Kai knee he wasn't going to the island from tbe start. Not into the ocean. Not without a boat and floaties and a life vest with 20 lifeguards. Exhausted and without a shield, he knew he was done.
But he had to find Joy. As he spitted the petite hunter, he moved over and pulled her into a hug. "You better be safe. You better come back. I mean it." His hug got a bit tighter.

Rhys waded the waters for a moment, wincing at the biting cold that shot straight up his legs and through his body. The island loomed in the distance, and he could see the waters they'd have to swim through to get there. Just that much gave him a sense of motivation to get through, and when he'd waded far enough he dived in. He dodged the hands best he could, swearing now and again but very mindful of his breathing and not letting himself get too distracted. Those hands only needed to get a good grip on him once and he'd go under...
It wasn't long before he started feeling a little sick, and it progressively got worse. It was getting a bit harder and harder to concentrate the closer he got to the island, but he didn't let himself stop to rest or figure out what in the hell was going on. And then for whatever reason grief started to set in on him as he got closer still, but despite that and the confusion that mixed in just a little bit as wondered where in the hell it even came from he swam just that much harder until he finally made it to shore.
The trainee was breathing hard as he looked ahead for a moment, then around him to see who had made it so far, and then behind him to see if there was anyone that might have needed help. He was trying his best to hold down the urge to throw up, and he managed to get just a bit past the edge of the water before he couldn't hold it in anymore.

Kin watched the lobster melt back into water, kind of wishing it melted into butter and became a nice dinner. She sighed and looked back to the island and got ready to drown.. Hurrah, she made it to the water without going under. She looked at Melvin and gave him a nod of thanks before climbing ashore. It was sad feeling here, it was always kind of sad here. There was also something comforting when she went there. She looked toward where the tree was, then looked back at the others coming to shore. "Hnn," She hoped it worked, but she would head toward the tree first, just walking slowly, looking toward it. She liked the tree, and wondered.. No she just liked being here. She then looked back, stopping hoping Terry would come with her.

Joy was trying to catch her breath when the final blow was dealt and the golem lost its form. "Yeah!" the cheer was loud, as if she hadn't been swatted around like a ragdoll. All around her, the injured hunters were being assisted to she guessed the infirmary when she was suddenly caught up in a Kai-hug.
She squeaked a little at the constricting embrace but returned it with soft laughter, "I'll come back, don't you worry. You ain't getting rid of old Joy so easily."
She extracted herself from the much larger, much younger trainee after another squeeze before braving into the waves. As she drew closer to the island, Joy would find she was going to need help.

If Terry's performance in the fight was any sign of how the rest of the mission was going to go, he seriously considered pretending he got beaten the hell up. Unfortunately he also remembered his girlfriend needed help in the water and his weapon was already upset enough with him that faking injury would not endear him to her any further.
So he begrudgingly got up from underneath a pile of sand, miraculously not having gotten stepped on as the other hunters were heading away from the shore.
Agata proved invaluable as a life coach, or as that nagging voice in your head, whichever she found more flattering, because somehow Terry managed to reach the island. He started to feel queasy, head throbbing and this awful weight of dread just threatening to overwhelm him.
He stumbled onto the island, trying to locate Kim.

Kim finally noticed her wayward boyfriend and she ran to him, her feet bare, and her hair loose around her face. She tossed her arms around Terry, not seeming to feel the same sadness or at least not the same level of sadness as those around her. Likely a bit part of it was her being there several times not too long ago. She kissed the poor Moon hunter's cheeks and took his hands gently. "Terry, you look like you were kicked by a giant lobster.." She shook her head sadly. "I shall give you a nice massage if we get out of this in one piece."

Melvin glanced over at Terry and Kim with a scowl before he looked back out into the ocean, on lookout to see if anyone was being attacked or in trouble. As the remaining hunters started to make their way to shore, passing by him, he noticed Joy off further ahead and left Terry and Kim to their moment as he dove back into the water.
With long strides, he moved over to dive down and pull Joy back up to the surface. "I got you. Just kick with me." He said, letting her use him if need be to hold onto, and kicking out with her as he headed back to the the island.
Once on shore, he gestured for her to sit down. "Take a moment. I don't see any golems on the island, so I'd take the rest while you can." He said, wiping away the wet bangs from his face to one side.

The golem had fallen but Cami was more than a little battered and winded from the fight. Chance had gone down while trying to score a deathblow and she made sure he was alright before continuing on towards the water. She caught up to Henry there and lightly tugged on his hand. "C'mon. I'm a good swimmer. Just stay close to me and do what I do and you'll be fine. If something goes wrong don't grab at me or anything like that. Yell my name and I'll come back for you." Big words for a fourteen year old without any lifeguard training but she'd spent her whole life surrounded by water, living in water, an island girl. "Got it?" She smiled. kuropeco Assume she hugged him ok? Ok.

Joy knew, intellectually, she should be fighting against the water, or at the very least trying to figure out how to get back to the surface. But there was a heavy weight in her head, making it all seem so pointless and tiring, as if she was fighting a lost cause and should have bailed out ages ago.
Bert's presence was muffled, his reedy voice barely audible. Everything around Joy had a blurred way about them. Until someone managed to drag her up and out of the water.
She gasped for air, and immediately regretted it as it only made her aware of her burning lungs. Coughing and sputtering, she barely managed to register Melvin's instructions but at least he was solid. And there and she did as instructed to the best of her abilities even if she was about as graceful as a horse on rollerblades trying to fly.
Wow that did not make sense, it must be the water. "Th-thanks, okidoks," she managed to cough as they got to the shore. Somehow, she resisted the urge to bury herself face down into the sand.

There was a flood of relief as the lobster finally fell, but Henry couldn't help but notice all the hunters that had been taken down by the thing before it'd melted back into the ocean. How he had managed to stay among those still standing was baffling to him. He wasn't that good of a fighter--he wanted to be, he just wasn't there yet. The sudden tug on his hand was enough to jerk him out of his own thoughts and he nodded wordlessly as they started to wade out into the water. More than a little nervous, but not willing to admit it, not to her. She's so confident.~ Jealous?~ N-no. Not that. I just, it'd really admirable.~ Mmhmm, that's the word, boil.~ How exactly he managed to keep up with her, to make it to the island even, he wasn't really sure. More than once he felt something brush along his leg or his arm, and it'd make him bite back a startled squeak and recoil, propelling him along quicker. When they reached the island though he was still winded, stumbling a little on the sand before getting his balance back. "Holy crap." He reached for Cami, trying to lay a hand on her shoulder. "You good?"

On the shore, he took deep breathes, settling to sit a moment on the sand just to collect himself, and to place a hand on his chest as he closed his eyes and tried to swallow down the immense feelings of grief - one he was familiar with without the island. Old woulds split open at a feeling that once had him debating if walking into the very ocean he swam out of for good was the best for everyone. Was what he deserved.
Slowly he took a breath out and a breath in. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out.
He covered his mouth a moment before slowly standing up.
"You did good. Just stay there if you need to." He told Joy as he moved past her and up the shore.

It would have been really easy to waffle out and stay, instead, to help the injured get back to the infirmary and clean up the mess the lobster had made. Maybe, if Zeke hadn't offered support, he would have done it. It was the implied pity behind the other man's tone that steeled Ever's spine. He waved off the concern, stripped off his boots and socks. Hissing between his teeth, he made his way into the water, even if it put a shudder down his spine. Too deep. Too wide. He mostly closed his eyes and tried to think about something else, only coming back into himself once he hit shore.

More than once Cami looked back over her shoulder and was about as surprised as Henry was that he was keeping up. This was not easy swimming. With every stroke the ocean was fighting them, trying to keep them on the shore, and either out of the sea or away from the giant tree. Hauling herself up and out of the surf her breathing was labored and there was no compunction at all about rolling into the sand. She'd be filthy and would probably regret it later but it was easy enough to rinse off in the unrelenting rain. That was what the towel was for anyway. Poor Henry's hand hovered in midair because she'd gone down hard, sprawled on the ground like it was her bed. "That was a b***h." Her head came up to look at him. "You ok?"

SOSZeke was absolutely shocked to see Ever strip off boots and socks and wade (nearly) unflinching right into the water. So shocked, in fact, that for a long moment or two he stood there watching the other man, only to realize with a start that should something happen he wouldn't be a whole lot of help still standing on the shore. Lips pressed in a thin line, he jogged in after him, diving into an on coming wave and began slicing his way through the water with the sort of effortless form that came from years of swimming. It was all going fine, he was almost to the island, when something cold and definitely not seaweed worked it's way around his ankle and suddenly jerked him violently under the water with only the briefest sound of alarm before his head disappeared beneath the choppy water. And didn't reappear again. Henry would actually drop right down beside her when his hand met air, his fight with gravity forfeit willingly. They could sit there for a moment and catch their breath, that was just fine by him. "Yeah, I'm okay." Which was especially shocking to Henry himself. ~ Lucky mayhaps, boil?~ Oh thanks.~ Nae problem~ Niceven giggled, but it faded s she retreated to the back of his mind and left him to his own thoughts. He looked up, finally, to take in the island and the giant tree. "This place is kind of creepy, but kind of pretty." "Oui, c'est français. I could try." She chuckled as she sank down to take a seat beside him. "I could teach you the fun things, at least." Which was a very broad statement, and could have meant so many things. Leaning back to rest on her elbows, Soleil tipped her back to look over the island they were now on, and she gave a low whistle as she took in the tree. "That's impressive." It was huge. "And it's got some kind of power, right?" Or something to that effect.

The ocean was wild and unwelcoming and did not look at all appealing to swim in, but that was the next step. Jordan desummoned with a sigh and walked into the water, pushing out to about chest deep before he began to swim.
Normally, he was pretty good at swimming, but the water itself was trying to pull him down, tentacles gripping his limbs and jerking him around, and it was incredibly hard to make way. Then two tentacles formed at once, grabbing an arm and a leg, and yanked him unceremoniously under. s**t - He concentrated on holding his breath and tried to push back up toward the surface. After everything he'd been though, this would be a really undignified end.
