And... Nothing... In fact, Hitomi felt that if she had failed any harder, she might have brought chakra in... Ok... Two things are not to happen A.) Never humanize chakra, especially if you're imagining it wandering, lost for all eternity... B.) Never insult the chakra by saying that it doesn't have feelings... And if you must, at least give it time to get over itself before you try to order it around.... Hitomi stood straight, inhaled and rolled her shoulders. She let her breath out slowly, and, as she did, she formed the snake seal and when she was nearing the last of her breath, she let it out suddenly, hoping to let her chakra pass with it.

Beautiful. Hitomi felt that absolute absence of chakra and allowed her mind to take a break from constantly circulating and rotating excess chakra. Just enough to stay alive... That's the perfect spot... She sighed and got down on her knees. She needed to grow stronger, as well. Chakra was extremely useful, but once it ran out, you were forced to rely on your mind and your body. Hitomi needed to keep her body in functioning condition in order to keep Navalie from thinking of her the same way everyone else seemed to. Kon~kou had watched Hitomi burning out. If Kon was ever going to become more than just a dive bomb, she needed chakra. And that seemed like a good way to help gain control over her own system. Besides, who knows what a harpy eagle can do as a ninja? If Kon could learn to communicate more easily, she might be able to actually be more than a pet. She might become a full shinobi, and be able to hold her own in battle. Kon readied herself a couple of meters away from Hitomi and prepared to burn out. She raised her wings and focused on pushing the so far useless energies from her body. She had never needed her chakra, and as far as she knew, this would be the first time she's ever used it...

That wasn't hard. Maybe Chakra does weigh you down... I should just get in the habit of working with a clean system if this keeps up... Hitomi was at rest position, back up at the top. She began to lower herself down again. If I can keep this up, then I'll have that sword in no time. I just have to keep getting stronger. It's no good to have it if I can't even drag it along the ground. Hitomi laughed, kicking up the dirt in front of her mouth. She looked at Kon~kou. She's practicing? I wonder what she's got in her head... She has to be working towards something...

Kon~kou felt the chakra flow from her body. Too much. When Kon~kou shook herself awake, she began thinking again. Hitomi had made it look so hard... Although, she was twice Kon~kou's size and most likely had more chakra to burn... Kon relaxed... It did feel different without the chakra there, but Kon was divided whether she liked it or not... It was comforting to have some unknown force there to aid you, especially when you are something fragile as a bird, however, it was nice to not have to worry about something that you do not fully understand or have the capability of controlling. Kon cooed softly -her version of a sigh- and straightened up, looking at Hitomi working to build her body.

Hitomi felt her knuckles slip on the loose soil, and the grit tore through her knuckles. She fell to the ground. "Damn... Let's find a rock for this...." So she stood up, dusting herself off. She found a large, flat rock near her and decided it would work. Resting her fists on the stone, she raised herself to resting position. "Now let's just hope that the rock doesn't turn to dust..." She sighed and lowered herself to the ground. Kon seems to be having an easy enough time over there...

Kon~Kou stretched her wings and shook her head to wake herself up. She felt all of her chakra had returned, and she readied herself to burn herself out again. If Kon~kou could harness this power, she could fulfill her duty much more easily than just tearing at Hitomi's enemies... Not to mention meeting her own ends. If Kon~kou became a shinobi, she would raise herself above even some of the oldest Raptors she had seen... Of course, Hitomi still had no idea... The Hermit had been specific in Her instructions.

Protect her and serve her as best you can. Return her when she is ready. Do not help her discover who she is, nor how she became what she is.

There wasn't any room for loopholes. She had to let Hitomi figure herself out. Even if the process took years to happen, Kon~kou had to wait it out. She had to return to the Hermit with Hitomi on wing... Else there'd be hell to pay...

Hitomi couldn't quite get herself to the top of her push-up. She lowered herself back down to try again. She had been pushing slightly outwards, instead of straight up, and her knuckles were hurting more than before. The grit was really bugging her... She'd need to take care of them soon.Come on, it shouldn't be this hard. It's as simple as pushing yourself up after you got knocked down. You do that a lot, so what's the difference? That's another thing Hitomi needed to work on. It was fine to be able to hit. But to be able to avoid getting hit was key. If you can hit your opponent once and kill him, that's wonderful. However, if he hits you with the same strength, you're screwed. down.

Kon~kou shook her head again. This was too easy. In fact, it was so easy that she kept overdoing it... She didn't seem to have enough chakra to have to work all that hard to burn it. But until then, she just had to keep working at it until she could control a larger amount. Eventually, Kon would be able to henge. And once Kon~kou could change her form, everything got easier. Once she could take human form, she could take the genin exam, throw shuriken, and do all the other things that she was unable to at this point. And once that happened, anything was possible. Who knows? Someday, Kon~kou may even be able to fulfill her role as familiar to Hitomi. But she had to work at it. If she didn't get everything where it needs to be, then there was going to be a great deal of bad along with their visit to the Hermit. Kon~kou would not survive disappointing that woman.

Hitomi could continue for a little bit longer, but she was getting irritated at the pain in her knuckles. She climbed up off the ground, and walked towards the water. one push-up? What kind of failure am I? "I can't believe that... I only got one? I'm not done yet. But I need to get these knuckles cleaned up." She stopped at the water's edge and began to scrub the grit out of her bleeding knuckles. Remember when Nav knocked roy out, just so she could practice? A smile danced across Hitomi's lips. And when he woke up, he got knocked out again...

Hitomi pulled her hands out of the water and clenched and unclenched her fist a few times, to test how well they could stand up to movement without bleeding. Not for long, but maybe enough to get this done. She stood up again and watched Kon~kou training her chakra. She's burning herself out... Not a lot to burn, but even if you are just moving a pencil, if you do it long enough, it'll feel like a ton... You've still got to wonder what's happening in her head. It seems like she has a goal in mind, but for the life of me, I don't think I'd ever be able to figure it out.

CP: 2/3

She felt satisfied that her hands were all right for now, but she sat down and watched Kon~kou for a moment. They could help each other out. There were many training techniques that required two people. Hitomi just wondered how long it would be until they were both at a matchable level. Kon~kou can already beat me in a fight, no doubt. But I can use jutsu that she has not been trained in. I might have an advantage, but I doubt it would be much. I'm pretty much a one-shot-wonder when it comes to jutsu. I just don't have the chakra to keep fighting with them. And, like we've covered, once you run out of chakra, you're with your fists and your wit. And Kon~kou is probably superior in both respects. We'll just have to find out some day soon...

Hitomi watched as Kon~kou suffered her first failure at the burn-out. You can only get it right for so long. Hitomi felt that she had chakra again. Okay, time to fix that problem. Hitomi formed the snake seal and calmed her breathing. Birds of a feather, aren't we, Kon? I've still got to wonder why such a proud eagle such as yourself decided to stick it out with me... Nailed it. Hitomi felt her chakra flood through and out of her body. She almost went too far, but she managed to cut the flow just in time. Poor Kon seems to be having a lot of trouble with pushing just enough out. She needs to learn that she's not that strong yet... But at the rate she's going, it won't be long until she has more chakra than I do. Especially because most of the training methods here are geared towards humans, she'll need to get a lot of chakra in order to use them... If she can manage to perfect henge, then she'll have absolutely no problem whatsoever in growing stronger, I think.

CP: 1/3

We'll just have to wait and find out if she is able to. But I've heard of animals being able to even have their own squads, so I don't imagine that someone like Kon~kou will have any trouble mastering henge. Hitomi thought back to her time in the badlands. Hell, I haven't even mastered henge completely. I still need a little work. But, I think I'll be fine, especially with us pushing each other, we'll both be ready in no time. Hitomi sat down and cast her eyes out over the landscape.

Hitomi wondered at how the fates did their business. They could give someone a lifetime of hardships, and then they would give them a gift that was more than payment for those times. Yes, Hitomi had seen hardship, but she had found Kon~kou, and there wasn't anything else in the world she would give Kon~kou for. Funny. I find the one person who really understands me, and it's a harpy eagle... Hitomi realized that she and Kon shared a special friendship, and that they seemed to have a lot in common. Hitomi just wished that they could talk more easily than the difficult time they have with it now. They'd have to work on that together sometime...

((AARRGHH... First botched roll of the session...))

Hitomi decided to burn herself out before going for the rest of her push-ups. Kon. I don't see why you chose me, but I'm not going to let you waste away as the protector of a helpless little girl... Hitomi focused all of her chakra into her feet. She wanted to try a little experiment. She slowed her breathing and focused on pushing all her chakra out through the soles of her feet. Who knows what this'll do... If anything at all... Hitomi was hoping for some sort of hop or skip. Anything that might get her off the ground.

She decided to take a small break and took off into the air, stretching her wings and trying to get herself in order. She couldn't just let herself fail like this... But she was too scared of passing out again. She just needed to fly for a moment, to help get her head clear. If she couldn't get this small exercise right, then she'd never grow any stronger. She just needed to focus and everything would work out fine.

Hitomi's hand throbbed, and she fell on her side. This is not the time, I think... Hitomi stood up and looked down at her once again bleeding knuckles. Damn... Where's Nav when you need her? She walked over to the water and began to scrub her hands. As she did so, she thought about why she was having so much trouble with just a small little exercise... She'd leave it alone for now. She could wait until her knuckles had healed, and then she'd be fine... Might as well rest, wait for Kon~kou to get ready. We can have us a little spar, if she's feeling up to it.

She pulled her hands out of the water and shook them to get rid of some of the water. She pulled out some bandages and wrapped her hands. If Kon ever gets this down, I'm in trouble... Chakra control and jutsu are the last thing that I need to be competing with with this bird... If she gets any stronger, I don't think I'll even be able to stand near her without feeling inadequate... Hitomi sighed... She lay back and looked up at the sky. Awful pretty, isn't it? She was wondering what she had to do to be like Kon~kou some day, and just fly away... She truthfully didn't feel that far from it. She was growing closer to Kon~kou every day, but she also felt physically more like Kon~kou. She didn't really know what to make of it. She just recently began feeling less and less... Human? Hitomi continued watching as Kon~kou continued to try to burn herself out. It's really hard for her... I wonder why she's having so much trouble with it? Probably the same reason I do with push-ups... She's just not built to use her chakra this much... Or she's not used to it. Once she gets used to it, it'll be easy, I'm sure... But in the meantime, it's going to be hard as hell... Hitomi watched Kon~kou carefully, trying to figure out what she was thinking... Most likely along the same lines as me. Save flipped around. She's thinking about how I'm not used to physical training... However, together we make one pretty good shinobi. We've proven that with the clone battle. I was beat and she was near beat, but it shows that together we can take on stronger opponents than separate. We just need to make good use of that talent.

When Kon~kou woke up, she hopped up and tried to figure out why she kept pushing herself too hard... I give up... I just can't do it right now... I'm too tired... Kon looked at Hitomi. She did want a fight. It would be rude to keep her waiting. Kon took off nonchalantly. She circled a few times, waiting for the perfect moment. Hitomi needed to be able to read Kon's movements, and her intentions. The Hermit expected them to act as one. And if Hitomi wasn't at that level, then it would be Kon~kou's failure. And that would be exceedingly bad for me... Not to mention Hitomi... Kon~kou swooped in at Hitomi on her blind side, keeping her talons closed to prevent hurting her too badly.

Hitomi heard Kon begin her descent, and she rolled back to avoid the blow. She wasn't caught off guard. She had expected Kon to do exactly what she did. Hitomi knew that Kon needed to wind down just as much as she did. Well, then. If you're willing to play, let's play. Hitomi rolled her leg up to swipe at kon~kou, hoping to knock her off her flight path. If I can just get her on the ground, I've got this won. Her strength comes from her speed. Take that away and all she's got is her crushing power. And she's not going to use that on me. It's too dangerous.
