Wandering through the streets of the city, Karasi was reminded of just how awkward wings could be when not in use. She had to watch herself carefully, to make sure she did not bump someons or something with them. Despite her precautions, she still found herself appolagizing far too often. With a sigh, Karasi tried to draw them closer to her body. Maybe she should have flown, the gods knew it would probably have gotten her less attention. Most of her kind lived in the mountains or praries, where they could manuver without bothering others. Here, she was they only one of her race, and it was always evident.

Passing through the main market place, Karasi was painfully aware of the looks that her wings drew form passerby. She was not use to this, in her home village, they were used to her and others like herself. Here, it was becoming more and more apparent that she was aforigner to them, despite being from the same country. Pausing at a fruit stand, she ignored the curious glance of the keeper to her wings. After purchasing a small assortment of fruit, Karasi turned away, not seeing the man that stood behind her until she felt, and heard, the small thud of her wings hitting anothers back. With a little gasp, she turned around carefully, making sure she did not hit anyone else.

"I am very sorry sir," she said quickly, giving a slight bow, a blush of embaresment raising in her cheeks.

He looked at the girl with the wings. "Don't worry, I know wings can be a bit cumbersome. But if you wrap them around your body like a piece of cloth, then it shouldn't be so bad." He said to her, bending down to pick up some of the things that were dropped. It then clicked that he said some things that he shouldn't have.

Karasi was a little surprised at this, the others she had bumped into had been less understanding, to say the least. "Ah, Thank you, But I'm afraid Icannot do so, the joint's of my wings are not made for such. At least, as far as I know I cannot..." The young Elvian trailed off as what the man sid clicked. "Pardon my asking, but, how do you know so much?" She asked politly. He did not have wings, not that she could see. But then, how would he know what it was like to have them? Curiosity was written plainly on her face, though she tryed to mask it politly.

"It is along story, one that I don't really like telling." He said as his back started to itch a bit. "Let's just say I was friends with a lot of people who had wings." He concluded. He looked around at the people staring at them. "Do you want to go somewhere else? I have a camp just outside the city." He said to her.

Karasi nodded in understanding. "Thank you for the offer, but no," she declined his offer as politly as she could. "I am headng towards the palace. However, you are welcome to join me if you wish." She was intrigued by this man. He had not struck her as the type to live in the city in the first place, that he had a camp outside of the city, instead of renting a room, perked her curiosity even more. Karasi waited quietly for his response, hoping that he would take her offer, as she wanted to know more about this man that befriended winged folk such as herself.

He thought about it. "Sure, but I like to know the names of my companions." He said to her. "I go by the name of Khnui nowadays." He told her, since it was true. For he had many names, some he decided to go by. Others were given to him. He quickly thought if he should go get at least his dirk first. No, there should be no need for it. He thought to himself. He adjusted his shirt while he waited for a response.

"Karasi," the girl replyed simply. "It is nice to meet you Khnui. There are few people I meet that do not think it odd that I have wings, at least in this city." Turning slowly, Karasi made sure that she did not hit anyone this time. Reaching into her bag, the girl produced two apples, offering one to her new found companion. She had been raised to always be polite, when she was around others at least. Karasi was breifly reminded of last night, when she had watched from the rooftop of an old house. Some would call that spying, she called it curiosity, and so did the elders of her village. Despite their efforts, they had never been able to break her of it.

"No thank you." He said, raising his hand upin decline. "I just purchased some foods, so I don't need or want anymore." He moved through the crowd as if he was wading through water, even when he was looking at her. He didn't smile his amusement at her difficulties, but he didn't have much right to do so in the first place. Since he has had years of practice.

Moonsong nodded and placed the extra apple back in her bag. Keeping her wings close to her body, the eighteen year old Elvian fell in place with Khnui. "What brings you to the city, if you don't mind my asking. Forgive me if I am out of palce, but you do not seem the sort that enjoys living in such a place, no matter how grand it may be to the eye." For it was true, the city was a grand one, but like herself, Khuni did not look as though he belonged amoung the tall buildings and large crowds.

"Doing oddjobs here and there." He looked at her. "And you're right, I prefer the wide open spaces. The sound of water cascading upon the shore used to lull me to sleep when I was young." He said, looking forward. "And, may I ask, are you doing here?" He asked in return. He didn't know why he was so open to this girl. Maybe her wings brought back memories of the good ol' days, when he didn't work so much or so hard.

Karasi smiled to herself as she thought back to her mountain home. "I am here for training. When I was young..." Karasi trailed off slightly, not wanting to go back to those painfilled memories of when her parents died. "Something happend that made me want to join the war. I was too younge at the time, of course. The elders of my village obliged my requests however, and taught me how to harness my wind magic, to the best of their abilities. And the warriors taught me how to fight with sword and dagger. It was a small village though, and the elders, though they know much, could not teach me all I needed to know for combat. Nor could the warriors, for they fought only when they had to, using the barest of skills. When I was old enough, they sent me here, to learn from those in the castle." Karasi's eyes had the far off look of one remembering happier times, as indeed she was. Lfying amoung the clouds with her parents, before... Karasi snapped herself back to the present before she followed that line of thought.

He nodded his head. "I know what hat was like. I wanted to join the great war, but the elders thought that I was too inexperience to join the bloody battlefields. But we actually had competent warriors and trainers then." He said to her. "But that was a long time ago though, not many remember those days. If any but me still do." He crossed his arms, also remembering those long forgotten days.

Karasi nodded, wondering how old this man must be if he talked thus. She did not ask however, for she was not one to ask such things. One question, she did ask. "If you could not then, why do you not join now?" This may have appered rude to some, but she really did wish to know. For in the young Elvians experiance, one did not simply give up on something for no reason. Karasi waited for a response, ever mindfull that he may not wish to answer such a question.

"Because the great war is ended, and has been for many years. After the elders thought that I was ready after my training, I was sent to the battlefront for one of our allies. And they were correct when they said that I wasn't ready when I first asked. All the bloodshed, I still have nightmares about it." He said. "I watched while my friends and collegues got hacked to pieces, not being able to help them." His voice started to get a haunted sound to it. "But that is all in the past now." He said cheerfully.
