Seth shrugged, "Okay dad!" She turned and hurried back toward the front door which was still open slightly. She collected her cloak, boots, and goggles, resting the goggles atop her head and draping herself in the cloak, leaving the hood down. After stepping outside, Seth turned and shut the door behind her and locked it before lacing up her boots and following Maryl into the grass. "Okay, we're good to go."

"Great, so what was your dad doing?" Maryl held her wand aloft causing the crystal on top to shine in the evening sun. A magic circle appeared below her, stretching out to surround the two of them. A gentle wind picked up some of the stray dirt, tracing it around the circle like a weak dust devil.

Seth looked down and scratched her head. "I think he was in the tub." She looked back up and around at the circle and the whirling air around them. "Well, whenever you're ready."

"Right!" Maryl nodded once. The circle began to fill in with lines and writing as she shut her eyes and whispered a few draconic phrases. The gem on her wand began to glitter brightly in tandem with the circle below as the visage of the two girls began to fade. As they dissapeared, the winds around the circle died down and the circle itself faded, vanishing too.

After a short trip up the porch steps and a quick key to lock routine, Seth entered her home and shut the door behind her. After taking off her shoes and leaving them at the landing, she made her way halfway to the kitchen before being intercepted by her father. "Dad?"
Kel turned around noticing Seth walking up. "Ah, you're back. Where's Maryl? It's almost dinner time." Kel did an about face starting to walk toward the kitchen.
"She's at the refuge.", Seth blurted out as she followed.
"Went to check on them again eh? What's going on at the camp?"
"Fire attacked and burned all the farmlands and killed a lot of people. The remaining western Earth people are in the camp now. I had to take a request to the chancellor so fire won't attack earth anymore."
Kel turned around somewhat confused, "An injunction isn't likely to save the camp. And how do you know fire killed everybody, maybe they just took themselves a few cities worth of slaves."
"That changes nothing, dad..."
"No, I suppose it doesn't. The union powers are currently limited though. An injunction wouldn't change anything either. Your only chance now would be to move the refugees to a safer zone." Kel stopped in the kitchen at a pot on the stove. He lifted the lid briefly then shut it. The aroma of clam chowder filled the room. "Call Maryl back. It's dinner time. We can discuss what to do for the camp afterward."
"Okay... How do I do that?"

Kel turned away from the pot and dropped to a knee, placing his hand on his daughter's shoulder. "Concentrate on Maryl, just picture her in your mind."
"But what is?..." Seth half asked, completely baffled.
"Just do it!", Kel commanded. He took a deep breath and sighed, "Are you doing it?"
Seth closed her eyes to focus, "Yes."
"Seriously?"
"YES!"
"Okay, now imagine whispering into her ear, 'it's time for dinner'." Kel cast a hand out, moving it across his field of view as he said this. He left his arm out with his hand pointing essentially ahead though nowhere special.
"Okay..."
"Now, call out to her. Say 'It's time for dinner!'" Kel found this pretty amusing even though he could keep a straight face.
"WHAT?!" Seth opened her eyes and looked up to her father perplexed and feeling like he was making fun of her.
"DO IT!" He stressed through his teeth as he clenched a fist.
Seth sighed, She closed her eyes to concentrate again and...

...After finishing a brief conversation with Maryl, Seth opened her eyes again and looked up at her father. "So, when did I learn telepathy?"
"When did you learn to walk, fly, and talk?" Kel said as he stood up and went over to the cabinets.
"Dad! Seriously..."
"It's an innate ability. Remember, in our true forms we don't have mouths or vocal cords. We had to communicate somehow, right?"
"I guess... But, are we really that much different from everybody else?"
Kel retrieved three bowls and brought them to the table, placing them before each chair. "It doesn't have to be a bad thing. As long as we all get by in this world everything is fine, right?"
"Okay... but what about Maryl?" Seth took a seat and slumped over, looking at her hands.
"You should be able to tell just as well as I do, the ridiculous level of mana she has. She's just as much an outcast as we are. Regardless, we accept her and I'm sure she accepts us."

Maryl emerged from a circle of light, finding herself on the porch of the house again. She entered through the door and locked it back once inside, calling out "I'm home!" She then removed her footwear and traveling gear and made her way to the kitchen quietly.

"Welcome back, kiddo." Kel announced to Maryl as he took pot and ladle and started portioning out chowder.
Seth gave out little more than a warm welcoming smile.

After sitting down at the table, Maryl smiled back to Seth. She had almost forgotten, "Oh, did you get the injunction?"

Seth sighed, "Yeah. The chancellor is issuing it now but... He says he can't make any guarantees though. For a worst case scenario, we need an evacuation plan. Preferably to somewhere that isn't in a war zone."
Kel sat down and started eating as he listened in quietly on the conversation.

Maryl started to eat as she listened to Seth speak. After hearing her finish, Maryl looked down at her bowl again, "Well, we can't just portal and drop them anywhere. The camp had existing buildings and easy routes to places where we could get supplies. I don't know if we can find another convenient spot like that." She glanced at Kel, wondering if he had anything to say then went back to eating.

Kel noticed Maryl's quick stare but didn't react.
Seth thought for a moment. "We could take them to the Hillocks of Olynthis."
"That place isn't well defended. It's protection lies in seclusion, much like the current camp. Also, it's in a different nation, so a whole different set of hostilities will rise from it."
"But dad,"
"I'm not saying no, I'm just describing the situation there. If not, maybe Terra Tanta is finally dried out. Don't mill over it so much right now though. The tension will only throw you off. An attack isn't likely in the works because the camp isn't even on the map. Fire and water might be lead to believe that they've cleared out all of western earth."
"I guess... I guess you're right."

Maryl ate quietly, nodding somewhat in agreement. She and Seth were pretty spooked after finding out about losing two whole towns. She couldn't help but wonder what would have happened to those people. It was difficult, but Maryl managed to shake the feelings of worry for the time being.

Something else came to mind as seth quietly ate her chowder. After finishing a bite she looked up toward her father and spoke again, "Oh, hey dad, how is my shortsword coming?"
Without even looking up, Kel replied, "It's almost done, you can have it tomorrow morning."
"Okay" Seth smiled and nodded cheerfully.
