Kara grinned, "Has he tried? I know they're trophies, but I could only imagine him trying. It would be interesting to say the least... at least I could see my younger ones doing something like that..."
Though at this rate, she figured, she wouldn't have many young ones left besides Jin.

Donovan didn't have anything productive to say about Adonai he hardly knew the boy. Cindy probably knew more about Adonai than he did. He wondered if he should worry or not, but then again he could be phase...
"No..." he replied, "I didn't know that actually."
Perhaps he could go meet them before he left, he probably still had time and if not he could maybe... possibily extend the time he was staying to see them. He knew most of the fighters... most of the people, but he knew there were people he would never get to meet or just haven't met yet.

Aliya giggled softly. "No, he hasn't tried," she grinned, "but if he didn't spend so much time with Aragost, I think he would. He used to play with carved toys and the like, but now he just wants to learn - though, again, I'm not going to complain. Though I suspect ... that if Adwin and Alyse were ever to get their hands on them, they wouldn't hesitate."
"And I'm quite certain that Adanedhel wouldn't hesitate to test what he's been learning on them if they ever tried," Ulrich retorted. "He's too defensive of them. It's not like most of them are fragile, after all."
Ulani nodded, then shrugged. "Well, the sooner the better, because Halmir won't let Arthael keep doing guard duty for much longer, and of course after the baby's born ..." She trailed off and shrugged again, but there was a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Yes, but they are his trophies, he might not even see them as something to play with," Kara pointed out, "If he is overly defensive of them. Not to mention if he uses them to recall every lesson he's learnt, he has emotional attachment to them."
At least that was her reasoning, it didn't make it right, but she had a rough idea why he might be over protective of his collection.

Donovan looked at Ulani for several silent moments as his mind did a backtrack over what Ulani had just said. It didn't take much to put two and two together, however he hadn't been that long ago for him that he could recall the two arguing... debating.. having a loud debate.. whatever. He could even recall Elros not even being sure of putting the two on guard duty together at times, even though he would admit Arthael could keep Halmir on track.
Nevermind the fact that Halmir had once been the person that Ulrich sic'd on him because of his need to draw pretty girls (something he found out way after the fact).
"Did you just say something to the effect that Arthael is pregnant and she and Halmir are married?"
Sail too she wondered, or was it something else? Lin wasn't aware fully of that other place where some elves would go, "Only that he said one day he would visit the Borderlands again. I think it bothered him when I told him how close one of the slavers came to the Ranch."

"I agree," Aliya nodded, "and luckily the time to test his patience has not come."
She glanced at Ulrich. "I suppose the best way to prevent it is to start with them ... small rewards for learning - key word small, the last thing we need is three collections like Adanedhel's."
Ulrich sighed weakly. "I don't suppose Alyse at least would be happy with dried flowers?"
Ulani blinked innocently at Donovan. "Who me?" she asked in mock surprise. She started counting on her fingers, muttering to herself. "Hmm ... fighters ... Arthael ... Halmir ... baby ..." She turned back to Donovan and shrugged. "I suppose I did."
She paused thoughtfully, glancing at Kara. "Has she met either of them yet?" she asked curiously.
Elros sighed with relief. "Then it doesn't sound as if he's leaving," he smiled at Lin. "Well, that's good news. He is right to be bothered about the proximity of the slavers, though, but ... at least here on the ranch I don't think we need to worry about them. We've been spreading out a bit more on our watch, too, to catch anyone who might be nearby."

Kara tried to think back on how she taught her own children, it was generally not hard to teach them, they tended to have their eyes set on the future and were easily impressed by the adults in their life. Though even she had tried a few things before letting the course of nature take over.
"Hmm... I can't help you there," Kara murmured, "The only time I've done a reward system similar to that was with cookies... alphabet cookies if I recall correctly. I never could do kanji cookies, they were too complicated."

Donovan nearly twitched, he also owed someone else a visit... maybe he could ask Kara though, she was better at this baby thing than he was, "Yes, both Halmir and Arthael. I forgot now what they were doing outside, but now that I think of it... I rarely met one without the other in all the times I did seek one or the other out."
Well first family among the fighters, this should be interesting.
"Did you think he was going to leave?" she asked.
Honestly she was sure he would have mentioned something if he was going to leave, and for the life of her she didn't know where.

"Well, I'm sure we'll figure something out," Aliya smiled. "After all, I was raised without anything like that, and I turned out just fine."
"Your reward for learning something was to get something else to learn," Ulrich agreed, folding his arms across his chest. "Maybe you'd be better off doing that with the children instead of giving them material goods."
Ulani laughed at Donovan, she couldn't help it anymore. "Probably sparring, they still spar a lot and probably will until Halmir won't let Arthael anymore. At any rate, I was thinking two more fighters, since of course Arthael won't be doing much, and Halmir, knowing him, would want to spend some extra time with her - and the baby, after it's born."
Elros smiled at Lin. "I was afraid he might," he replied softly. "After all, we have been in this land for a very long time, and he especially would want to see the Valar again. They were ... the closest thing he had to parents, really. But it doesn't sound as if he's going to, so it's all right."
His smile grew slightly warmer. "Now, shall we continue your lessons?" he asked her. "It's been quite a while since you've been here, after all."

"Yea it was probably that," Donovan murmured, "It was quite a while ago when Kara got introduced, her first visit to the Ranch actually. Huh.... well, that's understandable. Two fighters it would be then...." he raised a brow for a moment, "Any other news going on?"
Though he suspected that might be the biggest, but he could always be wrong. After all it had been several years here since the Ranch had been founded. Geez, what a scary thought.
"Okay!" Lin nodded, "I would like that."
The more she could understand what was going on around her the better she felt.

Kara mused, "Well each child is different, you'll probably see as you go along."
At least that what she thought, since each child had different interests in different things.

"I think we're already seeing that," Aliya agreed with Kara. "But if they were all the same, how boring would life be?"
Ulani thought for a moment before shaking her head. "No, nothing else," she shrugged. "Really, life here goes on as it always has, except that now that Elros and Celeborn go out on their own sometimes, we have children to take care of a bit more often."
A moment later, there was a knock at the door, and Celeborn stepped in, his hair neatly braided now, and fully dressed. He nodded a greeting Kara, Aliya and Haradhel, then moved to sit with Ulani and Donovan and Celebor.

Donovan nodded and waited until Celeborn was sitted with the rest of them before turning ot Ulani.
"Well that would be all of us," he told her, "Shall we begin?"

"Of course," Ulani nodded. She reached into the top of her tunic and pulled out her vision crystal, the sunlight streaming in from the window reflecting off its many surfaces and spattering the wall with rainbow light. She cupped it in her hands and looked up at Celeborn. "Which group?" she asked him.
"Both," he replied solemnly. "And we will see what we can do about them."
Ulani nodded. "The larger one first, then," she agreed; and she held the crystal up and began to sing softly.
Images swirled in the depths of the crystal, colours that melded together and showed reality. It showed a group of about eight children being pushed along by four slavers, and Ulani made the view smaller and smalled until Celeborn nodded, satisfied that he knew their location. Then the image changed completely, showing only two children being dragged by two slavers - one human, one dwarf this time - and then again showed their location.
"They're not far apart," Celeborn commented, looking up at Donovan. "We could get both groups. I would not rest easy, in fact, if we did not."

Donovan couldn't disagree, after all they could grab two, and with three people instead of the usual two would make it a bit easier. He nodded at Celeborn's comment.
"It should be fine," he admitted, "We might as well, how professional do you know Celeborn are these people?"
