"No offense taken," Miharu replied quickly, turning to Sam. "Depends on my inspiration, actually," she answered, thinking back to the many works of art that decorated her home. "Though I did do a fairly realistic painting of a Scyther that won me first prize in a contest at the festival the year before last. I won my Metang there. Well, actually it was an egg that hatched into Beldum, but you understand." She could remember the silvery-blue egg quite well, as it had been so heavy that she thought it hadn't been an egg at all, but a cruel prank played on her by the workers at the festival.
She fell into line behind the other two girls as they prepared to make a mad dash across the street and into the Department Store and its comforting cool air, though she didn't realize they were counting down until they were already through the automatic doors and running full tilt towards the opposite building. "Hey... wait for me!" she called, not wanting to be left behind as she ran after them, shouting out a quick apology as she nearly ran right into an older man and his granddaughter. By the time she caught up to Sam and Kya they'd already entered the store. Miharu was able to catch her breath quickly this time and she looked around the lobby with mild interest. She'd stopped in here once or twice before, though she couldn't remember what she'd bought then. "So, where to first?" she asked Sam, figuring that since she was the one shopping for TMs she should be the one to lead them through the store.

“HOLY MILTANK!” Moti shouted as his raised fist shot right up into the mischievous Yokai. “Oooookaaaay. That was cold.” Moti said as a shiver ran through him. “But a good prank, sneaking up on me like that!” The man commended with a wink to the somewhat startled Claire. “I’ve got a Pokemon who likes to play tricks too, but it’s a little harder for him since he isn’t a ghost.”
”Uh, sorry. Get over here you little demon.” Claire said as she motioned for the ghost to return. Deciding that the girl was right, Gastly moved over to Claire for the time being. The ghost wasn’t exactly sure why his girl was with this bunch of tower invaders, but for some reason this guy was different somehow. At the very least Yokai figured that being on the inside and beating up their minions was just as good as staying at Sprout Tower. Plus the Tower was free at this point so tagging along here couldn’t hurt.
“Now, you four divide amongst yourselves and start doing training battles. I want half of you to work on dodging, the other half on attacking. Same drills as yesterday. I’m going to work with the newbie here.” Moti said with a grin as he walked over and gave her a hearty pat on the back. “Over there little missy.”
Claire followed her energetic trainer over to their segment of the underground training facility. It was an impressively large room with a state of the art fitness center including a track around the outside edge of the room and several battle areas in the middle. Attached to one end of the room was a workout room and attached to the opposite side there was a corridor that lead to a large pool. “So, what are we going to do?” Claire asked as Yokai hovered around her shoulder trying to come up with some other ways to mess with this guy.
”Nyaa!” Yang suddenly though-chimed into Claire and Moti's heads. Moti jumped a few feet at the Espeon’s intrusion but Claire was already used to psychic conversation, despite her memory loss, as Kokoro frequently did the same (although she had been relatively quiet recently realizing something wasn't quite right with her trainer).
“Sheesh, I forgot you could do that. It’ll take me a while to get used to this my dear.” Moti said as he scratched the Sun Pokemon’s favorite place behind her left ear. She gave a soft mew and then continued. "Only recently evolved," Moti added for Claire's benefit.
“No problem-o Mo-moti! We’re going to help you get in sync with your new friend Yokai-kai!” The Espeon thought-spoke with a playful wink towards the two opposite her. Moti stopped scratching her ear and she let out a sad mew, but Yang was quickly over her minor sadness, as her trainer had promised to give her a nice grooming later on. She gracefully walked into the center of the arena awaiting the arrival of her opponent.
”Kai-kai…” Claire muttered, somewhat stunned by the cheerfulness and flying nicknames of the Espeon. “You know, that’s kind of cute, what do you think?” Claire said to the Gastly. He however, was not thrilled by this new name and quickly gave Claire a stern lick to the side of her face. “Ack!” Claire exclaimed as she wiped the rather sticky saliva off of the side of her face. “Okay, I get the message, no cute nicknames for the little demon.”
Pleased with himself, the ghost moved over to his side of the center of the ring, ready to fight.

Kya turned to Sam as well, who stood still, debating where next to head. "Well, I'm here to get a TM...Though which one I still don't know. Ice Beam does sound pretty cool...." She pulled out her Pokedex, and scanned Star's entry. "And from what I can see, it seems the best choice. So where are the TM's located?" Kya scanned the directory.
"Looks like...the...fifth floor." She turned to Sam. "Hey, I wanna buy some basic items while we're here, you go on ahead. I'll be on the second floor if you need me, kay?" Sam nodded, and Kya headed up one flight of stairs. Sam, in turn, headed to the bank of elevators. "Coming, Miharu? Or do you have some shopping to do to?" she asked, curious as to what a higher-level trainer buys. It couldn't be that much different...Sam thought of her stash of money. This TM would cut it in half about...but it would be worth it.

Neither of his parents said a word as they entered the house, and Jaden couldn't help but notice just how eerie the silence seemed. A part of him couldn't help but wish Riza would call right about now and help to deter some of the bad attention away from him, though the other part of him was insanely curious as to why neither his mother nor father had bothered to call his younger sister themselves. Mrs. Harding marched her son right to the dining room table and sat him down in his usual seat, and both parents took up a position on opposite sides across from him, effectively flanking him so that he couldn't get up and bolt from the room, though he probably wouldn't have ran even if he could. "What's all this about?" he asked finally. "Are we in trouble or something?"
"No, you are not," Mr. Harding answered quickly, leaning forward and resting his palms on the table. "But your sister is. Are you certain you don't know where she is?"
"I last saw her in Vermilion City," Jaden answered truthfully, though he decided to leave out the part where she was with a guy, as she was in deep enough trouble as it is. "Why?"
"We haven't heard from her in weeks," Mrs. Harding spoke up quickly. "One night she told me she was staying over at a friend's house, but when I called to check up on her, I found out otherwise." She paused for dramatic effect, and eyed her son as though he were at fault. "Riza ran away from home." * * * * * "Kord!" Katie cried, quickly rushing out to scoop up her tired little Elekid from the ground. He whimpered and clung to her like a small child to his mother. "I'm sorry," she whispered, rubbing his back to calm him down. In the meantime, Seraphim had come over and was looking very apologetic. Katie knelt down and patted her on the head. "It's okay, Seraph. You two are both great."
"Elebiii," Kord nodded, turning to look at the Roselia. He gave her a thumbs up to show that he was all right, and he scrambled up onto Katie's shoulder and entwined his fingers through her hair, causing some of it to stand on end due to the static in his body.
"Well," Katie said, absentmindedly trying to smooth her somewhat frizzled hair, "I guess that just leaves Noa and Nell," she said, giving the nod to her eager Staravia and equally eager Buneary. It was tough to say which of the two Pokemon were quickest to react, as both were quite fast on their feet (or wings perhaps?).
Noa let out a loud chirp as she landed on the ground opposite Nell, who in turn punch the air a few times. "Bun! Bun! Bun!" she cried, quite eager to get going, but when she didn't hear anything from Katie, she turned to see what the hold up was. Katie currently had her pokedex out and was studying it intently, as she didn't know any of the rabbit Pokemon's attacks.
"Ahh, okay, well, how about we start off easy then," Katie said, closing the pokedex and looking at her two Pokemon, Kord still perched on her shoulder. "Noa, start with a Tackle, and Nell, you use Pound!" she said. The Staravia didn't hesitate to comply, quickly lifting up off the ground with a few flaps of her wings and shooting forward towards the Buneary. For a moment it looked as though Noa's attack would be a sure strike, until Nell simply hopped up and over the oncoming attack, deciding it best to forego her attack for now and simply dodge. The Buneary landed quite gracefully and stuck her tongue out at Noa as she did so, causing the Staravia to let out an indignant squawk in reply.

"You're quite determined!" Ryka commented, "I'm sure you'll do very well in the contest. The same goes for you, Crenu." Ryka gave them both a smile, but was quite surprised to find that Crenu was a coordinator, too. He hadn't talked once since they had met, and he sure didn't seem as graceful as Riza or Fantina. But then again, who said all coordinators had to be graceful?
Ryka had to think about Riza's question for a moment. "I wouldn't exactly say I'm in training...I honestly just found out what a contest was an hour ago. However, I'm very interested, and if I'm able to I'd love to enter the contest." She shot a small glance in Fantina's direction. "Miss Fantina said that she would show me what a contest is like. I'm very excited!" Although it's true that she was, she also began to feel somewhat worried. Riza had been training, and it's obvious that the other coordinators had been too. What chance would she, a trainer who hardly knows what a contest is, stand among the many experienced coordinators?

It was almost suppertime before anything of significance would occur, and luckily Mr Devereaux had been paying attention to the radio otherwise they might have sailed directly into a fierce storm. By use of weather radar and satellite they were able to avoid the worst of it, though all of Jaeshan's Pokemon were returned to their Pokeballs for safety's sake. They ate a fairly simple supper and continued to chitchat and enjoy each other's company. Jaeshan told them all about his gym battles, with his earlier win over Erika being the most exciting by far. His parents had stories too, though they weren't nearly as riveting. When supper was finished his father returned to the helm while his mother retired to the cabin below deck. Jaeshan couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the fact that sometimes the seasickness still got to her.
Jaeshan had left his backpack below deck, as well as all of his other important things, for he didn't want to chance dropping them overboard. He'd removed his scarf some time ago as well, for it had started to make his neck feel a bit itchy, but he still wore his aviator jacket as the breeze was a bit cool. The sun was still just visible over the horizon, and Jaeshan sighed as he took in the sights of the oranges and reds reflected in the surface of the sea. He'd forgotten just how much he liked to be out in the water, where everything seemed so calm and serene. He placed his hands on the railing and looked down at the water below him, smiling a bit when he saw dozens of twinkling lights. He didn't need his PokeDex to tell him that those were Staryu below, as he could recall seeing them many times before when he was younger.
He sighed again and closed his eyes, wondering what the next step in his journey would be. He could either go to Fuchsia City and challenge the ninja master Koga, or he could head to Mauville and challenge Wattson, but a part of him felt as though he needed a break from his gym challenges. He opened his eyes and peered back down into the water again, a little sad to see that the Staryu had passed. He did see a darker shape below him now, but after a moment or so he realized it was a trick of the light from the setting sun. Even still, I swear I saw something, he thought, gently tapping his fingers against the cold steel of the railing.

"All right. Are you two ready?"
Jett loomed over the apathetic River and the furious Wurmple in a small area of grass behind the house he passed earlier. After a moment, the two Pokemon nodded.
"Okay. So Roxanne is a Rock-type gym leader, right? So Rock type moves include hurling large boulders at you. Which is where our first tactic will arrive: speed and evasion. When you evolve all the way, Wurmple, you'll be able to fly. That makes the rocks even more dangerous, but it gives you a better chance of survival." Wurmple nodded once, eager to be able to soar the skies. "So here we go. River, I want you to use Confusion on Wurmple. Wurmple, I want your first priority to be dodging and then counter how you see fit."
River instantly turned to the Worm Pokemon, firing off a telekinetic wave. The Bug-type growled in response and tumbled out of the way, only to be caught in the tail.
"Wurmple!" Wurmple responded, firing off a String Shot for River, who leapt out of the way. Again, there was another Confusion, but Wurmple made no movements. The Pokemon only fired off a wide arc of String Shot, watching a large chunk of it get destroyed.
A smile found its way upon Jett's lips as he watched the vicious Worm Pokemon roll out of the way perfectly before responding with a spray of purple needles. River instantly began to weave her way out of the constant fire, but she was unable to focus enough for an attack unless she wanted to get harmed.
"Nice, Wurmple!" Jett called, and River finally managed to fire off a Confusion to break the spray of violet needles before blasting it again towards Wurmple. "Very nice response, River!"

Eztli called out to her tiny red Pokemon. "Xipil, try using Fire Spin!" Xipil thought about it for a moment, then nodded. She drew in a huge breath, then exhaled a great big ball of fire. But it dissipated before it even came close to the Drowzee. The Drowzee snickered, before twirling its hands once more, its eyes glowing blue. 'It really wants to put Xipil to sleep...I can't have that happen again. "Xipil, get behind it!" Xipil leaped high in the air, and flipped over the Drowzee's head. As she did, she kicked out with her foot, knocking the Drowzee off balance and allowing her to land and get back up on her feet. The Drowzee spun around, looking for its opponent. "Xipil, try again! Fire Spin!" Xipil, more confident this time, inhaled again before exhaling a large, spiraling tongue of flame. It encircled the Drowzee, who at first merely swatted at it. It didn't start to hurt until it condensed into one large pillar of fire. Then the heat started to build, and it started to sweat. It couldn't move or else it would burn. It closed its eyes and made a few, weak symbols with its hands. Eztli, confident that the Drowzee had been taken care of, had begun to rummage around in her bag for Xipil's pokeball to recall her.
"Eztli!" Eztli heard Scott's frightened cry, and looked up. Xipil had fallen down, dead asleep. Eztli shot a look at the pillar of fire.
"How...?" Eztli murmured. 'How could its Hypnosis have reached out here? I thought it was much too weak to penetrate the fire pillar. Apparently I was wrong. But I can't run from this. Not when we are so close to winning.' But she also couldn't fight since Xipil was asleep and Zolin was out cold. 'All I can do is wait, and hope Xipil wakes up before the Drowzee is released,' Eztli thought, not particularly concerned. Xipil still had tons of energy left, and ,if needed, she knew she had a Potion and a Revive in her bag. Xipil snored in her sleep, surprisingly unconcerned. A few minutes passed, with Eztli watching the pillar of fire for any signs of weakness. But it was holding up pretty well, though Eztli could see the Drowzee's dim form through the flames, still standing, and so still ready to fight. Eztli glanced to Xipil, who didn't show any signs of waking up. Scott, who was by nature impatient, began pulling up grass. Eztli winced each time he did so. How could he so carelessly destroy the enviroment? After Scott had created a medium sized pile of grass, he threw it into the fire pillar. It burned up on contact. At this, Eztli turned to him. "Why did you do that? There was no point in killing the grass, and burning it is even worse." There was no emotion in her voice.
"I was bored. This is so dull, just watching a Pokemon sleeping and a never-ending fire pillar. Its like watching paint dry."
"So? Does that mean when you are bored, you become a murderer?"
"No! Thats ridiculous. Grass is different then a human, or a Pokemon. Its food."
"I understand the food chain, but it is eaten when needed. This was not needed."
"What is your problem?" Eztli leaned against one of the few trees on the Route.
"Have you ever visited the Ilex Forest, Scott? Or even the Viridian Forest?"
"Yeah, sure I visited the Viridian Forest once or twice. What? It's another ecosystem, shows the beauty of nature, blah blah bla-"
"No Scott. I want you to imagine something." Scott rolled his eyes, but then closed them. Eztli nodded, and then lowered her head, speaking even quieter then normal. "Imagine you are in the Viridian Forest. Around you is life. Everything is connected, the trees, the grass, the Pokemon, the humans. This a perfect world. Now imagine it is burning. The trees and grass are going up in flames, the Pokemon are fleeing, some are dying, ash is falling and choking the water supply. The entire forest, an entire way of life is being killed." Eztli looked up and watched Scott steadily as silence fell. Only the slight crackling of flames could be heard. Scotts face seemed blank, but Eztli could see the minor twitches in his face, the slight squint of his eyes. He was upset now. Who wouldn't be? "Now, imagine that this burning is your fault. It is your own carelessness that destroyed the forest. You are now a murderer several times over." Scott opened his eyes, disbelieving. Eztli cast her gaze down once more. "And now, you know what I have to live with every day, what I have had to live with every day for several years." Scott opened his mouth to say something, but then Eztli turned away to look at Xipil, who was stirring. "The battle is resuming," she said, declaring the subject closed. Scott hung his head, a bit ashamed as his thoughtlessness, but mostly he pitied Eztli. Eztli would probably hate him if he admitted that, she did not accept pity. Eztli watched as Xipil staggered to her feet, a bit drunk with sleep. Eztli looked back at the fire pillar, which was quickly disappearing. She thought back to the day of the fire...
'Burning, pain, so much fire...My fault, all my fault...Death, death, death again, no, no more death! I've had enough!' Eztli had lost control of her fire, and it had spread. As an entire section of the forest was engulfed, Eztli had fled. She was a coward, and she didn't care. As she was running, she had fallen and twisted her ankle. As she lay there in pain, she had been pelted with hot cinders. As she cried freely, she felt she deserved this. She had killed her mother, driven her brother and father away, and had now just murdered her favorite place in the entire world...Why should she live when she cause so much death?
Eztli shook her head from such thoughts. She couldn't dwell on this, no good would come of it. She had to stay positive. She had a reason for living now, to rescue her brother and reunite her family. As the fire pillar finally disappeared altogether, and she saw the Drowzee still standing, though barely, she said, with pain and anger barely concealed in her voice, "Xipil, Faint Attack!"

Nero watched in amazement, as the two Pokemon seemed to just ... brawl with eachother... After a few seconds, he came in between them.
"No... No. Not like that. Please, try and cooperate for me? I'm trying to help you to become stronger. You two want that, don't you?"
The two Pokemon nodded and performed their tasks, just a little sloppily, but still nicely enough. After a few minutes of this, Nero stopped them, and asked "Now... would you two rather battle or take a break for now?" to which Clooney pounced and slashed at Icarus' body. "Kksssshhhhhh!!" he hissed... "Staaahh! Li!" he responded with a tackle of his own...
"Good grief... Why did I have to get a Bird and a Cat... Maybe if I hadn't caught Icarus...?" he said to himself, however, Icarus heard what he'd said... "S...starly...? Starrr...." Icarus sounded quite sad, but continued to battle with Clooney. "Clooney, stop! Seriously. Be good already..." Nero asked, sitting on a nearby stone... "Come on you two... It's time for lunch." he said...
Clooney smirked at Icarus, and said something in a 'I'm better than you' sort of tone, then pranced over to his bowl. "...Dang.... I guess we gotta go into town after this. I haven't much food left..." Nero remarked, and poured food into two bowls... "Alright you two. Lunch is up! Clooney, don't touch Icarus' plate. It's his!" Clooney batted at the plates, because the new bird's plate was larger... "Now, now... He's new, so he deserves more food. Plus, he wasn't constantly disobeying... were you, Icarus?" Nero looked around, but didn't see his new pokemon anywhere around... "Icarus...? Hey, Icarus! Where are you, buddy? .... Icarus...!?" Nero shouted, looking around quite frantically... He searched the trees nearby. No Icarus. He looked for a berry tree, maybe he was hungry? ... No berry trees... Also , no Icarus. Nero looked around, under brush, atop hills... He looked pretty much around the whole general area... But to no avail... He'd lost his newest Pokemon...
"Oh, great.... I lost him... I... Don't know where he is, and I can't find him... Clooney did you see where he went...?" Nero said, in a somber sort of way, like a kid who was denied ice-cream.
"Mao.." Clooney shook his head, but he knew where the stupid bird went. Clooney stroked his owner's left leg with his fur, trying to cheer him up... "Mmmraao! Maorrr.... Prr...." He danced and purred and batted, but nothing would cheer up the thing that got him food. "Mao.... Mraooao...." he said, finally... May as well show him.
"What..? Where you goin', Clooney..?" Nero asked, and got up to follow.

After sitting around for more than an hour, Kilik hopped off of the chair and stretched his arms. Up on his tip-toes, he towered at an impressive six feet and seven inches. When he returned to his normal height of 6'4", he spun on his heel and headed out the door. The fresh air hit him like a ton of bricks, as it always seemed to do in this town. He hadn't had air this clean since he went back home to Verdanturf. Every town he'd visited since then was industrialized and had very bad air. Livable air, but still awful on the lungs. It was places like this that made him appreciate what he had in Verdanturf, growing up. Being so close and directly south of Lavaridge and Mt. Chimney, he was surprised that it was so clean there. He tossed a PokeBall up and down, tapping his foot, bored out of his mind. He couldn't exactly explain why, but he felt that leaving Floaroma at the moment was out of the question. Something was making him stay, and he couldn't put his finger on a reason.
He caught the ball in his hand on it's return to earth, and held it up into the sky. Inside was his Treecko, who was likely sleeping soundly. She was so innocent. What if she were to get involved with something that would take that from her? Team Rocket, or another incident like Maorde? She certainly needed to be strong if she was going to travel with him. Not because he had to have strong Pokemon, but because she had to be strong enough to handle these threats head on. His hand tensed on the ball.
"Oh! Kilik!" called out a boy's voice.
Oh great, Kilik thought, turning in the direction it came from. "Hi, Barry."
"I'm surprised you beat me here! I thought you looked a bit like a slowpoke!" He laughed, panting heavily. It had looked as if he was running. "I got myself a Coal Badge! I thought that's where you mentioned you were going?"
"What?" Kilik raised an eyebrow, "I never told you where I was going. But congra--"
"THAAAANKS," he hushed Kilik, "My Pokemon have gotten a lot stronger too! Piplup single-handedly took out all of Roark's Pokemon! Delicious type-advantages." He looked Kilik up and down, then noticed the PokeBall in his hand. "Say! Wanna battle?!"
"Barry, I just heal--" Barry then got extremely close to the boy's face, and he took a step back. "Fine. I figure the experience of Treecko trouncing your Piplup would be glorious. Delicious type-advantages." Kilik smirked and tossed his Pokeball, Treecko popping out. She looked around, then noticed a strange boy with blond hair. Stretching, she readied herself. Master was always battling! He was always on top, too. She'd never seen him lose!
"Piplup!" Barry laughed, tossing his ball into the air. "Yip-yip! Let's show this Treecko a thing or two about battling! Try out that new move of yours! Peck!" The moment Piplup came out of the ball, he started running towards Treecko with his beak lighting up.
"Gonna play that way, huh?" Kilik laughed, "Treecko! Quick Attack!" This was going to be over faster than he thought

Treecko ran on all fours, her body tingling. Was this the thrill that Cable seemed to get from battling? She'd never felt like that before. She swerved to the side to avoid the Peck and slammed herself into the Piplup's arm, putting all of her weight behind it. "Aha, yeah!" Kilik snapped his fingers. "That's the way!"
"Piplup!" Barry cried out, "Use Peck again!" With his target so close, it was almost impossible for him to miss! Recuperating from the attack rather quickly, Piplup began to mercilessly Peck at Treecko, hitting her at least four times. Each hit really did hurt! Maybe this penguin wasn't as weak as Kilik had anticipated. Panting heavily, she looked over at her master. What was he going to do next? That really hurt and she could feel herself barely holding on! But there was something in Kilik's eyes. It was as if he had expected the whole thing!
"This may only be our second battle," he said to Barry, "But I'm not going to lose. I've never lost to a rival and I don't plan on making a habit of it!" Except for Mike... he thought with his smirk somewhat fading. Barry didn't need to know about that though. "Treecko, heal yourself up with your Absorb!" That was Master for her! He prepared for everything! She let loose a familiar barrage of green bubbles and began to sap Piplup's health, running around him to avoid incoming attacks and to allow herself the time to be healed.
Barry tapped his foot. What was he going to do? He could always switch Piplup out for his Starly, but what if Kilik were to switch to something else? With Treecko's advantage to him, he couldn't and didn't really want to risk it any further than he had to. "Piplup, return!" He recalled his partner and sent out his Starly. The black bird Pokemon hopped around for a moment, spreading its wings.
"These things are worse than Pidgey!" Kilik sighed. They really seemed to be every where in Sinnoh. He looked over at Treecko, and while she did look fit as a fiddle thanks to all the health that she managed to sap from Piplup, he knew when to count his wins. "Treecko, head on back." He whistled and allowed for his gecko to climb up on his shoulder. Now, he thought, The chances of his Starly being a similar level to his Piplup are slim, especially considering that's all he used against Roark. I'd pin it close to Chimchar's level at this point... He took the Fire-type's ball from his belt and let it fly. Chimchar burst out, his tail flickering as he landed on the soft grass. Another one of these birds? He sure wished he had more varied opponents. He couldn't wait to see the day where he battled foes that would make Aggron cringe! He readied himself and looked over at Kilik. "Chimchar! Go attack Starly with your Blaze Kick!"
Barry gulped and stomped around a little bit. Perhaps switching wasn't a very good idea at all. He watched as Starly took the attack and was knocked back a couple of feet, landing in a heap next to him. "Get up! Get your head back in the game! Gogogogogogo!" The bird pulled itself together and clawed at the ground and ran forward with the only attack he could think to use: Quick Attack!

Riza couldn't stop herself from smirking a bit when she heard Ryka's answer. Though a part of her felt a bit bad that Ryka would be going into this without much preparation, another part of her couldn't help but feel a bit relieved. She was already battling a mixture of excitement and anxiety over her first contest and knowing that some of her competition were on the same level as she was somewhat comforting. "Well, my brother once said that the best way to learn something new is to dive right into it, or something like that," she said, trying to sound reassuring. Though, the prospect of seeing a demonstration from Fantina had her nearly squealing with excitement once more. "I'd love to see a demonstration from you, Miss Fantina," she said, nearly hopping up and down like a crazed fan girl.
Fantina laughed once more, using her slender, gloved hand to cover her mouth. "Ah, such energy, C'est très magnifique!" she said, looking around the area they were in. "And I think zis place, it will do nicely, oui, oui!" She turned to Riza and clapped her hands. "Riza, venez avec moi, s'il vous plaît," she said, beckoning for the raven haired girl to follow her. "You go over z'ere, and I will stay right 'ere, yes, très bon. Ryka and Crenu, stay right where you are. Riza and I, we are going to show you what a true contest is like! Zat is, if it is alright with you, Mademoiselle Riza."
For a moment Riza just stood there blinking, as she hadn't quite understood what Fantina had asked of her. After all, she did have a grandmother on her mother's side that was French, though she hadn't bothered to put in the time to try and learn the language, something she was really kicking herself for now. It became apparent quite quickly though and she nodded, moving to the position Fantina had indicated. "Yes, of course, I'd love to," she nodded, though a sickly feeling of nervousness suddenly overcame her.
Fantina clapped happily at Riza's agreement. "Magnifique! We shall get started, then! Allons-y, Drifloon!" Her purple gown fanned out around her as she tossed her pokeball into the air, though it looked different than a normal one It was covered by a clear plastic case that didn't seem like it served any real purpose until it burst open. The Balloon Pokemon appeared in a flash of light, accompanied by a rain of multicoloured confetti. Drifloon inflated his body and deflated it again to send out a small gust of wind that caused the confetti to cyclone around him before it faded. Now that was an entrance! * * * * * Both Katie and Kord couldn't help but laugh at the Buneary's antics, as it was the rabbit's trickery that had made Katie want to capture her in the first place. She wasn't even angry about Nell having stolen her pokedex anymore. Noa, however, didn't seem very happy about being made a fool of and quickly changed her flight path, a trail of white light streaming from behind her as she attacked Nell with a Quick Attack.
Katie wanted to call out a warning to Nell, but decided that Noa deserved to get this strike in. Both she and Kord winced as the Buneary got blindsided by the Staravia's attack. She groaned a little as she got to her feet but she grinned at Noa. She knew the starling Pokemon was stronger than she was, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to give it her all. She crouched down and tucked her arms and legs into her fur, buffing up her defenses a little bit with Defense Curl. "Bun!" she called, clapping her paws together, beckoning for Noa to attack again.

Jaden had to bite down on his lip to keep from laughing out loud at his mother's statement, and he stared down at the polished surface of the dining room table as he tried to think of something to say in his sister's defense. No one had to say anything about the situation for him to figure it out. He knew just how badly Riza had wanted to start her on journey after he left home, and both his mother and father had refused it. His sister always had been a bit on the spoiled and selfish side so he could easily guess that she'd packed up her bag and decided to leave one night, though the fact that neither of them had many real friends growing up made her cover story seem very unbelievable, at least to him. The only other weak point was how she'd obtained her first Pokemon, that Sneasel of hers "She didn't run away from home," he said finally, causing both parents to look at him. "She started her journey."
"But why?" Mrs. Harding asked, being the first to break the stunned silence. "And how? She didn't have a Pokemon of her own. How could she manage?"
"I'm not sure either," Jaden answered honestly. "But she did somehow. And she left because you guys wouldn't let her. You of all people should know how stubborn she is."
"I can't believe that girl," Mr. Harding sighed, rubbing his temples with his thumb and index finger, and he looked at Jaden once more. "But you're right. We should have been prepared for this much sooner."
"What do you mean?" asked Jaden.
"We had decided to let her go," Mrs. Harding answered quickly. "I suppose it just wasn't soon enough for her. We had already established a plan to get her starting Pokemon for her, as well. Had she waited for just a few more days, she would have been given a Pokemon and a proper sendoff."
Jaden understood then. "I see," he said, pushing his chair out and standing up. He looked towards the entrance to the dining room expectantly. "Then that would mean..."
"You are correct, Jaden," came a voice from down the hall, and a tall woman with light blue hair came into view. "Long time no see." * * * * * Noa gave a cheerful little chirp as she turned to look at the rabbit Pokemon. Nell seemed to be very good natured and the Staravia was quite fond of that. She was very different from that obnoxious Monferno their trainer seemed to favor. Katie, though aware of the rivalry shared by Genki and Noa, was oblivious to the fact that it was much more than that for the bird. Noa knew that Genki had been with Katie for more than two years now, and her stay on the team was much less than that, and she was somewhat jealous of the bond between them. She gave another cry and flapped her wings, causing her body to shimmer a bit before she shot off in four directions at once.
Kord looked a little confused by what just happened and he gazed quizzically at Katie. "Oh," she said, upon noticing the Elekid's confusion. "Noa used Double Team. It'll make it harder for Nell to keep track of her."
"Bii," the young Elekid replied, nodding. He was impressed by the tactics of his older teammates! Nell, though less impressed than the baby Elekid with the Staravia's tactics, was instead prepared for such a move. Both her ears were standing straight up and her nose twitched as she studied the four Staravia around her. It looked as though she hadn't done anything, but in actuality she had used Foresight and was now very much aware of which of Noa's clones was the real one.

River fired shot after shot at the scurrying little Worm Pokemon, but each time, it was unsucessful. She was growing discouraged with each attempt.
"Wurmple!" Wurmple charged towards the Ralts, who only responded with her one and only attack. Without so much as using String Shot, Wurmple rolled to the right precisely three times before continuing to charge.
They're learning, Jett thought happily as Wurmple attempted a Tackle, only to be met with grass and dirt. Though I never know when we'll be ready...
"All right!" Jett called, pausing the next barrage of attacks. "We need to focus on other tactics..." There was a momentary pause while Jett tried to figure out what other tactics there were. "...Well, I wish we had big boulders that you could practice breaking or dodging. 'Cause that'll probably be a majority of our battles..."
The trainer glanced around, finding only trees and grass. Finally, a grin light up his face that struck worry into the hearts of those with any common sense.
"I've got it! We're gonna practice using the environment around us!"

Miharu had stopped to study the Department Store's directory as well, trying to decide if there was anything she needed to buy. "Yeah, I'm coming," she replied with a nod, following Sam towards the elevators. Another thought had crossed her mind as the two girls stepped inside, though before the doors could slide shut, a boy, perhaps a year or two younger than both of them, dashed in behind them. He turned around and smirked at both Sam and Miharu before pressing every single button on the pad, and Miharu scowled at him as she fought off the urge to smack him upside the head. He got off on the second floor though, and Miharu shook her head as the doors closed behind him. "Stupid kid," she grumbled.
Despite the fact that the elevator stopped at every floor on the way to the fifth floor, they arrived without further incident. "Sam, you go on ahead," she said once they'd stepped off the elevator. "I've got something I want to check out," she added with a bit of a mischievous grin.
