"Maybe..." Kurai paused to dash the drying tears away, angry with herself for breaking down like that. This had to be hard for Shiro, and she wasn't making it any easier with hysterical fits like that.

"Maybe you'll be able to see auras like I can...maybe I could teach you...?" She hoped it would be the case, though she worried it might be a singular gift. Perhaps because her brain was wired differently, it opened her up to unique power. But she wanted so much for Hitsugaya to be able to see again. At least, see something.

Hitsugaya was completely surprised by her suggestion. He thought about the potential and the difficultly as well. He nodded and smiled, "You know... even if you managed to teach me... I would never be able to see you as well as you. We can still try though." He said with excitement in his voice. Pressing his lips against hers, he enjoyed her soft apple crisp flavored lips.

He was going to enjoy spending endless hours with her.

"That's ok. You'll be able to see a little, I hope," Kurai replied smiling at his kiss. She couldn't stifle a soft yawn, though. Emotional outbursts always made her tired. "Maybe you could see my aura. I've always wanted to know what it looks like...Only, I'm not sure how to really teach you... I only sort of remember learning it from Yoruichi,"

"I don't mind at all, I'm kinda curious what you see as well. Hahaha. So... When do we start, love?" He asked her eagerly.

[Hahaha sorry, short post... I'm going to go to bed now alrighty?]

[no worries, 'cause I'm super tired, too ^^]

"Um...I don't know..." Kurai admitted, leaning her head against Hitsugaya's chest. She sighed, focusing on the steady rhythm of Shiro's heart. "But I don't feel like moving just yet. Can we stay? Just like this for a little longer? I can hear your heartbeat,"

"Take as much time as you want." He said quietly leaning his head against the tree trunk and closing his eyes. Kurai's skin was extremely warm against his chest. He enjoyed the feeling that she provided as he stroked her hair between his fingers.

He smelled her essence as it emitted a sweet smell that he loved. He couldn't quite place the smell, but he loved it. He held her tightly in his arms, silently listening to her breathing as she listened to his heart.

Kurai sighed, lulled by the heavy thud of Shiro's heart. It elicited a memory she rarely thought about anymore.

When she was still imprisoned in the Maggot's Nest, she used to have disturbing nightmares. They had worsened as she grew, intensity peaking around the time Yoruichi had discovered her.

Kurai remembered the first time Yoruichi had visited while she had been sleeping. Kurai had awakened, screaming from some particular dream--it had scared Yoruichi half to death.

After her initial shock, Yoruichi had held her (Kurai had been young--she still fit in Yoruichi's lap, back then), and Kurai had fallen alseep to the sound of her sister's heartbeat.

Kurai smiled, though she had no intention of falling asleep on poor Shiro. She wanted him to be able to see again, if only a limited basis. Now, if only she could remember how to teach the technique--it came so naturally to her, now...

As the sun began to set behind the mountains. Hitsugaya opened his eyes, and gazed the area. He looked down at her face, her eyes were closed. It would first appear as if she was fast asleep. Realizing that she wasn't, he didn't dare to move at all.

He guessed she found some kind of comfort laying on his chest listening to his heartbeat. He wondered what she was thinking about at the moment, was it him? Possibly, possibly not. He didn't ask.

His own mind began to wander off to past memories as well. He thought about his grandfather, Grandpa Hitsugaya. I wonder how he's doing...

[Flashback]

Gripping the wooden hilt of the katana, he smirked at the the ancient figure in front of him, guickly drawing breath. That figure, was wearing a black kosode and hakama. Over his kosode, he was wearing a white jacket with his previous captain symbol on it. He had silver rimmed rectangle glasses on his eyes. He had a short beard on his chin that was neatly trimmed in a form of a goatee with the absence of a mustache.

"How was that Grandpa?"

"You've improved... always mind your surroundings."

Old man Hitsugaya began to walk back toward the house with a smirk on his face. Hahaha... that boy... He thought with a smirk. Toshiro threw his wooden katana to the ground and rand after his grandfather laughing.

" Will I ever beat you one day grandpa?"

"Hahaha... maybe... I'm getting to old for this."

Grandpa Hitsugaya smiled again as he looked at his grandson. Young Toshiro looked up at his grandfather and laughed again.

"I'll race you home grandpa! Mom made our favorite!"

[Back to present]

Toshiro laughed at the memory and smiled. I should visit him when I get the time.

Kurai finally shifted, rising and stretching languidly like a lion that had been dozing in the sun. It was later, now. While she had trouble with shadow and light, she could always tell when dusk arrived--it always had a certain scent.

"I don't really know how to teach the technique to you," Kurai admitted sheepishly. "It was Yoruichi and Urahara who figured it out. When I was a child, they would notice that I followed them with my eyes even when my senses weren't so highly developed. They finally figured out that I kept seeing flashes of color that told me where they were--that was how I used to see auras,"

She rolled her shoulders, drinking in the scents of the slowly-darkening forest around them and the forbidden Clan House nearby. "I think it's a latent ability that's developed when the body's deprived of its most important sense. I think it developed because of my absolute desperation to be able to see the people I cared about. It's why I was able to see Yoruichi first, then Urahara. It was years before I could see people I didn't feel a certain attachment to... Does that make any sense?"

Hitsugaya listened intently at her explanation and instruction. It took him a second to understand the full concept of the technique. It was either learned through extreme training or developed naturally depending on one's incentive.

"So, I'll only be able to see you for a long time. Do you know how to at least start the technique? We can learn how to remake the steps together."

Kurai grinned ruefully. "Maybe I'm just a poor study. You'll probably catch on more quickly than I did. Plus, you're older, so that should afford some modicum of discipline.

"I guess the thing about auras is that it's not just an indication of power like a reiatsu sense is. Rather, it's like seeing a picture of someone's soul. I first used it unconsciously, but in order to refine the ability, I would focus all my senses on the person I wanted to see.

"So, maybe, if you close your eyes, or at least your right one, and try to focus on just me," She blushed slightly at the suggestion. "I mean, there might be someone you're more familiar with who might be easier to 'see' for you, but....you know, since I'm here, we can try it..."

She fumbled, then continued, abashed. "So, anyway, try to block everything else out except my scent and the feelings you detect from only me... It might be a bit harder for you since your senses are--" She grinned crookedly. "--only human,"

Toshiro smiled at Kurai's blushing. He enjoyed her teaching him this incredible feat without any sort of outside distractions. Walking closer to her as she finished her last sentence with a grin, he closed his right eye and pulled her closer to him."I guess you would need to be A LOT closer to me then."

He looked at her with his clouded left eye and smiled. Leaning in closer, he began to slowly inhale Kurai's sweet scent through his nose. Exhaling his cold breath through his mouth onto her skin.

He resisted the urge to kiss her neck, he knew better. His heart began to pump faster as he breathed on her neck. Thinking about only her and nothing else. Calming his breathing so it was quieter, he began to listen to Kurai breathe.

The entire world soon became non-existant to him as he began to get extremely absorbed in what he was doing to Kurai. He lightly brushed his lips against her neck while forming a smile in doing so.

Shots of gold began to slowly pulse where he was smelling her. It vaguely outlined her neck.

Gasping from what occured, he opened his eyes and flinched backward. The shooting gold stopped all together as his concentration broke, bringing him back to reality.

Kurai had hesitantly twined her arms around Shiro's waist. She closed her eyes, enjoying his icy scent and the feel of his lips on her neck, rather than focusing on the lesson.

Toshiro flinched, and Kurai immediately jumped back, alarm coloring her tone. "Are you ok? What's wrong?" Her heart was beating overtime, though whether from surprise or Shiro's touch, it wasn't quite clear. "Are you hurt?"

Panting at an accelerated pace, he looked at Kurai. Forming a smile through his teeth, "Gold... hahaha your aura is gold. Just like your eyes." He sighed before smiling again.

"Kurai... can you describe to me... what you see? And how you manage to see that aura. Do you need all five senses in order to see any sort of aura?"

He walked closer and held her close again. He wasn't going to react the way he did earlier.
