I read that Ryugi, but I also understood that Deva's tend to follow really closely what their deity of chose believes in. Hence the Raven Queen followers wouldn't be going out of their way to stop death where they saw it.

How can both good and evil drow be the stereotype?

No one ever said that evil drow were a stereotype. Evil drow is the standard, good drow players is the stereotype.

No, by being standard they are the stereotype. As the number of NPCs will always overwhelm the PCs.

I... think you have the terms Standard and Stereotype confused.

Stereotype would be like all nerds are hopeless social outcasts with no chance of getting laid, which (while sometimes holding a candle of truth) is not always the case. I know plenty of nerds that do just fine in relationships.

Not all Drow are evil, but Drizzt Do'Urden has made it so that when a Drow is played almost everyone immediately thinks of a Chaotic Good Drow shunning his creator and supposed violent mentality and wielding two scimitar. That is NOT what a Drow is, but Player Character Drow are stereotyped as that, especially good ones.

A Standard Drow is a conniving, violent, backstabbing villain, but they're hardly played that way. Few Player Characters play them like that because they all want to share in the glory that is the Drizzt archetype.

I suppose you could argue that there is an "Evil Drow" stereotype, but then again there is a stereotype for EVERYTHING. When I think of someone playing a Good Aligned Drow, I immediately think of Drizzt and his copycats; not "Hey, a Good Drow, that's unusual."

[EDIT] That's not to say that you CAN'T play a good drow and not be a Drizzt ripoff, but that stereotype plagues the good drow.

*shrug* Well, I'm not here to argue. All I'm saying is that there is a very famous Good Drow who's popularity ruined Good Drow for players everywhere. Again, not saying you can't PLAY a Good Drow and not be a Drizzt ripoff (esp. if you don't know who he is) but I'm something of a skeptic in the area. Kinda like how Twilight's popularity ruined vampires for a lot of people.

If you wanna play a Drow, I believe the Monster Manual has the stats for a Player Character version in the back.
