Arian was next to join his companions, seized and drug away no matter how much he struggled. The crowd had thinned incredibly and there were screams heard from just beyond the fire where visibility was impossible.

Scott was stolen away next by a monster that appeared to be dripping with blood, or something similar. He caught him by the wrists and pulled, tugging the young man away from the others.

Poor, poor Orah. She didn't stand a chance with her other companions and was taken away by one of the monsters she'd encountered earlier. There was a palpable panic in the air coming from all around and the screams. They were nearly deafening.
There went quiet Ian leaving only four people left in the middle of the Fire Pits. Just four people with the potential to lose more at any second. The urge for paranoia was probably oppressing by now.

With the blue haired girl snatched and tossed over a big brute's shoulder it was down to three in the middle. No one knew what became of their companions and no one knew how it had come to this or where Hayden was. Was he dead, too?
With Delilah gone it was down to two from an original group of twenty or so. Two people. Would they make it out of here? Could they? Would they see the light of day ever again? It was hard not to wonder right now with so much that happened to them all.

Marlin was picked up and carted away. Only Fleur was left now, helpless little Fleur. All alone. Completely devoid of help or companionship.
A monster came toward Fleur, glowering at her with hollow looking eyes. A laugh rumbled in its chest and sounded sinister at first but then as the laugh continued it began to sound less threatening. Less...scary. With a simple gesture a wig was removed and there stood Hayden in very realistic looking stage makeup. The fires were extinguished immediately and lights from no where came on revealing a circle of the companions that were dragged away, all of them, and not one of them hurt or dead.
They were all cautioned as they were dragged away that this was only a game and there had to be a winner. They were asked to play along and make it the scary finale their host was hoping for. Once the lights were on it was clear to see that the limousines were back and what's more there were racks of costumes and changing tents set up.
"Thank you." he started, smiling as always. "Thank you for being such good sports. I have a rack of costumes, one male and one female, over by the limos. I can understand if you are upset with me. Please, take a new costume and a giftbag with my compliments. Each one is labeled and I hope you will like them."
It was true, a row of fancy paper bags lined on a table between two of the changing tents with golden nametags on top with each guest's name emblazoned on them. Looking around it was easy to see in the light how much rigging and trappings were set up in the camp, probably well beforehand, to make everything they saw. Even the monsters were stripping down, taking off the scary bits to reveal that they were just people. No one was ever really in any danger.
"There's still a party waiting with food and music. I didn't lie about that. If you wish to go to it the first limo there will take you to it once you've changed. It's in a proper loft downtown with no more scary surprises, I promise. The second limousine will take anyone home that wishes to go. There will be no hard feelings, I promise you."
He gave a disarming smile and was completely unrepentant for the fear he put into them. After all, he had warned them in the beginning and gave them a chance to go. The drivers were waiting and seemed passive as ever. The night, it seemed, did not have to be over just yet.
From here on out you may post your response to Hayden, your closing actions, or even at the party to mingle in the closing ORP. Or you can simply take your gift bag and go home. The choice is really up to you. This thread will be open from now until 11:59PST Oct 31st for you guys to post in at the party and enjoy. The costumes mentioned can be anything you like and should be in your characters size. Hayden is good like that.
Congratulations! You survived the Very Scary Halloween Event! ICly each of the players has earned a gift bag with some expensive swag in it (I will leave the contents up to you as players but please try not to go overboard.) But to our winner, Ms. Fleur, there is a special prize. OCly for being the sole survivor Stari has won her next stage of art OR her next character (civ, powered, whatever) on me! That's right, I'm paying for your next Moon Shop art. Just send me a PM and link me and I'll pay the artist. I should mention, however, that this excludes bribes or specialty characters like cats.
I would like to say thank you to each of my players and especially to each of my monster mystery volunteers. You guys have overwhelmed me by making this such a success. I've learned a lot, what works and what doesn't. Next year - changes! Hopefully streamline everything a bit more. Seriously, though, I could not do this without you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope you all had fun. If you have any suggestions for next time feel free to drop me a PM and I hope to see you in my events in the future!

Very generously Stari has decided to defer her OC prize to the second place participant, Litian!
That means, Lit, that your next stage of artwork or your next character is my treat! Just let me know when!
And then suddenly the monsters were swarming the camp again, this time en masse. It happened so quickly that there wasn’t any chance at fighting back.
Gwen was grabbed first, followed by the strawberry blonde dressed up as an eskimo by Isha and Isha himself in quick succession. A small light-haired teen was next, grabbed up from behind and then carried off to gods know where, although the screams coming from behind the fires obscuring everything was not comforting.
And then it seemed it was his turn, the monster grabbing him up and carrying him beyond the light of the fire despite his struggles.
Then they were beyond light and he realised that the monster was talking to him a puzzled look crossing Arian’s face as it sunk it what the ‘monster’ had said.
Game?
And then he was being set on his feet, and the monster was lumbering back towards the Fire Pits leaving Arian puzzling over its parting comment to ‘make it look realistic’.
He finally got it when he saw the four who had been carried off previously, none of them looking hurt and made his way over to them.
A blond was the next out and then Orah and then after that another four, the last of them another strawberry blond dressed in what looked to be a set of wizard robes.
And then as Arian was wondering just how many people were left in the Fire Pits the lights suddenly came on leaving him blinking and the last ‘monster’ was pulling off its head to reveal their host.
With the lights back on it was clear to see that the ‘monsters’ were just costumes and Arian was starting to feel embarrassed - blaming part of it on his bad memories of this place. He looked over at Isha and then at Orah and Gwen, “I feel like the worst kind of fool now” he admitted honestly, his cheeks slightly red. “But I’m glad that everyone’s okay” he was even okay about not having won the game - then again he’d never been particularly competitive.
He had mixed feelings about whether he still wanted to go to the party that Hayden had mentioned, but figured he would if Gwen and Orah decided to go, if not then Arian was tending towards picking up the mentioned gift bag and heading home.
A relatively quiet night was starting to sound pretty good for him, after his evening escapades at Camp Larkspur.

It seemed that they really had been herded here to be picked off one by one, with the monsters suddenly seeming to come to a decision and rush them en masse.
Marlin was pretty sure that he had counted twelve of them including himself when he’d first been herded to this place alongside Castille and Margarita, but soon there was seven and then four and then it was just him and a light green-haired girl that he thought he remembered seeing in the limo that had brought them here.
And then he realised that the monsters had returned, found himself being ignominiously carted out of the Fire Pit area and then felt himself staring in astonishment as he saw the previous ten people, some of whom had been dragged out struggling just beyond the light of the flames.
Things started to click when he realised that none of them appeared to look hurt, enough so for him to catch on relatively quickly when the 'monster' that had hauled him out cautioned him quietly about it being a game.
So he wasn't particularly surprised, although not particularly happy when the last 'monster' pulled off its head to reveal a certain Hayden Pembrose - although a lot of that was down to the fact that he felt like an idiot, not something he appreciated.
Although he was partly mollified when Hayden told them that there really was a party and even more so when he saw his hat neatly to the side and in one piece.
He looked at their host, noticing with the lights that there a lot of work appeared to have gone into setting up the scene. "Does that mean that these things can come off now?" he asked indicating the bracelet on his wrist.
He waited to hear the other’s response before finding his way over to Castille and Margarita and asking them "Have you decided what you’re going to do."
For his part Marlin was planning to have a look at the costumes set up and check out the promised party and hope it was good enough to make up for what he gone through at this place.
Oh and collect his hat, he definitely planned to collect back his hat.
ZaiaFantasy
taking a bit of license to assume that Marlin gets his hat back xD
Castille was terrified when a monster grabbed her arm and started dragging her through the firepits. She struggled against its grip until she was past the flames. When her vision cleared of the spots caused by the light of the fire, she noticed that all of the other people attacked were ok. In fact, they were all perfectly fine.
It all became clear when Hayden removed his mask and called it all a giant hoax. She put a hand to her chest, feeling relief wash over her. Thank goodness it wasn't a Negaverse plot after all.
And there was a party after all! She clapped her hands together, eager to get into the limo and go. But first, she had to see if her new friends were going.
She trotted over to Marlin, and met him halfway to him finding her and Margarita. He asked what she was going to do, and she smiled.
"Oh I am definitely going to the party! I mean, we survived so we deserve it!" She looked up at Marlin and asked "You're going to go too right?"

"I am" Marlin said cheerfully as he nodded in response to Castille's question. "Or at least I am after I've had a look through the replacement costumes" after all his wizard robes kind of looked like a sorry mess.
He added "It's not every night I manage to get time off from the costume shop and especially not at this time of year" after all Halloween was pretty much the biggie for Fancy A Change's sales. "So I want to make the most of it." Although it hadn't come up in their mad dash away from the fake monsters he'd mentioned the fact that he worked at a costume shop to Castille at the DestinyCon convention.
He looked over at Margarita "Are you planning to come to the party?"
Regardless of the other's response however Marlin would follow through on his plans to check through the replacement costumes on offer and find something new to wear. Then maybe have a quick glance through the contents of the gift bag before heading over to the first limo.
The hat was coming too, he wasn't about to lose it again.

Still unable to get up, Mei watched in horror as people were dragged away from the fire by the monsters that circled around them. The once large group was rapidly becoming smaller and smaller, paralyzed by fear and exhaustion there was unfortunately nothing she could do to help .
Mei let out an involuntary scream that was abruptly cut off by a hand covering her mouth. A strong arm snaked it's way around her waist hoisting her up so her feet dangled beneath her, dragging her away from the blazing glow of the fire. 'Let me go!' she mentally screamed, tears running down her face. Her heart beat loudly in her ears rendering her next to deaf to whatever it was that the 'monster' said when he set her down.
She scrambled backwards putting distance between her and her assailant till her back pressed up against the base of a tree. The truth of Bichofite's words came cascading onto her as she stared at the 'monster' in front of her:
Quote:
"I don't know your name, but it wouldn't matter to me. I won't hear of you in ze coming days, and I won't find stories of your triumphs. Zis much I do know. You are meek, girl, and you lack ze gall to stand against zose wis' greater conviction zan your own. You cower from it, scrape togezzer spitfire words and pray zat your display might still dissuade zem. But... Acting as such, you won't even be a memory when you die. Just anozzer faceless casualty in zis war, a tally across ze wall. If it were me, zen a budding young officer might ask, how many haf' you killed, Bischofite? And I would answer wis' a number. But I would not tell your story, for nossing can be gleaned from you. An easy mark does not promote grows', only hubris."
The truth to his words never rang more true than they did now and that terrified her even more. 'I'm going to die...'
