I'm really sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section of the guild but I have a question. Why must we wait three weeks before being sorted? And also, what does any of this below here mean?
First Requirement (two choices) make 60 posts Make a good impression [reference] (Posting in different places and helping out will get you noticed by Heads, who might put in a good word) and Second Requirement (two choices) invite 3 people to apply to the guild and mention the person's name in their application(And they must make what the mod reading considers a decent application; no net-speak and more than one sentence, gives a good impression) turn in 3 Pieces of homework
Do we have to do both set of requirements? And how can I help out if I'm just a house elf? The best I can do is go to the Giggling Pear, Spinners End, and Heard it in the Hallways. I would love to help out but how can I do that?
I really am sorry but I'm just slightly confused and would rather have these questions solved by the right people then having to guess my way through.

This is the right section to ask questions.
Having people wait three weeks (and make 30 posts) to be sorted ensures that they are active in the guild and are likely going to remain so (ie they didn't just post a whole bunch the first day and then disappear, or only post a couple times a month). It is also an advantage from the guild members' point of view. It means that you have time to get to know other guild members (especially those who are also new and will be in your year level), and you have a "mentor" of sorts to help you with any questions you have and help you get used to how things work. Also, it keeps everyone together a bit more, as opposed to separating people into different houses in the very beginning. And it's a whole bunch of fun to be a house elf in the kitchens/Giggling Pear. biggrin (There could be more reasons that I cannot think of.)
What you quoted from the sorting thread is about early sorting. That is for those who want to be sorted partway through a term, before normal sorting. From the wording, I believe you must meet one of the choices from each requirement. ie make 60 posts and complete 3 homework assignment. However, sometimes the second requirement is difficult to meet, and I'm not entirely sure I have the system right, so talk to IceeWitch about what exactly is needed for early sorting, if you are interested.
As for how you can help out: Just being active is terrific (participating in events and discussions, RPing, games, etc). Don't forget about the event going on at the moment. You can also do things such as write articles for the Hogwarts Monthly. Often times, there are discussions going on in this topic (SFQ) about ideas for upcoming events. Guild members' thoughts and suggestions/ideas are always welcomed.
[[Would one of the mods/Heads mind correcting what I've said if I got anything wrong, please? And also answer questions that I do not have the knowledge to answer?]]

Oh thank you very much Lyra mrgreen May I ask about what event is currently going on and if it's really okay for a house elf to participate in it?
EDIT!: There's a glitch going on in the guilds. So here's my reply to you all below.
Thank you once again Lyra and thanks to you also Junimaia. And its fine mistress IceeWitch Head Elf. Your all very busy and I understand that. I look forward to the new information mrgreen

Well, the event was originally Fright Week. Fright Week is technically over now I think, but the event is still continuing. I think the only two threads that are really active are (1) the Haunted Hall, where you are welcome to RP as a house elf and talk to the other house elves, students, ghosts, and whoever else happens to be in there, and (2) The Smashing Pumpkins game, which I believe people are no longer able to join as we started a little while ago and are currently in the middle of it. Go join everyone in the Haunted Hall if you feel like it!
In every event, there will be a way for house elves to participate. There are quite a few house elves in the Haunted Hall and a few playing the Smashing Pumpkins game at the moment. I think a couple also submitted entries for what their ghost (Dobby) should wear (Unfinished Business topic).

And a House Elf won the 100k gold prize in the Fright Week lotto xp
House Elfs can always participate in guild events in the event forum unless a particular thread says otherwise 3nodding ------- Quote: At the rate things are moving I think we should turn the Start of Winter term event into a Pajama Rama Christmas bonanza. I'm thinking a pajama avatar contest, maybe a secret santa or something. Other potential ideas I just thought up:
- Seasonal Drink Stand (a thread where people can gather 'round the fireplace and maybe discuss their favorite drinks or treats in the wintertime) - Great Hall Christmas Tree decorating contest (members will be given a tree template to decorate using a paint program or whatever art program available)

Lyra just reminded me about the Hogwarts Monthly. We need to get an issue together for January: Bringing in the New Year
Also Lyra pretty much nailed it on the spot =). I don't want to add anything because her response was pretty darn near perfect. The current Entrance Hall might not be as helpful as it was ages ago, so we've created a new edition that we'll announce soon. Hopefully it will help since this guild has had many updates and such since the last edition of the EH. (I also apologize for your confusion because as Head Elf I'm supposed to help prevent that. I'm in the process of updating our Giggling Pear with lots of new information that I hope you (and others) will find helpful.)

Juni those are all great ideas, another good thing is that two of them are things we've never done before so it'd be more interesting. We could do all the things you listed above and open up for more ideas. Also instead of calling it Christmas bonanza we should say Holiday just to broaden it. Adonis should post the Calendar tonight in the current Entrance Hall so everyone else could know what we're talking about. I think that's it for now. **I'm posting my Post List tonight in the Filing Cabinet. I'll also PM the prefect in Slytherin to see if they could help update the list for Slytherin** Sheesh I've had it done for ages I just didn't feel like messing with MS paint.
All done!

A hat? You mean an actual hat, or more of a metaphorical hat?
Juni, I really like the Christmas tree idea.

A Secret Santa? I simply adore Secret Santa's! And if we did do one, we could always call it a gift exchange. 3nodding

In the main subforum do you guys think that the Hogwarts Monthly thread should be stickied? Back when the paper first started it was stickied, but that was before we made the new Banners and Welcome threads. Anyway I tested it out and to me it looked cluttered in a semi-empty subforum, but I don't know...
Who thinks it should be stickied/not stickied?
(As for Christmas event any more ideas? We can certainly build on what Juni came up with!)

I love the idea of having a gift exchange/Secret Santa. It sounds like it'll be fun and I think there's great potential there also. Maybe you could use the secret Santa idea to help build comradely between houses. Like Slytherins do gift exchanges with Gryfindors or Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff...I don't something like that...sounds awesome either way. As for the Chritmas tree event...I like it cool You could do the tree template thing like Juni suggested or maybe it could be a contest to see if someone can decorate a real Christmas tree in their home and make it HPGOG style. That would be kinda cool I think. If not then just have them draw and paint a Christmas tree and just decorate it to their best ability. In the end I'll look forward to anything you guys come up with. I plan to be here for it all mrgreen
Well I hope I helped somehow...it never hurts to share an opinion right?

Hm, I like your ideas Fiyori.
I also have another idea. Ugh, what's it called? Oh yeah, students/elfs could post recipes of Harry Potter foods and someone or a group of people could make the food and decided the best. After all, we all know that the holidays are a time of give food!

I like mostly your gift exchange idea. We've done Secret Santas in the past but never like that before. I'm thinking we find out how many members of each house would like to participate. Then the Heads decide randomly which House has to give to which. Since the houses are uneven right now, the house-elves can participate too as fillers. For instance: Slytherin has to get gifts for Ravenclaw. 5 Slytherins sign up, but only 3 Ravenclaws sign up. Three of the Slytherins would have to give a gift to a Ravenclaw, and the other two to a house-elf. Also with that scenario: Ravenclaw has to give gifts to Hufflepuff, but there are 3 Ravenclaws to 7 Hufflepuffs. Well four house-elves would be getting the other Hufflepuff gifts. It's not making much sense right now probably, but once we figure out who would like to participate, we'll have a better idea how to pair everyone up. It's an interesting and new twist on an old tradition.
