Valzar shrugged, "It still sounds like magic, the manipulation of elements and energies..."

Callista shrugged. "It's not magic like in the way the mages use magic. We can't cause stars to fall or water to flood...I don't think. We can call the rain and throw the lightning, though. That sounds more like what you're talking about."

Valzar's eyes widened slightly. "Throw lightning? That I can not do..."

Callista smiled. "We use it to clean up after a fight with a Vampire and to incinerate one's heart. The hunters throw it at Vampires too, if they're trying to escape. It's an excellent element."

"I bet you could if you wanted to. Maybe not exactly like my people, but if you found one of the mages, they might be able to show you...I thought you studied this stuff?"

Callista raised an eyebrow. "You can't learn everything from a book. Sometimes you have to have someone show you how. Don't you have a mentor or something like that?"

Callista grinned. "You said you read almost every book. You didn't say you asked. Maybe your dad knows a trick that's not in the books? It never hurts to ask."

Callista laughed. "Ok. But that's still not asking. If you've read all the books in his library, you should come and read some from mine. You might find something in them that you didn't know before. And then you could teach it to your dad and he'd be stunned that you're so serious about your learning."
