There was a sound of hurried walking - not quite running - and a young woman with auburn hair opened the door. She raied an eyebrow, looking down at Joop.
".... Are you all right?" she asked, coming out of the house a few steps. "I have a first aid kit, if you're bleeding."

space "Oh, um ...No, Ma'am. I mean, yes I am. I mean." Joop wasn't usually prone to anxiety, so that could not have been his reaction. He inhaled deep, to relax himself, while he stood. Grabbing his wrist, he turned his left hand to see how bad the scratch was ...of course, being late, he couldn't see very well anyhow, and just assumed the best.
space "Actually," he went on to say, "I think it's fine. I mean ...It's just a little scrape is all; it doesn't even hurt." In his mind he was screaming "AGONIZING TORTURE IS PULSATING FROM GASHED HAND! IS IT INFECTED!? I THINK IT IS! OH GAAWWWWD I'M GONNA NEED A SHOT!" but wouldn't dare show it. He held his wrist tightly, then walked closer to Aubrianna, just to use her light as a way to get a better look.
space "On second thought," he recanted, "Maybe I should put something on this. Alcohol?" His question was just that! He wasn't sure if he should just wash it with soap and water, or if something like road rash should get a more serious antibacterial cleaner that's sure to burn. It was more of an approval thing for him, really. "I'm sorry to have disturbed you. I didn't mean ...I was going to come back tomorrow." He paused for a bit, then introduced himself properly: "I'm Joop ..."
space The boy's eyes looked over Aubri, expecting her to grow angry, and he waited there for her reaction. If nothing would be done or said in a few minutes, he'd just walk off, still forgetting to tie his schoe.

"Oh. Yeah, you're hear about the Dumyrciedel? Get in, I'll get some stuff for your wrist." Aubri stepped back into her house, motioning to the couch. "Take a seat."
She hurried off, turning down a hallway and disappearing.
There was a set of necklaces sitting on the table, along with journals and pieces of paper with some sort of bizarre language on it, and a pen or two.

space While he waited, Joop couldn't help but to notice the notebooks. It was moreso the language he was interested in, but he only just glanced. His gaze grew heavier as he tried depicting its origins, but it seemed to be too new ...or too old for him to recognize.
space He took a seat on the couch as directed, and took a closer look at the notebooks. Curious of their readings, he flipped open one of the spines, just to see how much of this writing there may have been. A pencil slid off the notebook, and rolled onto the table before finding its way clinking against the floor. It was obvious Joop was snooping, but he didn't want to make it even more apparent. He closed the notebook promptly, repositioned the pencil in practically the exact way it was before he opened the bound tome, and sat back against the cushions of Aubri's sofa.
space "She'll explain it; of course she will. If I ask, I'm sure she'll explain it." He took a final glance around the room from where he was sitting before hearing footsteps approach.

Aubri came back into the room, somehow managing to balance a bowl of water (with some disinfectant mixed in, but that was a secret), a washcloth, and some bandages. She deposited all of these on the table before Joop.
"There you go. While you're getting yourself patched up, I'll get to explaining all of this. You're very late, you know." Aubri stood with her hands on her hips.
"The Dumyrciedel are a race of cat-ish things with wings and scales. They're as intelligent as we are, possibly more, and possess the ability to speak. They've been sealed away from the outside world for quite some time, and now that the barrier's gone, the leaders of the city are interested in slowly moving out into the modern world. The easiest way to do this, in their eyes, is through the Forgotten Children - orphans or abandoned children who would usually be taken in as apprentices or left on the streets.
"If you choose to say yes to caring for one, you can take one of these statues." She pointed to the necklaces. "The expression of the statue - this one's happy, for instance - will translate to the basic personality of your Dumyr. The colors of the beads match up with its fur color.
"You'll get one of these journals to record his or her growth in, if you like. It also has a list of phone numbers and addresses of the other foster parents, in case you need anything or want to get your Dumyr some interaction other than weekly language lessons.
"Also, these papers - " she pointed to the ones in the weird language - "are for if you decide that you'd like your Dumyr to be considered for an apprenticeship. If he's chosen, he'll stay in his city. You won't see him unless you visit, he visits, or he finishes his apprenticeship and decides to come out into our world all the same."
She took a deep breath.
"There. I think that's all. Any questions?"

space "Um ..." Joop was cautious in being too hasty with his reply. He did, afterall want the opportunity to help Aubri, but he also didn't want to take away from the creature's potential in his or her own environment.
space "What sort of apprenticeship would he or she being doing? I mean, it isn't something like ..." he hesitated, "dealing the final blow to a prisoner or anything like that is it?" He paused, glancing over the paperwork that he absolutely could not understand. "And ...What language is this?" His mouth curled to a smile as he chuckled a bit in his lack of knowledge. "I speak a few, and this one I just have no clue how to place."
space "Sorry, I'm getting off topic. Yes, I think I will absolutely love to take care of one of your cat-ish things. But I don't want to do the apprenticeship. I think that if I'm taking care of him or her, I should be the one to do it." He was direct, no doubt, and got to the point quickly just before beginning to dress his wounds.

"Apprenticeships aren't usually for a particular occupation in this case. From what was explained to me, it's more a mentorship in culture, magic, and whatever else the Dumyr wants to learn.
"The language is the Dumyr's. It's been sealed away for as long as they have been, so that'd explain why you can't place it."
She shrugged. "Well, if you don't want him to be elligible, just don't sign the paper. Fine by me. Only a few are accepted anyway. Now - pick a necklace and a notebook, and if you don't have any more questions.... I just need your phone number so I can call you when your Dumyr gets here." She grabbed a pen, preparing to write on the back of her hand.

space Somewhat uncertain if her statement was a conflict, Joop ignored it, matter'f-factly. He picked up the same notebook he opened, grabbing the orange and blue necklace that lay with it. He mentioned not having a telephone, and hoped it would be okay.

space "Oh, yeah ...Well, yeah. Of course. I have an address." His nervousness was apparent, though he had no reason. He'd come and asked about the language, and even chose a dumyr to one day take home for his very own. It's not like Joop really knew Aubri in the first place. He had no reason to be acting so irresponsibly ignorant.
space He told her address, somewhat upset, and growing more weary with each passing second. "So I guess that's it then," he sighed. "I'll see myself out." He'd ruined his chance to say or ask or do whatever it was he inteded. Instead of letting the tension fester, the young man turned with his notebook and necklace, and started walking out the door. It wasn't difficult to sense he had annoyed his host who was most gracious for providing him with the sinister water that she did.
space "Thanks for the aide. I'm sure my hand'll get much better, now." He closed the door behind him slowly, not wanting to slam it. He saw how quiet her home was, and didn't want to disturb its balance. The peacefulness of it all made him realize how much of an idiot he seemed: from causing such a ruccus and comotion outside, all the way to overstaying his welcome with useless points that got their conversation going nowhere. Careless. He spent too much time with his nose burried to learn anything about interacting with other people.

((*attempts to get somethin started here for the boys* Just have to poke Em to post tomorrow ...))
As Farlest all but dragged Nash toward the house, he hung back just a bit, trying to get a look at the place. He'd had a bad feeling about this since the elf snatched that flyer out of the air. He really didn't know if he wanted to be responsible for another creature ... even if it was just some kind of special pet.
Or something. He hadn't really gotten that good a look at the flyer before Far was bouncing and making puppy eyes at him about going to check this out. He sighed slightly, pulled along again. They didn't even have a place to stay yet ... and who knew how long they'd be ABLE to stay here.
((Edit: For reference XD They both look human, at the moment ^^))

Farlest had had something akin to a surge of adrenaline, prancing along despite his still-healing leg injury from the day before. His dark hair brushed his face in stark contrast to the pale skin...his eyes were sparkling however, in some ways very much a child wanting to get a new pet, or perhaps something more than that.
He realized that the cat-like creatures were more in the way of children than animals...and despite the trepidation that Nash had shown he was sure the other would enjoy this experience despite himself. He finally stopped abruptly, having been caught up in his own mental traverses and had been counting house numbers almost without thought.
"Oh...wow...I think this is it...."
The elf stepped onto the porch and, without further ado, rapped his knuckles on the door, just trusting that Nash would catch up.

Aubri grumbled, hanging up the phone inside. Canceled appointments were one of the most annoying things in the world. Two of the people who had called in interest and seemed like very capable people had just called to decline the offer. Other things had come up unexpectedly, you see.
Great. Just. Great. She had two Dumyr coming without homes, then, and-
Knock.
... Maybe she didn't.
Aubri hurried to the door, looking all together rather nice this time. Lecture in a few hours. She was dressed in a nice, simple white button-up blouse and a black A-line skirt. She'd forgone the stockings and shoes for the moment. She hated the formal dress required on these rare occasions where she was sent to private colleges to talk...
Anyway. Door. She opened it, smiling a little. That smile twitched (she was still angry about the whole "change of plans" thing, no matter how much she tried to hide it), but at least it looked... kind of pleasant.
"Well, hello. Here about the Dumyr?"

After a moment or two, he -did- catch up, just in time for that door to open. He blinked slightly, catching the woman's somewhat harried air. But he also noticed her trying to hide it and so didn't say anything.
Since he was still at the bottom of the steps, he just came up beside Farlest, intending to let him do most of the talking. But he did have one thing to say. "Mm ... he is," he replied, making a motion toward the elf. If Far wanted to get a pet ... or whatever ... that was fine. He didn't really want any part of this.
((Meaning you two get to push him XDDD *pets Nashie*))

"... Well, that's not very useful," she commented dryly, stepping back and motioning them inside. "Because I have two without foster parents. 'Unforseen circumstances,' my a**." That last bit was muttered.
"Anyway. Can I get you anything to drink?"
