Dear journal,

Another kill for Minerva, we may need to have a break for a few days. She seems to be getting tired.

Dear journal,

Met a rather odd Oblivionite. She strangely reminded me of Eku when he was younger...

A x H A P P Y x E N D I N G

Minerva had decided to end her expedition in the desert earlier than expected and as such had returned to her home and left Esmeralda to return to the Celestial Plane by herself. Upon her return work was hectic, people needed her and she was sure the elders wish she hadn’t left at all. In all honesty she felt somewhat like life was passing her by much too fast. She hadn’t expected her life to end up like this, in fact she’d imagined something completely different for herself and it just wasn’t coming along as she’d expected.

Esmeralda wished her marriage had been a union for eternity, it had ended with Ekundayo disappearing and never to be heard of again. She could get married again, but no one appealed to her and those that did come forward with interest only wanted her because of her status and knowledge. It wasn’t love it was foolishness. She’d wished that she’d had more children, something that was not possible now considering she had no one by her side. She loved Minerva dearly but more children would have been nice to have. She wished that she’d been a more active member of the Dovaa society, though her works were brilliant she felt they lacked.

Perhaps Esmeralda was simply reminiscing on the little things, things that didn’t matter. She knew she shouldn’t dwell on the past but she was getting so old and lonely and she felt that was all she had left. Granted she wasn’t as old as she thought, she still had plenty of years ahead of her so maybe if she just opened herself up to the possibility she would be remarried and she would have more children. It just seemed like an impossibly difficult task at the moment. She was going to have to work on that.

The Peisio Dovaa sat in her large office looking out the window, sitting in front of her desk were her three apprentices who were, one by one, reading their notes and findings to her since she’d been gone on vacation. They didn’t know she was barely listening to them. It wasn’t because she wasn’t interested but it was simply because she was going to have to read the same reports later on. They’d wanted an audience and she’d given it to them as soon as possible, she couldn’t fault them for wanting to please her with their work.

She simply had to find something to occupy her mind with, a goal she could work on. And then it hit her, there was one thing that she had not done yet that all the master Dovaa could do. Dragon form. Esmeralda slowly turned to her apprentice a smile growing on her face that only prompt the current reader to read on with much more enthusiasm now. Yes, she could work on her dragon form. It was hard work, she knew this but Esmeralda also knew that she was capable.

“Alright alright, hand me your work. I need time alone now.”
With the apprentice gone, Esmeralda began to plan.

Quote:
Everyone in their life experiences a point where someone or something is in their way, underestimating them, judging them unfairly, holding them back. Whatever form it takes, it leaves a lasting impression, and even after massive achievements, these kinds of things can still linger at the back of a person's mind. Who has wronged your character in the past? Who does your character most feel they still have something to prove to, if only to rub their successes in this person's face?

RP your character looking back on the successes and pains of their life to date, considering their relationships in full and what they need to do to move on from their past regrets or - if appropriate - exact a little much-deserved revenge. Do you go seeking an encounter out? Or perhaps your character simply runs into this person who has never valued or judged them adequately - how do you cope, and what helps your character to move on from the injustices of their younger years to the poise and power befitting of a true master of their art?

Esmeralda looked across the ocean horizon as the sun rose from its slumber. The Peisio yawned softly, eyes half closed from sleep threatening to take over. She had decided to get up herself to look at the sunrise for no particular reason. Esme settled herself down on the white sand and then leaned back on her forearms. She was not dressed to be out at this time but she would be warming up soon enough, the sun was simply taking his sweet time getting up there. This moment made her reflect on her past, her achievements and the wrong turns she had taken.

The Dovaa had been looking into her dragon form, only to find out there was a road block. She had found out that Erisi was the one to speak to among the Peisio if she wanted to learn more about obtaining her dragon form. God forsaken Erisi and his meddling ways. That man had been throwing wall after wall in front of her since she had been young and defied him. Here he was now, stone walling her at every turn. She should never have asked for his help that one day, if she had not he would not have been so intent on following her the rest of her life.

Erisi had tried to get her expelled as a scholar, talking behind her back and making things up so people looked down upon her. Then he had talked to her parents, which had been the epitome of his meddling. Esmeralda, years later, still could not believe she might not have ended up with Ekundayo because of him. He had attacked her and her daughter because she was a Hybrid, making sure that whenever Minerva was in the Celestial Plane that a single move would get her banished forever if she did something wrong.

Could not he simply be happy for her? Of course not, even though she was a great scholar now and had achieved more than most in her lifetime he still could not forgive her. What Esmeralda did not understand was why he was so angry with her. Yes she had left the battler path behind, but had not she proven her worth time and time again. Just because she had not married a Dovaa did not mean she was worth less. Still, she was going to have to confront him about this if she wanted her information about her dragon form.

The Peisio did not take an appointment, did not bother forewarning anyone that she would be arriving in his office. She simply barged in to his office and stared the old man down. It looked like he was giving a lesson to some of the younger Peiosio Dovaa’s. They all turned to look at her wondering what was the problem, but Esmeralda gave Erisi a cool look. He knew what she wanted; they had all talked so he must have known she was coming for him sooner or later. He dissed them and sat himself down on his chair. Once all the children were gone she motioned for her to take a seat.

“Well, well, well. Look who has returned to the roost.”

“Save the sarcasm for someone else. You know why I am here.”

“Indeed, there has been talk you have been looking into your dragon form. I have had to pay great money to find information on your behalf. You have become quite the recluse since Ekundayo has died.” He was rubbing the fact that her husband was dead in her face; Esmeralda walked towards his desk and took a seat. She was not afraid of him any longer.

“Good, you have no business snooping in my affaires Erisi.”

“You had such potential and you wasted it away. You would have been a magnificent battler Esmeralda, but you had to become a lowly scholar. Then you spat in the face of the Dovaa race by marrying an Oblivionite of all people! Only to have a child with him.”

Esmeralda stood then, glaring down at the old Dovaa with hate.

“I have done much more than you ever will; I think you are jealous of me. I have advanced the Dovaa race with my research; I have saved more lives in the past and future than you ever could with my knowledge. The Dovaa people rejected me when I was younger, I could never have married someone who pointed and laughed at me in my childhood for being a weakling! Ekundayo loved me for who I was and gifted me with a brilliant daughter who will one day be a mage to be reckoned with. And you know the best part of this? She will be stronger than you and I both because of her uniqueness. You spit on change when you should be embracing it, this is why you have become obsolete and you will tell me how to perform the dragon ritual. ”

“Child you do not know what you speak of!” In his anger he had thrown a ball of water at her which Esme deflected with ease.

“Did you not hear my words? You are obsolete. Give me what I want or I will take this up with Marcus.”

“Do not dare threaten me.”

“Oh I am doing much more than threatening you Erisi. I will make sure you lose your office, your title and replace you. This is your last chance.”

“Find someone else.”

“It is your undoing.”

Esmeralda gave him a smug look and turned her back before leaving the office.

“Wait.” He called from inside his office and Esmeralda paused.

“I will give you what you want,” he said reluctantly. “I’ll have everything sent to your office.”

“Thank you.”

Threatening an elder probably had not been the smartest thing to do, but she’d had no choice. He had to show him she was a strong and powerful woman now, one that he should not mess with and certainly not one he could manipulate anymore.

Happy with how things had turned out, Esmeralda returned to her small home on the Celestial Plane. She was not surprised to find out that Erisi had been keeping tabs on her and she figured it was out of jealousy. He had wanted her to be his apprentice and she had rejected him, something no one else would have done considering Erisi was a well-known Peisio in the community. She was happy she had not stayed with him however, she would never have been able to achieve as much as she did without him. It had been a bumpy road to knowledge but she had made it out alive.

Ekundayo had helped her so much. He had been the pillar in her life to stabilize things even if sometimes it had not always been easy with him either. Without him she would not have become the woman she was today and thus would not have achieved as much. Esmeralda felt at peace now with the idea of him being gone forever, it had been years but she felt he was ready to put him behind for good. His last gift to her had been the best thing in her life.

Minerva was now the driving force in her life. Everything Esmeralda did, she did for her. She was now the pillar in her life but Esme was hoping to be the pillar in her daughter’s life as she helped her growth into an amazing young woman. Minerva had been there when Eku had left them and she knew how Esmeralda had felt. She had lost her father at a young age after all and the Dovaa was going to make sure she was going to have her mother for as long as possible. She was not going anywhere and Erisi would not stop her.

Esmeralda knew that she was a master in her arts. She had proved herself in front of the council when they had given her work a review. She had even gone out of her way to make sure her information was accurate and well documented. She had not left any holes uncovered to give them room to judge her wrongly. They had given her the title she had wanted in the end and she was going to reap those rewards. She felt like she was invincible. Well, not invincible, more like nothing could stop her now.

Even her family who had once stood in her way were now walking along side of her. They had accepted Ekundayo very well and her as well. They had always been supportive but she felt that it was at arm’s length. The younger generations were much more open, her nieces and nephews were a rambunctious little group.

Esmeralda sat down in her living room and gazed out the window, people passed by and she watched them. Maybe she would move back to the Celestial Plane and take her rightful place, no more cowering and hiding. She was a master after all, it was about time she started acting like it.
