((*is a doofus* I knew I was forgetting something ))

-The tiny ivory form clung happily between and upon the paws of her mother. Mothers were wonderful things really.. and it was almost amazing how so much terror could start to subside, simply by the warm and protective pressence, and the delicate reassuring licks.

She watched very little, tried to figure out very little, ironicly one of the few that.. for the moment atleast had escaped the terror and horror of the night. Her horror had passed. The pain the fear. It'd subsided into soft comfort. And though her ears raised softly with the words that filtered off and on, she only cuddled closer, thankful that her mother hadn't left with them. That she'd be able to stay in this warm and familar place.

Curling, leaning her cheek gently against her mother's foreleg, she let her eyes settle shut, though in truth she'd probably be awake late into the morning, and the softest hint of her whispered echo'd out once more.- "I promise I won't play outside so late anymore mama.."

She was likewise comforted by the weight of Xu's form between her paws. She brushed her muzzle against Xu's head reassuringly.

"It's okay as long as daddy or I are with you, sweetheart."

Something was happening, that was for sure. No kept herself planted on the rock in front of the den’s opening, her serious face made solemn with the feelings of urgency swelling in her belly. For a brief instant, her older brother appeared, doing much the same as Mosi had. No regretted she could not do it too. She wanted to have that look of authority- or at least, a look that was anything but that of a confused child. But about as quickly as he had came, he left again- perhaps to catch up with Mosi.

Somewhere in this, No made the thoughtful appreciation of the kind of matriarchy Ausi had created in the family. Visitors were certainly plenty as they checked on her mother- and No liked the kind of respect for her that had to imply. Cautiously- No looked back towards Ausi, who had not changed much since she had last looked. Jing was awake now, and for a moment it looked like her mother was going to say something. But it fell to interruption as Tai stalked in.

No hushed as the older female entered, pressing her ears against her head. She noted that, like with Mosi, her mother dodged the question and still had not answered it directly. She couldn’t shake the idea though that something had happened. Something had happened to them.

The black cat was quick to take up the offer to follow her aunt, nodding thoughtfully and stepping off the rock. “I will go.” She said as stoically as she could, before giving a glance to Jing and following out after the pale lioness.

She paused at the opening for a moment, catching only faintly Xu’s cautious words. No flattened her ears and blinked reflectively, before taking off after Tai. She'd find out why.

Copper eyes peered out of the cave, a large form of a lion watching as the heir to the thrown moved upward and towards the roar. He knew from the beginning, from when he first set eyes on the king, that nothing good would come that night. The blood on his pelt had dried, and yet the visions of the family still spun in his head, and the haunting eyes of the lion still caused shivers to run down his spine.

Ta'Ziyan chose not to follow the princess, though his heart called out and demaded he move. Yet, like before, he suddenly felt his place was in the den, and slowly he lowered down to his belly and waited, ears perked and listening for anything that might float down his way. As always, he knew he was not the one to help the pride, not at that time.

Mastema blinked at his elder brother, before letting out a whine. He was not a stupid one, however, and settled down on his haunces as well, his voice a soft whisper amongst the calls of the other waking lions.

"Why is grandpapa in trouble, Massi?" He asked with wide eyes, "He...isn't hurt...is he..." His tentative tones trailed at that, and suddenly fear shown through his eyes as he seemed to understand the answer. And yet, this time he didn't whine, nor cry, he simply and silently let his head fall, his gaze set on his paws. He needed to be strong.

Tai led the children further along to the steps, acending just enough for them to have a decent ear and view of what was going on, incidentally bringing them closer to Mosi and Nukta as well. She certainly didn't like where this was going, but no one who heard that call would dare ignore it.

She seated herself on the stone stairway and looked to her niece and nephew briefly before awaiting the news.

Jing'fei looked to Xu, curled in Ausi's paws, once more before nodding to Ausi's suggestion and slipping off to follow his other little sister and aunt. He kept close enough to the two to satisfy the agreement they'd made, but space enough that they weren't tripping one another up or looking like frightened children. He seated himself closest to No, watching the gathering numbers and the throne alternatively.

Mosi and Nukta were already there but no Jini or Adanna yet. "No, what do you think happened to Xu...?" He asked, eyes worried and a frown on his muzzle. They all saw the upset state their sister had been in when Ausi brought her back to the cave, and there were strange scents on both of them, some male that Jing had never scented before, and they both carried the scent of the king, whom he'd also never met before.

No furrowed her brow seriously as the trio moved, trying to listen to any words being said by the pride. People were quieter now...and, that brought the small black cat into reserved silence. From the top of the rocks, No could now see a large red lioness stalking about- and ascending from the side, the golden form of another one of Mufasa’s daughters. The king was nowhere to be seen.

No sniffed and moved closer to Jing. He stood out bright against everything- how was it that even the land seemed grey today? Suspiciously she peered up at Nukta and Mosi as they passed, taking a seat not far from them.

“I don’t know, Jing...” No pursed, her face sobering. “But I think...” And then, in a lower voice. “I think something has happened. Mother won't say anything about it.”

Matsai sighed as his twin appeared, needing his prescence to bolster his own failing courage. Hissing at Mastema, his voice was a low rumble. "Be quiet, Mastema. Mother is going to tell everyone, so just wait, okay?" Green eyes flickered to take in a familiar orange form, but at the moment it did nothing to dispell the sickening feeling in his stomach. Settling near Ahai, he appeared like a little statue, a near perfect replica.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Standing tall, Kiuma watched the various lions assemble at her call, red eyes narrowed on them. She glanced to the side as her sister appeared, a little smirk appearing on her maw. "Are you going to tell them, sister, or shall I do it?" Her voice was hard and sharp, abraisive to her oldest sister. The weakling... if it had been her, she would not have let the b*****d get away. She would have protected their father. An inner voice even dared breathe that it should have been her named the heir. After all, she was stronger, more world-wise, a mother in her own right, and she had a strong mate to support her. Kami was nothing, compaired to the red lioness.
Not waiting for a response, the Kiuma stepped forwad to draw all eyes to her, pround body drawn up to assume all of her royalty. Her voice boomed out, washing over the small crowd. "There are many new faces here tonight, and I regret that I did not have the chance since my arrival to make aquaintances of them all. My name is Kiuma, last born daughter to Sarabi and Mufasa. I have been traveling since my adolescence, and recently returned to bear cubs to my mate."
Drawing a deep breath, she went on. "I bring you news of the worst sort, tonight. We have lost something dear and precious to us tonight. All our lives have been uprooted and set adrift by the actions of two lions, and you have all been called here to hear of it. Prepare yourselves, for nothing will be the same."
Nukta and Mosi both quieted and settled as Kiuma began to speak. She couldn't really do more than wait as the princess built up the suspense of the evening's events. What had they lost? And why did Mosi suddenly have this dreadful feeling again?
Jing'fei seemed equally unnerved, even without seer-abilities, and felt his tail twitch to show for it. Beside and towering over him was Tai, who had taken up a light frown as she listened as well with her niece and nephew... What was this life changing news that the red-lioness went on about...?
Kijito quietly ascended to join the group that stood in front of his sibling. Flicking his ears nervously, he cocked his head slightly to one side. Word had reached him that something was happening or had already happened. Shifting nervously, he stood quietly. His body tense as he waited, fighting the urge to go up to his sister.
Chance brought Mvumo to Pride Rock at that moment; he had been wandering about that day with his eldest son, trying to think of something special he could do for his mate Aadil. But now, he was only curious about the gathering crowd he could see from the distance.
At first, he was a bit unnerved by the sight of the red lioness speaking to everyone; his claws dug into the ground before he could force himself to remain calm. This was not one of them. This was a daughter of the king, and she apparently had important news. Now that he was here, he couldn't very well miss out on it.
Sneaking into the crowd was a black jackal, whose ears turned back slightly at the news of...bad news. Whatever it was, it had to be terrible if the lions of the pride were gathering. Her children! All of her children needed to be protected from whatever this danger was.
-Lightly he let his tail flick, the simpliest of motions that would probably got unnoticed to everyone around them. And it came to lay across his twins own tail, the smallest hint of comfort in their otherwise statuesque wait to see what mother was so riled up about.-
-Kami cringed visably at the words most certainly taking all the cruelness behind them as a wave of the lioness' seemingly unebbing guilt touched her.
She was however very thankful to her crimson sister as she stepped forward. She wouldn't have known what to say.. She wasn't even quite sure what had happened anymore, the night beginning to swirl from her mind as numbness tried to shield her from the blow that she knew was coming.
Her eyes lifted, searching. Where was mother? Lifting abruptly from her seat, she hazarded a few steps back, eyes searching for the familar creme pelt. She didn't want to hear the words that were about to come, and she doubted her mother did either.. but if she DID have to hear them.. she prayed that it'd be within the comfort of the one who raise her so.-
~Sarabi weaved her slow way up the side of Priderock, her head hung low between her shoulders. Once bright eyes were haunted, all the life that had filled her gone without a trace. She seemed a wraith with but a tenuis hold to this plane.
There were voices up ahead, but nothing registered. The old queen couldn't bare to bring herself to listen, or care about what as being said. Her love was gone, what was left to her?
~Kiuma growled low in her throat as she kept her head high, tail lashing the air in growing anger. Her rapt audience filled her with a kind of delight, almost making her relish the terrible news she brought. Yes, this kind of power was a heady thing. She could understand the lust for power that some lions had, bringing them to form a pride to rule over.
"This night, our king and father, Mufasa, set out to save the life of a small cub. In doing so, he met and fought with a brute of a rogue, and took terrible injuries...." Her voice rose high over the crowd, each word heavy in her mouth. "Mourn, all of you. Tonight, our king has died and cast up his soul to become another star to watch over us. He has been released from his broken, mutilated body into a place free of pain and full of light. Weep and cry out for him, but remember, it is just another part of the Circle of Life."
~Matsai sat unmoving, his eyes growing wider with every word. A sort of panic seized him, making his breath come fast as he darted a look at his twin. Grandfather... was dead? An incredible pain stabbed him in the chest, nearly doubling him over. It couldn't be true... He was so big and strong, how could he be just another lump of meat now, like some preybeast brought down by a hunter?
Mvumo's jaw dropped, and new concern grew for his sons, for Aadil, for everything. A rogue? Killing the good king? What did that mean for them? Would the one who took his place be as kind toward the rogues like Aadil and himself who had joined the pride for protection?
He only hoped that the "rogue" was not of the Firekin; if a cub's life was in danger, that was always a possibility.
Why did everything have to go wrong all of a sudden?
Jani'mwiba shuddered in fear at the news, wondering for the safety of her pups, though knowing they were grown enough to take care of themselves. Tufani! Tufani had been dreamily mentioning a rogue she had met. Could this rogue be the same one? If so, the jackal was going to have to break the poor girl's heart, which she definitely did not want to do.
Kijito's eyes widened as his sister told them of their father's death. Shaking his head, he refused to accept it. No, his father couldn't be dead. He was too strong and wise to fall to a rogue. Shaking his head he moved past the crowd, staring at his sister. Silently demanding where his mother was, he wanted; no needed to let her know that he was there.
-Ahai's eyes narrowed softly at the news, and while he wasn't as upset as Matsai, never really having gathered the attachment to the grandparents that his twin seemed to have, he was shocked nonetheless. His mind did however trail in thought, and he wondered softly, if grandpa was not the king anymore.. who would be? Father perhaps?-
"Mamma..." -Upon the word, tears once again stung at the heiress' check, her insides twisting painfully as her eyes inspected what was left of her mother. The always warm and kind queen looking tired.. broken. More like a doll now.. then the mother she'd been comforted in. And quickly her paws carried her downward until she stood before Sarabi, unaware of the possible cruelness of her actions. She was after all.. a near clone of her father.
Are you okay? Thank goodness she kept those words in, settling on more simple ones, as tears began to spread more readily from her cheeks.- "I'm sorry Mom."
