“I’d be happy to join you,” Venerax said as he stood gathering his coat and hat from the back of his chair. “It’s been awhile since we’ve had some decent training beyond the wilderness.”

“Shall we train outside?” He asked as he moved to join her. “We’ll see you later, Bill.”

"Alright, I'll get to work," Bill smiled. "Don't get yourselves in trouble."

Tailor was all moon-eyed with the prospect of travelling across Hoenn just to have a look. "Are you going to compete in the league gyms too?"

Crush laughed. "Yah, little brah, who wouldn't pass up the chance to take on some gym leaders."

"Wow," Tailor sat back. "So you're going to challenge Roxanne then."

"That's the plan, little brah," Crush smiled. "Soon as we're ready."

Obeying Mia's recent order Tangelo launched another two vines, one veering to the left and one to the right, just as before. They sped towards Rhyme with alarming speed, only giving the Pokemon a few moments to react. "Quick Attack!" Mia shouted, "Go right, then jump!"

The left vine shot forward first and just as Mia had instructed, the Floatzel maneuvered herself to the right to avoid the attack. The stream of white behind her, helping her evade the Vine Whip. Though just like before, now she was coming face to face with the second vine. Using her hind legs for leverage, she pushed upwards, the speed granted to her by the Quick Attack, key to pushing her upwards fast enough to avoid the vine. Rhyme landed easily back on the ground, after having avoided Jello's attack.

"Nice!" Mia cheered, pumping her fist into the air. Her joyous mood continued, though she was certainly serious about the training at the same time. "Now," she paused, looking to her two Pokemon, "Again! Do it again."

Rhyme and Jello both nodded, ready for more action. It was going to be their first gym battle, and no way in heck were they going to let some Rock Gym Leader take them down. They couldn't let down their trainer, it wouldn't be allowed. They shifted back into place.

Miharu smiled at Sam's comment about Star. "I'm sure she'll be quite happy with that Ice Beam TM," she said, deciding to wait a little longer to reveal her surprise. Then again, she wasn't even sure that Sam would want to borrow the HMs in the first place, so she awkwardly tried to tuck them into the side pocket of her bag as they headed for the elevators. "Oh, well not really, since I didn't need to buy anything," she said as they waited for the elevator doors to open, and once they did the two girls entered. "I wonder if Kya is finished with her shopping," the green-haired girl mumbled idly as they headed back down to the main floor.

"Boy, they sure have expensive stuff here," Jett muttered, examining item after item in Rustboro's very own PokeMart. "Way to be poor... all right, I guess this is the best I can do for now." Jett placed one Potion and two Pokeballs on the counter, almost tearfully parting with $700. More than half of his money was gone. (Purchasing one Potion and two Pokeballs!)

"It's worth it, right, River?" Jett asked the now released Ralts as he left the market. The Feeling Pokemon nodded, consolingly patting Jett's shin. That was the extent of her height, sadly enough.

"Okayyy!" the trainer yawned, enjoying the sunlight and the clear skies. It was such a nice day! "Are you two ready?" Jett had settled for merely the city limits, a small grassy patch free of people but open enough so that he wouldn't feel claustrophobic. With an added flourish, he tossed the last Pokeball into the air, releasing Silcoon, who fell dully and let out a wary growl.

"River, it seems you have a new move to try out!" Jett sure seemed in sunny spirits this fine, fine afternoon. "I want you to try it. Use Double Team!"

River seemed to recognize the name of the move, but she couldn't quite put her finger on how to do it. Finally, she held her breath and tried to multiply herself. The only thing that happened was a brief after-image of the Feeling Pokemon appearing beside the original. River scowled angrily.

"Aw, that's okay," Jett kneeled down, patting his friend on the head. "Practice makes perfect, right?" River nodded vigorously. She would not lose like she did to that... thing. "Okay, Silcoon. We're gonna try something that might help you with the movement issue. I want you to use String Shot on that tree there."

"Silcoon!" Silcoon growled angrily. Of course, that's easy! he thought as one of the white spikes shot a sticky string, attatching to the bark of a nearby tree.

"Okay, now, try to like... draw yourself up... can you do that?" Jett asked hopefully, not wanting his strategies to be put down. Silcoon blinked and rolled his eye before attempting to draw himself up into the air by the string. It was a hesitant and shaky exercise.

"Good, good!" Jett grinned. "Okay, now, use that to like, fling yourself at River and use Tackle when you detatch!"

Detatch? Silcoon thought. Why would I detatch? But, all right. He would try. The Cocoon Pokemon shakily swung back and forth like a pendulum before he felt an energy gather inside him. Tackle! He swung forward and the string snapped. However, momentum was a subject that went over Silcoon's head, and he merely remained in mid-air for a second or two before falling on the grass. His eye glared at Jett angrily.

"...S-sorry," Jett muttered, sitting down. "Like I said, practice makes perfect, right? Don't worry, we have the whole day. We're going to have these moves down!"

Sam noticed Miharu fumbling to put something in her bag, but since she said she didn't buy anything, Sam decided not to ask. Sam was generally a very nosy person however, so the curiosity was building inside her. 'What could she have possibly bought or had that she doesn't want me to see? Maybe it's something illegal! No, Miharu wouldn't do that...I think. A present? For who? Maybe she has a boyfriend she is going to meet...' She glanced sideways at Miharu as they entered the elevator. 'If that's so, that has got to be tough. Being seperated all the time? Though I guess they can now keep in touch with phones, and Miharu could always Fly to him...Huh...' This line of thought proceeded until they reached the 2nd floor. Sam barely heard Miharu's comment, but it wasn't necessary, she was wondering the same thing. "Come on, let's go find Kya. Oh wait, I think I see her over there!" She exited the elevator, beckoning to Miharu, and stood on tiptoe and waved to Kya, who was across the floor.

Kya saw Sam waving, and waved back. She couldn't smiling at Sam's enthusiasm. Still, the smile held a little sadness, as Kya knew that it was now time for her to leave the group. She wandered over to Miharu and Sam, carrying her purchases in her arms. "Time to go to my house I guess..." she said, trying to keep her voice joyful. Sam raised an eyebrow.

"Oh don't worry Kya! You can always catch up later! And besides...Here wait, hand me your Pokegear." Kya pulled it out, and Sam took it, quickly programming in her own phone number. "Easy enough, ja? Now you can get all the annoying spam texts I send." Sam chuckled lightly, before gesturing to the stairs. "One more floor down, then it's off to visit Kya's house. How long you planning to stay there anyways?" Kya scuffed her shoe on the floor.

"Not entirely sure, maybe a day or two. Just to catch up on everything. Goldenrod is such a huge city, and everything happens at a million miles a minute." She and Sam headed for the stairs.

"Okay, so we know what we're practicing now," Jett grinned, arms folding over his chest. "All right, River. You're up. Let's try this again!"

River stepped up to bat. Then she wondered exactly what that meant. After a good minute or two of pondering, she shrugged and shook her tiny little paws. Double Team, go! She tried to... well, River would describe it as reaching for some energy within her like she did for Confusion, but it was kind of hard to get her mind around it. She glanced beside her, met only by a cloud of smoke.

"You had one up," Jett said, resting his chin in his palm. "You're getting better, River! All right, Silcoon. Your turn."

"Silcoon!" Silcoon muttered vehemently at the general public of the world. String Shot! He attatched the sticky white string to the bark of the very same tree and with a maddening slowness, drew himself up into the air. "Silcoon!" Now for the hard part... The Cocoon Pokemon swung himself forward and backwards, before carrying on as he swung forth. The string snapped and Silcoon did his best to thrust himself forward, only to flip once in mid-air, carry on, and dive into the ground.

"...Nice," Jett smiled, and Silcoon rolled his eye again. "Aw, don't worry. We're already showing some improvement, right!? Maybe we don't really have the right... motivation... or the right environment. I mean, River learned Confusion only because of a battle." River nodded happily, remembering how proud Jett had been.

Jett scanned the area for anyone interesting to battle. There had to be something! He could battle them and get some good experience and then his Pokemon could learn their techniques! Finally, he spotted a familiar hat and his eyes met with another's. A grin spread across Jett's face.

"Well if it isn't Barry, the master of all Bug Catchers!"

Karrigan looked over her shoulder at Bill as she and Venerax started to head outside. She didn't quite understand what he meant about them getting into trouble, as she wasn't really the type to go out looking for it. She couldn't say the same for Venerax though and she simply gave a respectful nod before the two of them headed outside. Hopefully Zaira can work off some of this excess energy she has built up, the red-headed girl thought as the kittenish Pokemon darted off ahead of her, sparks of electricity flashing from her legs as she ran.

There were no shortage of good places for training outside of the Lighthouse, and Karrigan couldn't help but to admire the scenery of the Cerulean Cape. She very much missed her snowy home back in Snowpoint City, as it was quiet and very serene there. She could hear the waves pounding up against the cliff face and for a fleeting moment she longed for the silence of her hometown. She bit down on her bottom lip and turned to look at Venerax as Zaira 'viciously' chased after a small white butterfly, though her mews and purrs made her appear as intimidating as a stuffed animal. "So," she said, offering her small, shy smile as she spoke, "what Pokemon do you have besides Cal, Venerax?" she asked, quite interested to find out. This young man was very intriguing to her and she wanted to learn a bit more about him.

Jaeshan continued to stare down into the dark, murky waters below him, his heart rate still significantly high despite the fact that he'd seen no other daunting shapes within the last few minutes. He drummed his fingertips on the railing once more and looked up at the horizon just as the last golden rays of sunlight dipped down and out of view, leaving an eerie orange glow in its wake. Jaeshan felt a pang of unease jab at his stomach and he gripped the railing a little tighter, looking down at his knuckles as they'd gone white. He sighed and closed his eyes, wondering if perhaps he should just go back inside and try to relax.

There was a soft splash some four or five meters away from him, or at least that's what it seemed like, as Jaeshan's eyes were still closed. He opened them pretty quickly and peered out into the slowly growing darkness, as it hadn't taken very long for twilight to set in. "What is out there?" he murmured, sucking in a breath and holding it, and for a moment the only thing he could hear was his own heart pounding inside his chest, and the gentle rocking of the yacht on the water's surface. Then, a tsunami of water seemed to rise up from the still waters, and Jaeshan nearly fell over backwards as he suddenly realized he was looking at a Gyarados.

Blaine raised an eyebrow as Sabrina approached him once her story was complete. "You kids must truly despise normalcy." he said with a light chuckle. "Although, it is nice to know that your frequent disappearances aren't just your youthful impulses combating your duty as a Gym Leader. It is good to see you are safe, Sabrina." The man nodded, then motioned for the girl to follow him to his laboratory. Once inside, he took a moment to frown at the slight mess that was left behind. The door to the bathroom was torn off the hinges, burn marks scalded the tile floor, and some of his drawers and shelves were shifted and scattered. "What in the blazes happened here?" he turned to Sabrina. His sunglasses barely hid the anger in his eyes.

"While it is always a pleasure to see a fellow peer, the question of your presence here remains unanswered. What brought you here to see Mike? My gym is in disarray. What happened here?"

------

It appears so Miss Kasiya, replied the Breloom as he helped the girl to her feet. It must be quite a shock for you. I can only imagine what my master felt when he saw her standing before him. Mike had recalled Portabello right as soon as he saw Nina and Anna, but just judging by his state of mind, it was most likely tremendously stressful for him. But it is a wonderful surprise. Not only is Miss Sabrina back, but Anna as well. This is most certainly nicer than the alternative.

The Breloom felt a sudden pain in his head as Mitsu began to thrash about, awaking with a start. He had seen far too many similar events with Mike to not know what was going on. I nightmarish dream. the Pokemon thought to himself. He saw Mitsu's fearful expression on her face when she notice that he was in the room and bowed disarmingly. He opened up a mental channel to Mitsu alone and spoke. Fear not, Miss Mitsu. I know not your secrets. It is not my business to. However, the energy that is flowing from you is far more familiar than I would like to admit. Portabello looked at Kasiya, then back at Mitsu. Something is no doubt troubling you, and while I will not inquire what it is myself, let me say that personal experience has led me to believe that humans with terrible secrets hidden away benefit not from self-seclusion.

-----

Mike let out another troubled laugh, his body still compacted in misery. "It's hilarious, really."

"What is?" Sasha asked, leaning closer, dreading the answer.

"Most people, I'd say damn near everyone would leap at the prospect of a second chance. While some may be a bit less severe than my case, being dead and all-"

"D-dead?" the girl repeated, horrified. "What do you mean?"

"Dead. Kaput. Passed on. Expired. Nullified. All those lovely synonyms. When I secluded myself in Mt. Ember I had well, a little-heehee-accident." the boy slowly lifted his head up, but kept his mouth under his arms. "Turns out that tumbling down a rocky cliff face does wonders for your anatomy. By what most people would call the greatest fortune, I was brought back by the Legendary Pokemon, Moltres." he reached into his pocket and produced the glowing feather. Sasha's eyes widened at not only the feather, but the whole story.

"I...you...I don't understand..." She was at a loss for words. the girl held her head in her hands as she tried to wrap her mind around it all. "So you died?" she said finally, after moments of contemplation. "What...what was it like?" Her voice quivered, as did her body as she asked the question.

"It's strange." Mike said, lifting his head from his crossed arms and looking up, now noticing Keegan. His expression changed from apathy to a knowing smile as he continued on. "Even as I fell down the volcano, the sharp rocks piercing my skin and bones, I wasn't afraid. I have faced my own death before, but to experience it first hand and be brought back to this world with that knowledge and experience..." he paused, unsure of what to say next. "I wasn't afraid, and when I finally stopped and began to fade, all I could think about was the beautiful silence that surrounded me. No more was I cursed with the burden of my madness, my sins, my anguish. No more was I tormented by Milo, my dreams, or my love. With a final laugh I was extinguished, and as far as I knew, I would remain that way forever. Even while I retell it now, I am not troubled by it. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that it doesn't bother me. Death is supposed to be a terrifying, crippling event, but for me, it was the opposite. Why? I don't know. I don't know if I'll ever know." Mike turned to Sasha and smiled. "Now, that isn't to say that I am not glad to be back now, but when I first reawakened, I was far from happy."

Sasha could only shake in horror as the boy beside her retold his own death with such apathy, such disinterest, that it was like it didn't even happen to him. It was like he was reading the whole thing from a book, or script, softly speaking alone. Sasha had never really thought about death. Even when she was captured by Team Aqua, she wasn't afraid for her life. However, hearing from one of her friends the crushing loneliness that accompanies one's passing, Sasha's mind became abuzz with dooming thoughts. The girl's position soon mirrored Mike's as she huddled up and clutched her knees. "How can you say somes'hing like z'hat with such coldness?" she asked Mike. "How could you have not been scared?"

"I don't think I will ever be able to explain it to you in a way that you will understand." Mike replied. "To understand, you'd first have to know what it is like inside my head." The boy looked towards his friend, who gasped. "It's like a never ending room filled with people all talking at once. Until that one moment at Mt. Ember, I hadn't experienced a moment of silence like that for years. It was...wonderful." Mike looked on towards Keegan and snickered. "So much noise inside me, yet utterly silent to those around me, those closest to me..." he giggled, his laughter causing his shoulders to bounce while Sasha remained nearly frozen in terror.

"What a mess we are." he said, loosing another soft laugh. "Like I said, hilarious."

Miharu caught sight of of Sam's confused expression as they rode the elevator down and she smiled a bit, wondering if she'd managed to pique the other girl's interest. Miharu's thoughts quickly began to wander as the elevator continued its descent. What would she do after Sam's gym battle? Where would she go? Would they continue to travel together? At first she didn't notice that they'd arrived at the proper floor, but Sam's enthusiastic voice drew her attention back. She eyed the armful of merchandise Kya had purchased and raised an eyebrow, but she said nothing, as it wasn't really her business how she spent her own money. Miharu couldn't help but pick up on the sadness in Kya's voice as well, and before she could think twice she'd taken the PokeGear from Sam once she was finished and was soon inputting her own phone number. "There, now we will keep in touch, no matter where we go," she said, her tone sounding a bit final. She handed the device back to Kya and the three of them started down the stairs. Miharu hung back a bit as she knew that Sam and Kya had been traveling together for a while, and she figured that they would probably want to enjoy this last little trip together. I'm sure we'll meet again, she thought, pretending to be interested in the stitching of her sleeve.

River's first thoughts were, Oh God, oh God, not that guy again. He was far too loud and irritating for her tastes and he made Jett give up because she was tired. River was not fond of this person, not at all, but she was mentally preparing herself to beat anything that he sent out. She would not fail!

Silcoon, on the other hand, had no idea what his trainer was talking about. He didn't really care, either, but that String Shot trick might work in battle and he was getting angrier by the second, so a battle would not be a bad idea. The Cocoon Pokemon rustled forward, staring at the approaching figure, and let out a "Silcoon!" that sounded nothing short of bloodthirsty.

"Hiya, Barry," Jett grinned as the master of all Bug Catchers halted a few feet away. There was a small, gentle sigh before Barry, master of all Bug Catchers, pointed a single pallid digit at his foe.

"JETT FORREST," Barry practically screamed. "I'VE BEEN PREPARING FOR OUR REMATCH. ARE YOU READY!?"

"Yeah," Jett muttered, recalling River. "You still have three Pokemon, right?" The master of all Bug Catchers nodded once. "Okay. This one right here," he said, nodding to Silcoon, "he'll take your first two."

"Wahahaha!" Barry laughed. Annoyingly. "Really, Jett Forrest? I am a Bug Catcher! I know the capabilities of a Silcoon! But very well!" He tossed a Pokeball, revealing a Nincada, which growled meekly.

"That's the thing, Barry," Jett said, glancing towards Silcoon. "Ah, you can go first."

"Scratch!" Barry called, and the Nincada rushed forward.

"Harden," Jett replied easily, watching the Trainee Pokemon barely harm his Silcoon. "Now." Silcoon let out a furious growl, startling the Nincada, before he managed to launch himself forward, tackling the thing back. It let out a measly squeak and scuttled away, trying to keep distance.

"This is not an ordinary Silcoon."

Crenu caught the HM and nodded at Riza's comment, putting it back in his bag. He saw the way she looked at his hand, and was almost sure he'd have to come up with an acceptable story. 'Nothing you have to worry about' clearly wasn't going to cut it any more, not right now anyway. But this was not a necessary worry as Riza didn't press the issue. He continued to walk towards Cerulean with her, aware of the people behind but perfectly content with ignoring the questions of nosy tourists. Riza however wasn't able to keep her calm and spun around to confront the person. Crenu would have kept on walking as he was sure Riza would deal with the troublesome stranger quickly, but she quickly became friendly and started a conversation with the both of them so he was forced to turn as well and put up with introductions. The girl seemed rather harmless, no wonder Riza's tune changed almost instantly. But the woman, she was rather...extravagant perhaps. He'd never heard of her before but apparently Riza had. It was hard to believe this was the same girl that had been fuming was now practically jumping up and down with excitement. He let the three women talk amongst themselves, letting Riza speak for him as he remained silent still and stoic the entire time, making notes of everything going on around him. This Fatina, who must have been of French origins, was apparently a famous coordinator. What she was doing here now along with this young trainer wasn't important, though showing up now when he and Riza were so close to entering their first contest was hard to believe. Riza and Fatina were now getting ready to battle now, it sounded like this famous coordinator was going to give them a show. But Shiro had seen plenty from Ken already, and watching the people's techniques just wasn't his style. He'd rather train on his own. "I'll pass." Hands in his pockets he turned away from the ensuing battle, off to find a spot for himself to do a bit of training.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

His feet were starting to hurt from all the walking, especially since they were walking fast to get to the center before it was to late. Once it was in view though he felt a bit of relief, though Train seemed like she was much more excited about it than he was. He had to pick up the pace just to keep up with her, it almost made it seem like this was their ultimate destination. He hurried along with her, and finally they were in, though he was still a bit behind her. Carlos took no offense at Trains request for two separate rooms, that how he had assumed they would do it from the start. His pokemon hadn't been in any battles, so there was no need to have them healed. He took his key and went with her, bidding her farewell when she got to her room as he continued down to his own. When he got in the first thing Carlos did was take a shower, getting nice and clean before throwing on his pjs, which consisted of a light fabric pair of pants adorned with mustached cartoon cacti each holding maracas and dancing. He wasn't that tired yet so he opened the window of the room to let the breeze in, taking his guitar and sitting on the windowsill as he played a gentle night time tune.

Kya was left speechless as she took her Pokegear back. She felt her eyes water a bit. Sam noticed this as they walked down the stairs, towards the front door. Sam was a bit bewildered by this, as she couldn't remember the last time she had cried out of sadness or happiness. She usually only cried out of frustration and anger. Sam placed a hand on Kya's shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. Don't cry." Kya looked sideways at her new friend, her eyes now dry.

"Oh don't worry, I got it together. I'm not usually this emotional." She laughed, embarassed. She turned her head around, and saw Miharu hanging back just a bit, gazing intently at her shirt sleeve. She smiled a tiny bit, grateful that Miharu thought to give them this time together. Sam noticed the same, and she was surprised to find that she was also thankful for Miharu's thinking. Sam found she had become rather close to Kya, though she hadn't spent all that much time with her. This came as a surprise, since she didn't make friends all that easily. Still, she remembered that she had also made another friend, and she turned to her.

"Miharu, come on. You are gonna fall behind and get lost!" Sam said, jokingly. As they exited the store, Kya directed them toward where her house was located. As they approached, and her house came into view, Kya took a deep breath, a bit hesitant to really leave her friends to visit her family whom she hadn't left on the best of terms with.

“Okay Yang, that Gastly is a little bit lower level than you so don’t be too harsh to start with. Let’s give ‘em a chance, go for it with your bite attack if you’d be so kind, er, I suppose it is more unkind, at least for our opponents in this instance.” Moti said as he dramatically stroked his non-existent beard.

”Watch out Yokai, that’s a Dark type attack, you can’t phase through it.” Claire cautioned noting how the silly gas ball was floating in a circle blowing an obnoxious raspberry at the lithe Espeon that charged toward it. “Hm… I think you should be able to use Spite by now, let’s make sure they can’t hit you with another Bite for a while.” Claire nodded. She knew that this battle would be hopeless for her Gastly if it were a real battle, so she’d just play it safe and do her best to wear the beast down, after all, Kokoro needed some training too.

Meanwhile, Espeon had managed to close the gap and quickly pounced into the air, her fangs giving off a black light as they sunk into Yokai’s ghostly haze scoring a super effective hit. But the Gastly was ready for her and was already gathering his own mystic energy and as the Espeon bit into him he released the curse he had built up. As the Espeon landed on the other side, a shadowy imp flew from her body and suddenly she felt that using Bite again would take more energy than before. “Well, well! Nice counter seeing as Bite is pretty much all we have to battle with. Of course we do have one other move but I think we’ll save it for later, right Yang?”

“Kai-kai tastes icky.” The Espeon thought-spoke.

“Why don’t you see how Yang tastes Yokai, let’s take the offensive and hit her with your Lick attack!” The Gastly grinned and disappeared into the floor of their arena waiting for a chance to pop out and give the Sun Pokemon a nice, wet lick to the face.

Silcoon rustled forward and glared at the Nincada. The poor thing let out another squeak and scuttled behind the Bug Catcher's legs. Why don't we just try that String Shot thing again? It'd be a lot more easier... Silcoon thought angrily, huffing out a half-hearted "Silcoon!" to go along with it. He was growing bored with having some staring match at this little coward.

"Not yet," Jett hissed to Silcoon, who glanced at the boy with slight surprise. "Come on, Barry. It's your move."

"You underestimate me, Jett Forrest," Barry, master of all Bug Catchers, growled. "I suppose we have no choice! Show no fear, Nincada! Sand Attack!" The Nincada let out a shrill little squeak and furiously kicked dirt at Silcoon. "Try hitting Nincada now!"

"String Shot," Jett commanded, eyes never breaking the gaze. "Try to catch it!" Silcoon tried his best, but that little thing was quick and the sand was still in his eye. It had to clear soon!

"Scratch!" Barry yelled, and Nincada leapt from the dust cloud, landing a solid hit on Silcoon.

"Tackle! Don't let him dodge it!" Silcoon let out a furious growl and launched himself into the direction of the scratch. It took a moment or two, but then he felt a mass colliding with him and he forced past it, sending the little thing rolling away.

"Well done," Barry smirked, recalling the fainted Nincada. "I do believe you said you'd have this one take on my first two, right?" Jett nodded coolly. "Very well! Go, Beautifly!" A Beautifly emerged, letting out a soft coo and fluttering in the breeze.

"You ready, Silcoon?" Jett asked, smiling in spite of himself.

"Silcoon!" Silcoon growled angrily, glaring at this new Pokemon. So, this is what he would turn into, huh?
