Nefir, quite used to dark spooky places, bounced around like a pup on holiday and took off down the nearest corridor. "Just explore! Last one to find treasure or a secret room keeps burps in a bottle!" He ran down a corridor, the torches barely able to light his way, up several stairs and down another hall before screeching to a halt and looking around. He noticed a door that stood slightly ajar and he carefully walked into it. He saw a narrow corridor festooned with cobwebs. He walked through it showly, unaware that the door had quietly closed behind him.

Shimofuri ran quickly after Nefir, yet unable to match his pace quickly fell behind. He was already heading up the stairs by the time she was halfway through the hall. "Hey! Wait up for me!" she called as she started up the stairs, the cobwebs brushing against her legs and arms and the light from the hall below begging to fade from her view. She managed to catch a sight of him run into a door, and it close quietly as she finally caught up, but when she tried to open the door it was locked. She banged on it, loudly, screaming for Nefir to let her in and struggling to try and force it open.

Nefir thought for an instant that he had heard Shimofuri yell out, but he had gone down so many witchy little twists and turns in this tight corridor that he couldn't find his way back should he try. He quickened his pace, confident that the corridor would eventually lead somewhere.
He finally squeezed through a small door and ended up in a hallway of regular size and covered with tiny cobwebs spun out of silver filigree. "Finally," he said, stretching his cramped legs and striding boldly down the hallway. He reached about midway when suddenly there was a WHOOSH, and the floor was suddenly gone beneath his paws. He yelped in surprise and managed to grab one side of the square hole with his front paws, his back paws trying to find purchase. He managed a quick peek down at the bottom if the hole, and he saw what looked like dozens of writhing golden snakes with ruby eyes and gleaming silver teeth. "Oh, bugger," Nefir mumbled, and yelled at the top of his voice. "AHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Shimofuri continued to bang on the door as Nefir's footsteps became fainter and fainter. "Open up... please...," she whimpered as she slid down the the door slowly, her legs giving out. Just as she was about to cry out in fear, she heard this loud, echoing click, and she looked up to the cobwebbed roof to try and figure out where it had come from. The door began to creak as is slowly began to open, and she pushed hard to create a gap large enough for her to go in. She ran and ran down the dark, winding corridors, searching. A broad smile streaked across her face as she saw Nefir, only to be quickly diminished when she saw him hanging. She bent down and grabbed onto his paw and began to pull him up from the pit, her hands growing sweaty the whole time from fear and weariness. She smiled once more as she pulled him out, and sat on the ground, shaking and huffing out, "A-are you ok N-Nefir?"

Nefir saw Shimofuri coming and frantically reached out to her, nearly losing his grip. When he was finally out, he sat there and panted, his back legs quivering. "Thanks. That was....a pretty unpleasant surprise. Guess this castle has a.....mischevious streak." Suddenly a grinding noise sounded all along the corridor, and little golden nuggets of floor began breaking off of the mouth of the hole and landing in the pit below. Nefir crept close to the edge and peered over, then he rushed back really quick. "Uhh, Shimo........the pit floor's rising. And those snakes look nippy." He looked anxiously at Shimofuri. "RUN!" He fled back the way they came, hollering at the walls. "This is supposed to be a castle, not a temple from Indiana Jones!!"

Shimofuri looked up with wide eyes as she felt the rumbling of the floor. She quickly stood up, nearly tripping herself in the act, and began to run back to where they had come. She covered her head as she ran to shield it from the debris that fell from above. A smile of relief swept across her face as she turned to see the light from the slightly agar door. She sprinted those last few meters, practically running into the near wall opposite the door as she exited. She slumped down it, and huffed, her hands and body still shaking.

As soon as he saw that Shimofuri was out, Nefir jumped up and hurriedly pushed the door shut. He sighed with relief and looked up at the ceiling. "Hey! I know you can hear me cave! I know you want some friends to play with, but making a bunch of gold snakes chase us is no way to make friends!" He huffed and sat down. Suddenly, the floor began to shake again; softer this time, like a massage chair vibrating. "Not again-!" Nefir was trying to steady himself when a door at the end of the corridor that he swore hadn't been there before, and the floor was suddenly decorated with shiny golden arrows, all pointing to the door. Nefir shrugged and looked at Shimofuri. "Think it's trying to apologize?"

Shimofuri carefully stood herself up as the rumbling ended. "There's only one way to find out," she said before giving Nefir a small wink, and beginning to walk towards the door. As she walked down the corridor, she sword that once she passed an arrow its color dulled, and then when he did it disappeared. She waited at the door for Nefir, and then carefully began opening it. A breeze swept through the hallway as she opened it, and the faintest traces of mint came with it.

Nefir closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Wow....that smells really refreshing...." He rushed to the door and carefully eased it open. He walked through it and right into what smelled like a gigantic patch of mint. He gasped and looked around.
They appeared to be standing outside, in the midst of what seemed like the world's biggest mint patch. Delicate little flowers peered out here and there from the bunches of green leaves, and if Nefir looked over to his right, he could see a forest, looking strangely familiar. "Hey! That looks just like the forest we came from!"
He turned to look at Shimofuri and goggled. The door seemed as though it were opening in thin air; the castle was nowhere to be seen, and neither was the cave. It looked as though they were genuinely outside. As if to confirm it, a warm breeze blew through the patch, ruffling his fur and filling the air with mint.
He turned and looked at Shimofuri. "I.....I guess the cave said goodbye to us, and no hard feelings......" He pouted a little. "But I thought we could take a treasure with us....." He put a paw up to his head and suddenly felt cold metal. Encrusted with jewels. He let out a gleeful yelp and pulled off his king's crown. "Look! My crown! And yours is still there too!" He placed his back on and smiled at Shimofuri. "Looks like we're still royalty after all."

Shimofuri smiled as she felt her own crown, the simple gem design on it running smoothly under her fingers. "It does seem as though it is time to leave," she said as she took her hand down from her head. She carefully walked out into the cool patches of mint, and turned around to offer a hand to Nefir. As she let go, she quietly spoke, "I guess I'll be heading off home them, bye!" and waved as she set up in a light jog towards the forest.
