Galactic Deimos

PostPosted: Sun Apr 24, 2011 1:27 am

Deimos seemed perfectly fine with having an audience while he worked. Humming to himself, he started opening up the pokédexes, smiling at the goodies inside like he'd just torn open Christmas presents, "Ooooooh Tethys, there's 20 nanometer flash memory in here!" Still smiling, he started depositing parts in a heap beside him. Every time he finished tearing a dex apart, he rapidly rewired parts of it in strange and unconventional ways that seemed unlikely to work, but appeared to get the dexes partially operational despite their missing parts. He never made any effort to access data on the devices. The only interaction he performed on the screens was some tweaks to the wifi settings.

Once he'd disassembled all but one of the dexes, he opened the last one and started adding parts to it. He seemed to be devoting most of his attention to the small mirror array that aligned the holographic images.

She lifted a brow when he made a comment about the flash memory, but when he started to actually get to work, and Faleen sat in silence for a while, watching him closely.
He was working very quickly, despite Faleen trying to take mental notes on what he was doing, she couldn't quite keep up. this both intrigued, and GREATLY annoyed her.
He didn't seem to be doing anything that would entitle Faleen to snatch the dex away.
She leaned forward a little, keeping out of his way, but watching with an intrigued expression... despite herself...

As the silence continued, there was one idea that had been nagging at her for a while... she did have a very rare opportunity here, and Deimos didn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the kit... about human intent anyway.
"When you constructed the G-ball, I noticed there is a rapid pattern that the relay pulse seems to follow in order to keep the compartments in an active state. This translates to 60 cycles per second, though easily causes a burn out... how did you keep it stable?"

Deimos didn't look up from his work. He seemed hyper focused at the moment, gently tweaking dozens of tiny mirror plates, aligning them precisely. "Oh that was easy. I used zero-point energy instead of a standard array. Poké balls are inefficient when you think about it.. zero-point energy freezes all of the pokémon's vitals instead of regulating them. Tons more efficient. You can support a lot more of them on half the power."

"... Zero-point energy..." she repeated, after a long pause. "your using zero-point energy"
Was he messing with her? He had to be messing with her, he was the enemy after all.
She sat up straighter, not taking her eyes off what he was doing as she frowned, and blushed in annoyance.
"Accelerated generators I could almost understand." THAT sounded more like what was currently physically possible, not just theory that he was trying to shove down her throat, She wasn't buying this.

Though... when he did say that freezing pokemon's vitals was more affective then regulating them, this actually made sense... Making her even more confused.
Was he messing with her or not?

Tethys's long, thin ponytail flicked back and forth as she dusted at a streak of dirt on her coat. Whatever discomfort was felt was entirely on Claire's side.

"Very nice, sir," she replied absently, adding to her Starmie, "Assist him." Her battered Pokemon hovered over to Deimos and tilted itself down like an overhead lamp, wavering slightly in the air. It was the main reason the Galactics were unscathed by the last cave-in, and it rather looked it.

The pale woman folded her hands behind her back, eyes flicking around the cavern as she kept an ear to the goings-on. Though her back was to Deimos and Faleen, her eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of the G-Ball.

Tethys turned on her heel and stalked briskly toward Nyx, her Sableye ambling behind her in apelike fashion.

"Accelerated generators use too much power. Zero-point energy is actually useful for tons of stuff." He paused a moment, tongue tip sticking out the side of his mouth as he gently adjusted a piece that looked like a tiny nozzle aimed at the array of mirrors. Once he was done he smiled and resumed talking, "The only hard part was finishing the theory, since it was incomplete. Man I thought there'd be more mirrors in this thing... m'gonna wire more batteries in here."

Finishing the theory...? Faleen was feeling a little overwhelmed, and while her posture didn't show it, the look on her face certainly did.
She had moved past the red of her blush, to a rather chalky pale look. She didn't want to believe him, most of her didn't but with everything she's been struggling with for so long on the G-ball, what if... there was a slight chance that he was right, and everything they didn't understand about the G-ball was being explained right now.

This put them in an even more awkward position, since even though they might have the answer, there was nothing they could DO about it!

Faleen didn't say anything, unable to find any words at the moment.

Deimos continued talking, not seeming to care about Faleen's silence. He started attaching more little power cells to the pokedex, "Except for the energy change it's a normal poké ball mostly. S'just multi-chambered and all the relays are reconfigured-"

"Sir." Tethys had apparently made a quantum leap from where she'd been standing to the space beside Deimos without passing through the space between, although she'd made a brief stopover to grab the bag of sandwiches from Nyx without request, thanks, or care for any protests.

A hearty square of lettuce, deli meat and pickles between two slices of bread was thrust at him. "Your sandwich."

Deimos was instantly distracted by the sandwich shoved in his face. Talk of zero-point energy and crazy inventions derailed in favor of deliciousness. "Oh! Chicken!" He snatched the offering from Tethys' hand and happily nommed on it. (Also it was turkey).

Meanwhile, Tethys unwrapped a plastic straw, bent it at a 90-degree angle, and inserted it into a plastic-coated cardboard box with a cheery trio of Cherrim, Tropius and Ludicolo printed on it. Then she handed it to him.

Techno-babble, sandwiches, and juice boxes. This was Team Galactic. Any minute now he was going to wake up, it was all just too weird to be real. Cave ins. Secret doors. Turning 'dexes into lasers. It had to be some kind of dream. He didn't like this place, and he didn't like how two out of three Galactics had been looking at Claire. What was the blue-haired one's problem anyway? Why had she picked Claire out of special scrutiny?

Although he still felt kind of embarrassed about the whole name yelling thing Aulus moved over to stand beside the purple-eyed woman once more, spinning his staff over his hand a few times, and generally giving off the air of a suspicious bodyguard. Char remained a quiet presence just behind him, but Tortie loitered some distance away for a couple of moments giving Claire a look. Eventually, however, she seemed to reach a decision and giving a resigned huff she padded over to join her trainer, now choosing to ignore Claire rather than to glower at her.

Juice boxes. They had juice boxes. Seriously? Augh... Oh well, whatever.

It was taking a while to calm herself down, but Tethys focusing on other matters - like putting the straw into Deimos' juice box - made it a great deal easier. She wasn't even looking in Tortie's general direction, so her back received the look. She barely even noticed as the Absol sat down near her trainer, though Aulus' presence nearby was appreciated. She couldn't help but wish for Lucas' presence instead, but that would be horrible for several reasons, the most prominent of which had blue hair, creepy eyes, and a very icy manner.

If Aulus was looking for conversation, however, he wouldn't get one from Claire, as she leaned against the cave wall with what sounded like an irritated sigh, crossing her arms over her chest. Zeus flailed a moment before he lost his balance and fell off, but managed to somehow land on his feet. He snorted a bit but settled onto the ground instead.

All they could do was wait, it seemed. Wait for this mysterious laser - constructed from pokedexes of all things - to be complete, wait for the cavern to collapse, or wait for the area to fill up with carbon dioxide. Beautiful. Aila seated herself to a side, watching the various goings-on of the cave with only the mildest interest. She narrowed her eyes momentarily as Tethys stared at Claire. She had no intent to tolerate the harassment of her allies. Fortunately, it seemed TRP felt the same.

Revenant lingered near her human as the girl continued to watch the chamber's occupants. It really looked like the Galactic leader knew what he was doing, until he was handed a sandwich and a juice box. Aila found it difficult to believe that anyone within that organization respected him... Her attention shifted as Aulus moved, conspicuously taking a place at Claire's side. Mm, he really wasn't making any attempts at subtlety at all, was he? After his earlier reaction to Orion's tomfoolery, his concerned shout after the second cave-in, and now the protector-like posture he took by her side, even Aila, who generally had difficulty in reading people, could tell what he thought of her.

"If you're going to be so obvious, you might as well try being direct," she murmured to no one in particular, drawing up her knees and folding her arms around them with a sigh. Well, whatever. As long as their awkward courtship didn't interfere with Team Rocket and its missions, it wasn't any business of hers.

There certainly was protesting when Nyx was robbed of her sandwich bag--technically the Galactic's sandwich bag--She had been not only holding it, but intending to eat one of those sandwiches; Rock falls and cave-ins made a scientist hungry. So while Tethys was busy putting a straw in a juice box, Nyx was busy slowly sneaking over to steal back the bag. The little blue mew clung to the back of his master's head as she attempted this feat of daring, reaching out her hand slowly and grabbed onto the bag. She would have a sandwich, Galactic be damned.
