**Theodore**Tel** "Yes they do," Tel agreed as he accepted the book. He took this as an invitation and sat down at the table now. Aya's insistence that old books should be loved too reminded him of himself back when he was younger. Every time he got the chance to select a new stuffed animal for himself he always did his best to find the one plushie that might have what could be considered a defect. Maybe the eyes or the ears weren't quiet evenly placed or whatever. Tel "rescued" these toys from a life of being unloved whenever he could. He almost said as much to Aya, but instead opened the book to the title page.
The tiny blond knew the other was analyzing him, and was curious to know what his first impression was. Aya's friendly demeanor made the scrutiny merely curious as opposed to hostile. Tel knew that he usually gave off a fairly reserved air, but his awkward opening from a moment ago had probably led the other to some conclusions. His eyes took in the title, "Ivanhoe, a classic! I believe I read this several years ago, I forget whether for school or pleasure. Maybe it was both. I think I enjoyed it. Can't quite remember really." The book was returned to Aya. "So, what is your position in the household, what do you do here?"

**Theodore**Tel** Tel blew lightly on the steaming cup of tea. A few sips later he was wishing for some sugar or a little honey, but it wasn't bad. He listened attentively as Aya went on about the various ways people do or do not enjoy reading these days. Tel had never really thought about it himself. It was interesting however. In general the little male greatly appreciated other people's passions, regardless what they concerned, simply because he did not have one. It was something that had been bothering him for some time now. In school the teachers would espouse the merits of having that one thing that just really did it for you. "Go out and find your passion!" they would demand of the students. Tel had yet to find his. Sure, there were plenty of things he found to be interesting, but even without ever having experienced passion, he knew that he was missing something. Or at least, that's how everyone else seemed to feel about it. Because he felt he was lacking in this, Tel enjoyed others' passions very much, the same way he always happy when someone achieved something they wanted. Even if their achievement didn't affect him at all, it always warmed him to see any little bit of happiness in the world. Perhaps it was a little bit pitiful, this vicarious living, but Tel hadn't written himself off yet; there was a chance that what ever it was that would inspire him was still out there, waiting to be discovered. Plus, he was reassured that he did have things he enjoyed and gave him pleasure even if he was missing out on this intensity that passion seemed to bring.
Tel winced slightly at poor Aya's cough and pained look. Surprisingly it was followed by an easy laugh at Tel's lack of knowledge concerning all things Asian really. Somehow the laugh was not mean or judgmental, which of course was greatly appreciated by this "ignorant" youth. That was some talent with the voice, to be able to convey subtle meaning with a laugh. Besides having been hired by the madame, Tel took this as a sign that Aya was indeed a very talented reader. He wondered if the blond Asian read in a mellow tone that allowed the listener to fall into the rhythm of the words and apply their own dramatic inferences, as his father had done, or if Aya read dramatically, using different voices for each character and really ramping up the energy, as his mother had read.
Tel nodded at the other's explanation of -san. Being English he definitely appreciated Aya's sense of manners and politeness. The young man across from him had been very welcoming thus far; Tel wished he was in the practice of expressing his pleasure at the company. He was rather afraid that if he tried to twist his face into the appropriate expression the result would be some sort of grotesque gargoyle countenance. Better to stick with words. Aya was rising and mentioning food. Yes! "I'm not sure where any cough syrup is for you, but the kitchen might have honey. That really helps a sore throat," Tel suggested while mentally adding, It'll help my tea too! "Actually, I'm starving," he admitted, "And would be most grateful if I could tag along with you to the kitchen and beg a meal off the chefs." The little blond reached out to gather up the tea things so they could get a re-fill from the kitchen.

Walking down the hall with a bit of a spring in his step, Kane swayed his hips from side to side every few steps, humming a song that had been stuck in his head all morning. It happened often, especially when he was practicing his dances, and sometimes he would be singing the same song for an entire week, since he liked to focus on one thing until he properly finished it. Thinking that maybe he would get a bite to eat since it was morning, Kane started moving through the mansion to where he knew the dining room would be. The day he'd arrived, Kane had been given a map and a brief tour, and with his experience of being on the street and on the road so much, he learned the entire place inside and out in only a few days, knowing that getting lost in such a large and important building could spell trouble.
As he passed the Madam's office, he saw a boy knocking on the door and asking to see her. Knowing that there was a meeting going on at that time, Kane walked over and took him by the wrist. "Hey kid, don't you know the Madam's busy?" Of course, the only reason Kane knew was because he liked to keep track of when clients came and went, having not picked up on of his own yet. "She isn't even in there right now, so there's no point in knocking. By the way, who are you? I don't remember anyone mentioning a worker like you." Kane had already made it a point to learn the names and appearances of the other workers, just in case he ever bumped into them. After all, being a good coworker usually won some points with the boss.
Realizing that perhaps this kid had been picked up even more recently than himself, Kane asked, "Are you new here too? 'Cause I just arrived a few days ago. You know, you gotta be smarter than that if you want to survive," he advised, wondering where this guy came from. Having lived by himself for a while, Kane knew how to stay safe and to keep his affairs in order, and it annoyed him when he came across someone who didn't have similar skills. After all, how did they expect to get along in this world if they couldn't even take care of themselves?
Looking over the boy's attire, Kane sighed, annoyed. The boy was also wearing Chinese clothes, although they were distinctly different from his own. That morning Kane had chosen an emerald green cheongsam with long bell-flared sleeves that covered all but the perfect nails on his finger tips. The black accents had matched perfectly with his favourite pair of black high-heeled sandals, and he'd gone through the trouble of putting his hair up into an ox horn style. All of this in order to impress the new client, if he was even lucky enough to meet the man in person. Kane wasn't sure how things worked, but he wanted to know he looked good if anyone came looking for him.
"So what's your gimmick?" he asked, trying to get a handle on what kind of a person this boy was, whether he was competition or in a completely different catagory. Although Kane awlways wanted to be the cutest, the most talented, and the most loved, he well understood how important tastes were in choosing a partner, so if the others could do something that he just couldn't possibly do and won because of it, then he wasn't really angry about it. However, if there was another dancer or a contortionist in the mansion, it would probably mean war. After all, there were only so many men in the world who could afford Madam Usagi's prices; Kane wanted a client of his own more than anything.

~ 理 Aya ~
A smile graced Tetsuya's features again. "Green tea." he spoke, carefully pouring the hot tea into another cup for Tel's consumption. "Healthy and warm... certainly good for a wake up." After making sure the cup was topped off nicely, Aya's thoughts scrambled as he listened to Tel speak. It wasn't that the young man was hard to follow, far from it, it was simply that he had never really met someone from England. Someone from the very place that many of his favorite works of literature... had come from.
The half-Japanese man laughed softly, "You may think it no small thing, but it is. Do not get me wrong, Tel-san, for suggesting bedtime story reading is hardly viewed as an important thing these days... to those children, it is a wonderful time. I sometimes put my talent to use at a local hospital, and read to the kids there. I am simply aware that in the realm of adults, few would really enjoy listening to a story read out loud to them." Tetsuya shrugged. "Then again, audio books have become quite popular... but I believe those have more to do with one's ability to do other things while listening to them, then they would be able to do while actually reading the book. Plus there is that entire abridged affair that I hardly wish to go into simple because it is akin to hacking off an arm or a leg of an artist's sculpture, save the sculpture is a written work of art instead." he smiled again, a slight blush coming into his fair features. In truth, Tetsuya realized that Tel probably was hardly keen on learning his views of books and technology... and that notion was a bit embarrassing. He had almost gone off on a tangent, after all.
Quickly however, Tetsuya had to turn his head to the side and raise his napkin to his mouth, coughing. He winced, that mere act having hurt his throat more than he had wanted. "Seems like," the young man spoke, "I may need to find a bit of cough syrup." Once again however, that smile was back on his face and Tel had his attention. The smile soon turned into another laugh, obviously amused by the other man's lack of knowledge considering Aya's own language. "-san," Tetsuya explained. "Is a name suffix. Used for respect. Literally translated as 'miss' or 'misses' or, in your case, 'mister'." blond hair fell over his shoulder as he shook his head. "Of course it is also reserved for not knowing a person very well, and simply wishing to be polite. Since I have only just met you... I used '-san' and, since in this manor no one has a last or first name, I have simply tacked it onto 'Tel'."
Aya sincerely hoped that his smile and warm manner, was putting Tel ar ease. Carefully he stood, picking up his plate. "I, for one, seem to still be a bit hungry. Probably due to missing dinner and breakfast. Are you hungry? I'm sure the kitchen staff would be happy to make you lunch, Tel-san. You need only to ask."
