The Joker

Mufasa. Joker. Seemed like a fitting set (roughly, although he'd pointed out to her rather dryly that Scar would've been even better, or at least Simba since he didn't die about a third of the way into the movie - but apparently the fact that he was well-versed in the ways of the Lion King was striking enough that they'd never revisited that one), and so here they were. At another mysterious party.

Granted, this one was a bit different from the last... more of a departure from the typical parties he'd known throughout his life. Penkisite allowed Lia to hold onto him, knowing that even the last party in its more normal stages had been entirely novel to her.

He liked the masks, though. - and that he could be himself, here - and he liked that she hadn't bothered to do that ridiculous thing to her hair again. "I suppose." His response was fairly mild, considering, but was anyone really surprised?

Mufasa (Lyonsite)

(Lyon's rebuttal to that was Mufasa all the way because he was OG, and only the good die young. Whatever that meant).

The woman let out a loud snort at the mild reply, just forever amused at how he responded to things. Apparently they were in space and that wasn't enough to really impress him. "You know---that reminds me of something I was thinking about, Mr. Man, it's---"

The place had been crowded when they arrived, yet as time passed, it seemed to steadily grow more so---and not in an entirely natural way. Lyonsite suddenly cut off talking as further off, passing by some other party goers she caught sight of someone. Someone she hadn't seen in nearly seven years---and she was not the type to see things or hallucinate.

Fingers dug more into Penikisite's arm as she fixated on the spot, her entire frame stilling. She stared, but after a moment, he was no where to be seen. She had to be seeing things. She was in some weird outer space Great Gatsby hall and---

"Uh---" Lyonsite said after a moment, reluctantly drawing her gaze away from the spot. She looked down at Peni for a moment, and then couldn't help but glance back in the direction. "...What was I saying?" She forgot.

The Joker

Penikisite frowned: it did not take much to gather that something had happened. No one could say he was unobservant (quite the opposite, really - just when it came to most people, key word being most, he frankly didn't give a damn), and Lyon herself was not exactly known for being subtle. He would've had to been robbed of all senses (touch included - he'd underestimated the power of her fingers) not to notice that something had happened.

Not to mention it was probably the first time ever that she'd lost track of something she'd wanted to ask him. "What's wrong? - what happened?"

He might have actually sounded vaguely concerned, a little tense now himself as he thought back to the last party.

Mufasa (Lyonsite)

"Nothing." Came the immediate reply. The kind of reply in itself said that something was wrong, and even as shook as she was, she knew it sounded so. "Nothing---just thought I saw something." Looking at the area where he had been and seeing nothing, she felt both relieved and disappointed.

It was just a weird Great Gatsby space hall. Just a really weird---

A voice spoke up behind them.

"You know, you can never go wrong catering with pizza. It's something I miss a lot---pizza, that is."

Lyonsite froze, eyes going wide, and her hold on Penikisite's arm this time was death. If the woman's nails were anything but short and blunt, they'd be tearing into the man's sleeve right about now. She was stuck like that for a long moment, holding onto his arm, before she abruptly let go. She felt like she had the wind knocked out of her---no breath in her chest, as she slowly turned around, almost afraid of what she'd see---or wouldn't. Some cruel trick of---

No. He was there, looking up at her with dark brows raised, like a damn day hadn't passed and he had caught her staring off into space as he waited for her to come back down. He was in his mid-teens, fit, with tanned skin and buzzed black hair on the sides with it being longer on the top. Comically, he was about a foot shorter than Lyonsite. He was wearing the same thing he had died in---the track uniform for their high school.

He stared back at her. "Cat got your tongue there, eh, Lion-O?" He grinned. "You look like you've seen a ghost---" He let that hang in the air there for a moment before he snorted a bit, shaking his head. "Sorry. Bad taste---I couldn't resist dishing some of your corniness back at you."

Lyonsite said nothing as she stared at him, but in that moment, everything else had stopped existing for the woman, as she tried to comprehend who she was staring at and how.

The boy let her have a moment---he guessed that made sense, maybe he'd be in a stunned stupor too, if their places were switched. Instead he looked over at her companion curiously, and after a moment raised a hand in greeting to the man. "Hey." He smiled. "Sorry to butt in---but I'm working with a limited window of time."

The Joker

There were a good many things to process in a very short window of time. Penikisite's lips were pressed in a firm line, and to his credit, he made not so much as a sound when she grasped so tightly at his arm. Some part of him mused whether or not it would bruise - not that it was any real concern, a bruise was nothing, but it did speak to the force of the emotion compelling that vice-like grip.

He tried to fit the pieces together, and the circus part of him was oddly rankled by the fact that he did not know who this person was to have had such an impact on her. His true self recognized that for what it was - obviously, he'd only met Lia less than a year ago, there were bound to be people he didn't know - but the agitation persisted in spite of logic.

Even so, he had an inkling. "So, you're dead?" A bit blunt, but. Well. "Who are you?" Seemed a bit of an odd question to follow affirmation on whether he was alive or not, but anyway, "You're not going to attack her, are you?"

Vodka

Taking the woman's arm, Vodka tossed back the rest of his glass as well. There were shadows all around growing more solid, people growing less so, but he didn't give two shits about that. He was Finnish. If Chauvet had opened the land of the dead for her party, that was on her, not him.

The foyer lead off to the gallery and the astrarium, as well as alcoves that were plenty private with how absorbed folk were in their own little dramas, but there was also a stairway leading down, which was promising.. He drew his companion off towards the stairway with an almost playful flash of teeth, lifting one of her wrists to his mouth briefly.

"Come with me." Wasn't it always better to go down?

Mufasa (Lyonsite)

At the bluntness, the boy grinned. "Bingo. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. How refreshing it is to talk to someone who knows what's up. That's a survival instinct kicking in on her part---glad to see she's hanging with smart people." It was a tease to the woman who was still just staring at him. "I'm not entirely sure what all of this is---but whatever it is, I can't exactly introduce myself, and it almost stuffed me in some ridiculous get up too---so the long and short of it is---I'm a friend from good ol' high school, so, no, I'm not going to hurt her." The boy leaned closer to Penikisite, even going as far to raise a hand like he was whispering conspiratorially to the man. "Have you seen those beast arms? Ghost or no, she'd tear me to shreds."

It was almost like her brain couldn't compute this---two worlds colliding, just talking to each other like this was normal and---but he was right there. Lyonsite suddenly felt the air burn back into her chest as she remembered to breathe, and finally, she was spurred into motion. She lunged for the boy, and the said beast arms wrapped tightly around him in a fierce hug. It felt so different. While she was the same height, he just felt so much smaller. Stuck forever in youth while she got older, but, it was him. Real and warm, and there, and she had missed him. So much.

She couldn't be dreaming this. Her imagination wasn't this creative, and she had spent the better part of seven years trying not to think about it.

The boy looked surprised for a moment as he was easily swept up, but he laughed, and hugged her in return. "Finally. We're burning daylight here---or perhaps the right thing is starlight---"

"I miss you." She said, voice muffled, and the tease fell away from the boy in that moment. "I miss you, too." He replied back in earnest. She was loathe to put him down, but she did, if only so she could look at him. Hands stayed on his shoulders, as she just took him in.

"So, I know you've seen enough movies to know how this goes." The boy said, looking up at her. "Whatever last words there are, let's hash it out."

The Joker

It took all of a few seconds of listening to him to understand how they could be friends. The sense of humor was very much the same, and it would be a little much to say that set Penkisite at ease, but...

Smart people. Not wrong, but he wondered whether this guy would feel the same way if he knew what Lyon knew. Hah. Still. It was interesting to get this sort of glimpse back. He knew nothing of Lyon in high school, what she'd been like, who her friends were. Interesting.

He did still smirk at the remark about her arms. "Well you're right about that."

That small prickle of something returned when Lyon hugged him like that, irrational as ever. Especially since she was basically a behemoth next to the boy who might as well have been Mason's age (granted, Mason was definitely smaller).

He wanted to ask more about who he was, but assumed he'd have the freedom to ask about the boy later. If time was limited, then it made sense that it was for them to share. Even if it was a bit hard to relate (he couldn't think of anyone outside of his little negaverse circle he'd be especially concerned about dying), he knew socially speaking that this was an intimate moment. More importantly, it was clearly important to Lyon, so...

αρπάζω

"Ah — wait!" αρπάζω started toward the bright orb, hand outstretched, but Genevieve was gone faster than αρπάζω could impotently pursue her. Her chase petered off, and falling flat against her side as she dropped her shoulders with disappointment. Now, for whatever reason, Genevieve was gone — as was αρπάζω's chance at learning more about this foreign place and its foreign powers. So was her chance to gather more information about knights for Giza.

Now she was left wanting answers in the company of someone she'd never met, and frankly, she wasn't sure if this girl could help. Lips pursed, αρπάζω looked her over briefly. Minty hair, short, stocky build, hadn't infringed much. A firm maybe.

Shoulders squared, αρπάζω looked back toward the path of light. "I'm going after her." I need those answers.

"You're welcome to come help, or you can stay here and enjoy yourself." One foot before the other, she began her long wade through the waning crowd.

Mufasa (Lyonsite)

He had just gotten here---it hurt to hear talk about leaving but---he was right. She had seen the movies with this trope enough to know that yes, it probably was a limited window of time. Still. Lyonsite stared at the boy for a moment before she reluctantly let go of him, to turn to her companion. "H-hey---" Even with the mask on, her eyes were easy to read. A bit wide, a bit stunned, a bit pained, and a lot of pleading.

"Would it be okay if him and I pulled off to the side for a moment, Chuckles?" Her voice was a bit choked. She hated asking. She never liked treating anyone like a third wheel---and it was funny. It wasn't that she didn't want Peni to overhear them talking---she just didn't want him to feel left out as they spoke. Perhaps that was silly---he probably didn't care about that or think like it but she did.

"I---I'll owe you big time."

The Joker

Being conflicted was a strange sensation, and not for the first time since any of this had started, Penikisite didn't really know if he relished it or not. Decisions should be an easy thing. Cut and dry. Simple and logical. To feel any ounce of it - even more when he wasn't sure where it was even coming from, because wasn't the decision fairly obvious? Of course he was going to give her the space that she needed. There was no reason not to let her go and talk to him, and he didn't want to stop her from doing it, so what on earth was he feeling conflicted about exactly?

Maybe it was that he didn't really relish seeing her upset. Emotional pain was infinitely harder to parse out than physical. "You owe me exactly one patrol and one sleep over for all this, " he remarked dryly, trying to put her at ease with some degree of normalcy in something all together abnormal. It worked for some people. Right?

Mufasa (Lyonsite)

In that moment, she lacked the words to say how much that meant to her. Perhaps her expression did some of the talking to her, as relief washed over her, followed by appreciation and gratefulness. For a moment, she almost lurched like she wanted to hug the man, but remembered who it was she was currently talking to. Except Lyonsite was running on raw emotion. Instead her hand came up, fingers grazing the side of Penikisite's neck in an affectionate gesture, and briefly her thumb brushed his jaw.

It felt right at the moment, in place of a hug. "You got it." She replied, and briefly a smile pulled at her lips before her hand fell away. Lyonsite turned, taking her friend by the shoulders and pulling off to the side. Finding a look nook in the Foyer that wasn't so densely packed for a little bit of privacy.

The Joker

He nearly took a step back, and he really didn't understand why.

He did shiver, nearly imperceptibly, granted, but it made the gooseflesh no less real in the wake of her hand as she touched his neck.

His jaw clicked audibly at the ghostly touch of a thumb.

Penikisite didn't understand why his body was betraying him in such subtly visceral ways, and thought it easier to chalk it up to memories he was still learning to subdue - or to embrace - which to do, what to do, how to take it, what it meant -

He lingered nearby to keep watch, but did claim a drink to combat the troublesome burn in his chest.

Killing was easier than this. The thought was so stark and ironic that that, of all things, made him laugh to himself.

Crystal
The woman was -- she was talking to her? Her as in - not Aunè, whatever-she'd-been. Or maybe it was the other way around? The world felt so thin and delicate, fragile, she could have sworn there were bodies at her back - it was easy to grab onto the perceived offer for dear life. Everyone was so loud in the silence.

This... it felt like something was in her head. She hated things getting in her head. She wouldn't even hate it if it wouldn't keep happening. If it had ever happened before at all. It was so hard to remember.

It couldn't matter that much, though, because the lady running this had disappeared, and that was no fun at all! You couldn't just run away from a party, even if you weren't feeling well. It was impolite. And whatever people might have said about Aunè, she did try her best to be polite, most of the time; or, at least, when adults could see her. "I'm coming too!"

Halfwit

As soon as the stairs were finished, each cat was set down into their own power. Helper Cat took to walking under the right train, while Princess Cat huffed and crescent rolled herself on the left train again to be carefully pulled along the edges of the people.

These are all wrapped up in their own dancing and curiosities. I paint myself too much a loner, and lo, there are those maddened by their lives taking wall-flowering to new heights of paranoia in the Astrarium. Lower down may promise less threatening of friendly-fire. May.
