Hey guys i was just accepted into this kin, and i'm a straight band geek, I'm a senior trumpet player, i take lessons, i'm first chair in my section. ive been playing for 8 years total so far. I look forward to talking with you guys! Our trumpet section has mottos like "perfection in the section" If you have any questions on this particular instrument, don't hesitate to ask, i may or may not know it. I have a martin committe edition trumpet. they stopped making that edition about 40 years ago. it was passed down to me.
Anyone else have those iritating rust spots? from the moisture inside your trumpet trying to get out? almost everyone in my section have them, 'cept for the silver trumpets, they seem to be immune...

It's so horrible. D: My trumpet is one of those kinds where you can't use a 'regular' lyre, so I have to use this one lyre that needs to be tightened by hand... and it doesn't work! I can't tighten it enough, so it falls over while I'm playing, and on top of that, the rubber has fallen off a bunch of times, so my trumpet now has scratches in it. D: D:
And when I took it to a music store, the guy said he can't fix it; the scratches are too deep. ):
At least it prompted me to memorize my music quickly.

hey fellow trumpet players I was just wondering how do you tongue multiple sixteenth notes in a row. Like two sixteenth notes are easy but how do you tongue 4 or 8 sixteenth notes in a row WELL without slurring them?

Its called double tonguing, I'm surprised your band director/ section leader hasn't screamed it at you yet lol.

Its called double tonguing, I'm surprised your band director/ section leader hasn't screamed it at you yet lol. he hasn't really told us how to tongue that way yet. He says he will soon. He likes students to try things out on their own before he tells them.

Double tonguing is hard at first but once you get it it's easy. Just go sing the tiki room song a few thousand times and you shouldn't have any problems.

I dunno, I've been working at double-tonguing for about a year and I still can't do it. I can make the sounds when not playing my trumpet, and I can even make the sounds for the triple-tonguing, but I can't get it so that it works while playing... and I'm probably not doing it fast enough anyway.

Ahh, the strife of double-tonguing. Apparently, you are supposed to practice double-tonguing by just doing it with your tongue whenever you think to do it. This could include, but is not limited too when you are bored in class, when you are bored doing your homework, when you are bored in band, when you are bored when you are out with your friends, when you are bored in general, when doing chores or similarly unpleasant things, and then when you actually play. Basically just te-ka te-ka te-ka with your tongue a lot and you'll get used to it. And in the process, everyone will think you are the most annoying person ever. :]
I personally fail at double-tonguing. And I also don't play trumpet. :]
