"There's got to be some sort of irony in this," the trainer noted, sitting down. "You want the first move again?"
"You think you're so clever," Barry sneered, adjusting his hat. "You can lure my Pokemon in and hit them right away? I won't have it! You have the first attack!"
"Fair enough." Jett nodded toward Silcoon. "Poison Sting, please."
"Sil!" Silcoon growled before firing the familiar barrage of violet needles at the Butterfly Pokemon. She merely danced out of the way, letting out a petulant cry. Pathetic! What kind of Beautifly do you think you are!? Finally, a few of the needles scratched the surface of Beautifly's wings, and she let out another cry.
"Absorb!" Barry called, and the Pokemon released a slew of green orbs, trying to collect Silcoon's health. "Now your Silcoon's limited movement is a curse, isn't it!?"
"You sure talk a lot," Jett muttered, watching the Beautifly recover a little. "Silcoon, you wanna try it?" Silcoon merely rustled forward and backwards, growling furiously. "String Shot!"
Silcoon was preparing for this. He attatched himself to the tree and began to draw himself up when--
"Halt anything in their tracks! Try out your new move! Gust!" Beautifly let out another cry and blew Silcoon right into the tree with the powerful blast of wind.
Stupid... Silcoon thought groggily, feeling his health deplete. The String Shot, thankfully, had not snapped in the attack. You stupid... thing...
"Crap," Jett hissed. "C'mon, Silcoon! I know you have it in you! Tackle!"
"Sil!" Silcoon drew himself up more and began to swing back and forth angrily.
"W-what're you doing?"
"Silcoon!" That string snapped. Silcoon hurled himself through the air, bending his rage and anger and forming it into anything that would harm this pathetic excuse for a Beautifly! He connected, and the two tumbled down, with Silcoon pinning Beautifly down on the ground.
"Hurry, Beautifly! Gust!"
"Poison Sting!"
Silcoon felt the wings, not completely pinned down by him, begin to feebly stir. He responded in kind by firing needle after needle at the Butterfly Pokemon, but most of them missed. But then there was the Gust and he flew, but he felt himself begin to fade out. "Sil...!" Silcoon growled tiredly, firing the last few needles that hit dead on. He fired and fired and fired until things faded out and...
The two Pokemon lay on the grass, both fainted, and Jett looked up, smiling a little. "I told you he'd take your first two Pokemon."

"Are you ready to finish this battle?" Barry grinned, pulling out his last Pokeball. Jett did the same and nodded. "Go, Dusty!"
"Go, River!"
River emerged, putting on her battle-face. She was prepared. She would not fail this time! Then River was face to face with a moth that donned a sinister grin. "..."
"River, it'll be okay! Don't worry!" Jett called. "Your turn for the first move."
"Dusty, go! Use Confusion!" Dusty let out an odd noise before firing off the Confusion, hitting a very surprised River.
That thing hit her with her own signature move. The first thought River had was, Wow, was I really doing that to everything? Then, That's a really annoying feeling in my head.
"C'mon, River! Try out Double Team!" Jett called out hopefully, and River did try it out. Or, at least she thought she did. In reality, River merely swayed for a moment before a small burst of smoke materialized.
"You'd think a Psychic wouldn't get Confused!" Barry laughed. "Try out your Gust, Dusty!" Dusty did attempt his gust, but all that appeared was a small breeze.
"Confusion, please."
"It won't work!" Barry laughed. "You only have a 50% chance and even then, Dusty can dodg--"
River blasted that moth out of her face without a moment's hesitation, and then she directed her now frightening gaze towards Barry, the master of all Bug Catchers.
"As you can see," Jett said, resting his chin in his palm, "new moves don't always work. And River isn't Confused." Nor could she be, thanks to River's adopting Dustox's Shield Dust ability, but neither of the trainers really knew that.
"F-fine! Use Confusion again!"
"Use your own Confusion, River." River found herself smiling as she watched the two telekinetic waves collide in mid-air. "Okay, try for Double Team!" Still, River wasn't good at that. She focused and focused and then, one of her actually appeared! But only one. At least it didn't disappear.
"Gust!" Dusty tried his best, but then there were two Rivers and they ran around and around and around... He tried to use the Flying move, but the Poison Moth Pokemon only succeded in creating another breeze.
"Confusion!" There was a shrill shriek from behind Dusty, and he turned and watched as River glared at him and the air distorted and--
"Toox!" Dusty groaned, trying to flutter and stay airborne.
"Confusion!" River would not have that. She ran and ran with her little clone and Dusty fired and hit one! ...which only exploded into smoke. There was a small rustling, and Dusty turned around, only to be hit by River yet again. With one final "Dustox!", the noble Dusty collapsed and fainted.
"You may have won this time, Jett Forrest," Barry, master of all Bug Catchers, muttered as he recalled Dusty, "but I will be back! And one day, you will be defeated!"
"Thanks for the battle!" Jett called as Barry stormed off. He recalled River and grinned at his Pokeballs. "Very nice work, guys!"

Riza eyed the Drifloon warily before taking out her Pokedex to scan it, a little intimidated by its flashy entrance. While the device gathered the information she looked over her shoulder at Crenu as he told her he'd pass. "Fine, do what ever you want," she huffed, feeling a little hurt that he didn't want to stick around and watch the match. After all, she had wanted to show him just how tough her Pokemon were becoming. 'Whatever, I don't need him looking over my shoulder anyway, he'd probably just end up distracting me.' She glanced down at the Pokedex as it finished uploading the information and she read it over quickly. "Drifloon, the Balloon Pokemon. It likes damp, humid seasons. It is said that any child that mistakes a Drifloon for a balloon and holds onto it could end up missing. Yeah, that was helpful," she grumbled, though she did note that it was a ghost and flying-type. She knew right away that Akima would be the best choice against Fantina's Drifloon, but she'd had a lot of chances to fight lately. 'It is part flying-type, so it's weak against electricity,' she thought, taking Yula's pokeball from her belt. 'We're also gonna have to work on our entrances,' she thought, giving the sphere a toss, revealing the happy and energetic Kirlia. Yula did a bit of a dance and shimmered a bit as she copied Drifloon's ability, Aftermath, to use as her own.
Fantina simply shrugged as Crenu went off to do his own thing. "Suit yourself," she said, dismissing the grumpy boy with a wave of her hand. She watched eagerly as Riza released her own Pokemon, though she gave another disappointed sigh. "Zat was not a very interesting entrance," she said, clicking her tongue and waggling her finger. "I sincerely hope your battle abilities are better." She gave a bit of a twirl and pointed at the Kirlia. "Drifloon, commençons fort! S'il vous plaît utilisez étonner!" The Balloon Pokemon cooed complacently before it sped forward, quicker than one would expect, and it began to spin as it neared the Kirlia, attempting to slap her repeatedly with his tassels for an Astonish attack.
Riza tried to pretend like she wasn't offended by Fantina's comment, but in truth she was. She grit her teeth and tried to calm herself by taking in several deep breaths. She had no idea what attack Fantina had just issued, and Riza quickly realized that giving her Pokemon French commands gave her a huge advantage. Riza quickly opened her Pokedex again, the page having saved on Drifloon's entry but she didn't look at it, instead opting to try and play this one smart. 'I know I can't use Swift because it won't effect the ghost-type, and Magical Leaf will be weakened because of the flying-type,' she thought, deciding to make a snap decision. "Yula, dodge," she called out quickly, knowing she had to keep her confidence in check or it would affect the psychic-type's performance. Yula gave one quick nod and looked up at the oncoming Drifloon, putting her weight back on one foot before she gracefully hopped up and over the Drifloon, throwing in an aerial pirouette for added effect. "Awesome!" Riza cheered, knowing very well that Yula's graceful dancing and movements would be valuable assets when it came to scoring points in the appeal battles. * * * * * Kord continued to watch his two teammates battling from the comfy perch of Katie's shoulder, his little eyes wide with wonderment. He eyed the Staravia carefully, trying to figure out which one was the real one. "Bii!" he called suddenly, pointing to the one on the right. He was sure that Noa was the real one!
Nell tilted her head to the side, her ears twitching as she heard the baby Elekid calling out to her. The Buneary smiled and waggled a finger at him, the young Pokemon had much to learn. She looked back up at her opponent, not looking too worried even as four Staravia were now flying straight at her, their wings glowing brightly, Steel Wing. The rabbit Pokemon smiled to herself. It was almost too easy. She crouched into a kneeling position, both ears rolled up tight against her head. Even though she knew which Staravia was real she still had to avoid her, as Noa was quite a bit stronger than she was. The four birds all closed in on her all at once in a double x-like pattern, two flying higher than the others, and Nell waited for just the right moment to jump.
The first two Staravia soared under her harmlessly as she launched into the air, but those two were mere clones so it mattered not. The two higher ups were the targets of Nell's attack and with a fierce cry she let both her ears unroll sharply at the same time, landing a double pound attack on both the clone and Noa. Fortunately, for Noa, the Buneary's attack power was not tremendous and it was more of a glancing blow than anything else. Even still, Noa let out an angry chirp and glanced down at the Buneary, who'd landed gracefully after her sneak attack. She was going to have to try and outsmart that little rabbit, and perhaps teach her a lesson.

The salty breeze tugged at Venerax's jacket as he looked about at the cape in the daylight for the first time. The rocky and rolling coast line was laid bare before his dark eyes. He smiled at a Karrigan. He apitomized trouble in his hat and suit and meowth belt buckle.
"Just a couple of friends I happened to run into," He said with a slight chuckle. He drew back his coat and withdrew the two pokeballs attached to his belt. Rolling them around in his hand idly. "Ready to me them?"
Without waiting for a reply he launched the pokeballs into the air. "C'mon out Booky, Calistra."
In a flash of white light the two pokemon appeared. The hoothoot was the first to appear from its ball. Fluttering around more akin to a hummingbird than an owl. It landed infront of the shinx, hopping back and forth from foot to foot. And quirped a "HOOT!" at the electric pokemon.
Next to appear was a beedrill, that buzzed angrily as it stretched its wings and limbs. It glanced back towards Venerax with a glint in its insectile eye. With speed great speed, it spun around and buzzed towards its trainer. Its stingers out to strike out him. The beedrill stopped just shy of Venerax but he jumped none the less. The beedrill made a rhythmic buzzing sound that could only be guessed as a laugh before flying to explore the area some.
Venerax took his hat from his head and wiped his forehead. "That was Calistra," He said a nervous chuckle. "She's new to the group."

"You guys were awesome!" Jett exclaimed for the fifth time. The three had long since healed and now they explored Rustboro City, Silcoon in Jett's arms and River at his side. They entered Rustboro's very own train station, glancing around curiously.
"Silcoon?" Silcoon asked, as if to say, Where're we going next?
"I have an idea, don't worry," Jett smiled, staring longingly at the train. "There's just... something I wanna see for myself, you know?" Both of the Pokemon blinked and River nodded once. "Where do you guys wanna go next? We could go eat lunch or--" At the mention of food, both Pokemon nodded eagerly and Jett grinned. He was hungry himself. "Okay! Let's go eat!"
---
"How's Rustboro, honey?"
"It's really nice, Mom," Jett smiled. "We even added a new member to the team!"
"Oh?"
"Uh huh, he's a Silcoon."
"Oh, I just love Beautifly!" Jett was fairly sure that this would not be an endearing Beautifly, but he merely chuckled in response. "I have to go, all right! Your father and I wish you luck on your gym battle!"
"All right, bye!" Click! She was gone. Jett smiled a little, before he got up and turned to a napping Silcoon and River. "Man, we have an important battle coming up, huh?" The anxiousness had long since disappeared.
Jett was ready.

A bell chimed, and the nurse came out of the back with two trays of pokeballs. "Your pokemon are all rested." She called over to Crush and Tailor.
"Mahalo." Crush thanked the nurse as he retreived his pokemon.
"Thanks, ma'am." Tailor smiled and got his krabby back.
"So where to now, little brah," Crush smiled. "This is your hometown, why don't you show me the sights. And then I'll head over to the gym."
"Okay! Sure!" Tailor beamed. "Follow me, I'll show you the school first."
Crush messed the kids hair. "Lead on, little brah"

Jett emerged from his room, humming cheerily as he strolled down the hall. He stared at the ground, knowing the path of the lobby. He was so ready for this battle and--
WHAM.
"...Gah," Jett muttered, stepping back. He looked up, realizing he had ran into someone. Some tanned... surfer? With a little kid? "...S-sorry. I wasn't paying attention." I wonder if they're from Dewford... that'd be pretty cool.

"Ah no harm no foul, brah," Crush said in his usual languid tone with a smile. "You weren't the only one not to stop, eh."
"Names Crush," The tall surfer held out his hand. "And this little dude here, is Tailor. This is one way to meet people, eh brah?" He continued in the almost disarming manor that came to him.
Crush was a surfer through and through. He wore a muscle shirt and brightly coloured shorts. His shoulder length blue black hair was tied in a loose ponytail and he wore a necklace of Sharpedo teeth around his neck. There were at least three pokeballs hanging from the waist.
Tailor looked like any other school boy, his short cropped brown hair was touselled, his knees scraped, and his hands and face dirty. Tightly grasped in those 'been out playing all day' hands was a single pokeball that he held ever so protectively.

"I'm Jett, nice to meet'cha," Jett offered a polite smile, shaking the surfer's hand. He almost offered Tailor his hand, but saw the Pokeball and smiled knowingly. "You guys're trainers, right? Are you gonna challenge Roxanne, too?"
Jett really liked asking that question to strangers he met.
At the thought of facing Roxanne, his hand lifted up his jacket slightly, brushing his fingers over the two Pokeballs. His new family. He stared off for a moment before he snapped back to reality, smile never faltering. He only hoped that he hadn't missed an answer.

"Yah, brah," The surfer smiled. "Heard she was the gym leader around here. Thought I'd give her a challenge seeing as I rode the waves all the way her." He added with a chuckle.
"Tailor, here was about to give me a tour of the town," He nodded to him. "He's from the city."
Tailor nodded.

He surfed all the way here...? That's so cool! Jett thought as he nodded swiftly. I sure found some interesting people... but I shouldn't really... invite myself to go along... No doubt, he was tempted to.
"Well, I guess I'll see you around!" Jett said cheerfully, making his way to the door. "If I don't see you before then, good luck with Roxanne!" He casually stepped out, grinning all the while. Although the encounter was brief, it was somewhat interesting.
I bet he has lots of Water-types... Roxanne should be no problem for him!

"Hey wait up, Brah." Crush caught up to Jett. "We were going to check out the pokemon school in the city then catch the wave to the gym. Care ta join?"
"The school's amazing, Roxanne got her start there," Tailor chimed in.

"Sure! Thanks!" Jett's grin broadened at the thought. He swiftly stepped back into the PokeCenter, waiting for Tailor to take the lead. Or, at least, he thought Tailor would take the lead, since he knows his way around.
"Man, can you imagine that? Seeing one of your own students come back as a powerful gym leader...? That's gotta be cool."

Miharu followed after the two friends quietly, not really able to hear much of their conversation, if they were having one at all. She wondered idly what Kya's family was like and if she had any brothers or sisters, and that got her to thinking about her own family. She hadn't talked to her dad in quite some time and she was starting to miss him, and she couldn't help but wonder if Kya had the right idea about going home again.
She looked up as she heard her name and nodded. It was quite unlikely that she could get truly lost, but she didn't want to fall behind and get left alone. She remained silent as they followed after Kya, their pace slowing significantly as they reached what must have been her house. Miharu stopped and studied it, deciding it looked like a nice enough place even though she could never live in a big city. "I suppose this is where we part ways?" she asked somewhat sadly, but she knew that it wouldn't be the last time they saw each other. After all, now that Aska was a fully-grown Pidgeot, it would be very easy for her to fly around and visit Kya and Sam and any other friends she might meet in the future.

Kya bit her lip and nodded. She kept staring at her house, as if expecting it to burst into flames at any moment. Sam watched her, concerned. "Do you want us to go in with you?" As she said this, Sam heard shouts coming from the house. Startled, she looked back to the house, and saw two little boys running out.
"Kya!" they both screamed, "You're home!" Kya knelt down to hug them, and they jumped into her arms. They could be no older then 4 or 5 years old. Kya stood, holding both boys in her arms.
"Sam, Miharu, these are my little brothers, Noah and Michael." Noah waved shyly, while Michael stuck his thumb in his mouth. Sam smiled sweetly, and waved back.
"I guess there is no reason for us to walk you in then..." Kya's happiness at seeing her brothers faded.
"Yeah...well...um...bye. I guess I'll call you guys later, update you on how things are going." Sam nodded, turning red. She sighed, and briefly hugged Kya, who still held her brothers in her arms, then turned to Miharu.
