing a hand up under her mouth as she felt it try and squish some. Luckally nothing spilled over, and she gave him a small nod as she chewed this one too, pointing to another sausage and then to him, urging him to eat as well. It felt a tad bold, but she felt silly being the only one eating.

Newton Filinas
"Ah- KrrKIT!" He swallowed befor glancing down at his own creation and then suddenly put together one for himself, "Ah... y-yes, s-sorry, I'd fuh-forget to eat if... if puh-people d-duh-didn't remind me... although... n-now I sup-suppose the fuh-food itself is a re-reminder s-since... since it c-comes with it's own buzzer, r-right?" He laughed weakly at his own joke.

Natsumi Tanaka
She listened as she chewed, not eating unless you were reminded seemed a bit... Odd. And not good for him.

She swallowed, blinking at the laugh. That meant it was a joke... She gave a soft chuckle in responce as she thought. Bugs.. buzzer. It took a moment or two before it cliked, and releif and realization replaced that vaugly awkward look. And she gave a more geniune giggle, covering her mouth with a few fingers as she did so. Normally she didn't get puns in english, it felt good to finally catch one.

"I guess so." she added smiling still from the corny joke, before taking another bite of the wormy food.

Newton Filinas
He beamed at her, utterly proud of himself for his rediculous joke and seemingly successfull picnic lunch. Unfortunatly, he was running out of material to talk about. He took another bite of squirming hot dog, shifting awkwardly. "KrrrKIT!"

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi continued to eat, letting the conversation fall into silence and trying to keep her mind off of the things like her stillbirth and Taro... It kept going back there, but she tried to ignor it for then... Refusing to cry on someone again, especially on a date of all things.

She did make a bit of small talk, marvling at the ocean, complimenting the dessert when they got to it, and the like.

And eventually they had finished, Natsumi was still smiling as she helped pack away the leftovers into the basket, keeping the maggot boquet in a free hand. She was quite pleased with such attention. It felt really good after everything she'd gone through that day and week... Atleast someone wanted her.

She stood as they finished, brushing off the bits of sand that followed her up. "Thankyou again. It was wonderful." she gave a polite nod-bow.

Newton Filinas
Newt beamed up at her, fidgeting anxiously, "I... I'm huh-huh-happy you enjoyed it..." He swallowed, turning to go about packing everything back up in it's basket.

Natsumi Tanaka
She helped him pack before she had stood, though letting him finish with the few bits that had been closer to him. Waiting patiently to see wether he would walk her back to her duplex or if they'd go their seperate ways now.

Newton Filinas
He clutched the basket to his chest, smiling up at her fondly still as he gave an awkward, distracted, "KrrKIT!"

Natsumi Tanaka
Poor man, those hiccups just never seemed to let up... Oh well. "Ready?" she piped hapily, cluthcing her hands together with the boquet infront of her, giving a glance around the sand to make sure she hadn't forgotton anything.

Newton Filinas
"I'll... I'll wuh-wuh-wuh-walk you back?" He offered hurredly, hopping forward while dragging the basket behind him.

Natsumi Tanaka
"Alright..." she shifted somewhat shyly, starting back down the path towards her duplex, trying to keep a pace that fit with his hopping.

Newton Filinas
He followed in silence, keeping his head down untill they arrived and he politely stood to the side of teh stairway. He watched her nerviously, as though expecting something, "Ah... I... ah... sup-suppose this is it, th-then...? I'll um... l-let you... guh-guh-go back to um... y-your day. KrrKIT! Ah! Um... KrrKIT! KrrKIT! S-sorry." And he swallowed.

Natsumi Tanaka
Natsumi lingered an moment, almost awkwardly, before he spoke. She didn't seem to notice the expectation... and if she had, she was acting as though she hadn't. She gave a nod, finding herself eager for a nap and just to be alone for a little while. Wether it was her depression kicking in or an effect from the change.. she wasn't sure. She just knew that she was becoming less and less eager to greet the mornings and finding herself falling asleep as the day dragged on.

"Thankyou." she gave a large bow, bending at the waist to almost a 90 degree angle, then standing straight again. Then she turned to her door, unlocking it and stepping in, pausing as she went ot close the tdoor to give him a smile and a wave then dissapere into the room.

Now... What do do with a maggot boquet...

Newton Filinas
Newt watched her go, his mouth sliding down into a frown once more as she dissappeared. Had she liked the picnic? She seemed like she had, but the frog man's parinoia and violent self conciousness came flairing up under his amphibious skin, tying his stomach in knots and making him stumble over his own long flat feet as he tried to hop away. Sure she had liked it! She was just sad, reason kicked in in the back of his mind, and she has every right to be, concidering- He had hoped to do a better job of cheering her, at least. He wasn't very good at that, evidentally. He'd have to try again harder the next time. If there would be a next time... what if she didn't want to see him again? What if he was just bothering her? His mind flew in every direction, making him feel worse and worse as he hurried away, feeling more and more embarassed.

He'd have to make a next time, then.

Doctor Moreau
The loudspeakers in the village and the speakers in everyone's duplexes crackled through at once. The voice of Moreau resounding through the entire area. "Greetings my oh so precious subjects. This is Dr. Moreau, if you weren't already aware, recently an attack was made on my fiance Dr. Aubrey Lockheart, and a threat to me."

"Now while the threat has been dealt with, there is the issue of punishment. Many of you have been here for some time and already have learned what it is like to live without my hospitality, but obviosly some of you recent subjects seem to have gotten the idea that you might have some... leverage here." Moreau half laughed over the intercom.

"That said, the perpetrators of this henious act are to be punished, their duplexes will be locked and they will be left to the wild. They will not be allowed within 100 ft of the village. If they violate this they will be knocked unconcious and kept that way until someone drags them outside of range. In addition they will not be allowed food, clothes, or supplies from the village. They will be watched and anyone who is caught giving them any of these materials will suffer a simlar fate. Perhaps this was they'll learn the error of crossing me. If..." a smug grin on Moreau's face showing through the intercom. "...they haven't already."

"Learn your place boys." is Moreau's final message as the intercom goes off.

Natsumi visibly jumped as somethign cracked through the silence of her duplex... A voice following. She'd simply been getting ready for the day, cleaning up her bug-contraption and picking out a few of the new bugs for breakfast. They still grossed her out but it felt good to her stomach, so there wasn't any fighting it now. But she certiantly hadn't been expecting a voice to break out over the silence of hermundane tasks.

She fell quiet, listening... A pang of fear striking through her. Firstly... It was moreau, the man who owned this place.. A mysterious person that she'd never met-And felt she wouldn't ever meet... Even if she wasn't happy with her current situation, and the people that put her there, she couldn't help but feel she needed to respect him anyways. He was like.. the president or something like that, there really was no word for it.

The words that followed scared her though, like hearing a news report about some assassination attempt in your neighborhood. Well, thats what it was but... Still. It was a nervewracking thought... Not allowed near the village. That was releiving, to say the least. She'd be safe in the village, and she had no power. No need to come after her like they had Moreau.

A chill ran down her spine as the annoncement finished, Moreau was definatly not someone she wanted to mess with. What would have happend if they succeeded though? Would everyone be free then? Or... would everything just get worse? She shook her head, clearing the thoughts for now and getting back to work. No need to think on such things...

Doctor Moreau
An annoucement booms across the speakers as Moreau's voice returns. "So that it is known, Zachary Bloodstone has decided to violate the policy that I laid down concerning the punishment of Tommy Christian and Alec Derring for the attempted murder of Dr. Aubrey Lockheart."

Moreau's voice paused as it boomed across the village and much of the island. "Therefore, he is subject ot the same fate, anyone caught helping any of them with food, water, or any kind of supplies will be punished in the same way. They will not be able to approach the village and those new subjects who were unaware who have aided them, you are now warned."

Don't test me."

Natsumi jumped yet again as something broke through the silence of her duplex, this time she'd been heading towards the shower, now she paused with a towel around her torso to peek her head back into the room. Listening... Zachary? As in.. Zach? Was it the dragon Zach or.. someone else? She didn't have time to think about it when a familiar name hit her ears. Alec, Tommy?! They.. They tried to murder Aubery-san? The sweet woman that had helped her... the only nice staff member there was, and Alec... She didn't know tommy that well, but she knew Alec. Alec would never... Would he? But he did.

The rest of the annoucement was tuned out. She gave a light squeak as her knees fell out.. Fear. She was scared... People she thought she knew were out there trying to kill others... And not someone mean, but someone nice. Someone who hadn't done anything. It didn't make any sense... In that moment of suprise and shock somethign kicked in. Perhaps a survival instinct... The gecko that had urged her to avoid others so much finally had it's proof. Finally had her in the mindset to where she'd accept it's thoughts. And in the blink of an eye everyone she knew was a potential predator, someone who might harm her... Or eat her, as the gecko insisted.

Her heart beat, her mind raced... What should she do? Lock the doors. Yes. Nothign could get in.. She'd stay in here where nothing would get her. Safe... Atleast until she figured this out... Or so she told herself as she pushed herself to stand and went to bolt the extra lock on the door.
