Re-energized and eager to stop thinking about how guilty he felt, Marx bounded up. He still wasn't totally sure what to do when he got to the gym, but, heh, he'd figure it out! He walked in, looking around in awe and grinning as he took his place on the battle field. "Hey! If the gym leader's here, I'd like to challenge them to a battle!" he called out. A laugh echoed the room as Wattson strolled out. "That was a fairly friendly challenge!" he remarked with amusement, tossing a pokeball up into the air, "And I accept!" Marx grinned, stepping back and getting ready. Wattson sent out his first pokemon, Magnemite, and Marx quickly tossed out Litwick in return. The fire pokemon's flame lit up, and Marx wobbled a bit, but shook his head, easily dismissing the momentary wave of fatigue and focusing on the battle. But, the opponent had a strategy he didn't see coming-- he was able to switch out without sacrificing a turn. Before he knew it, a voltorb had taken the magnemite's turn, and though Litwick landed a burn, he had lost a vital turn. Marx quickly recalled him and sent out Flygon instead, who took the hit, and shook her head. "Flygon, use bite!" he instructed, for a moment forgetting about her disobedience. He was quickly reminded, however, as she seemed to completely ignore him, flying about happily before slamming her tail on the ground to create a fissure, K.O.ing Voltorb instantly. She cooed happily, and Marx blinked, smiling a little and rubbing the back of his neck. Well that was... something.
He recalled Flygon, sending Litwick out next, certain he knew what was coming next. Unfortunately, with it came another Volt Switch. Litwick looked annoyed, and Marx had to admit, he was feeling it too. That was kind of a dirty tactic! Hit and run, no willingness to stay and take the damage itself! Marx balled his hands up a bit, raising his shoulders as he waited for his turn to attack. There! See, once Litwick did manage to land a hit, he did massive damage! He even landed a burn! But the switch outs kept coming... That wasn't fair, come on! Marx was actually starting to get irritated at this! The pokemon were both close to fainting, and yet neither were giving them the chance to take them out. After a moment's hesitation, Marx quickly switched out Litwick for Amaura-- only for the pokemon to be taken down instantly. Wh-what... What!? Flinchign back a bit, he returned Amaura, hesitating again, and finally sending out Flygon. At the very least, she should be able to hold out for the burns to take them down...

Wattson emitted a hearty laugh after the battle, a look of amusement able to be found upon his visage despite the fact that his prized electric pokemon had been defeated. "That was a great battle, son!" The older man complimented, giving his beard a stroke or two. Clearing the battle field of the last of his pokemon Wattson strode over to Marx, then stopped when he was only but a foot away. "Now let's see here..." he muttered, left eye closing and tongue sticking out as he rustled around his pocket for his badge. "I know it's in here somewhere..." Finally the gym leader produced a badge, shiny and brand new despite having been in his pocket. "Here ya are! The Dynamo badge! It shows that you just had yourself a dynamite battle!" Wattson chuckled at is own pun before he pulled out a disc, this one from the inside of his jacket pocket. "And the TM Thunder Wave! It'll paralyze your opponent on the spot!"

Marx looked at the man a bit dubiously as he laughed after his defeat. Not so much because of the good-sport nature of it, but rather... Was it really a great battle? He'd switched pokemon so much it was almost hard to even tell which pokemon had been which. Still, though... he won! A grin crossed his face at that, and he placed his hands behind his head, smiling rather proudly as he waited for the man to find his badge. He might have been a little under prepared, but he still won! And he only had to use half his team! He got kind of lucky with some of that, admittedly, though...
"Thanks!" he chirped happily, snatching up his prize winnings. He didn't seem to even notice the pun-- or maybe he did, it was kind of hard to tell with him just grinning all the same. Flygon was still out and came over, sniffing curiously at the badge and TM. Marx smiled, patting her head, and then giving a wave to the man, heading out at a jog to go get everyone healed up. He should probably check on Amaura and make sure he was alright, and not too mad over that nasty K.O....

Once Marx had everyone healed up, he moved back outside, releasing Amaura and giving a sheepish smile. "Heh, hey Amaura. You alright? You're not sore over that, uh... knock out, are you...?" he asked, rubbing the back of his next. Amaura inhaled, and promptly blew a furious icy wind at his trainer. Marx yelped and stumbled back, throwing his hands up to try and defend himself. "Okay okay!" he called out. The pokemon huffed, eying him. Marx looked up, brushing some frost out of his hair. "Well I'm sorry! I thought you'd be resistant to their electric attacks..." he mumbled. Amaura narrowed an eye at him. Did this guy even know how typing worked....? Whatever. He rolled his eyes, looking away to distract himself by simply observing their surroundings. Marx rubbed the back of his neck again, but sighed as it seemed apparent Amaura was not interested in discussing the matter any further. Oh well...

Huffing a bit, Marx dropped onto a nearby bench, propping an arm up and resting his cheek against his fist. He wans't really sure what to do now... Contest stuff? Ranger stuff? It kinda seemed like a good idea to get on some of that, but part of him really wanted to just message his friends. He tapped a finger against his cheek, but then pulled out his holo caster, giving in to the urge. Amaura finally glanced over his shoulder at his trainer, rolling his eyes and shaking his head. This guy was a total idiot. He barely manages to get a badge-- after wasting him with an instant K.O. at that-- and now he's tapping away at his holo caster.
But, Marx didn't seem to even noticed. He was too busy sending messages to just about all of his friends, though he restrained himself from poking Rose again. He didn't want to bug her too much, and hopefully texting just about... everyone else would keep him occupied.

Well... that was done! Marx kind of wondered if he should send Isis and Zero a message, too. It had been a while since he saw them, but he hadn't known them quite as long, either. Maybe if his other friends were busy, he could bug them, too, and see what they were up to. He pushed himself off the bench and stretched, putting his holo caster away and looking about curiously. Considering how close that gym battle had gone, it would probably be a good idea to keep training. Was this still a good spot for that, though? Hm... Maybe Felix would know? He grabbed the kirlia's pokeball, looking at it a long moment. He could always just ask the locals... Nah. Releasing the pokemon, he grinned, placing his hands behind his back. "So, Felix, you pr--"'You should remove Flygon from your active team again, Marx,' Felix interrupted, 'To avoid future disobedience.' Marx blinked a few times, shoulders dropping as his arms swung down. That... well that wasn't quite the greeting he'd been hoping for.

Sighing, Marx moved to comply. "Alright..." he relented, "Do you know what gym is next?" That might help him decide who to put in her place, at least. Felix bowed his head a little, then looked towards the pokecenter. 'You should probably ask around,' he suggested. Marx sighed, but gave a nod, turning to head back into the pokecenter. He walked in, placing his hands on the desk and looking around, waiting while tapping his feet a bit. He tugged at his ear and rubbed his nose, looking around and waiting, and then perked up as Nurse Joy appeared. "Hi Nurse Joy! I was just wondering, do you know what the gym after Wattson is?" he asked. She blinked, glancing behind him at his pokemon, but then gave a smile. "Oh! Ah... Yes, the next gym is Flannery. She's a fire type trainer, and her gym is just north of here," she answered pleasantly. Marx beamed, giving a nod. "Awesome, thanks!" he replied.
He paused as he started to leave, though, turning back around to ask her another question. "By the way, do you happen to know any good places to train nearby?" he asked with a smile. She blinked, then seemed to think, before smiling and gesturing in the general direction of the train station. "Not specifically here, in Hoenn, but I've heard of some battle towers in some places, and the fair that's going on may have something. If not, I'm sure there would be plenty of trainers to battle," she replied. Marx blinked. There was... a fair???

Marx was amazed! He didn't know there was a fair around! Of course, he still was 100% sure that he should go, but... maaannn, how could he not!?! He should probably wait and hear from his friends first... But then again, why? He waffled, walking out, torn in thought. He dropped onto the bench again, Amaura and Felix walking with him, and focused on rearranging his party for a bit. He might as well do that, before running off to go train in wherever. Plus, maybe he could find some information on this fair, so he could know what to expect and all? There would probably be some pamphlets or something closer to the train station...

Once he made his way to the train station, Marx was a little surprised. Both at how many people were there, and that he had missed all this commotion in the first place. It seemed that a lot of people were converging to head to the fair! That, or just a large amount, and normal train trafficking was still taking place. He rubbed his head a little as he looked at all the grounds, marveling for a moment, and then shaking his head. He recalled Felix before the pokemon got swept up in the group, but let Amaura remain out, the ice-rock pokemon following directly behind him, eying the crowd from left to right. He had not seen this many humans before... the biggest crowd he'd come across previously was when he'd just been... Well, he wasn't sure what it was. But his first few real memories once he'd escaped from that place, while this bozo was chasing him around. He'd caught a glimpse of a group of people before promptly being recalled into that little spherical prison. He still wasn't sure what all had happened... though the kirlia pokemon had explained some of it to him. It didn't matter, really. He wasn't going to fight it. He would accept his existence. He just wished it wasn't with such an idiot.

Amaura nearly bumped into Marx when the brunette stopped at a destination stand. It had all sorts of information-- including a pamphlet on the fair! Marx grinned, picking it up, and then looking around again. It was pretty crowded here... maybe it would be best to read it somewhere else? Besides, if this fair was anything like the tananabananaba festival, or... whatever it had been, it might have games. And if he was gonna train and play games, then he might need a few more pokemon. Maybe. He wasn't entirely sure... Zubat, after all, wasn't exactly apt for games, and while he could switch him out with Amaura, the ice-rock pokemon might be good to have trained up against Flanelby. Er... Flannery. Scrunching up his face in thought, he moved away from the crowd, but blinked as he received a message. From Cheria! He grinned, eagerly opening it up, and raising his eyebrows in surprise when he saw she was actually at the Renaissance Fair. Whoa! That was a crazy coincidence! Though he supposed it wasn't that surprising, considering it had probably garnered a lot of attention. He quickly started in on a response;

Just as he was sending his message to Cheria, another one came through from Alex. He perked up, beaming, quickly opening the message up. Smiling with a bit of pride, he straightened up, chest puffing out some. And with her encouragement to reward his pokemon, he was guaranteed to go to the fair. Even if he... still planned to train quite a bit. Even though training was terribly... terribly boring. But he'd... he'd do it! Texting back a reply to Alex, he headed back for the pokecenter, planning to pick up a few pokemon, just in case.
Text to Alex: I will! I still gotta train and stuff, but I'm going to go to this Renaisaince fair thing! Have you heard about it?? Are you gonna go?
With that, he hurried off to get his pokemon, darting into the pokecenter and excitedly grabbing a few pokemon, before hurriedly rushing off to the train station to buy his ticket.

The train ride was crowded; apparently there was some fair going on and everyone and their mother was heading in that direction. Faraday inquired of some passing people about it; a Renaissance Fair? Huh, he’d never been to one of those before. It sounded potentially interesting. But he had things he needed to focus first; like getting badges before Lyndon or someone else came and nagged his ears off. Maybe he’d let his pokemon have a treat and go to this fair if it was still going on once they were done.
Hopping off the train, he ushered his pokemon off to the side and out of the way of the crowds, taking a moment to locate the pokemon center and head inside. Once his team was properly healed up, he took a moment to visit his PC. He needed to sort his team out a bit; depositing a few new additions. He eyed Calcifer’s ball as he went about this; it’d been a while since he’d seen that Misdreaveus. He wondered what it was up to. Oh well. Shaking his head he deposited what he needed and withdrew what looked to be a new present waiting for him. Something from Addison? Well how nice, given that he hadn’t spoken to her in fifty million years. Damn these communication problems.
Adding the ball to his team, he turned and left, heading for a nearby map and then for the gym. It was challenge time.

Someday, Faraday would find out how and why gym leaders made their gyms so difficult to traverse through. He was all for buzzles and making it just a bit hard, but you would think forcing some newbie trainer to go through a maze of electrical barriers was a bit… much. But then again, Wattson was a sort of jovial type so he couldn’t quite mind. Plus, the puzzles weren’t all that hard.
Eventually he made it to the challenger’s field, looking around a moment before giving a shout. "Helllooo? I’m looking to challenge the gym leader!" He paused a moment, looking around curiously. Sissil and the Zorua looked about as well, Dresden’s gaze was set steady forward. A moment of silence or so and Faraday was frowning. "Do I have to come back because… I’d rather not to be honest with you."
”Ah, no, no! Sorry about that!” An elderly man suddenly appeared, wiping his hands off. Faraday quirked an eyebrow as he took up the spot on the opposite side of the field, chuckling as he put the rag away. ”I was just doing some work on the wiring! The name is Wattson, so you’re here to challenge me?” The man mused. Faraday smirked a little and nodded as well. "That I am." Wattson chuckled and nodded, producing a pokeball. ”Alright then, let’s see what you’ve got!”

Wattson waved his hand about him and coughed, fanning out the dust that'd been unsettled during Voltorb's last-ditch effort to defeat Faraday's Buneary, careful to avoid the debris that rain downed onto the battle field; now that was the very definition of a dynamite battle! He recalled his fainted pokemon and waited for Faraday to do the same before he strode towards the man, giving his back a stretch as he did so. "You've got yourself a tough little rabbit on you, young man," he complimented. Unlike last time, he was prepared and handed the trainer both a badge and a disc without difficulty, though another did fall from out of his pants and onto the floor. "Oops!" Wattson chuckled at his own clumsiness before he picked up the fallen item, handing Faraday his other winnings beforehand. "There you are, lad! The Dynamo badge and the TM Thunder Wave!" He gave a curious look at the other TM before deciding to give it to Faraday as well. "Here-- take this too! It's Rock Smash, oughta help you out in some way."

The detective hadn’t expected the Voltorb to actually self-destruct in a last ditch effort to win, but then again he also hadn’t expected to see Dresden still standing. He reached for the Buneary’s pokeball and returned him immediately to take a rest. Sissil and the Zorua were staring in stunned silence. Now that… was a battle.
Attaching the ball back to his belt, the man looked up at Wattson as he approached, offering a wry smile in response. "Thanks… he’s my number one for a reason." Dresden had handled that battle like a complete boss and well… Faraday was absolutely amazed. Straightening up he eyed the man a moment as he offered over the badge and TM, gaze casting downwards as another TM seemed to tumble out of the man’s oversized pockets. He took the items and smiled, giving a little bow of appreciation.
"Well thank you very much. I appreciate it." Taking the badge he flicked his wrist and sent it disappearing for later, grabbing the two TMs and eyeing them a moment, a slight smile crossing his face. "That’s a neat trick by the way, I’ll have to try it some time." He gestured jokingly in reference to the TM falling out his pants, neatly straightening the pair of them between his hands before giving a hand clap down and making them vanish from sight as well. He waved at the man who was now laughing in marveled surprise at his little tricks, heading out the gym and for the pokemon center.
Once he had Dresden healed back up to full it was off to their next destination; through Hoenn Desert and on to the next gym hopefully.
