Iyasu Soma Masterlike Thank God there are other male flute players here. I'm so accustomed to being shunned. lol Male flute players are awesome!! And if you think about, most of the famuos flute players you hear about are men! 4laugh Which is weird, cuz there aren't that many of them in bands at school and stuff! It's because if a guy is at all serious about the flute, he's generally VERY serious. Generally, of course, I'm a pretty lazy flute player. But I'm pretty good anyway.

Lepidus Light That sounds fun. xD I've taken to playing this one song from the 3rd Harry Potter movie that's played by a recorder and played when Lupin and Harry were talking on that one bridge thing...I learned it by ear and I was playing it on the stands 2 days ago, but naturally, no one actually knew what it was... I love learning stuff by ear. I think it's the best way to learn/memorize a song, because rythms get confusing sometimes when you look and try to figure out how to play them, you know? You're sitting there staring at them, and they suddenly start blending together while you're trying to figure them out? Happen to anyone else? I can play a majority of the LotR soundtrack songs (a lot better with the soundtrack though), Send Me A Song, The Soft Good-bye, Going Home and a couple others from God's and General's, a few from Gettysburg, and just the other day started to play Far Longer Than Forever. Just out of the blue...it was so random...

I personally like having things right there infront of me as reference, but I'm like that. xD It may be because the flute player next to me plays by ear instead of looking at her music so she plays a billion wrong notes before she can hit the right one, and at that point, it's too late. That took my edge off of ear-playing.
That's neat! The only LotR songs I can play are the ones we played last year in band for a concert. xD

What songs did you play? We played a LotR medley...I know "The Great River" was one of the songs we played, but I forgot the rest...I think "Gandalf" was on there as well. We didn't have to convince mine - he gave us a choice between Phantom of the Opera and LotR.

My BD won't listen to anyone except for a few who suck up to him, and he would never consider giving us a choice. The only choice is the senior show...still not much of a choice...

*waves at Legolas*
I play flute. 1st chair in Wind Ensemble and co-section leader in marching band. I swear to god, flutes are the only section that our BD deosn't give a crap about. He plays horn, so he loves all the brass players, and he loves low instruments so he loves all low woodwinds. We have an awesome 1st chair oboe and clarinet so he loves them. Last year, the 1st chair flute almost never showed up for class (I was 2nd), so it didn't leave him with a very good impression (and there's a lot of really annoying underclassmen in my section too).
