Cinder turned her attention to Amon as he spoke up, her eyes flickered to the eyepatch a moment before stepping over. She was admittedly curious about his eye almost immediately, reminding herself that the medical technology on gaia wasn't the same as from her home she decided to not ask about it for the moment. Flashing a smile she picked up the soda she'd set aside earlier as she introduced herself, "Nice to meet you, I'm Cinder. Not a guardian but I help support three of them so," she shrugged slightly.

"I'm sure I'll see you around more today," lifting one of the twelve packs in a parting wave Cinder headed over toward the refreshment table.

Rhys dipped his finger in the sambal taking a little bit of the red sauce he'd been warned about and popping it in his mouth to taste. Blinking a few times he gulped letting his eyes water a moment, "once you get pat the intense burning it's not so bad..." shifting his gaze over toward Miranda he took a moment to gather his thoughts. He knew that Cinder kept the Warhammer cloaked for various good reason, but fiend guardians seemed to be an exception, after all they had their shadows that they didn't want the wrong people to know about either. "Cinder's ship, she's a pilot."

Cinder dropped the cans off near the end of the refreshment table, pulling a couple cans from the tall Szaldarian brews and one of the soda she knew Rhys preferred. Turning she paused picking up on the conversation before moving in to interject into it, "Don't let him fool you ladies, he can fly it just as well as I can. I'm Cinder by the way." Cinder smirked a little glancing to Rhys and offering him over the soda, shifting her gaze back to the two ladies he was speaking with she smiled and offered one of the tall dark cans of alien beer to Miranda, "I was told you would want to try this," glancing over to Anais she offered her a can as well, "brought you one too, since I was passing drinks out this way."

Rhys flushed at his mother's endorsement and cleared his throat setting his plate down on the table next to him he opened the can she'd brought him, "uhm thanks..." glancing over he paused before deciding that Cinder would have said something if it wasn't alright to talk about the Warhammer. "...I'm not sure you'd really get the full idea unless...you saw the ship." Afterall not many would believe that there was one let alone two spaceships parked on their property.

Mystic gave Nephrite a lazily smug sort of look as she toyed with his hair, but remained silent for the most part. 'Hmm. Tempting as that may be, I honestly can't say what I would do with such sweets even if I had them,' he pondered aloud as he rested his chin in one hand. 'Perhaps just feed them to the ever growing darkness and fae folk that run amuck.'

Athan shot him a sidelong glance and paled considerably. Clearly, he had not been doing a very good job at keeping tabs on the eldest. So familiar and strange…

Reyna glanced towards Athan and smirked, much to his chagrin. She actually kind of liked Mystic all grown up and weird. He was much more entertaining this way, and he wasn't nearly so shy or reserved. She figured she'd have to endure one of Athan's "talks" later on, but for the moment she was content to enjoy the party. For the most part, at least.

'Well hello there. It seems you have grown smaller while I've grown larger,' he remarked as he watched Bloodstone twirl about his fingertips in greeting. 'That is a shame.'

His gaze turned back towards Tektite and he arched a brow. 'I am no Seer, so while I cannot predict your size or whether you will form specific appendages, I would wager that you will both grow larger and potentially grow feet. While not practical, they are… mostly optional.'

The key word was mostly. He had a bit of trouble as of late with shifting and changing forms. He was fairly certain that he was once again on the precipice of some sort of cataclysmic change. What it was he was going to change into was the question. He wasn't entirely certain what he would become, and from the looks of Athan's pale face, it seemed his maker was not certain either.

Three!” Amon exclaimed. For a moment he remained silent, considering the way just Neph on her own had managed to turn his life upside down. And he was very much aware she was actually one of the ‘nice’ and comparatively harmless fiends. While he usually pretended to ignore Neph’s happy chatter about the happenings at the shop, he actually paid close attention. “Lively household then, probably. You must have nerves of steel.” Striking pretty close to home, actually, though he certainly wasn’t aware of it.

“Talk to you later.” At the very least, he hoped that was the case. She intrigued him, and the curious flicker towards his eye patch had not quite escaped his attention. While he rarely ever (well, basically never) told the truth about how his right eye had gone missing, it certainly was as good af a conversation starter as any.

“A pilot …” Miranda blinked, her confusion blatantly obvious. Because, well, shouldn’t the term be ‘captain’, or ‘helmsman’ or anything like that? Except, of course … “Oh … Ohhh! It’s a spaceship?! Really? That is so awesome!” People with airships she knew plenty, even though her conservative parents frowned much at that kind of half-magic technology, it was pretty much commonplace on Gaia. But a spaceship?! She didn’t know a single person who had one.

“It is a spaceship, right?” Miranda repeated once Cinder had introduced herself, staring at her in awe. So this was what a real spaceship captain looked like. She only gave the can offered by her only a fleeting glance (it was given to her by a real spaceship captain, after all!) before she pulled it open and took a sip. Its contents were deceptively sweet, but she did taste the alcohol within. “That is ...” She glanced at the can, but the writing on it was nothing she’d be able to decipher. “Is this something alien?” She took another sip, this time a larger one, unaware of just how much alcohol the brew contained. “It’s tasty!”

For a moment there, Nephrite just plain stared at Mystic. What he said didn’t make much sense to her, for the most part. ‘What fae folk?’ she asked eventually. She wasn’t quite sure what darkness would do with cookies. Darkness was just dark, the (preferable) opposite of it being bright, and not doing much of anything. And certainly not liking on cookies, not that she was aware of. She withdrew her hand, all of a sudden wary of the elder fiend, especially with how pale Athan had grown. Something … wasn’t quite right, instinct told her. She hesitated for a moment, before she reached out again, resting first her left hand tenderly against Mystic’s chest, and then her head as well, as if trying to listen to the elder's heartbeat. Skin against skin, with Amon (and others) that had always helped her to feel what they felt.

"School. Well, that's good. I wish I'd been more studious when I was younger. It certainly would have been helpful. would save me a fortune on accounting too." Working on a ship, that was pretty interesting too. Like Miranda she was immediately thinking of the kind that floats in water. She wasn't sure she would have pegged him for the mechanic type. They were usually rather full of themselves. Or at least in her experience.

When the redheaded lady revealed it was a spaceship he was talking about, Anais' eyes widened. Okay, so that was seriously cool.
"Well, pilot, you should certainly through that into conversation when talking to ladies." She grinned and gave him a teasing wink. "You'd have them at your feet."

She reached out to take the drink from Cinder, it looked rather interesting but she was not one to turn down a drink.
"Thanks, I'm Anais." She smiled and opened the can up

Dio watched Mystic move away and his eyes settled on the Athan man. His pierced eyebrow quirked upward a little bit at his obvious distress. The black fiend looked toward Auntie Reyna and he drifted back over to her, giving her another hug. He then brushed his face against her cheek, in a pantomime of someone giving a kiss. It would have been impossible for him to really kiss her, since he had no lips. 'I'll be back, don't do anything I wouldn't do.' The teenager released her and zipped off toward his chosen prey.

He circled around behind Athan and slipped his arms around him and rested his chin on his shoulder. 'Hello Athan man.' Dio's tail swung behind him happily as he latched himself to the magic user. 'You look unhappy, so I thought I'd come cheer you up!'

Vance eyed Algie's hand and reached out taking it to shake with him. Most people tended to avoid him because of his incredibly odd appearance. Gaia was indeed a melting pot of oddities, but most people did not have half a snakes body. "Ah, well I used to live with Merci. Until she needed room, then she sorta tossed us out." He paused for a moment and his blindfolded face was turned toward the wizard, obviously giving him a look over. "I'm Vance."

Merci rolled her eyes. "I did not just toss you out. I gave you the guesthouse, which has more then enough room for all of you." She turns to look at Algie, "Don't listen to him, he has a martyr complex since he got Sulfur."

Vance growled a bit, "Cause I don't WANT her."

The fox woman turned on him and her ears flattened out against her head and she stepped closer to her medusa. "You have her, you can't get rid of her. Just accept it and move on. You're going to give her a complex. Now, be civil long enough for us to enjoy this party. You can go back to being a miserable b*****d when we're at home." Her eyes narrowed at him warningly when he opened his mouth again. Vance just hissed and his coils tightened in his ire.

Accepting the plate, she sniffed at it, nothing, absolutely nothing tasted as good as fresh meat prepared vet an open flame. Rolling her eyes a little the cat girl gestured at the seat beside her, still weary, tho confident that she would likely out run Theirn if nothing else.

"You could say becoming one with the Garden is an apt description.."

Flashing sharply pointed teeth in a wicked grin, she replied. "I of course would call it people watching, stalking my prey, gaining my bearings.... but at the moment..." She sighed, "I can't believe what we just saw, can you?"

Her ears flattened back much like a house cat caught doing something stupid, flat across the top of her head instead of laid back. Made somehow more comfortable with him because of their apparent shared embarrassment, Trivii was willing to share space with Theirn however, still aware of her escape route.

Cinder grinned a little looking to Miranda, "aye it is, though I try not to pass it around too much...makes some folks crazy." Having passed off the cans to the others she took the flask from her belt and took a drink. Grinning a little Cinder looked to Miranda, "your right it's an alien drink. Pretty good but a bit sweet for my taste."

Reaching over Cinder ruffled Rhys hair fondly, "just no unscheduled flights." There was a note of seriousness despite her good mood, after the last joyride she wasn't sure she'd be able to survive another one.

Rhys coughed slightly glancing over, "ah right," glancing over to Anais he flushed a little at the wink and suggestion, "I actually...well I don't bring it up, my wings tend to make a pretty big statement sometimes, I don't like to add to it." Glancing down Rhys concentrated on his plate, mixing the sambal with one of the other sauces and some chips he took a bit. His face contorted in a bit of shock but he found he could eat the concoction and that it wasn't that bad.

Glancing over toward Rhys a long moment Cinder looked to the two other females after a moment, "it's nice to meet you two as well but I think I'm going to make myself a plate," putting her flask back on her belt. "Just bring my boy back in once piece."

Rhys turned slightly and stared at his mother a moment before muttering and shaking his head pointedly watching his plate, his face turning redder then it had when he ate the sambal.

Watching the others talking Tek quickly got bored and started looking around for something else to do. The current group was getting boring and didn't seem to show signs of picking up. Dio's movement toward Athan drew his attention and the little shadow moved over toward the two again, slinking into the shadows behind Athan's seat and for the moment waiting.

Theirn settled on the edge of the bench giving the cat girl more room. He became keenly aware at her movements, she was still wary. Part of him was glad for her wariness it was what would keep her alive if he ever shifted near her...but another part his beast was excited. Taking a bite of his burger Theirn kept his gaze ahead for a moment, concentrating on banishing his beast back.

"It was an interesting upset..." he turned a little looking over toward Trivii, "you should keep in mind though most of the people here have shadows as well. It might have felt embarrassing...but I doubt anyone here holds you accountable for it." Theirn smiled faintly, "think of it as everyone sharing your pain a bit."

Coal drifted down from Theirn's shoulder and bumped his hand as if disagreeing with the conversation. The little wisp bumped his guardian twice before dropping down and floating along the ground out toward the others gathered.

“I can relate though, on the not wanting her,” Amon calmly interjected. “See, when I encountered Merci and Dio for the first time I was actually on my way to the shop to …” He paused, craning his neck to see if Nephrite happened to be within earshot, only to find she was snuggling up against Mystic. “To try and return a certain jade pendant,” he finished lamely. ‘Neph, I don’t like what I’m seeing.’

Amon disliked Mystic quite a bit, a sentiment he knew to be mutual. The eldest fiend did a very fine job at creeping him out endlessly. “I was convinced it had been cursed and wanted nothing more than to be rid of it.” Unfortunately, as it had turned out, both of the shop’s proprietors had been turned to stone due to some sort of malevolent spell. Speaking of which … Trying to banish Neph and Mystic from his mind for now, Amon curiously glanced over the medusa’s blindfold. “I hope you don’t mind me asking – you probably do get this a lot – is there actually something to the rumor of medusas petrifying people left and right?”

He was possibly being rude, but he was also quite paranoid about certain things and preferred to stay on top of possible unpleasant surprises. ‘Neph, can you see if you can find Ruku for me? I think it’s about time to get the bonfire started, I figured he’d probably like to have a hand in that.’ Plus, the task of looking for the other fiend would conveniently get her away from Mystic, he hoped.

“I like it sweet,” Miranda announced and nodded. “The cupcakes are mine. I mean, I made them.” She reached for her cell, idly glancing at the screen, her thumb rushing across the keys before she put it away again. Her cheeks were flushed, as if the alcoholic beverage was already starting to take effect. Only, that couldn’t possibly be, now could it. Not that quickly.

Rutie circled her head curiously, like a tiny satellite orbiting its planet. His guardian was starting to feel a wee bit strange to him.

“Can I …” Her gaze flicked from Rhys to Cinder and back to Rhys. “I mean, would it be much of a bother to … I mean … I really would like to ride a spaceship sometime.” The red on her cheeks grew ever deeper, and – mostly to cover up her embarrassment – she took another sip from the can. Which wasn’t exactly a good idea with how little she usually drank.

Merci flushed a bit and cussed quietly under her breath. She hadn't meant to snap at Vance that way. He just had a way of getting under her skin. Her ears slowly lifted a bit so they were standing at half mast and she turned her back on the Medusa working the grill. She would just have to avoid him for the rest of the night. Merci slid back over to Algie and slipped her arm through his, "Sorry for that outburst. How is your wonderful home? Oh and how is Hela doing?"

Vance just sneered at her back before he turned his blindfolded face back toward Amon. "I tried to give it back. There was another one of those crazy things there when I tried. Hawk I think it was? Anyway I ended up still taking the bloody thing home with me. It's terrible to try and get any sort of sleep with it hovering around. For ******** sake, it GLOWS." He gestured with a spatula before he turned the meat again. Vance heaved a sigh, "No offense mister, but if I'd been in your shoes, I'd just have left it on the counter and raided the cash register for my refund."

The Medusa nudged the meat around over the coals so it would cook more evenly. His coiled body seemed to relax a bit as he lost himself in the menial chore. "To answer your question, some of us can. It doesn't always work, but it's better to be safe then sorry. So we wear special blindfolds, I can see out, no one can see in." He reached up and tapped the playing card that was being held over one of his eyes. Vance's nails were long and pointed, "Wouldn't wanna accidentally do something life threatening to someone on accident. I guess it's better this way anyway, that way Merci can't see every time I roll my eyes at her." He shot Amon a smirk at his last comment. The kitsune was still in ear shot, and her ears flattened at the remark. She didn't, however, rise the the bait.

“Oh.” Amon said, and then added, rather dryly: “Hawk. Yes.” They’d had their little encounter, and he took some small satisfaction from the fact that Hawk still owed him. Unless, of course, Neph had managed to call in that favor without his knowing – which was wholly possible. “I would have,” he confessed, “without taking a refund even. The money for that pendant came out of my employer’s pocket anyway. If only she’d stayed there. No such luck though.” He shrugged. “Never asked for raising a kid, especially one that can spy on my thoughts and emotions, and walk through walls. Doesn’t work too well with my job, which is why I drop her off at the shop a whole lot.”

He rolled back his shoulders, glancing at Vance once more. Despite the obvious physical differences, he finally seemed to have encountered a kindred soul if there’d ever been one. “That is … very thoughtful of you, actually,” he said, on the matter of the blindfolds. “I figure that ability’s originally got something to do with stunning prey or something? Mind you, I’ve never met a ‘medusa’ but I’m pretty familiar with nagas and I know they used to be predators.”

“I hope you don’t mind too much having to spend the night here,” Amon added in an idle tone. From the interaction so far, he guessed Vance had had little say on the matter. “If it’s of some relief, I loathe driving, which makes me a rather careful and responsible driver.”
PostPosted: Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:54 am

Vance's body language relaxed the longer he went without taking to Merci. His long body finally shifting enough that he seemed to sit on himself rather comfortably. That is he seemed to relax till Amon mentioned children. His shoulder's tensed up again and his lip curled, rather like the face someone makes when they see something particularly repugnant. His free hand came up and he pinched the bridge of his nose, "I am not made for this kind of bullshit. Medusa children develop in eggs and are usually taken shortly after or before birth and placed with a.. home... There's a reason I've never attended the orgies, I don't want kids." He didn't really know anything about humans, or whatever was at this party. Vance had no idea that multiple sexual partners, at the same time, was odd in any way.

He shot a look at Merci's back and he growled lowly, "This is all her fault. I don't want anything to do with this but she thought she'd be funny. Play a practical joke on me that turned out to NOT be a joke." The Medusa looked at Amon and he said rather conversationally, "With friends like that, who needs enemies eh?"

Vance looked at his host for a few moments and he turned back to the meat, "We have our blindfolds specially made. From what I know, we used to be quite... Feral? I think that's the right word. I have no idea if I'd turn people to stone or not, I've never tried. Though...." His face turned and he spotted Sully floating over by another wisp. He wondered if maybe when it got older, if he could turn a fiend to stone? It might be worth a try.

Though, when the shopkeeps had been turned to stone, they got fixed. So that probably meant they could fix that thing too. Bah, maybe he'd try anyway.

The Medusa looked up, "Actually it's nice of you to let me stay. I'm not to worried about crazy driving as long as I'm not practically falling off the back of a motorcycle. My body is way to long to be comfortable on one of those things. I kept feeling like I was falling off, not a great feeling at the speeds that crazy b***h drives." He didn't apologize for his language, mostly cause he hoped if he was vulgar enough, he wouldn't have to attend any of these gatherings again in the future. He just didn't feel like doing anything that would make Sully's life easier or nicer at the moment.

Mystic seemed to exude a smug sort of amusement at Nephrite's query. His dark hands crept up to cover her hand that had been placed upon his chest before threading back through her hair in a comforting fashion when she leaned closer. He was mindful not to mess up her intricately styled bun if only because he knew how much her appearance meant to her.

'Sweetness,' he purred in a low voice, 'There are always fae folk about. They're just difficult to spot most times.' His voice was a hushed whisper against her cheek and for a moment his voice sounded far less telepathic and much more real, but the moment was fleeting. 'They hide in the darkness, and the darkness hides with them.'

He hummed quietly, content for the moment until Amon interrupted by ordering Nephrite away. He shot the man an irritated sidelong glance, but chose not to confront him. There was no need to spoil the party so early on in the evening. If the creeping, tickling shadows at the edge of his senses were of any indication, it wasn't he that would be crashing the party.

Athan was far less concerned with Nephrite snuggling up to Mystic and was much more concerned with the young Shadows that were snuggling up to and otherwise sneaking up on him. He chuckled and reached to pat Dio fondly upon one of the twined arms about his shoulders.

"Good evening, Dio," he replied with a smile, "I am well, thank you. No need to cheer me too much. How are your studies of the skies above coming along?"
