Madison remained tense as she followed the others to their destination. Obviously, there had been Hunters here before who had been overwhelmed (or had to leave in a hurry, which probably amounted to the same thing). The thought was seriously not reassuring...
... but there was a lot of possibly useful stuff here, just left behind, and they would be stupid not to make use of anything they could get. Madison wrapped her scarf over her head and then around her face, so that the only part of her head that was visible was a slit for the eyes. She also shrugged her coat up over her shoulders, grateful for the extra fabric to protect her skin. The sandstorm was like nothing she'd ever experienced before. It was brutal, in subtle ways.
Quietly, the trainee began to search, but the scarf kept coming untucked and suddenly she'd wasted five minutes on getting the damn thing to stay put. Ugh.

Something caught Madison's eye - a bit of color in the lee of a large tangle of damaged tarp. She hurried over to it and pulled out a cell phone, quickly tucking it away in her obi.

Madison knelt and heaved up on the clump of tarps, sand streaming free, the wind whipping most of it right back at her. Just in case there was something underneath...
There wasn't.

Madison abandoned the wad of tarps and moved on, hunching her shoulders and keeping her head down grimly. Kouki was silent in her mind - he didn't approve of all this sand flying through the air either. She wondered how the others were doing...
Sand in front of her shifted suddenly, and half a dune tumbled away under the breeze. She saw the sudden bit of color and dove for it, coming up with a FEAR scanner in her hands.

The sand cascaded around her as she tried to get up; she had to waste several minutes on not letting the shifting dune bury her like it had done with the scanner. Once she was free, though, she put the scanner safely away and kept going. Time was short but she might be able to find one more thing...

Madison was tiring, though - slogging through the sand, not to mention the extreme conditions of the sandstorm were both taking a toll. At least she'd found a few things. Hopefully they'd be helpful and reveal useful information about those who'd been here before, and what had happened to them...

"Thanks," Tedan panted as he headed slowly back toward the group, still keeping an eye out for more swarms. He was not about to let these damn monsters get to the others ... There! Some kind of bee ... somethings. The Sun trainee wasn't sure, but still, he charged straight into the swarm. "Get away you ... ah! Ow, ********!!" he yelped as the insects started stinging him. He could feel his shield eroding further, and shook his head at a sudden wave of dizziness. Almost there ... almost. SUN HP: 7/40 Current Buffed: 4 Taken down: 14 Total: 41 Time: 5/30

"No problem! Watch your back!" Ryan said, giving the sun hunter a nod and leaving him again to go in search of Tedan and the others. Now that another moon trainee came to help Bix, he could return and help the others. The fact that he had left them behind before didn't really sit well with the moon trainee. Not when he had already taken a fair amount of damage.
Running back, he spotted them, still fighting off a fair share of the bugs. One of which was coming up from behind the sun hunter.
"Look out!" He yelled, picking up his pace to get in between the two and smacking the creature back.

Jordan spotted a Moon coat through the swirl of sand - good, the guy didn't seem to be busy with anyone right now. "Hey," he called out, "could you give me a hand so I can focus on squishing the bugs?" He gave the guy a friendly grin, forgetting it wouldn't be visible under the scarf across his face. Ryan heard the call, but it took him a moment to figure out that it was directed at him. When he did clue in, he turned to see a vaguely familiar trainee.
"Ah you're---" He paused, trying to re-call his name. It was on the tip of his tongue and yet he couldn't remember. "I'm sorry, who are you again?" He asked sheepishly, moving closer to help fend off the bugs as the sun hunter had requested. One of which lunged forward.
"Behind you!" He yelled, running forward to meet it before it could throw all of its weight at Jordan.

"I'm Jordan," Jordan offered. "Nice to meet you. You're - er - " he dredged a name out of his memory, hoping it was the right one. "Ryan, right?"
Ryan smacked one of the creatures out of the air from behind Jordan, and he dodged to the side and brought Ferros down on another patch. "Thanks," he added. "You're good."

Ah! Right! That was the name!
"Yeah, you have better memory then me, that's for sure." He snorted, pulling his own scarf a little higher over his face. Anything to stop himself from accidentally eating sand.
"Glad to be of some help." He answered, spotting another bug moving in for the attack. It was quicker than the last, but he managed to rake his claws against it and slow its pace a little, but he doubted it was enough to stop it.
"s**t! Jordan watch out!"

"Nah, I just heard someone talking to you earlier," Jordan said cheerfully. "I'll remember now, though." "Got it," he answered, and spun to slam Ferros into the things that were trying to take him by surprise. The dragon was practically purring; he was feeding well, and the sense of heat radiating from him was growing, though the surrounding air was cold. "Oh well, that works too." He answered about to say something along the same lines. Instead he ended up making a small gagging noise when some sand found its way past his scarf and into his mouth.
Great, on top of being dry, he was going to taste grit for the remainder of the day. He really hated deserts.
Ryan watched as the sun hunter took the bug like creature out with ease, suddenly feeling reassured that perhaps they were going to make it back without anyone seriously hurt. Then again, that could change if they were overcome by an even larger swarm.
:Forget that and concentrate on the ones here now. You can focus on the future ones later when they're actually here.: Locke scolded.
"Its a little hard when it feels like everyone that dies, is being replaced by ten more." He said, unintentionally speaking his thoughts out loud while blocking the path of another good sized bug.

"Yeah, you can say that again." The swarms felt like they were getting bigger, and in the deepening dusk, they were getting harder to see. Some of the bugs were making it past Jordan's and Ryan's guard, their bites painful even through layers of cloth.
Still, the bigger swarms made it easier to swing Ferros straight through the thickest clusters of insects, crushing them with careless ease. The hammer's red glow shone through the swarm, lighting it up, but only for brief moments.
