.:. NEWER MEMBER .:.
SoA Name: Hukonjoole'tari Owner's Name: Adona Benedicta Picture: http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z263/artistic_twink/Shadows of Africa/HukonjooleAdult.jpg Rank: Poupe Personality: Hukonjoole'tari is kind of an idiot, almost? For the majority of his life, he's been bossed around by either his sisters, or his mother. It's just the way he's lived. He was unfortunate to be born with a constant drumming inside his head. As he got older, Hukon managed to tune it out for the most part, but in times of stress, he can be found curled up with his paws over his head, trying to ride out another Drum Ordeal. Beyond that, he's a bit of a coward. He's genuinely afraid of girls, fearing what they might do to him for stepping out of line. The only girl who he isn't terrified of is his mother, Zitomoya. He's easily manipulated, dim, cowardly... There aren't many good traits to Hukonjoole'tari. He got the short end of the stick, poor guy. Name of Parents: Sellion x Zitomoya Why is this SoA joining the pride/how long have they been in the pride?: Hukonjoole'tari spent his life travelling with his mother's group, but along the way, he and Zito separated for a while. At first it was natural; he was curious and wanted to hide from his sisters, and Zito just...wanted to be left alone. On one of these trips, unfortunately, Hukon lost track of his mother. He's been on his own since, sleeping with one eye open just in case. He happened upon the pride merely by happenstance, and something about it called to him. So, with the Mama's permission, he joined. For the most part, he doesn't seem to really remember much of his Rogue Life. Probably because it was less of a 'life' and more aimless wandering...

A few questions have been buzzing around in my head for the past few days, so I'm going to man-up and ask:
1. Is it possible to change your rank in the pride after adulthood? Could, say, a lion start off as a Gatherer, develop an interest in Loa, and become a Houngan later in life?
2. What happens to cubs who reach juvenile stage and still haven't chosen a future rank? Are they given more time or is a rank forced upon them?
3. How are rogues accepted into the pride? Is there a protocol or is it more laid back? Are they wary of outsiders or open minded?

Hm. Do you mind if I ask a question? Front Page They create trinkets that are said to hold spirits--trapping the spirit from within so that the Bokor can summon it at will to do their bidding. Bokor and Caplata can both do this, right? What is there to stop them from creating a trinket that holds the spirit of their love, as with the Old Caplata and Takis? Or is this ability only possible with non-Ghede Loa?

WALL OF TEXT TIME, GUYS. <3
@Sarge, pfff, I love questions, so ask them any time. XD I just can't always answer them 100% positively since a lot of info in here needs bulking and outside opinions, so feel free to give feedback on answers. 'cause a lot of this info will just get moved to the front page for bulking, ololol. >8D
1) Yes, that is possible, since the pride would probably believe that the Loa have begun calling on that older individual for reasons that are their own, so the pride would understand that and accept it. BUT, of course the older lion would start of training the same way as the young lions do, so that individual wouldn't be able to be, say, the best Houngan in the pride do to their limited level of experience given that they are starting out later in life.
2) The offspring don't get a huge say in what they train in, actually. In vodun culture they are encouraged to go with their own calling. In this pride, the parents (with some feedback from other pride members or elders) would decide what rank is best for their offspring, and the youth would train in that rank. The older ones seem to have a knack for sort of seeing what the younger ones are "supposed" to train in at that time, like you'll see in the bio descriptions of some of the pride members that older members recognized that they had maybe a strong spiritual connection so they should be a Poupe, or maybe some were good at finding things from a young age so they should be a Pesepte, etc.
3) I'll write something more detailed about the initiation process and put that on the front page in a bit. -fails, clearly- XD But for the most part, the pride is wary of outsiders. The Guards would be the ones to meet with the outsider, and if the outsider expressed a wish to find out more, the Guards would firstly use their own judgment to decide whether the outsider was more or less okay to go in (they wouldn't let in an outright nutjob, for example), and then a group of Guards would escort the individual into the pride, where they would consult the Mama and the rest of the pride. I imagine it would be kind of like a town meeting or something--kind of like if you wanted to take up a residence in a private village, everyone would have to decide if you could stay or not. So that might be how it works in a brief nutshell.
So yeah, any opinions anyone else has on this info, feel free to speak up. Or if anyone needs more clarification. I think sometimes I write things, and my brain just assumes everyone is a mind-reader, so I'm sorry for all the lacking info. orz
@Larisha, okay, I researched some more on this subject because of your good question! SO, the soul-capturing talisman is a "perk" of being a Bokor or Caplata that is somewhat rare and taboo-ish, much like Zombis are. Only Ghede Loa souls may be captured. The talismans are called "ouangas". In every individual, supposedly there are, to put it shortly, two halves of a soul. One half is superior, the other is earthly and inferior. Your soul is called a baka. The "ka" is the inferior part. Supposedly when you die, the ba rises to be with the Loa, while the ka is left within the corpse, as it belongs to the earth and one's earthly form. This is something untouchable, and part of why Hounfor are sacred, which is why it is seen as a scary story or taboo that a Bokor and Caplata could go and draw one into their talisman, thus owning part of a deceased individual's soul to do their bidding. The "ka" within the talisman (and supposedly a Bokor or Caplata are capable of holding numerous "ka" within their talisman) can be sent out to possess others, strengthen one's spiritual connection, help in calling upon Loa--but all in all, once the "ka" is collected for dark purposes, it is dark, and not used for anything good. Houngan and Mambo can collect them for good in actual Vodun culture, but in this pride, it's strictly untouchable and taboo. So technically, yes, the Old Caplata could have a talisman that holds Takis's "ka". Or not. :3 For this pride, I'm putting the talisman thing under "taboo", and I'm not sure many Bokor or Caplata would utilize this ability or not. It would depend on the individual, and while some may experiment with it (as some have secretly with Zombi powder), it's taboo.
