Before Before even got through the portal he'd already learned something: Portals liked him a lot. Like, it liked him so much that it spat him out last, or at least one of the last. He'd managed to catch the tail end of Aria's instructions though, thankfully. He'd stumbled on the debris, nearly tripping on a piece of rubble but managed to right himself at the last minute.

That was when Before was immediately assaulted by this thick wall of heat and humidity. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu- okay so maybe it was a bad idea to bundle up the way he had. ******** that "maybe" s**t, it was terrible. Period. Like most of the others, he'd removed the unnecessary layers of fur and tied the sleeve around his waist. (An act his mother would have killed him for if she ever found out but then he's technically dead already so that was moot.)

He felt his blood chill, however, when he heard H's voice. His stomach knotted and he broke into a cold sweat that left his skin clammy. Even worse still, the Life Division leader was using his last name. ******** ******** ******** ********, he was BEFORE damn it! But then he remembered Clarice's advice: Ignore him. So the former Lifer did just that. He avoided eye contact, trying to keep to the stained walls, trying not to stumble on the uneven floor, trying not to dwell too much on the stains and whether or not they would find who made them.

Which apparently was what Sasha seemed to be trying to do, along with most of the Mistys. He quickly joined the other trainees in trying to remove the barricades. While at the same time turning to Sasha to quietly suggest: "We should check if there are any other runic equipment on the other side of this barricade."

Hesitantly but just as quietly, he asked Candace "Is it cool with you guys to help look for survivors?"

Cass looked to Marcus when he pipped up about them moving the debris they were moving over to the barricade, looking to the others, then back to the acting Moon-Lead.

"Gotcha!" she said, looking over to the other trainees who were with her - including the new additions of Sasha and Before. "Looks like Marcus would like it if we moved this Debris over to help with their barricade they have going. Shall we?" she offered. It didn't seem like a problem to her.

To Before and Sasha, she shrugged lightly. "Its more like we're helping you guys find survivors, since that was your objective. No need to ask!" she answered with a small nod, making a point to start shifting some of the debris towards where the Moon Division was working.

Emma went about her assigned task with no hesitation and no questions. She bent to push a heavy desk toward the building barricade, bolstering it from behind. There had been no grand explanation yet as to what they were meant to accomplish, but she was beginning to learn. Each faction had a role, it seemed, and the moons right now were meant to set up blockades.

<< What use am I? What use are any of us at a time like this? >>

It seemed that Zothikos was somewhat offended to just be lashed to its user's back.

Oh, please. There's going to be something dangerous down one of these holes, and you know it.

"It's as Cass said," Candace pushed a couple of chairs aside, then began to drag a table away from the door. She heard Marcus' request for things to make a barricade with and nodded in acknowledgment while pushing things closer in his direction. "It's Life's task to look for survivors anyway. This seems as good a place as any for them to be." Candace said to Before and Sasha. She was glad to see the other Mists in her squad doing their part as well. They were following her! It was an almost surreal feeling even if this was simply a training experience. How could Aria not like this?

Grabbing two of the chairs, Marcus went to moving them on either side of the gaping hole. they could adjust the set up as needed for now.

The two chairs were light weight and made of metal. They were the standard fold-up chairs, commonly seen and used as emergency extra seating for church, weddings, band rehearsals, and all matter of we're about to run out of seating so we better get these things in here. They weren't very sturdy, but pro wrestlers often utilized them as an emergency bludgeoning device when in the ring, usually after someone passes them one after the person who was sitting in said emergency seating got up at the wrong time to use the bathroom and just missed out on the spectacular bludgeon.

Stepping over a piece of broken wood and mangled metal, Gale motioned towards the dark haired hunter and moved in front of the computer that seemed the least damaged.

"Not...sure," he murmured, mostly to himself, and the silver banded ring on his left index finger glowed slightly, humming in Gale's mind. He reached out and took ahold of the system unit of the computer, peering around the back of it and moving a few cords around experimentally.

Jiggling the cords themselves did nothing. Gale could jiggle them in and out all he liked, but the computer remained cold and lifeless. There were quite a lot of smaller cords plugged into the back of the machine, many diving behind the counter that the good Dr. H was sitting on and disappearing into the wedge between wall and counter. Perhaps there were a couple cords missing from it? There were certainly enough large spaces on the back of the machine to suggest so.

It was during this quick plan that she looked around, but it wasn't until after she realized how..ruined the place was. These stains...damn, it was like a large-scale version of the Mist lounge. Candace frowned. "What a mess..." She sighed, tugging at her scarf to unwrap it from around her neck. The blocked door was certainly interesting. What was in there? "We're free to check out anywhere, ma'am?" Candace asked Aria before she heard a voice that made her heart race. <******** hell, just his voice.

It certainly was interesting, considering some of the furniture was blocking access to it. There were several pieces of heavy-looking furniture that would require more than one person to move should anyone wish to remove said objects, for instance.

Ice Queen
"This seems... deliberate," she said, only to feel a bit stupid, since she was stating the obvious. "I mean, why destroy that computer yet leave this one somewhat whole?" She frowned, then went to work trying to get the monitor to turn on. Had there been something on that computer that wasn't on the others?

"If it seems so, then it probably is," Aria commented as she came up behind Sydney, looking over her shoulder. "With luck the hunters stationed here created a network, enabling all of the computers to share data. But it seems odd that one was outright smashed and the other two left alone, doesn't it?" Aria didn't offer further comment as she turned, returning to her search.

Random Artist

There was still the hole on top, an impossible height for Saya, even if she had multiplied three times over. Hm, was there a ladder? Saya looked around for a ladder, deciding that the other moon division would probably try to cover the lower holes. If she fell, she only hoped her padded clothes, as warm as they were starting to be, formed a padding of sorts.

There wasn't a ladder in immediate view. It looked as if the room they were in served multiple purposes, from an on-site lab to a living area, to a kitchenette. A storage room it was not.

With a delicate grunt and purpose in her movements, Sasha moved towards the furniture that was barricading the door which led to the bedrooms and restrooms, where she promptly did her best to move the smaller pieces aside.

Metal chair, chair, chair, night stand, lamp. While moving these items away from the main pile, Sasha was forming a smaller heap of wreckage behind her. At least most of the smaller pieces were gone. All that was left were three tables and two couches. One of the tables was broken in half. The other two tables were tipped on their sides as some sort of poor man's barricade. Either way, the tables and couches would require at least two people to scoot it aside, four people to lift and move it away at minimum.

Aria came over and frowned, looking at the heavier items. "I wouldn't consider moving that if I were you," she told those gathered around, pointing at the ground. "Look at the debris. Haven't any of you noticed how unsteady your footing is? If you lift and try to walk over this, you'll quite easily loose your footing or get one of those heavier pieces of furniture caught on something. It's any wonder that nobody hasn't turned their ankle yet. Clean up the debris before moving the furniture."

chimarii

Mindlessly, she grabbed a few more broken boards and started piling them near Marcus' chairs. She hoped they wouldn't be here long.

The broken boards stacked on top of the chairs made a rather shabby-looking table. It would be possible to stack something on top of these, however there was the risk of the boards snapping and breaking beneath any added weight...

iloveyouDIE
Despite his joking Bix's eyes scanned the room. He scanned the holes and positioned himself between 2 of them. "Get between those other holes." He motioned with his fingers. "Hopefully we'll be able to see if anything is coming."

All was quiet.

Lucyal
As Candace started to move some of the heavier things from the bedroom area, Molly helped as well. Man, swinging that lance around did wonders for the heavy furniture moving. The young woman fell silent as she concentrated at the task at hand. One thing at a time…

Scraaaaaaaape went the heavy furniture against the floor. The movement did push some of the debris out of the way, but their progress was halted as pieces of the debris jammed itself under the furniture, preventing it from being moved any further. At least it was moved?

demon_pachabel
Like Candace and Molly, Cass began to help moving the debris blocking the way towards the residential area.

Screeeeeeeeeech. Aria threw an exasperated look over her shoulder, her attention torn from the device she was studying. "Seriously, what did I tell you?" She admonished, "You'll need to either sweep the debris out of the way, or do it the hard way and lift, risking injury." She shook her head and went back to the device, her expression darkening at what she saw on it.

Dragain

"Do you think we'll need to cover that up too?" She asked Marcus, pointing to the hole on the ceiling as approached Aria - who seemed busy with her own investigation, "Excuse me, Aria, but there seems to be a barrier around this outpost keeping the snow and wind out? What sort of a barrier is it, and does it keep anything else out?"

As she was being hailed, Aria looked up and approached Madison to glance up at the ceiling. "The barrier is pretty advanced Life technology; Dr. H could give you the specifics, otherwise yes there's a barrier to keep out the elements. As far as keeping anything else out, look." She used the device she held to point towards the holes, gesturing from the points of entry to the debris. "Look at how much wreckage is on the inside, and how the holes seem to curve in. That means that something did manage to make it into the base. One of the holes looks a bit different -- it wouldn't surprise me if something was thrown with enough force through the wall."

"As for the largest..." Aria trailed off, considering it thoughtfully. "It is quite possible that something came in and left through that same way. Don't you see how the edges of the hole looks different on both sides?" She shrugged, then handed the device she was using to Ariana. "This is a Fear detector. It was damaged a bit, but I was able to get it working. I've been able to pick up some faint traces of Fear, but..." She trailed off, shrugging. "I suggest you use it to scan anything you think looks suspicious and to keep it on. I think you'll be able to scan three things before it runs out of juice," she added thoughtfully, nodding towards it. "And if you don't use it, it'd certainly give a bit of warning of incoming danger."

unstartled witch
With that done, the Life trainee went to investigate the third hole, closer to the ground. Maybe something interesting would be through there.

Clerise would see that the hole was rather ragged, the edges covered with snow. Something had either forced its way in, or something was thrown in here. The area was also a bit discolored, giving it an impression of a wound than stationary building damage.

Zyphiris

Wiping the sweat off his brow, the mist trainee then took to examining some of the nearby equipment. The screens were covered in a rather thick layer of dust – probably a result of whatever happened in here. Wiping it clean with the sleeve of his jacket, Dillon would find the screen of a Fear Meter, prompting him to try to switch the machine on with the controls on the side.

As Dillon flicked the switch, the machine hummed... Symbols and shapes flickered across the screen, sputtering out some information before the machine seemed to wheeze and die. Perhaps it needs to be recharged? But it is a runic device... It doesn't look like it's possible to plug it into the power, even if the was a cord for it.

DarkHeartedSorrows

He quickly began muscling debris away from the door to the residential area with the rest of his team, shouldering a particularly large piece of wood out of the way. This he could handle. Orders, feeling like he was doing something good. With orders he felt more comfortable, and could almost ignore the gloom and destruction that certainly filled the room./size]

Scrip, scrape, more debris was cleared from the pile. It was a bit easier to walk around now, at least.

[ X_Bleeding Roses_X ]

He couldn’t disagree with that. Sighing he picked up a piece of plaster and added it to the pile in front of the large hole.

Plonk. The plaster cracked, but held as it was unceremoniously dropped in front of the chairs and wooden boards. It would have made a more satisfying sound if it was dropped on top of the boards that were laid across the two metal chairs, however.

Huni Pi
Which apparently was what Sasha seemed to be trying to do, along with most of the Mistys. He quickly joined the other trainees in trying to remove the barricades. While at the same time turning to Sasha to quietly suggest: "We should check if there are any other runic equipment on the other side of this barricade."

As Feng had moved some of the debris earlier, moving the heavy furniture item in question was easier. The couch they were moving was now in the middle of the room and now quite easily in everyone's way. For now.

Rabid Ice Weasel
Emma went about her assigned task with no hesitation and no questions. She bent to push a heavy desk toward the building barricade, bolstering it from behind. There had been no grand explanation yet as to what they were meant to accomplish, but she was beginning to learn. Each faction had a role, it seemed, and the moons right now were meant to set up blockades.

The desk seemed to whine against the floor as it scraped against the fallen debris. "Trainees!" Aria snapped at long last. "Do you honestly think you can move objects around when the floor is covered with debris? Shove it to one side! Clear a path before moving things!"

Aria's hands twitched at her sides. She would not bring the palm of her hand against her forehead. Not here, not now, not in front of the trainees or H.

Instead, Aria's hands went into her pockets as she glared, leveling her gaze at the barrier the Moon division had erected so far. She chose not to comment.

Prolixity

It's cold, jackdammit, Ferros complained.

Thank you, Captain Obvious. He waited for Rep and Rin to join him before choosing a direction, and pointed out the path he intended to take to the two newbie trainees. It was going to be hard to hear in this wind, but this job shouldn't require too much talking, at least. He started off on a path that would take them in a wide loop around the building.

The three would find that doing the perimeter sucked. It was cold. The wind howled and tore at them mercilessly as the snow fell relentlessly, caking their goggles and eyelashes with snow that had to be swiped away every five steps. The snow wasn't even, either. At first it was relatively easy to walk through the snow. Then it got deeper, touching their hips briefly and forcing them to wade through the chill before the snow level dipped, enabling them to walk again. There was a notable chill in their legs that their protective gear did not ward against.

They walked mostly in silence, Jordan patiently leading the two lambs around the outpost. They had passed the point of where the two holes were made in the building. On the outside, there wasn't anything out of the ordinary. There were a few trees nearby, however a quick peer into the branches revealed that there was nothing in them, not even a crow.

The group had rounded a corner when they encountered nothing. It was still much of the same, however the outside of the outpost looked certainly larger than the inside. It was as if there was a whole second wing of the outpost that they had to walk around. Possibly this was where the bedroom and bathrooms were, if there was any indication as such. There were even a couple windows, dark. But wait -- was that movement within one of them?

Baby steps, now.

At first, he hadn't felt any different. Two arms, two legs, one head, the right amount of fingers and toes, and as far as he could tell, definitely male. Once he had tried to stand and move forward, things became tricky and he got a face full of snow. It wasn't until he had pushed himself to his feet, leaning on heavy massive arms and bristling hair, he remembered the files he had obsessively memorized. Right! Right... think... think Gorilla!

The snow came up to his knuckles, and it wasn't until he registered the trees around him did he realize... Goodness, he was BIG.

Alright. Alright, warm up your instrument. "HURRARARARRRRGG!" He gave an experimental yell that echoed in the distance. Oop! Better not cause an avalanche.

With a deep breath, Jerry lumbered forward, trying desperately to get his bearings and get in the role. He did an experimental lunge at a tree trunk, pleasantly surprised by the wood bending and groaning. Excellent! It would be easy to throw them down!

He heard a noise through the mist of airborne snow, but the golem was designed for this terrain. It was easy to pick out the dark shapes and sense the gentle amount of heat emitted nearby.

He took a slow breath, sitting back a moment to raise his massive hands up to his diaphragm. Alright. Show time.

Careful to move as silently as his massive temporary body would allow, the creature shifted amongst the trees, eyes locked on the flickering sight of Rin amidst the flurries. One good pounce aught to do it....

With a fresh bellow, he lumbered forward, sure to slam a shoulder into a tree on his way through, snapping it from it's frozen roots with a thunderous crash.

No sooner had the hairy monster erupted into the clearing, he knuckled forward through the deep snow, the brilliant red of Rep coming into view.

Oh, this was too perfect... but wait. If these were the new Suns... He tensed immediately, backing away as he glanced around with a growl. Jordan wouldn't be far behind... or in this case, on the other side of the fallen tree. Good. Good at least for now there was an alibi to pretend to ignore him.

Molly moved along with the current task at hand, happy to see the way clearing little by little. As Aria came their way though and seemed to be having her nerves worn short by how they ignored the debris though, Molly panicked. Dear oh dear. She didn’t want to upset her superior! Make a path for her team mates so that they could move the heavier furniture? Okay, she was all over it.

The young woman yelped, and threw herself into the task of pushing the debris off to one side, along one of the walls.

The main thing Rep found himself thinking about outside was how ******** cold he was. It was colder than he'd ever been and even the layers he'd worn seemed to be doing very little to keep out the cutting wind. Even breathing was surprisingly hard, the air feeling as if it completely lacked oxygen as it hit his lungs, even breathed through the muffled scarf in an attempt to help, it really didn't. Even the wind howling sounded horribly like a roar.

It didn't help though, he couldn't help it, expecially when even despite his efforts to stay behind Jordan, he still found himself sometimes stumbling into surprise drifts. There was only so long his rage at Aria could sustain him in this weather and he was slowly edging into the sort of cold where his brain started screaming at him to get back ******** indoors. Preferably with a damn blanket.

He was nevertheless trying to keep some semblance of an eye out around the area, finding himself rendered more paranoid and serious than usual by the thought of getting seriously injured out here in this, mortality feeling very real in the middle of an arctic blizzard. He froze for a second, terror running an even icier hand down his spine as he could have swore he saw something in the building. He was about to say something when he was duly interrupted by a crash that made him YELP in a very un-manly fashion.

"The ********?" was about all he could even manage to yell as he backed up as much as the snow would allow, summoning up Tracey in pure instinct, eyeing that very /nasty/ looking tree that had missed them and then the much more /urgent/ impossible creature that had felled it.

Damnit! The last thing Candace had wanted was to piss off Aria. So it was with a disappointed sigh she pouted as they were reprimanded for not clearing out all the debris first; she just had to remember this was training and she could make mistakes here. "We'll clear the debris and let Before and Sasha take care of the furniture until we get a clear path, okay?" Candace told her Mists, glad Molly was already taking initiative and going for it. Candace joined in, pushing debris out of the way to clear as much of the floor space as possible, she was also sure to check each piece for any scratches are descernable marks that could be some kind of clue.

It was during this she swore she heard a very faint rumble and paused in her work, frowning as she looked around. Did anyone else hear that? It didn't sound like the wind...maybe? "...Did anyone else hear a really distant howl just now?" Candace gave the holes in the walls a wary look.

Rins thoughts were less on the cold... more on psyching herself up with all the warm things she can look forward to as soon as it was over. Damn she wanted so badly to be back on the island right now. Lazily sipping on a mug of hot cocoa with her feet up and every inch of her covered in heavy warm blanket. Smiling fondly to herself... if only... a little bit further okay?... Only a lit-

She nearly lept out of her skin as tree abruptly flew past intruding on their journey. Snow plowing aside under it's weight, gaze quickly shooting around for the source. The massive behemoth enough she swung Byr around to feebly keep it at a distance. Holding him between herself and the creature. Backing up towards where she last recalled Repent to be standing.

What the ******** IS that thing?! She hadn't dared even try shouting out loud. Not that she could be heard over the grappling wind, but she also wasn't about to draw the creatures ire. Quietly hoping the colour red stood out better than green to... it. Whatever it was.

Despite it all, she still stood her ground. Byr between her and the beast. Gaze shooting between it and seeking frantically for the others in her small party.

Please don't see me.

The hint of motion inside one of the windows of the complex caught Jordan's eye; he paused, staring at the window and trying to decide whether he'd really seen something or whether wind and snow had fooled his peripheral vision. It might be worth investigating; it wouldn't take long to have a closer look.

An echoing howl caught his attention; the wind, or something more dangerous? The wind-howl was constantly fluctuating, a low whistling sound gradating to a moan that rose to something that almost resembled a scream. But the sound he'd heard had had a rougher edge to it, unlike the slow steady change of the sound in the wind. He swung Ferros down off his shoulder, angling the hammer to the side and slightly back, a stance that anyone who'd sparred or fought with him would recognize.

When the tree came thundering down into the snow between Jordan and the new trainees, it wasn't entirely a surprise. He threw his free arm across his face to keep the burst of snow kicked up by the impact from blinding him. As his vision cleared, he saw the yeti; his eyes narrowed as he recognized the type. Similar to the creature that had attacked the Moon gathering at Christmas; matching the photos and descriptions in the file he'd read last night. He ran though the information rapidly in his head.

The tree was too large to ignore. It would delay his attack on the thing. Going around it would take more time than scrambling over it, with the snow to consider. In the meanwhile, Rin and Rep could take the creature on. Both of them had frozen in surprise or fear; Jordan took a deep breath (a rapid flash of long-ago memory from church choir, put your diaphragm into it!) and shouted, "YETI! GO FOR THE HIND LEGS AND THE EYES! MOVE IT, YOU TWO!"

Then he took hold of the rough bark of the fallen tree and started hauling himself over.

Jordan's voice was about all Rep needed to snap him out of his moment of terror, cursing himself for freezing when it counted and determined to make up for it as he made every effort to charge forward to attack the creature, a creature he could hardly ******** believe existed despite all the evidence of his eyes. They definately didn't show these ******** on animal planet. Running though was damn hard when there was snow drifts everywhere and it was only with a flurry of effort and indignant rage at his own hesitation that propelled him through the snow and wind, Tracey's weight even MORE of a burden here with so much ******** wind resistance.

He snarled, a sound that was completely eaten up by the elements as he swung the axe aloft to try and get some momentum to cleave into the creature with.

Only for the winds to catch the blade of Tracey like a sail and knock him backwards ingloriously into the snow.

"Sorry, Ma'am!" she apologized

Cass frowned for a moment, but soon shrugged it off and made a point of going for the Debris that littered the area and blocked the movement of the furniture and the doors. The intermediate trainee began to carefully scoot the debris on the floor out of the way to clear the floor along with Molly and Candace. Every now and then she'd try and move particularly big pieces of it towards the working Moon Division to use.

When the order came, loud and unmissable, Rin obeyed. Snapping out of her fearful daze she charged at the creature... well, as best as she could charge in snow that almost came up to her knees. Still, she swung Byr around with all her might as soon as she was sure she was in range, aiming for the creatures leg as ordered.

... She... wasn't in range though. Even with goggles, depth perception was something that happened to other people. Byrs blade whizzing right past the leg. The momentum causing her to fall face forward into the snow at the beasts foot.

Or at least, the yeti's heart was in his throat? Whatever. He quickly shook off the butterflies of the near misses, giving a fresh snarl as a massive fist swung around to slam Rin deeper into the snow.

No hard feelings, Miss. It was just a mission. She'd be fine, he assured himself.

Even so, he lifted his fist back up with a curious "Hurrrr?" as though having just swatted a fly and examining the mess.
