Are chain letter PMs against the rules/TOS? So far most of the information I've found regarding spam and chain letters has been forum post-related, so I'm not sure if I can or who I should report a pointless chain letter to.
Hopefully one of you might know- well, you've all been here forever (;
On a more art-related note: has everyone been having a productive commissioning month thus far?

Chain letter pms are against the rules as far as I know. I don't know who you would report them to though.
I haven't got many finished pieces this month but I have commissioned a lot.

Were you sending a chain letter around? Or was this a case of mistaken reporting? (;

Hm. Well, to me a chain letter is one of those things where you have to pass it around to a million other people before the day is through and if you do you get a wish/certain amount of gold etc.
A mass note along the lines of "hey, I don't have time to send everyone a message, but since I would be saying the same thing to everyone, here it is:" etc. is in no way a chain letter, otherwise every forwarded e-mail I've ever received would count as one.
Meanwhile, I'm having an impossible time deciphering who the appropriate person to send a report to would be - for all of the convoluted guides there are on Gaia explaining what the mods do and who mods which areas and covers various issues, none of them have done anything except make this process harder.

Well, the letter in itself, was something along the lines of don't do something, that somebody sent me. So I used it in the test of sending it to my friends list. That's probaly why I got reported. It was basically a forwarding of sorts. But i did get reported and I did get warned by a mod.
I've been getting spam lately too, quotes w/inquotes w/in quotes. I just delete them because it's only been one or two. I can go ask in a thread that has mods in it right. I'll be back :'D

Here you go audley luv: Dlin To report chain letters, petitions and other PM spam, PM a forum or dedicated (purple) mod. Or you can send them to me, any mod can deal with spam. But a dedi should be your first choice for spam reports. ^^ from the fingers of a mod themself :'D

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's those chain letters/e-mails that everyone forwards around that say something to the effect of "If you delete this, you don't have a heart" or "If you truely care about me/your friends/significant other/etc you'll send this letter to five people" or the most annoying "If you send this letter to 20 people in the next five minutes, your greatest wish will come true". rolleyes
I'm sorry, but me not bothering my friends whom I care deeply about with pointless spam forwards doesn't make me heartless, cruel, friendless, or luckless, and if someone isn't going to be your friend just because you didn't forward on a message, then they're not really any kind of friend to begin with now are they...
sweatdrop > I just really hate those kinds of chain letters stressed

Basically, if you use the friends@gaia options but didn't write the message yourself, then it's chain mail. Traditional chainletters, petitions, gold gaining schemes, false virus warnings, advertisments, etc. are all chain mail and are warnable/banable. If you get a message from someone that asks you to forward it on or implies such, please quote the entire message and forward it to a purple (dedicated) mod--changing the title to 'reporting chain mail' or something to that effect. A screenshot is always nice, but a quote is easier to work with. :3
