Sokiran I don't actually play Warhammer 40k yet, but I've been looking for a store or shop that actually sells it, and trying to decide what army I want to start with. I thought I might do Tau, but they seem too expensive sweatdrop Any help? space marines though i think marines are WAY too wildly used, i do beleive they are the perfect place to start for many gamers, as they are versitile and strong, which helps for unexperianced players. they are also simple in design and easy to paint, really only three colours minimum can be used (power armour, bolter/metal parts, eye colour really). and because of the simplicity of their power armours design, they can be painted reletivly fast, without much skill. also since now every model is plastic now in a marine army, (expet for chaplains, librarians and scouts with sniper rifles) there easier on the pocket and better to work with then metals.

Dont play marines. Look over the fluff and glance through the rule book for each race. Find which one you like then sink some money into em. DOnt get marines and find out you wanna play gaurdsmen

Chaos is one you can sihnk into. They can be good for anything, plus, who doesn't want to be the bad guy once in a while?

I figured this would be the right place to field such a question.
I have the Rule Book now and ive been reading through it and im at the moment trying to decide between 2 races.
The Imperial Guard= I like how they look as they are like real soldiers and i like the fluff behind them and everything.
Necron= I also love the look and the fluff and their playing style seems interesting.
Both seem very appealing choices, ideally I would want to make a ranged combat type army, so my guess is that the IG would be a good choice but i figured id get your guy's opinions on this one.

Go for necrons. Because they're so points expensive, you don't have to spend a great deal of cash to get a decent sized army. Plus they're relatively easy to paint if you feel like not trying. Spray black, drybrush boltgun, and you're set.

Hmm the Necrons seem to have won this one.
Im not made of money so i would save some money. Simplicity to paint is good because I am not very good at it. Plus i like the backstory and fluff to them.

The thing about necrons is that they can become dull somewhat fast. As my name might indicate, I am a Necron player, and I have found that Necrons have very little variations in pose (im my opinion). Now, my brother plays guard so I have the codex available to me. It is possible to play a guard army without taking hordes upon hordes of models, but might be a difficult route for the beginner. Honestly, it's all up to you and what you think within your means. Considering your financial state, Necrons would probably be a better choice.
Whatever you do, make sure you have fun while your at it. smile

For guard the best why to start is to start with 500 point combat patrols and then as you find your style and what you want in your army you can decide what to buy next my its those extra infantry men or maybe you want the Armoured Company, right now i have a Armour Co and an Infantry Co

Well i suppose ill wait till i meet several conditions till i fully pick one side.
One I would need a job to finance this fun but expensive seeming hobby and two, I need to find somebody to play with. Which i havent had any success in so far.

yup Xeno Muntants Heretics and the like. All must be destroyed and the galaxy cleansed of their taint
you could always go with a guard Armoured Co
36.00 USD for a Leman Russ Tank
108.00 USD for 3 Leman Russ Tanks
3 tanks + upgrades = 500pt Armour Co combat patrol
