After many long moments of simply glowering, C’ren finally smiled a little, allowing a small show of satisfaction at seeing Kallista Impress. Ceylith had been very insistent about that one, saying she had some real potential. Apparently the Green was right.

Sensing C’ren’s amusement, Ceylith immediately assumed someone had gotten themselves mauled. Mine! It’s not nice to laugh at their misfortune! I keep telling you that… the dragon sighed mentally, her disappointment only creeping up as more as her rider’s amusement became more evident to her mind. C’reeeen…

One of ours just Impressed, Ceylith. Kallista has Impressed a gorgeous little Green girl. Of course, she’s nowhere near as pretty as you.

Ceylith let out a happy bugle at the news, the draconic equivalent of a squeal of delight. Oh, I knew she would! I knew she would! That’s what I said, didn’t I? I told you so, C’ren. When you get out here, I must show you my I Told You So Dance. I’ve been practicing all morning, you know.

Both Ferris and Annelie found themselves creeping through the crowed to gain a closer place to where the Queen egg was starting to crack. They had their serious doubts, and both hung about the Queen fringes in case, perhaps, one of the few remaining eggs on the sands was somehow... theirs.

Anne wasn't sure if any were hers. In fact, she rather doubted it; she was a servant, a worker in kitchens, not a rider. A servant couldn't be a rider.

Ferris.. well... Ferris didn't know what she was, but that never had mattered to her. She adored the creatures, but had she adored them enough? For years she's stood, but had yet to Impress... had she tried her hardest to be right for a dragon? Or had she slacked off too much this time?

Only a few left now, Dusen noticed, his eyes flickering briefly to the cracking queen egg, but then back to remaining few. It wasn't like he wasn't impressed with it, but she wasn't half as interesting to him as the remaining eggs were. After all, his dragon could be inside one of the remaining shells.

Would he impress, or would he have to take a chance trying again?

Ah, well. They did say petting an egg didn't mean it was yours. The blue that popped out was simply stunning, though, and Hesendek was happy for the boy he found. The hatchling seemed as happy as could be, and quite playful too! The candidate turned his attention back to the eggs, how quickly they hatched! Twenty eggs, and how many were there left? Four? Five? Well, he obviously wouldn't Impress the Queen, so one less chance for him.

The next dragon that tumbled out was a little green, a very proud little green. She never looked at the boys, charging into the girls and knocking Hers over! Hesendek winced and hoped the girl was alright. The dragons were still little, relatively speaking, but that looked like it hurt. Maybe it wasn't so bad, having Mo stand before him.

- - -

F'sey wasn't thrilled with the social situation, but he wanted to watch Handra's standing, even if he hadn't told the boy. He wouldn't forgive himself if he missed his Impression. He had to wait a while, more then half the eggs had already hatched, but it was worth it. Handra Impressed, first stand and all! The greenrider even found himself wolf-whistling for the candidate, make that bluerider and bounced a little where he stood.

Elsewhere, Ialluth rumbled. It was good for the grumpy man to have a friend.

Lynna was one of hte girls who was bumrushed by the green, and only just managed to keep her footing. By the time she recovered, she saw there were only two eggs left. The girls were already moving to the queen egg, and Lynna felt herself grab at Kella's hand and followed, her heart pounding painfully in her ears - This was her last chance to impress. Really, shouldn't she impress here - to prove herself like her parents had failed to?

All of a sudden, the African Wild Dog egg burst open, revealing a rather orange looking dragon. He was clearly bronze, but there was a distinctly orange cast to his hide.

He took no time to make his decision, rushing over to Hesendek.

I am yours. I am the best dragon in the clutch! I am Bondyeth. You are my rider now. You should be proud.

HIs words spoken, the orange-tinted dragon lay down at the feet of his newly made rider, looking rather proud of himself.

Suddenly, the little crane egg that had first attracted Kallista broke free in a motion worthy of being recorded by the Harpers. The egg itself had first caught the runner's attention but many others had crowded around it so she had hung back. In one last move, the egg cracked and the most beautiful green that Kallista had ever seen came onto the scene.

There was no other way to describe it.

The green dragonet demanded everyone's attention as she raced through the group of girls. The golden egg temporarily forgotten, Kallista watched in amusement as the green pushed aside those unworthy of her attentions. All of a sudden, Kallista was getting hit...hard. Landing on the sands with a grunt, she looked up to see the vivid red swirl of dragon eyes staring her down.

Kallista, you are mine. Your Astarteth is far more beautiful than any Queen could be!

Kallista blinked once. Twice. And then realized that the green towering over her was speaking directly to her. HER! She has IMPRESSED! Throwing her arms around the green's slinky neck, tears were pouring down her cheeks! "No dragon could be better than you Astarteth! You are simply beautiful!"

Letting go of the dragon and gathering herself together, Kallista looked around and waved to her family. They were there to see her meet her match in life. Nothing, no one could ever be in her heart like little Astarteth.

Mine. I am hungry now. The little one keeled.

"Of course, sweetness. Let's go get you fed." And with that, the runner from Sandy Bends, gathered up her dragon and headed towards the caverns to begin her new life as a rider.

It all came down to this. It was almost over. Kella watched (slightly jealous, though she'd never admit it) as a positively gorgeous green went to a runnergirl. Kallista? Maybe that was her name. with a shrug, Kella didn't bother herself with trying to figure out if she were right. That didn't matter right now- the remaining eggs did. She felt Lynna's hand slip into hers, and Kella gave it a reassuring squeeze, her little fingers probably warm and clammy with a mix of excitement and nervousness. She kept pace with Lynna, moving closer to the only egg left that held a possibility for her.

Her eyes were drawn to the queen egg, watching as it slooowly, agonizingly so, broke apart. Then two different eggs stole away her attention. Kella watched a green and a blue break shell and quickly impress. With a glance back to the queen egg, Kella realized it was her only hope, and she forced herself to stand a little straighter. The young girl was positive that a bronze was held within the shell of the african wild dog egg, and she couldn't ride a bronze.

So, she held on to hope that the little gold might find her suitable. even though the gold hadn't completely broken her shell yet, Kella readied her mind. She summoned up reasons why she would make a great rider; her strength of mind, her persistence with matters she cared about, and her dedication and loyalty to the Weyr. She bundled them up with warmth and love, and pushed the thoughts strongly on their way towards the queen egg. Would they impress the little queen? Kella wanted to make some sort of impression, she wanted to stand out and be noticed! Just because she was small and young didn't mean she should be overlooked.

As she watched and waited patiently, the african wild dog egg split and spilled out a bronze. "He looks.. funny," Kella remarked to Lynna, pointing to the orange-tinted bronze. She grinned impishly. He'd certainly be an easy dragon to pick out in a crowd!

Mathyn knew he had not impressed, a lump rose in his throat, but he held his head high and smiled at those that had impressed. There was one egg left, the queen and he was not not female. He stood proud though knowing he had many years left to stand, and knowing even if he did not impress he still had gotten away from the Healercraft, and all of that learning!

He could not bare to turn around and take a look at his brother sitting proudly with his little blue fire lizard, or his mother and father who would be just as proud of him. Mathyn pulled his hand through his hair and breathed deeply, he had many more clutches, but it still felt hard not impressing the first try. The wonderful atmosphere of people finding their life mates should have lifted his spirits, but his competitive nature would not allow him to be over joyed.

In one flash of orangy-bronze skin, one sibling sank in defeat and the other raised onto her toes in excitement. For Gar, the hatching was done. He was done. It was so sudden, he almost couldn't believe it. What would he do now? Return to the stars and the night, and the loneliness, he assumed. He'd stay to see the gold, but it was clear his attention had faltered and failed. What was the point watching now? Sure, Faranie might impress that gold...but he realized in his secret heart, he did not want her too. And that was possibly the worst of it, wishing that she too would suffer the agony of being left standing time after time after time. "I"m terrible..." He admitted to no one in particular and fixed his glassy eyes on the one remaining egg. Alas...

All of Faranie's world was wrapped into that one moment. All that remained now was the gold. The entire place had their eyes fixed on it. Who could blame them? A queen dragon. A golden dragon. The creme de la creme. "Come on then...out with you!" She hissed under her breath.

Quinnel came back to reality when the Flamingo egg hatched, revealing a brightly colored green Dragonet. It was a pretty Hatchling and Quinnel was glad to see that it Impressed, not gone Between. Looking around, she realized that she had zoned out - again - and had missed many Impressions. Hearing the whispers and reactions, she surmised that some of the Hatchlings had rather unique personalities. She would have to make a point of meeting some of these Hatchlings and their new Riders.

The remaining eggs dwindled rapidly and soon the Queen egg began to crack. A vague sense of disappointment welled within her. It was a gut feeling, but she believed it: she wouldn’t Impress during this Hatching either. Still, it didn’t mean she couldn’t feel some excitement about the Queen’s immanent hatching and Impression. Quinnel began to jiggle slightly, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she wait to see the young gold emerge.

Kiera moved closer to where girls gathered, staying apart from them slight, tugging at the ends of her short hair, her heart hammering at what she was about to witness. A queen! A queen! Her mind cried at her, ecstatic. She wasn't going to give up hope. Just seeing the hatch of the beauty within would hold her over for decades, a tale in her mind worth telling.

A trademark smile spread on Kiera's lips. There was no need for sadness. Why was everyone so disappointed? They shouldn't be. Should they? this was a memory worth happiness. "Come on, little one. Welcome the sunshine. Come see us." She whispered softly, her voice bated in suspense and excitement.

A bronze! And it came right over to him. Right over to him.

I am Yours. I am the best dragon in the clutch! I am Bondyeth. You are my rider now. You should be proud.

And the little bronze settled down proudly at his feet.

Hesendek blinked. Or make that, H'dek. "A-ah," he said shakily. "I'd reckon you are th' best dragon in the entire clutch." The candidate, neigh, dragonrider sunk to his knees and wrapped his arms around the bronze, completely forgetting about the Queen that was about to hatch. His dragon had found him. His! There was nothing else in the world right now.

Just H'dek and Bondyeth.

There was uneasiness in his mind, and the pride he felt through whole his life has been slowly turning ino despair. He was here, waiting for his dragon - but apparently, he could wait as much as he wanted. Because nothing would happen.
No dragon came to call him his.

The blonde boy clenched his fists angrily, but this was the only thing in his whole body that signaled just how unhappy and torn he was. His face was absolutely neutral.
Now only the Queen is left. And he was no fool to expect a Queen to bond with a man. As soon as the bonding is done, he'll congratulate the girl who'd won her favor. And then get the hell out of here.

Do wishes really come true? Can someone's life go from near the bottom to the top of the world in just a minute? This was going to be answered very, very shortly. In fact...

The Queen rolled out of her egg in a way that was less than graceful, trying to blink away goo from her eyes. It was so hard to see. She stepped forward on wobbly legs, getting increasingly confident, until suddenly, she stopped short. There was a piece of egg shell still wrapped around her back leg, making it impossible for her to walk any more than a few paces. The little gold was clearly getting restless, stirring and snapping at the egg, and then whining pitifully.

Mineeeee she called out. She looked directly at Raena, but turned her head away quickly. That wasn't hers!

Annellliiieee. I am Yansanth. Help me out of here, please? Yansanth looked up at her mother and tried to hide, clearly intimidated by the bigger, older Queen.
