It wasn't the most pleasant way to be wrenched awake. But the excruciating death was fleeting, and his eyelids heavy. He was drawn back into sleep about as helplessly as someone with a rock around their throat into a deep pond.

Calder was stubborn to at least show Barth he could get past the lava, but it seemed he might need to go on a diet. His pony butt was maybe just a bit too heavy for the dangerous terrain.

Still, he was back.

They waited a little longer.

Barth examined both items, both distinctly earthy, and hopefully with...equally distinct properties. A seed. A flower. Living things, and ultimately, one or both might prove to be exactly what he needed.

Calder sat with Barth a moment, just taking a moment to digest and regroup. He couldn't count how many times he died today and he felt the nurse was getting a tad sick of it.

Rising up again, he dusted off his kilt and looked around. Sadly, it wasn't safe. He could see something rusting around in the bush. "Seems company is trying to find us."

Barth didn't seem to be in any particular hurry to rush headlong into danger.

"What do you think?" he asked, handing the rose to Calder to examine. Christof will be very interested, I don't doubt. Biological sciences were never my forte.

Barth took out the acorn, "and this," he said, although he was more hesitant about that item, for whatever reason. He kept it in its claw. The green struck him as a shade malevolent.

Calder looked at the rose, leaning down to smell it and tilted his head. "It's not a plant I've seen before aside from looking just like a rose. Hard to say. My kind usually tastes things to figure out a plant." He said, looking at Barth as if that might just might be a possibility.

The acorn he just shrugged at. "I can't say what makes them special. Their color makes them very unique. My mum says that there are lots of plants that grow deep in places and gather so much of the world that they become magic without any tampering or spellcraftery from anyone else."

"That's very true. Though I don't know if these grew on their own, exactly. They're possessions of powerful beings. Possibly all that remains of them."

He corrected, "or, they were. I don't know about ediblity. Although that's a very good point. We'll err...do some testing, first."

Well maybe they are things that were around them that they made powerful. Like, witches enchanting things. Powerful magic and all." Calder peeked around but saw nothing. Seemed whatever had been in the bushes had left. "Looks clear.

Calder had already wasted enough time when Barth had been more successful than he had. He wanted to show he could be useful too, and this was all turning into making him useless when things like being an asset were valuable. If Barth could be successful on his own, then why would he need his boilfriend around?

Stomach twisting at the thought, he strode right up that mountain.

Calder set Barth down slowly. There was no point in risking both their lives, and the ground was so fragile that too much weight seemed like a very bad thing.

Walking slowly, he held his breath and moved.
