Part I – The Sentinel

Player: Surreality
Name: Sandstorm
Nicknames: Sandy, though hardly anyone is ever brave enough to call her so at this point.
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Adult
Hatch Date: 08/09/20??
Type: Desert
Task: Ranger
Personality: Sandstorm is not a sentinel to be taken lightly, or to even joke around with. In fact, she's been known to become irrationally angry at those who try and poke fun at her, even in good jest, with the end usually resulting in a few good scratches, hurt prides, and a tongue-lashing like one wouldn't believe. Sandstorm avoids social interaction as much as possible when it comes to her own personal life, and it suits her just fine as a ranger. She enjoys her outings to her assigned territories to The Not So Cold Reaches, and is proud of the work she's done in her post. Her goal is to become apart of the Elite; a Corporal, even, as she feels that Sergeants spend their time a little too cooped up for their own good.
History: There isn't anything out of the ordinary when it comes to her history. She was minded as a hatchling, much like any other sentinel in those times, and excelled in her academics when schooling came about. There was a brief period in which she bullied others to do her bidding, but it soon stopped when a Teacher realized what was going on and forbade her to continue. She 'graduated' as one of the top five in her generation, and immediately set off as a Ranger, rarely to be seen by others [aside from her Corporal] since.
Territory: Across the Sweet Open River, south of Deep Woods.
Mate: None
Companion: Yes

Part II – Companion

Names: Dune
Species: Lani
Age: Young Adult
Speech Ability: 1
Intelligence: 4
Skill: Helps Sandstorm with hunting and various other ranger duties. Also, while she may not admit to it, the young lani has also become her most favorable companion, and will unlikely ever let him go or replace him.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: Moriko Omori
Name: Stormbringer
Nicknames: Storm
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Young Adult
Hatch Date: 11/11/200?
Type: Ghost
Task: Ranger
Personality: Stormbringer is quiet and solemn, and has a horrible temper that is easily provoked. He has a general dislike of other sentinels, preferring to spend his time away from the general clan as much as possible. As such, he has developed a sore vanity and harsh judgment.
History: His father was also a ranger, and took heavy pride in his tasks throughout his life. It was first on his list of priorities, even before his mate and children. He was always out patrolling, and once he had time to be with his family, he realized what the time apart had done to them and so threw himself harder into his work. Stormbringer and his mother rarely ever saw him after he became a fledgling, and soon his mother began to break down with the strain of worrying about her husband. Seeing her like this made Stormbringer wonder what kind of Sentinel his father was, and after his mother died of a broken heart, he vowed to avenge her death if he could. Unfortunately and unbeknown to them at the time, Stormbringer's father had died quietly beyond the boundaries, leaving no word for either of them.
Territory: Just outside the deeper woods so that he may have better access to the grounds for patrolling, a small area surrounding a tight collection of large trees (4 to be exact), their roots entangling the ground below, arching and twisting well above the heads of any man, and then driving back down into the dirt. Their bark is dark and cracked, similar to Monkey Puzzle, and their leaves are small and close to pine needles. A hollow in the largest tree serves as his roost, the bottom previously laid with pine needles and feathers from its previous resident, now dead. One of the tree's thick branches is a perch just under the hole, and its length is woven amongst the other trunks.
Mate: None
Companions: Yes

Part II – Companions

Name: Meren
Species: Chirop
Age: Adult
Speech Ability: 4
Skill: Able to locate groups of small prey (i.e, mice, bugs) closer to the ground for himself and Stormbringer to eat, should they be far from any other sentinels as their duties often take them. He is also quite fast, able to relay messages quickly to the warden should the need arise. A part from these skills, Meren prides himself in his developed speech ability, and likes to use it to cheer up his otherwise dour friend.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: ShinosBee
Name: Hazel
Nicknames: None
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Young Adult
Hatch Date: 04/16/200?
Type: Deep Woods
Task: Ranger
Personality: Witty, humorous, and a bit quick to anger, Hazel is one of those females who attracts the boys not for her looks, which are a bit too masculine for many of them, but for her personality. She is always cracking jokes, be it at the expense of others (read: anyone withing eyesight, regardless of rank/name) or herself. Most especially herself. Anyone and everyone is a fair target for her, including the Elites, Mystics, and even the Brigadier (though she doesn't let him hear it...mostly). Despite this, she does know when to be serious. When a friend is in need or danger, she is the first to fly to their defense and will fight to the death if need be. For all that she’s small, she is afraid of next to nothing. One of Hazel's quirks: She loves chatting with any type of companion creature, but will dead straight refuse to get one for herself. Highly emphatic, she's well-known for catching all the rebel spirits in a group of chicks. Another: despite problems in the past regarding fledgling foolishness, Hazel loves storms.
History: Average beyond description. Hazel was hatched third chick of four to a pair of watchers and led a completely normal life, quietly bending herself to the tasks she was given. She was given over to train as a hunter no earlier than usual, and progressed through the ranks at a normal rate. Eventually she was decreed good enough to be considered a true hunter, and she now spends her time gathering whatever live foodstuffs she can find.
Territory: Quite a tiny home area, her nest takes up only one tree. She resides in a crook of an old pine at the edge of a glen of tall grass, in which she does most of her hunting. She isn't really at home much, and you're far more likely to find her about in the more populated areas of the woods or scouring some thicket for tasty mice or other delectables. Her roost is on the north-east edge of the clan's territory, quite close to the land known as Cold.
Mate: Liam

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: xSilverKitsune
Name: Raine
Nicknames: Rae-Rae (nobody but Hazel should call her that...)
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Adult
Hatch Date: 13/1 (Day/Month)
Type: Deep Woods
Task: Ex-Minder, now Ranger
Personality: To the few that have met her, and the even fewer who have befriended her, Raine is considered to be very unstable. Oftentimes she will hiss and display aggression at one second, then act like nothing had happened the next. She does, however, attempt to control herself around children. Being an ex-Minder, Raine holds a soft spot in her heart for young Sentinel fledglings. Her strong protective instincts ensure that she will stop at nothing to defend what she perceives as “precious life, yet unburdened by life’s failures”. Frustrated at her own shortcomings, Raine is constantly punishing herself. She will sleep in a cold, barren oak when a perfectly cozy pine tree is merely a short flight away. She will fly in the open, subjecting herself to risks that “sane” creatures would never take. Most bizarre of all, she deems herself as “not fit to be a Sentinel”, often preferring the company of her Martes, Hazel. Ironically, these very same qualities that cast her away from society, were perfect for her profession. Raine follows her commander’s orders without question, suppressing (or even lacking) personal opinions. She is dutiful to a fault, and cannot easily tell the difference between moral right and wrong. Not one to place trust in others, Raine chooses to not form many strong attachments, with the exception of her Martes. Only sometimes, on the coldest of bitter nights, does she wish for something more in her life…
History: Any Sentinel worth her mice knew about the minor scandal that had occurred just a few years ago, pertaining to a hungry Martes and a young, unwary Minder…In time, however, the many rumors and speculations distorted the line between truth and falsity. And the only two creatures who knew the truth had slipped out of the Midner’s enclave in the dead of night. Around the same time, a Sentinel named Raine had exiled herself to the lonely life of a Ranger…unwillingly accompanied by a companion she seemed to despise.
Territory: As a Ranger, Raine tends to roam on the outskirts of Noctua. She does, however, have a little bit of land to call home. In the Cold Forests, just shy of the Far Cold Reaches, Raine can be found keeping a watchful eye on her territory, usually from the topmost branch of an old, misshapen oak.
Mate: None.
Companions: Yes

Part II – Companions

Name: Hazel
Species: Martes
Age: Young
Speech Ability: 2
Intelligence: 4
Skill: Nobody knows why Hazel follows Raine, or why the solitary Sentinel tolerates his company for that matter, considering the history they share. It may have something to do with Hazel’s hunting skills, which saved Raine when she sprained her wing. Maybe it was his persistence, his fleet-little-feet that kept up with Raine no matter how fast she tried to fly. Or perhaps…it was Hazel’s charming ways that taught the Sentinel something called…forgiveness…

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: silvercanon
Name: Kelila
Nicknames: Kel
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: young adult
Hatch Date: 13/11/200?
Type: Deep Woods
Task: Ranger
Personality: Kelila is a slightly shy individual. She very rarely speaks out and when she does it’s not in front of a large gathering. Under pressure situations, she observes the scene before making any decisions and will not be rushed into making a stupid comment.
History: After a terrible accident that killed both of her parents Kelila became an orphan. She was unofficially adopted by the clan’s minders and received excellent care. Although Kelila was never treated harshly she began to become more and more withdrawn from the other fledglings her age. Despite many attempts from the adults to include her, she never really fit in; she was always the one on the outside observing the social interactions of others. She watched and learned but never tried to associate with anyone unless they started a conversation with her first. When it came time to choose a profession Kelila immediately decided to join the rangers and she was happily rewarded. She was granted a territory far away from her home territory in the deep woods and received a chirop as a messenger. For several years Kelila has been stealthily observing her territory and training her only companion, Icarus. With age she has lost some of her shyness and is now only hesitant about addressing another sentinel.
Territory: Kelila lives near the border of the forest territory. She lives towards the southwest corner and near the river, since she tends to prefer fish to other types of meats. She does, however, cross the border several times a month to watch for danger, strangers and to drive game into the forest.
Mate: None
Companions: Yes

Part II – Companions

Name: Icarus
Species: Chirop
Age: Adult
Speech Ability: 5
Skill: Kelila trained Icarus herself while near the border so he has a very good grasp on language and concepts, but he doesn’t really have that many skills. He is Kelila’s aid that keeps her company and will deliver messages to the Warden on Kelila’s behalf. Icarus has a love for dried fruit and will even go to the extent of setting it out in the sun.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: Mogami
Name: Earlyblossom
Nicknames: “Eri”, “Blossom”
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Adult
Hatch Date: February 10
Type: Wildtype
Task: Ranger

Personality: Eri can be a bit aloof at first but she’ll warm up quickly enough if one takes the time to gain her trust. She doesn’t seem to like being around fledglings, minders or anyone particularly Will-gifted and although she seems to know a lot of sentinels, not many she considers her friends. She is a little numb romantically-wise so it will take a male with a lot of patience and determination to court her. Eri doesn’t really like physical contact or any kind of invasion of her personal space, keeping a good distance from sentinels she talks to. She is immensely fond of bards and being entertained as it takes her mind off old memories. There is a bit of a cold, calculating side to her though, and it is one that has been growing lately. She silently evaluates sentinels and judges how influential and useful they might become in the future, choosing her friendships wisely. But don’t think she’s a cold or gloomy character, no no! She’s the type that always has a smile on her beak… especially when she doesn’t mean it.

History: Her fledglinghood passed without any major events worth mentioning but Eri graduated into a strong and proud hunter. She was good at her task and quickly got the attention of a slightly older wildtype hunter. Long story short, after a passionate courtship period, the two became mates and she laid two perfect eggs. The two hunters stopped working in order to raise the eggs because Eri had been raised by minders and always felt like she was missing something. Being the only fledgling that never got visits from the parents at the small enclave she grew up in, Eri had decided she’d raise all her children. However her first clutch was taken by the Mystics, one as a hatchling and the other shortly after reaching fledglinghood. If the couple was bitter after their first child was taken, they were in painful grief and anger after the second vanished. The hunters couldn’t overcome what they saw as a tragedy and decided to go their separate ways. Eri’s second mate had completely different views on the whole matter and when their only child was also taken as a fledgling, he was very proud to half-raise a Mystic girl and he even played a part in her disappearance. He got a nasty scar from Earlyblossom in return and almost lost an eye (though he did lose his mate).
About a year has passed now and she wonders why her children never come to visit, if they’ve forgotten her or even if they’re alive at all. She never speaks or even thinks of their names. Eri also wonders if her parents were particularly gifted mystics (it brings her some comfort as she hopes her children have somehow met her family) and if Will abilities skip a generation. She’s afraid to mate again and is seriously considering adopting a fledgling or”experimenting” a male of an inferior different type. She still wants to have children but she’s not sure she’s willing to take the chance of producing more gifted children.

Territory: She used to have nice spot right at the center of the Deep Woods but has now found a small patch of trees in the East much closer to where she currently works – Right where the Cold and Not-cold mountains meet. She has a good number of friends (even if not very close ones) and will often pay visits to the Deep Woods in order to keep in touch with them. If Earlyblossom finds a potential third mate, she’ll probably run around from place to place, keeping a very low profile. She is really paranoid now - actually, don’t tell anyone, but “the Mystics are watching her…”.

Mate:None at the moment.
Companions: Only one because her faithful mus was eaten when he refused to release the last fledgling to Eri’s second mate.
Certificate: Coming soon!

Part II – Companions

Name: Whiska
Species: Mus
Age: Adult
Speech Ability: 4
Intelligence: 5
Skill: Whiska actually belonged to Eri’s second mate but was trained by the female and was too scared of her former owner to follow him. She really liked to work and play with Eri’s mus so she hated watching him get eaten. Eri and Whiska don’t seem very close but the little mus certainly gets the job done and has been one of the few constant presences in Eri’s life. Whiska scouts for land predators, drives small animals from their hiding spots and attracts the attention of larger game to allow Eri to go for the perfect kill.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: Chikagi
Name: Whisperwind
Nicknames: Whisper
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Young
Hatch Date: 28/11/2007
Type: Deep Woods
Task: Ranger
Personality: Painfully shy even when spoken to, she falters in her speech to nearly everyone except her companions. Nearly paranoid that people are secretly watching her, she spooks at almost any movement, making her unstable in social occasions. However it keeps her on constant alert despite apparently mundane conditions of the forest. Not minding the solitude that accompanies her position, she passes the time by composing songs to herself and sharing them with her two Parus, otherwise sitting in absolute muted silence. Deathly afraid of the Ground, she keeps watch from high in the trees, and has accompanied herself with the Canopy instead.
To avoid the Ground at all costs Whisperwind hunts what she can find in the trees, risking entanglements in branches and injury. Her main prey becoming the Skurri that live in the Forest trees, she is occasionally forced to brave the Ground in order to find more food as a last ditch effort.
History: Though Whisperwind was always shy, her fear of the Ground had not reached it's peak until her first excursion from the nest. Refusing to attempt flying with the other fledglings and the careful supervision of the Watchers and her parents, she waited until they had left her alone. Stepping out tentatively from her nest she eased slowly farther and farther from her safety, suddenly becoming spooked she panicked, toppling from her perch and falling to the Ground. Half dazed and wild with fright she floundered about with her small wings, alerting the forest floor to her presence; and in a moment something was upon her. She remembers a flurry of feathers and the harsh shrieks of her parents as they fought off her assailant, her father dragging her up before she lost sight of everything. Awakening later, she found herself nearly untouched, but the bereft faces of those around her told her that her mother had died on the Ground, her father succumbing to his wounds soon after.
She blames herself and patrols the borders tirelessly as punishment. Ashamed of herself, her shy mannerisms increased dramatically to the point where she feared being seen, causing her to leave the Deep Woods as soon as she was of size, refusing to take part in the graduation and celebrations. She has not been back since.
Territory: Whisperwind patrols the territory nestled between the Swift Open River, the Great Western Open, and the immense expanse of the Far Not Cold Reaches. Far removed from the normal community of Sentinels, Whisperwind rarely meets any visitors. She holds two main posts, one at the mouth of the Swift Open River where it flows into the Western Open, and where the Great Western Open meets the Far Not Cold Reaches and Forest.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: FerretPrince
Name: Cillian
Nicknames: Cill
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Adult
Hatch Date: 11-19-??
Type: Aberrant (Mist x Ghost)
Task: Ranger
Personality: Chances are, Cill doesn’t like you. It’s nothing personal, or at least it’s not you personally that he dislikes. It’s just that he, personally, dislikes you. Antisocial, rough-edged, and rather caustic, this Sentinel isn’t exactly a fluffy-I-love-you type and he wastes no energy in pretending to like anyone. Highly intelligent, he has long ago come to the conclusion that everyone is an idiot. Until an individual proves to him otherwise, he treats that individual like an idiot. He feels that simply surviving a tough life has given him the right to be a b*****d to just about everyone he meets. Luckily, since he’s a ranger, he doesn’t tend to meet many others.
He does have some sort of soft and gooey center somewhere in the fluff of all those feathers. It just takes some serious searching---and a somewhat masochistic personality---to find it. He’s very loyal and rarely hesitates to fight anyone at all.
History: For someone with such a caustic personality, Cill’s life as a hatchling was fairly boring. At least, as far as his family goes. His mother loved his father and vice versa and they both loved him, especially since he was the only egg in his clutch (out of two, if you’re curious) that survived hatching. For a long time, he dreamed of growing up to be a Keeper, perhaps raising Mus.
Unfortunately, this love was not shared by other fledglings, once Cillian was old enough. This led to the young Cillian getting into fights and a lot of them, usually about whether or not he was really a ‘true Sentinel’. His parents would usually try telling him that a true Sentinel was the one who could ignore the jeers of others… but, the young Aberrant really didn’t think that worked out. Besides, if he didn’t fight back, then the jeers would usually turn into attacks anyway. At his father’s urging, he did try to get along with others. He really did. Well… sort of… at this age, his caustic personality started to develop, leading a few pure-breed Sentinels to think that they were right all along about Aberrants. Eventually, he just sort of gave up.
Territory: He travels around a lot, but there is one particular area that he generally comes back to in the Cold Forest. It’s not much, just a group of pine trees, but it suits him well enough.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: Shinzick of Teh
Name: Maplewing
Nicknames: Maple
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Adult
Hatch Date: 03/03/200?
Type: Wildtype
Task: Ranger
Personality: To sum up in one word, Maplewing is practical. She has no patience for games or humour, and often is more than willing to express this. The world seems quite black and white to this Sentinel; everything is either efficient or useless, and those that are inefficient have no place among the clan. She seems quite separated, almost distant, much like many of her fellow Rangers, and isn't exactly an amazing delight to converse with.
History: Born to two Rangers, Maplewing has completely devoted her life to her task, and is known for her dedication to her task. She comes from a long line combative wildtypes, and had been raised on knowledge passed down for generations. She has lived most of her adult life alone. It was rumoured that she once had a mate, although no one seems to know much on the matter other than she has seemed to have grown a lot colder over the last few years.
Territory: Maplewing's territory can be found on the very edges of the east. It is bordered by the Cold Forest, and the river is just a quick flight away.

Part I – The Sentinel

Player: Meepfur
Name: Oakbark
Nicknames: Absolutely not.
Species: Sentinel of Noctua
Age: Adult
Hatch Date: 11/01/200?
Type: Deep Woods
Task: Ranger
Personality: Oakbark is not only fiercely independent, but downright fierce. Testy and bullheaded, she's a prickly sort who's practically impossible to get close to; well, that's not entirely true - you'd just have to put up with her for long enough, which would be no small feat. It's not so much that she dislikes company...she's just, to put it tactfully, socially inept. She voices her thoughts as soon as they cross her mind, and they're usually not what someone wants to hear. Blunt though she is, that same trait lends itself well to her brutal honesty. No matter how difficult she is to get along with, she is steadfastly reliable with a black-and-white sense of right and wrong. If something needs doing, she can be counted on to do it, and do it right the first time.
History: Though she has family, Oakbark rarely sees them. They find her just as hard to get along with as everyone else!
Territory: Oakbark makes her small home at the eastern border of the Cold forest, wedged between the Sparkle River and the mountains.
Mate: None
Companions: Yes
Certificate:

Part II – Companions

Name: Chirop
Species: Chirop
Age: Young
Speech Ability: 4
Intelligence: 3
Skill: Oakbark uses her Chirop as a messenger - a disposable messenger. She never bothers to actually name her Companions, calling them simply by what they are, and she goes through them at a worrying rate. Sooner or later, usually during a fit of annoyance, she eats them.
